I've seen some flaws in all filters, even your favorite BOSS. One filter out of millions, wow. You even said you dont know if any of it got inside. That coating is applied after the filter is sealed. If you can see the flakes, then it 100 microns or larger and that filter has an absolute rating of 20 microns. Another sky is falling video. Learn a little about the subject of your video.
As i commented before, i think this is a setup. I conducted my own identical study, and found the cheapest fram to be a good filter. The more expensive fram filters are the highest quality i have found.
I get it that Fram makes a lot of super cheap filters. But it's pretty settled at this point that Fram Ultra and Titanium are quality filters. I wouldn't use the $6 version but the ultra and titanium are possibly the best you'll find on a shelf. Most people aren't going to hunt down an Amsoil, Royal Purple or VP racing filter. They're going to buy what's on the shelf at their local auto parts store
I always open the box look at the filter in the store before buying it. I've found other brands that look like crap in the box too.
And the filter war rages on…
please stop wasting air.
Read the box that's the design of base plate. Did you have engine failure? That's a good filter nothing wrong with any of the titanium design
These expensive filters should have a plastic cover like stp xl and amsoil. I had a similar problem with a KN and that was no cheap filter.
You may be able to get the Royal Purple Oil Filter at O'Reilly's by ordering on line. This was my previous oil filter on the 3.5 Edge. I just replaced it with a Fram Ultra Synthetic which looks much cleaner around the gasket than the Titanium (though the holes on the plate are close to what you saw on the Titanium). The Royal Purple was also about 1/4 inch longer than the Fram.
(If I posted twice, sorry!)
Titanium is just a re-branded Ultra for Advance Auto Parts. Same wire-backed synthetic media internal structure (which is superb, right up there with Royal Purple), different name and coating. I’ve never liked the grippy coatings… not when Purolator used them on the old PureONE series, not now on the Titanuim. But it’s not a deal breaker… I’d still pick this over most of the other filters in the video. My go-to is Royal Purple (made by Champion Labs), my backup is Fram Ultra or now Titanium. Purolator lost a routine customer in me when they had that huge, widespread, filter media ripping issue a number of years ago and for years denied that it was real, then changed their process with no explanation. I’ve used a few Of their new filters and honestly think they’ve fixed the problem, but they handled it very poorly and I won’t reward that.
It's been impossible for the last two or so years to find Royal Purple oil filters for my type r. I switched to the VP racing filters which are exactly the same as Royal Purple just a different color and way easier to get ahold of
Yeah let’s listen to the guy that doesn’t have proper lighting in his work area about flaking of a coating on arguably one of the best filters made. If it bothers you that much take a towel and wipe the seal off…. Coming from a Napa gold guy….
I have never liked Fram filters, even when they try to build a premium filter they find a way to mess it up. I use Bosch Premium oil filter on my 2011 Lincoln MKX, my 2014 Mustang and my 2019 Honda Insight, they work great at a very competitive price no complaints about Bosch Premium oil filters.
Most of them are made in the same factory.
There must be a shortage of coil springs they all have leaf springs now
Ultra, titanium endurance are the Best Fram filters the endurance is being compared to Royal filter even to the suggesting coming off the same line please do your research
Whip wrench videos has compared them side by side cut all the way open and under a microscope it doesn't get any better than that
Bill that is an older Motorcraft, that is not one of the newer ones..
Fram gave up on their quality in the early 90’s and has never attempted to recover. They were the goto filter back in the day but for whatever reason gave up on the quality aspect. There are tons of documented stories on the interwebz that show how their cardboard media comes apart and allows total bypass upon failure which seems to be a bigger issue than the coating flaking off. You would probably be better off leaving your boss filter on for a few thousand miles more after draining and refilling than risking your engine on the Fram name. Once it blows up they will laugh at you when you point to their filter.
Super tech will serve you well
I just received a Purolator Boss from Amazon with paint chips everywhere. So this is not exclusive to Fram.
without a video and photos to document your claim I can only place you in the troll category.
@@MACTFordEdgenot a troll. I returned it back to Amazon. They are paint chips from the beating they get from being shipped in an envelope.
Mine arrived in a box.@@elpcmaster
@@MACTFordEdge I am a fan of both Boss and the higher quality Frams. Going to Advance Auto parts to make sure my new Boss is not beat to hell from the Amazon shipping.
Fram's always been crapola!!! PUROLATOR's always been high quality!!!
Well, less of a problem than I thought. I’d still use it if I couldn’t get the filter of choice. The ultra filters just as well or better and it doesn’t have the coating all the way down. See if you can find one. Or maybe just stop cutting up perfectly fine filters 😂
I have installed Thousands of filters, the Frams by-far have been the worst for having metal shavings inside from poor threading, or the coating is chunked off and sometimes i have found bits of it inside the outlet section of the filter... now that alot of filters are going back to E-Cores like they did in the 2000's i expect to see alot of e-core failures too when it gets super cold up here (again)... I recall there being many failures in the napa select line back in the day. This is why i look down inside every single filter i install with a flashlight, every single time...
Did anyone contact Fram i would think they would want to fix that , that is the soul purpose of a filter to clean not introduce metal shavings
What a bunch of horse feathers.....could damage an engine , that paint isn't going into the engine !! . In all my years as an auto mechanic I have never seen engine damage due to an oil filter , issues due to not changing the oil but not from the filter . Fram is a reputable company and even the orange can of death is a bunch of bull . I'd use any on my car with a timely oil change.
Could you please clarify how you really feel?
Wtf I’d he talking about the die striking and sliding? Where?
Fram = J u n k
if i had 2 use a non AMSOIL / WIX filter it wood NEVER b a fram/pure junk...
This Fram titanium is an advance auto special. The full Fram ultra at Walmart is a higher quality product that I’ve never had an issue with.
Amsoil filters are made by the same manufacturer as the Fram Titanium and Endurance. They are basically the same filters.
😊
