After reviewing a bunch of 20-25 quart coolers, I found that the ORCA 20 Qt was the toughest and I like that it was USA-made. However, the YETI Roadie 24 was the best in quality, and the RTIC 20 Qt was the best value for money.

My Orca has longer ice retention, has a lifetime warranty, and is made in the U.S. Yeti doesnt have a lifetime warranty and is made in China! If it was designed in Austin Texas, shouldn't it be made in Austin Texas? Just saying...

I looked into orca. They were started by a TN guy and based in Nashville. They were made in Nashville and Ohio. Tney also make a lot of donations. I thought cool I’ll support them. So I purchased a 40qt. So then my payment comes up as Pride Sports. Apparently they were supposedly bought out. Now it’s owned by an alphabet mafia group that’s focused on the LGBTQ community and sports. Had I known that before hand I would have passed.

My orca will last literally as long temperature wise as my yeti. It also cost a bit more. Everyone not understanding why coolers cost so much apparently don’t mind adding in ice bags constantly 🤷🏻‍♂️ I pre-chill both of mine and before leaving to camp I add in ice from my freezer and 1-10lb bag and it’ll last a few days easily with constant use.

Seen many ice tests where the ORCA 20 outlasts the YETI 20. Also made in USA vs overseas is a big bonus for me. At the larger sizes ORCA is just as expensive as YETI though. ORCA for the win!

Speaking of the latches on the Orca, we camped with someone over the weekend that had a brand new Orca cooler and their son was unable to open the latches to get something out of the cooler by himself. Impressive ice retention over a really hot weekend, though. I will likely pick one of the smaller Orca coolers just to keep for short trips. We run an ARB fridge for most of our outings.

The handle on the orca 20 is where all the thermal loss occurs. It feels cool when you carry ice but is ICE COLD when you carry dry ice. It is practical but a design flaw when it comes to insulating performance.

I just don't see the logic in paying the huge prices for a cooler unless you are trying to protect/cool a super valuable item for an extended period of time (maybe for an extended fishing/hunting trip or organs for transplant). If you compare to paying $100 for a standard cooler in lieu of $450, throwing in 2 bags of ice at $2 each every day for a "weekend warrior" weekend (3 days), you will get 29 additional weekends of ice just for the difference in the price of the cooler alone. Now figure you go on 6 of those weekends a year, it will take almost 5 years to see the difference "IF" either cooler lasts that long. Most working people are lucky to get 3-4 weekends of time each year.. Just do an "old timer" trick and freeze large bottles of water into sealed blocks. It lasts longer no matter what cooler you have..... BOOM! no buying ice at all. Keep one in the freezer (if available) and switch them out.

Pretty sure my Orca 20qt is hollow at the top. It doesn't keep ice for more than a day, inside a cool house.
I've warrantied 3 and had to drill holes into what seems hollow space. Also the mesh bash on all of them seems to have been applied by a 3 year old. It looks horrible. Not what I expected for American made quality. They keep doing the warranty no issue though but still, it's annoying they don't seem to have a quality product. I'm right now in the process of getting the soft sided cooler so we'll see how it goes. Warranty on that is only 3 years and the reviews don't look good. But then again Orca 20qt has great reviews and in my experience a pretty horrible product.

Some Orca coolers are made at the Igloo factory in Katy, TX. I know because I've taken the factory tour and seen it done. There is rotomolding and insulation fill which I've watched them do. No Chinese parts unless they get the plastic from China. The hinge pins, bumpers and latches could be made on the moon for all I know.
One thing that impressed me since I ordered a 40qt after the tour was that mine was shipped(from Katy, TX ) in an Igloo Trailmate 50 box. It fit perfectly so I'm guessing that means that the Orca has 10 qts more insulation.
