yeah why is the audio on this talk so unprofessional? I have watched loads of ted talks and never heard it as bad - and coupled with the disclaimer too??????? (I just watched a pro choice one and no disclaimer, more a warning about comments - good sound too) it's almost as if ted.....
How does this warrant a disclaimer of "some viewers may be offended by it". I can't imagine a woman or man being offended by this? I would assume that abortion would be something that some feminists are in favor of and others are not and that they would all support each other because well, they are women holding each other up. They say that men have no say in abortion and they try to make us stay out of the conversation, but you can't tell this woman that her opinion doesn't matter or is offensive.
What you just described is literally pro choice. Pro choice gives women the choice to choose if they PERSONALLY want to abort or not. Pro life is the idea that NO woman should EVER abort, and that abortions should be made illegal. I completely support women who don't want abortions but I also support women who do. It is every woman's individual CHOICE, hence the name pro-choice. The implementation of pro-life is dangerous, it won't stop women having abortions it will simply stop them getting SAFE abortions by ACTUAL doctors. Also yes you are correct, men have no place in a conversation on women's bodies.
@@Yasmine-mn6gw Where I come from, the government is not pro choice either. It doesn't allow people to do anything they want with their bodies. It doesn't allow me to swing a knife close to someone's throat. It only allows me to do whatever I want with my body as long as it doesn't affect another human body with a different DNA and different life.
I'm sorry but women having children is a man's problem too,why should we as women feel ashamed to have a child because the man we slept with decides it's an incovenience to him so we should just kill our child for his convenience? No way. Pro-life is definitely feminism at it's truth. Hold men accountable for the children they help procreate.
You are actually defending ProChoice, because your point is that it should be the woman that decides to have the child and not somebodyelse telling her what to do. I'm absolutly pro choice because it's the woman's body, pregnancies still can be difficult and dangerous and in my opinion forcing a woman to get a child is bodily and mentally violence. And on the other hand there is a big difference between a baby and a few days or week old fetus which only has the potential of a human being. I don't belive it's an easy choice for any woman and I think society should provide much more help to mothers but in the end it's a choice any woman should have the right to choose for her own and don't be forced on her.
I disagree. I'm also strongly Pro-Life but every individual has the right to be a parent or not in a non-violent choice. It's like your portraying that women should kept their babies against their will. Men also have a choice to be a parent as women is. The decision of being a parent is often decided by women and men should be held accountable against their will, where the decision of being a parent for that child was only made by the woman which is self-centered.
when she said "When we accept abortion as necessary in order to be successful as women we are actually perpetuating patriarchal society because we are saying that women need to fit into our society rather than society needing to fit us" that hit hard

@@jamesk3612 I would like to agree with this, however this is not how our society (American) functions. Often our laws perpetuate actions. I'm speaking from personal experience, as someone who once lived off the backbone of society and knew every trick in the book.
@@jamesk3612They are. Abortion literally just perpetuates the patriarchy even more. Sice women continues to get abortions, well continue to make it harder for women if they get pregnant.
So forcing unwilling women to carry a pregnancy that she's unable to mentally and/or physically handle is "pro-woman" ? What if she commits self-harm (to self induce miscarriage) or suicide ... who's to blame .. you ?
Absolutely. I'm tired of people acting like we don't exist or can't exist. Feminists for Life is another great organization that's helped a lot of women and families.
What an excellent talk on true, real feminism. Women are taught to be more like men to be successful. How about we start empowering women to be more like *WOMEN*? Abortion is neither a benefit to men or women, but if one did benefit from it, men do. Let's address the root causes of abortion, so that we can better know what women need to not be afraid to become mothers.
No, you can't, because birth is the natural outcome of pregnancy. To suggest that banning abortion is "forcing women to give birth" is the same as saying that banning suffocation is forcing women to breathe. If they don't use force to end the life of their baby, they will give birth. The force is the act of abortion.
@@harleygator Statistically, giving birth is more dangerous to pregnant people than a safe abortion would be. Also, being pregnant is not just about letting life do its thing. It actually affects the pregnant person's LIFE all through their pregnancy (and after the birth, as well, though that is a separate argument)! But I guess we know that the pregnant person in your eyes is just a fetus-growing machine. Enjoying the weather in Gilead much?
@@hannamakela6989which is another issue in of itself. Abortion is pushed because of terrible healthcare for women when they give birth. This is another problem with the patriarchy. @@latonyanewsome0forced abortion is bad, too, as is the lack of socioeconomic safety nets for those who would choose to give birth. That does not mean taking away the possibility and feasibility of abortion. Hence, pro-choice, all the way.
@@hannamakela6989your view is nonsensical, regressive, and scoffed at by first wave feminists who were much more intelligent and courageous than you will ever be. Hold that L
Feminism and pro life are two different things. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. Meanwhile Pro life is simply someone who supports the idea of a living being keeping their life. When women say it's their body and they can do with it whatever the please then okay...go ahead. Although pregnant women have a baby in their stomach meaning it's another life so that woman doesn't have the right to kill that innocent being anymore.
That all sounds great we'll and good. The problem is that the examples of what you gave in the end are reality. Ideally we need to be working on both pregnancy and social issues affecting women at the same time but that just is not and probably will never happen. We have a Supreme Court that looks like it may be getting ready to overturn Roe v Wade and in the same breath a Congress that refuses to enact Pais parental leave. Most pro lifers are not for social safety net programs. It will literally never happen meanwhile you have a situation where yep.....that abused woman will certainly now be "stuck" to that abuser, the college student will have to drip out, and the working woman will have to either risk her family's financial security to take unpaid leave if she is even eligible for FMLA or just go right back to work as soon as she's discharged from the hospital. This is reality.
@Harleygator That argument is super disingenuous. You want abortions to stop. I want them to stop, too. I want them to stop and for our society to he a happier, healthier place for families. If you look at actual data on anything our society has banned, you will find that prohibition whether that be alcohol in the 20's, or the war on drugs, or even abortion bans are ineffective and are bad for society. Prohibition causes crime, increased social injustice and is bad for society. The only thing that has ever been evidence based for any of these things is harm reduction. So how do we use this to stop abortions? We remove barriers for women continuing their pregnancies. We increase access to health care, affordable child care, and parental leave. We increase access to safe, affordable housing. We work to expand access to education , we work to ensure a living wage for workers. Thus we drastically reduce the DEMAND for abortions. Accomplishes the same goal in a way that actually strengthens families. Win win right? So why do pro lifers always jump to this......"so you want to eliminate social ills blah blah blah". There ARE 2 ways to do this. You decrease supply or you decrease demand. Decreasing demand is far more sustainable in the long run. You want people to have babies? You incentivize them to do it. There are LOTS of countries on planet Earth that do this and they certainly aren't falling apart economically. What you are dog whistling when you make this argument is that you want to punish women for getting pregnant outside of the very narrow confies your religious beliefs dictate to you.
