The hardest part for someone to learn Manual is to take the car to the learning spot in the first place
Well for me its actually finding a car to learn in at some point soon. Although I dont know how things will change when i get a permit, and later on a license

Most older cars, you can’t just move off using the clutch. The car will stall. You need to accelerate a little while you come off the clutch.
Yes! Mine doesnt make enough torque to do it on its own either. I gotta give it some help.
I think I’ll just get an automatic car💀 I was driving my dad’s car at 13, but that was a jeep not no damn math test to drive a car
@@zay_gzs5635If you love cars, i promise its the best thing ever. I get so bored just driving an automatic, the thrill of shifting and having more control over my car makes me smile like a child.
Balance the clutch and the gas
If it still stall then push the gas a little more then slowly release clutch
I have never lifted off the clutch without feeding the engine with the accelerator and I’ve been driving manuals for 33 years.

Honestly the most that would help anyone with this is help begin explaining the bite point of the clutch.
How about finding the right seat adjustment for the driver first?
And that you add fads while still on the clutch not after the clutch is completely off
Yeah the biting point needs to be pointed out. Also slight accelerator is needed in alot of cars to get it rolling or you will stall. Especially if you are on a hill then it is necessary.
My dad told me once, hey buddy you feel it hook. I mastered it soo fast that’s to that 1 top
Or when in doubt push the clutch in. If it is about to stall you can always put the clutch in and keep the engine running and the car from bucking

One tip: if you start to feel the car roll, dont take ur foot as fast from the clutch that is shown in the video! The car won't stall, but it will jump awkwardly forward.
Using Kangaroo petrol that is called
So lift the clutch slowly until its fully of the foot?
@@Garfire1 you can do that as slow as possible, but its not ideal without using the throttle. Only egines with a lot of torque can handle this comfortably without the use of throttle, like a diesel or powerful petrol/gasoline engine. It's much better to find the balance between clutch and throttle. When you start to feel the clutch grip to the engine (car starts vibrating, maybe even rolling a little bit) you need to give it a little bit of throttle. Just keep practicing this until you find the perfect balance between lifting the clutch and giving some gas. This will also differ from car to car. Goodluck!

Taking your foot off the clutch when it just barely bites and moves the car will stall the car, when you feel the clutch engaging start from there to help it with the gas pedal up to 1500 rpm and then release the clutch the rest of the way but still slower than in the video.
1,500rpm is too high from a dead stop, the lower the Rpm the longer the lifespan of the clutch will last. At least 700-800Rpm is perfect from a standstill stop.
@@static_Tricolor_camry the guys who are just learning to drive standard tranny will have a hard time not stalling out so the more rpm the easyer is to not stall and as they progress and know how to drive it they can lower the rpm if they care about 30k miles extra on the clutch.
Every single car has different engine, transmission, clutch, gearbox, they will all have different biting points and will each require different rpms to engage/disengage from the clutch throughout all the gears. Your car will yes likely need about 1500rpm, but everyone else will be different.

Don’t just slip the clutch until it starts to slowly move, you have to add some throttle when releasing the clutch, or you’ll wear out the clutch and/or stall out every time
Nah you won't stall (unless you suck) and there will be no abnormal wear. Most of the time clutches fail if you overheat and glaze the eff out of them.
Someone isn't experienced enough with efficient clutch release
In a diesel car if you floor the clutch and slowly remove your foot your engine won’t stall and your car will run at a crawling speed. I have done it till 3rd gear without even touching the gas paddle. When at 3rd gear the car runs at 30 kmph. The clutch doesn’t wear as a matter of fact the mileage increases significantly. Same thing can be done in a petrol car but it needs more bhp.
Clutch won't wear, it'll actually wear more if it's slipping on a higher rpm.
Adding throttle will wear it more.
I learned how to drive with a manual but I’m still voluntarily watching this video
I have a Manual . It is not as easy as He is saying it
@@wallyray62 true, and different cars have different clutch characteristics. He just mentioned the very basic principles.
In Europe is more common the manual cars. So, no one's trying to show off his skills, because is normal to drive a manual car. In addition, people do not clarify that they have a manual car, because it is understood that they have that car
@@adaplay13 I always envy you Europeans. You get a looooot of cars with manual. Here in Southeast Asia (at least in my country), most cars are only offered in auto with no manual option. No manual A3, Focus, M4, 911, Mustang, and everything else. They exist of course, but either it’s a base trim cheap car or something very rare like a 911 R. You can import any car as long as it’s not a used car (unless you’re willing to pay a lot of money) so you can always request anything to your dealership, but heavy traffic means hardly anyone want to drive a manual.
Keep in mind that smaller engines need gas as you slowly release the clutch and it starts to bite, and there is no reason to release the clutch that quickly clutches dont like shock and it can increase wear
Tickle the gas pedal
This is the best instruction I have ever seen, I have been driving stick all my life but I am not good at teaching others to drive, this one helps, thanks 🙏
"How to stall a manual transmission car" is more like it. You need to rev the engine by pressing the throttle at the same time that you let go of the clutch. In a fluid motion.

Clutch is your best friend. Best tip is to practice in a parking lot and on hills. You will stall on hills when you first start. So mastering them early can save you some humility. Reverse is also a point of difficulty as for some cars the car pulls you back and you're not ready. Best way to learn is definitely by doing though, you'll mess up alot but you'll get good.
+100 on this one! Learned driving stick on winding narrow uphill and downhill streets. Makes your clutch game spot on!😁
Ngl he got that Logitech shift knob
The funnest part is when you're going uphill. So fun.
When I teach people to drive stick I don’t even start with them using the gas pedal. I let them get to know how the clutch works and where it catches by practicing using the idle. If u do it right you’ll be able to get the car moving by the idle speed alone.
You sir are a great instructor 🙌
My instructor taught me that, too. The car was junk, though, with overly sensitive accelerator pedal and would jump from the start if you apply even the modest amount of gas.
Yes
It's weird seeing all the comments that says "you have to Rev at 1,500 rpm from stop just to move" they don't know idle alone is enough.
Yes!! You dont need the gas pedal to get rolling.
Fact no one needs to know: In Germany we have restrictions in our drivers license wich tells you if you are allowed to drive a car with manual transmission: You are only allowed to to drive cars with manual transmission if you did your drivers license with a manual transmission car. You have to take additional driving lessons wich cost you arround 2000$ if you want to drive manual transmission if you only have a automatic drivers license.
That is the dumbest shit I’ve heard. What is the reasoning behind that?
In England theirs Automatic and Manual driving tests and you have to start again if you want to drive a manual if you have an automatic licence
@@charliejackson7640 but why I just don’t see a reason behind that. You learn to drive a stick in like a day or 2 at most

If you don't press the gas whilst letting go off the clutch the car will stall/turn off with older cars. Just to keep in mind if you're not driving a newer car, also gasoline vs diesel makes a huge difference
Lol I learned in a petrol car but after passing my test I got my Mums diesel she said go steady it probably won't be forgiving as the car you learnt in. It was nearly impossible to stall it. The car would set off in 3rd gear without stalling and I even got with accidentally dumping the clutch in 4th gear at 8mph thinking I was in 2nd.

I thought it was gonna be one of those shorts where they say “R is for Race Mode”
The hardest part of learning a manual now is finding a manual car
We had couple new civic hatch manuals arrive on the lot and I must say it's literally child's play. With all the assists the clutch is like a sponge and takes the fun right out of it. Quite disappointing
Great tutorial!
One small comment on breaking at the end: you should actually only push on the break without touching the clutch when you start breaking. This helps you break more effectively because you're also engine breaking. Only start pushing on the clutch too at the end when you're about to come to a full stop (so you don't stall).
My dad used to drive a 1993 Izuzu Amigo with a manual transmission, and when he drove an automatic, he accidentally brake checked the person behind him when he tried to shift
exactly, that's why when you shift to automatic people always tell you to only use your right foot, for both throttle and breaking, that way it's harder to mess up; if you use left foot for brake you'll automatically go for "clutch" which is nonexistent
Most important lesson from a longevity standpoint not covered in this short is not to ride your clutch. Aka when you are at a stop put it in neutral and take your foot off the clutch. You'll reduce wear and tear on your clutch and throw out bearing.
Key part to learning is finding the contact point in every clutch as you release it from the bottom. It will hit a point where it’s just about to stall and needs to add rpm or it will die. That is step 1 so you understand how a clutch works
Instead of adding rpm you can hold your foot at that point and let the car do its thing
That’s the first thing I had to learn, driving a 94 triton with a government replaced heavy duty clutch that is extremely late. You’ve almost got to pull the clutch all the way out before hitting the balance point and contact point.
Everybody gangsta manual fan until it’s an uphill road or traffic
Him:how to drive a stick
Me:I don't want to drive a stick I want to drive a car
You've just shown how to stall the car really 😂 you can lift the clutch faster but maybe not quite that fast
I'm sayin. Trying to explain manual in a short video is probably the dumbest thing I've seen. Pt2 pt3 pt4 doesn't matter but watch a genuine tutorial that doesn't try to squeeze things into a certain time frame.
I did this once an made my grandpas truck buck like a fucking horse for 20 feet or so before it stalled
just pause when you feel the bite and than lift off completely
First, let go of the clutch to see where the car will die at
Quick tip if you see a R on the stick make sure you shift it to the R when you top out the gears it stands for race mode like it gives you an extra boost and allows the engine to get more air
For me the hardest part was learning to start on a hill. The rest only took a few minutes of practice back and forward in an empty parking lot to gain familiarity. It's those hills i didn't like.
How would you get to said empty parking lot if you can’t already drive stick 😂

You see that r gear position
It's called rocket mode in case some dude with a Lamborghini challenges you for a race

Don't forget to tell them about R for "Race mode"
It's fun to see people learning to drive a manual car, in my country, most of the people uses manual cars lol
This is really useful for someone who is just starting to drive a manual, nice tips 👍
U have to get to the bite point and then give it a little gas 1500 rpm do not quickly get ur foot off the clutch or u will either stall or wear the clutch out which will cost u alot. This guy is wrong once u have gotten to the bite point and given it a little gas then slowly complete ur release off the clutch :)
@@danthesolarman6480 that’s good to know, thanks for the info
daamn.....
Damn I'm always amazed by this kind of video haha, everyone only drives manual gear box in Europe. You forgot to mention that you need to give a little gas when releasing the clutch, the car is usually to heavy to roll only with the clutch, especially if it's flat / slightly uphill
When I was learning manual the hardest part for me was downshifting smoothly.
Its for diesel tho, the others need a bit of reving in combo with the clutch to go
Nah, you can totally do it without gas in a petrol car as well. Unless you kinda suck.
@@AR-zq9hq it really depends. The car I drove at the auto moto school barely made it with gas so yeah...
@@cristiandinulescu688 clutch control. I've done it in a Lada.
@@AR-zq9hq up hill in my old 45hp polo with a passenger has to be pinned to even have a chance LMAO
If my car is cold and the ECU/TB is dumping in lots of fuel and revs are already high, I can get going without feeding fuel for obvious reasons. Once at op temp I have to feed fuel or else it will cut out. This is probably true with many manual cars.

Some petrol cars won't pull on just the clutch itself, you have to balance the gas and the clutch, it's also important to hold the clutch for a little bit, not immediately release as you did. Finding the bite it's called. For a hill start for example you're going to want to hold that clutch half lifted approximately while giving it gas, a bit more than for flat and don't release the clutch till the gears completely engaged with N kangarooing or stalling. Older petrols are more prone to stalling if you don't get this just right. Diesels are easier. All a lot more fun than an automatic imo.
The best way I’ve heard someone explain it good hob

When going from 0 mph and letting of the clutch usually you should think that:
When letting go from the clutch have the rpm around 2000
Also think that the effect of the clutch is noticeable the higher up you are. “Let go slowly and then all the way” isn’t a great tip, it should be more like “let go of the clutch in normal speed but the higher up you come the more slower you go”
Remember also every car is geared differently while 2,000 works for you it may be different for someone else’s vehicle
You don't need to use the gas but it's way faster with gas because you can let go off the clutch faster
It's better to use the accelerator, and shift into the 2nd gear. Being in the 1st gear isn't good for the clutch plate.
@@gamechep Please explain to me how being in first gear damages the clutch in any way? I learned manual on a 600whp mustang gt, and it's never needed any tranny work, besides the time my dumbass burnt the clutch out by riding it like my life depended on it.

I agree but manual transmission is dying out. New cars wont have them anymore. There is already less and less cars that have them.
@@CanariasCanariass depends, outside from america it's still the commonest choice. but ev has no gears so
@@qualcunoacaso4865 I understand sports cars but I still don't know why most of the world still drives manual normal cars. Autos are easier to drive, often more efficient and you don't have to worry about replacing the clutch.
