I find really decent coolers at thrift stores. My fishing cooler, I have no idea who made it. I picked it up, basically, by someone's garbage can. I got a Lifetime 64 on sale at Sam's Club, might as well say for a $100, for camping and it does such a good job I'm thinking of taking our little refrigerator out for more room.

Those new generation Yeti style coolers are amazing, but the truth is that most people (myself) only need it to keep things cool for the day. When my wife and I go on fishing trips we always take the Coleman over our Yeti, it's lighter, and because of the thinner walls just holds much more. The Coleman will easily keep ice in all day on the hottest days. good video.

My favorite cooler is any brand that keeps food ice/cold for a weekend camping, AND also has latches that keeps raccoons out! Last camping trip, I had a London broil, and chicken for fajitas get stolen by those little bandits. For practical camping purposes, the style of latches are important…

Personally I have a multitude of reasons why I bought a rotomolded cooler. First is that I like quality products and I am quite hard on my tools and such. Secondly my cooler lives in the side box of my work truck and on the railroad a black box gets very hot especially when your on rail all day. I needed something that could handle the extreme temps I was working with an buying ice everyday does add up. The Orca I bought keeps ice for 5-7 days in a black metal box(essentially an oven) on the railroad where rail temps are routinely 100+ during the summer. I have no regrets buying a rotomolded cooler but with caveat of knowing it's not for everyone. If you cant stomach the price and are conflicted about it then for the average person an Igloo or Coleman will work fine for day trips.

  • @paulcarlin5181

As I slowly age, I have come to realize lugging around a hard roto molded cooler is an overrated experience especially if your ice retention needs are 1-2 days max. I am more into the soft coolers now.

I've got a 100 quart cooler that I use a lot specially during hunting season.
I put a couple bags of ice in the bottom and I can fit two quartered deer in there and let them age in the cooler for a week and the ice is still mostly there. And that's in Texas where deer season means temps in the 90's most of the season.
Now if you want yeti or arctic quality but made in America and cheaper look at lifetime branded coolers. Their plants are in Utah and Kentucky. I've got one of their fishing kayaks that's not supposed to be used in Rocky white water but has handled it and the abuse that comes with fishing those kind of waters for several years.
Yeti and arctic are American owned but Chinese made so that means you are paying a premium for the name not the manufacturing that's why I try and get lifetime brand products from coolers to tables. They are proof that you can build a quality product in America by Americans and be more than competitive in price. Yeti and artic are charging for the name more than the product itself.

Ive always been a fan of the cheap coleman coolers. Old reliable. My dad has a vintahe green one from the 70's that still works great. Being a jeeper tho id recommend somethint with latches so you dont lose your beer. Yeti coolers are great but at that price youre really just showing off to your friends like "look at my $300 cooler ya peasants" all that to throw a 12 pack of Budweiser and a $2 bag of ice lol.

The one thing you didnt talk about is weight. Igloo with marine grade latches and hinges make the best all around coolers. A full 50 quart igloo cooler (fish and ice) is a one strong man carry cooler. Same size in Yeti type is a two strong man carry cooler. For the 15 or 20 qt size use either one but figure the yeti type to be a load. Use a beach cart. Then there are the ones with wheels…NO.

You don't need $300 coolers. Stop using cubed ice!
Find a plastic container with a cover that fits in the bottom 25% of your cooler. Fill it - freeze it - drop it in. Plus ... you can use the water when it melts. Drinks on top of the container, trays of snacks above those.
I use old Gal milk jugs for my larger cooler. (they equal 8#'s of ice each) (don't fill them all the way up) Great for fresh water at the end of the day to wash me & the deck down.
Block ice will last 3 times longer than cubed. If you wrap bare block ice in newspaper to about 1/4" thick it will last even longer.
If you can't freeze large ice .... find an "Ice Carver" in your area. They have large block ice scraps they'll sell or give away. My local Carver trades a garbage can full of ice for a 24 pack of beer. Enough for my 120 qt in the boat and 2 - 40 qt coolers to the brim.
(Bring a small hatchet with you. Makes it easy to chop to fit more in your cooler)

Igloo all the way. I could buy a Yeti, but if I turned my back on it for a minute and it walked off I would be too pissed of to enjoy my weekend, and I live in a neighborhood where they steal the paint off your car. If you're down to just ice and water at the end of the day, it's still keeping your beer cold and your dead fish are still dead. Go cheap, more money for beer! Great video!

Its been to so many beaches in florida, on many boats inshore and offshore. Its flown off boats doing 55 running to shore from a storm. Its been down the rivers of the texas hill country. Its been camping up and down the appalachians. Its been on the banks of the everglades. I spent $25 to replace the two broken hinges and broken latch with recycled fire hose latches and hinge. We put in in the truck bed and hid watching . Took fifteen minutes. Then some scummy locals in a shitty truck drove up and grabbed it. It was thrown on the side of the road by the bridge when we left. Hope they spilled some on them .still laughing.

I saw a few videos saying how they're great and have oce retention up to 4 days or something. Which is good for the price, the size is also good for the price compared to rtic and yeti. I feel like as long as it is a rotomolded cooler, it should be good enough. Not as good as a yeti, but for the price, ita great.

Hey we appreciate the videos but the cooler y’all keep forgetting is PELICAN! And lifetime brand from Wally World…. They are far superior to most coolers….. MADE IN THE USA….. I’ve never seen a RTIC or yeti made in the states? The grey lifetime 28 qt is a great contender in this contest and the pelican 30 is flat amazing, it is guaranteed for LIFE!! if you prechill the cooler and use folding ice packs at the top of the cooler they keep ice for days and days in the Kansas heat . The latches on the pelican are extremely easy to open.

I'm looking for a good Beach cooler, meaning 1 that can roll well on Sand but they don't seem to exist. Rovr has the best wheels, but they don't seem quite large enough FOR SAND (Unless the sand is FLAT), Igloo Trailmate has large wheels, actual separation between the wheels and the cooler (which you need when rolling on loose sand) but they're squared off and plastic. Those seem the only legit options for beach sand that I've found. I honestly don't understand how the majority of these coolers with wheels have almost ZERO separation between the wheels n the cooler. I guess that's ok on most ground surfaces, but sand? NOPE........NOPE!!

A tailpipes heat should not do that to a $300 cooler. They're so expensive and made so cheaply. Ill buy a cheaper brand rotomolded cooler any day. Still has multi day ice retention. The coolers are not worth $300, people just pay it for the status symbol it serves as. Like thise stanley cups costing $50-$60. Its a status symbol and people pay because its supposed to be a flex to pay for overpriced stuff lol. And the only one winning are the ones selling it. I think a melted cooler is more of a reason to throw away a cooler than a broken handle lol.
