I've tracked all my makeup products in an excel for years. I also track each days use of product and the cost per use. Each year I creat pivot tables of totals and most expensive categories etc. It is SO FUN for me, I'm very type A so I love tracking :)
I can see the end result being fun for me (figuring out the cost per use, which products I use the most - comparing the numbers at the end of the year) but I just know I wouldn't bother to put all that work into it haha. Really glad to hear it works for you!
Just coming from Shawna 😊 I want to do both contentment and no buy year 😁 I think they go perfect together... I hope 😅 so exciting!!! I more stumbled into all this last year but this time I just want to do it right as in really preparing and thinking about it, being more conscious. Putting more effort and planning into it. You and Shawna inspired me so much the last year! And I'm trying to be positive and believe that I can do it 🤞
Yay I'm so glad to hear that! I agree, contentment year and no buy make a lot of sense together because they're all about being happy with what you have. I believe in you too!!
I just finished watching your video and you KILLED IT!!! I'm so glad you mentioned inventorying everything because I totally agree that this helps a LOT and can be a wake up call in itself. Thank you for collaborating with me again. I love you and your content 💕
Not to call myself out, but I just filmed my inventory the other day and UGH it's such a wakeup call that there's some categories that need decluttering 😬
I always declutter things to give to my sister, she uses everything up! She’d be such a good RUclips project panner because she’s uses everything up. She never buys makeup and just waits for me or mom to hand over things we don’t use. I am doing a makeup no buy in 2023 so she’ll have to do without 😂
You were so spot on when you said inventory. I wrote down all my makeup by category except lipsticks. I discovered I have too many eyeshadow palettes. I am putting myself on a no buy of makeup & skincare. I will use oldest foundations first. I’ll take your recommendation of using my cream products ( I don't have many). I also decided to try panning by brand (Stila & Fenty).
After such a frantic December, I'm finally catching up with your videos. Starting 2022 I did an inventory of all my makeup and I was shock with the huge amount of lipsticks and body sprays I had, so I went on a strict no buy on those categories and on a low buy for the rest. I followed your tips from your no buy videos and they've been really helpful for me. Thanks to my year long rolling 10, partners in cream and graveyard project pans, I finished 30 products in total, a total success for me. In the process I learnt about my makeup preferences and to multipurpose my makeup. And for the tracking, the app HabitShare was a life changer for me. It's quite easy to use and I can update my makeup usage of the day while I'm on my way to work in the bus without being limited to have a notebook on hand. I'm excited to see your makeup inventory and how it evolved during the 2022. Happy starting 2023 ^^
No I didn't actually! I bought the hair clip I'm wearing here in a market and a shirt in a vintage clothing store but that's it! I did go into a couple of makeup stores out of curiosity but didn't buy anything
Interesting video. Even though I'm a rainbow when it comes to makeup I have a very small collection of things. The way I have resisted the temptation of buying stuff (eyeshadow and liquid lipstick basically) is that I never repeat a shade. A pallette has to have a significant difference in color to everything I own for me to consider it. Also using eyeshadow as blush and not buying any powder blushes was the best decision ever. I gave away my 2 blush pallettes and I don't miss them. The last thing is everything has to be in a pallette. If I exclude my 3 cream blushes and 2 creamish highlighters I don't have singles. To sum it up you have to know what you prefer and stick to it without buying doubles. And if I can recreate all the colorful vibes with only 6 pallettes then it is even easier for a neutral lover 😛😉
I'm definitely doing a no buy year for 2023, and I think mixing some of Shawna's contentment stuff into it will really help. I'm really not interested in trying anything new at the moment, and i'm really loving what I own. I'm going through a real basic moment with my makeup, which I think helps a lot. Pretty much everything is neutral and it's a variation of warm browns, cool browns, bronzes, mauves, pinks, or champagnes. Occasionally I want to use something else, but not often. I've attempted multiple no buy years in the past, and failed spectacularly every time. Each one has gotten easier though, and i've lasted for longer on each one. I really do think i'm done this time though. I'm feeling very bored with everything and have other interests now. I think having moved continents, resetting up a life, and finding all my stuff from years ago has had an impact. I really want to streamline things, but in a way where I use them up. And i'm definitely finding that the amount of stuff I need to keep myself engaged is getting less and less, which is good. I'm also going to attempt another project pan next year. I've had a couple of years off because things have been chaotic, and in the beginning project pans were making me buy things because I was bored. I'm recognising those triggers now though so things should be easier.
Yay glad to hear it and good luck on your no buy!! It's always a great feeling when you're happy with what you have in your collection, and I hope that continues for you :)
Great companion videos! I really want to settle in, be content with and use what I have this year. I just want to try all the makeup and need to fight against that urge. We need to try to strike a balance during this makeup renaissance that we’re in. It takes quite a while to go through products. I think it helps to set numbers of what you are comfortable with having in each makeup category, then work towards keeping to that amount. Two out, one in might be a good rule in the areas where you have more products than you would like. And like you said, it’s important to have fun and not be too hard on yourself. I really appreciate the content that you and Shawna create. Happy Holidays!
I definitely want to put together a panning project that contains one product from each make up category. Definitely want to put my fav products in there. I'm not expecting all will be finished in a year but rather see/find out how long they even last. I noticed I need to be careful not to put much pressure or guilt on myself to use/use up things/not buy because it really seems to pull me down and stress me and I then feel compelled to make me feel better by buying more crap 😐 so I try to focus on the positives, try to see it more as a journey and adventure to more contentment and fulfillment. Replacing the focus on material things with real experiences and joys, only thinking on what can be gained instead of what I need to loose, deny or stop doing.. If I tell myself... It's not too deep, it will be fun and why not try our best I think I can find the energy... If I tell myself :you have to do it, buying so much is bad, think about all the wasted money, you need to be stronger willed etc... I just wanna eat ice cream and online shop
Oof that sounds like a vicious cycle with stressing yourself out about not finishing things and then buying more makeup. because yes, makeup should ultimately just be fun!!
I think everyone does it differently! I actually haven't run out of anything while on this no buy so I haven't 'had to' purchase any makeup - except for liquid eyeliner
I'm also thinking about decluttering things I know I can't really use... Especially if they're basically new you at least have a chance to give them to someone who can use them. But there's also quite a few products I want to use to find out what my preferences really are. I'm a bit all over the place with colours and styles I like and I feel I need to put more effort into playing and experimenting to arrive at a place where I'm more sure or clear of what I really want to wear or own. Right now I feel interested in anything and everything wo really having put in the work to try and play. I think overbuying will always be an issue if you don't ever even figure out what really works for you... At least I have got this gut feeling that I just need to "put in the work" next year, deal with my makeup... Really put extra effort do to my makeup, use all the different kinds of products I bought and just figure it out
Im starting my no buy on March this year and my target is until 2025 since i got so many makeup and skincare that is too much for 1 person 🤣 2022 make me into intense buying since im stress out with my job. Now i quit my job and get into my feet again.

this is so up my alley. how did you calculate cost per use? especially for powder products
This was so helpful. Lara,, thank you!
Yay I’m so glad to hear!!
Your makeup, hair, jewelry outfit, etc etc is so cute!! I love this look
Awe thank you so much!! I'm actually uncertain how I feel about this hairstyle because the front pieces are so long so that's nice to hear ☺
@@laralikesmascara I was about to leave the exact same comment. Everything about this look is perfection
Yesss agreed!

hahaha she actually sounds like the ideal project panner, in some ways that's what I aspire to but at the same time I should sometimes just declutter!

Ooh panning by brand, that's an idea! I'm glad that inventorying helped you figure out next steps :)
Hope you have a lovely Hanukkah this year Lara! Your videos have been something I look forward to each week this year :)
Thank you so much Natalie!! What a lovely comment 😊
Your makeup look looks so much like you! Looks lovely, especially, eyeshadow.
Thank you so much!! It's actually mostly an eyeshadow I'm trying to pan hahaha. Perhaps I'll miss it a bit

Hi Lara, just curious if you did any beauty related shopping during your recent travels? Happy new year!

Wow good on you, sounds like you have figured out your makeup preferences super well!!

Is no buy not buying at all or only buying when you have to replace an empty product?

I feel that! I've figured out my preferences for the most part but still feel like there's many techniques/colour combinations that I haven't tried.

@chicgeek has some great project pans. You might get ideas there
