The biggest two takeaways I have from trying to focus on only buying what I will consume is that 1) it takes a lot longer to use up products, especially powder products, than I thought it would, and 2) when you are used to using shopping to distract yourself from your feelings, you will need to learn to deal with your feelings once the shopping stops, or you will turn to another unhealthy behavior to distract yourself.
I love my local buy nothing group. Whenever I declutter I post my items and I have a neighbor who loves it when I declutter makeup. It’s really nice to know that my neighbor will enjoy the items I won’t use. I also picked up great items. All my plants in my garden were gifted to me though the group this year.
I bought sooo much makeup in the past 2 years. All the makeup that the "influencers" recommended I bought. I hate when a product is popular for 1 week and ohh all the youtubers are saying is the best thing ever and then 1 week later another product is the best.
At this point, I am not aware of new makeup releases and I feel like I’m not missing out on anything 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve been doing one in and one out, which is pretty much a low buy practice for 5 years now✨ Makeup shopping has been super exciting because of this.
Im proud of myself , I haven't bought any new makeup this year (except replaceable like eyebrow pencils). I'm focusing in getting through the "brand new" makeup I bought before quarantine since we're back to work. I've gone through quite a bit so far this year. I will keep this no-buy up in hopes to buy replacements only in the years to come.
I found you through searching "no buy makeup" and as soon as you mentioned what you've been reading and what is about, I was in! Happy to be a new subscriber and fellow low-buyer!
Just found you as I desperately need to get myself on a no buy. It’s out of hand and it’s made me unhappy. I love your vibe!! I’m so happy I stumbled across your channel. Looks like I’m binge watching your channel 🥰 I hope you are having a wonderful week so far.
Hi! So happy to see this video. I am trying to be much more of a conscious consumer. I love the white top, dangle earrings! And the low bun! I used to buy makeup I didn’t need too. I now know what I like, what is practical for me, and what works for me. I don’t need setting powder, foundation, primer, glitters, eyeliners, etc. now knowing this, is gonna save me lots of money. Keep these videos up, I love them :) I’m so stubborn and I want to try to use up the makeup I have extra of/don’t typically use anyway, but I need to get over that mindset. That’s my next hurdle
In the past I’ve had some serious spending issues, I thought I needed everything and all the new things and have gotten way better at being mindful of my purchases. I decluttered a lot, put it all in a bag and now the bag with makeup worth $1500 has gone missing and although I don’t miss the products, I do miss the money. I have decided I need to hit pan in something to buy a new item from the same category
What I have: Blue, green and purple eyeliner, black mascara, brown mascara, 5 eyeshadow palettes (not a lot but..), about 15 lipsticks/glosses, 4 blushes, a highlighter palette What I wear: 4 lipsticks/glosses, some purple, pink and sometimes teal eyeshadow, some taupe shadows (including dark taupe that doubles as eyeliner), blackbrown mascara, 3 pearly pale nude/pink/cream shimmers that double as highlighter, the same pink blush.
@@laralikesmascara thank you!! i’m currently binging your whole no buy playlist to know everything there is to know before starting. your vids are so helpful!!
Omg.. I had a same phase with lip products. I wore them for like 8 months but accumulated a lot of lipsticks, like I bought 5 products of same burgundy lip shade to find that perfect shade of it. I barely wear lip products now 🤦♀
Omgoshhhh books too!? And non fiction at that. Your content is perfect. I read voraciously.. economics and politics are my main thing but I read a huge variety.
Hi Lara, thanks for the update. That book at the end sounds great! What are you starting your PhD in? I’m a PhD student and would consider myself a radical scholar-activist but have started to become a bit disillusioned with academia for some of the reasons you highlighted that the book discussed
Glad to hear your thoughts on this! I’m going to be studying documentary’s function as a tool for activism - my department and the individuals in it seem pretty radical so I’m really looking forwards to it, but the book is definitely sobering. Thanks for your thoughts ♥️
I’m not sure that conscious consumerism has changed due to sustainability growing in the last few years but rather a thought of it “not” due to the wack that has been the last 3 years...

Yes!! I wish I had known these groups were a thing years ago - so much better to give things away to people who want them than to throw them out :)

I am definitely going for a no buy year now. I have makeup that I cannot finish in a life! And a lot of it I don't even like that much unfortunately.
It's so easy to get sucked in - it took me years to recognize the issues with the RUclips/influencer/makeup brands system

Five years!! Wow that’s amazing! I hope to be at the point where I’m able to do that for years as well ☺️

I totally get it, I’m really stubborn about finishing my makeup too - I’m still working on this!!

Would love to see you do a declutter video
I did one a couple weeks back! And I have another coming soon :)
I would really suggest you to use those hot pink lipsticks to do a blotted lip look. It would look more natural and not as bold.
Thanks for the tip!! I’ll have to try that out!
Very wise. Thanks
Thanks!!
