I’m on the exact same journey as you right now. I’m not just over makeup but I’m tired of spending money to just let it waste in a drawer. Thanks for the reminder of being a mindful consumer. ❤️

Yes! I* guess we're getting older lol. I'm getting this feeling about a lot of things, too many nights out in my 20s clothes long forgotten, services paid for an under utilized. Pairing everything down and just seeing what actually does contribute to quality of life. It's very personal/individual. Necessities are not the same for everyone.

I’m right there with ya girl! It feels so good to use what we already have instead of mindlessly consuming. 🤗

It really does, I'm over the anxious twitch about new releases. I can safely say that's very last decade for me. ☺

It's so gratifying to hear other creators talking about this!! I actually have a super similar video I'm working on haha - why I stopped buying makeup (and it's a lot of the same reasons as you 😅)

It's exhausting, isn't it. It can be a vicious cycle until you get out but we're more than free marketing machines!

I love getting ready in the morning. But it makes no difference for me if my eyeshadow is by BH Cosmetics or By Natasha Denona. No one, absolutely no one is going to see the difference. I have really lost my interest towards new releases and trying out things. Getting more makeup just makes me overwhelmed and feel quilty about the money I spent. I really have enough products to create any look I would ever want to create.

What with being a new mom, new makeup must feel so much more insignificant too. Getting ready in the morning and enjoying what you have is enough. I hope you are doing well, Kattariina.

I completely agree with you !! Especially when you said "A blush is a blush " 😄 .. Like it's not going to make a huge difference in my face it's just a colour. I can't even think about spending £30 on something I'm not even going to wear on a daily basis. It's just things I need like concealer which I need to cover my dark cirlces and maybe a powder, a brow product, 1 bronzer, mascara and a 1 lip liner that I use all the time ( I don't even wear make everyday) But I haven't bought a new product since last year. It shows we don't really need to waste so much money. When I look in the past how much money I used to spend on just make up 😱..

Well, you've just gained another subscriber 😊
I have a makeup room that is choc a bloc full of products (I'm not a YT'r). I've done a couple of declutters but I'm still stuffed - if I lived to be 120 years old, I wouldn't need to buy another product! What I am buying now, is lots of storage 🙈
The only product I'm going to allow myself to buy, no limits, is a concealer. For me it's a holy grail item. I have very dark undereye circles, all I want is to find one I'm happy with.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next. 💗

I'm a new subscriber and was drawn to hit the subscribe button cos of how just... normal? and sane? your channel's objectives are. seeing the utility of our stuff whether they are practical or for the ongoing delight they bring is something that marketers have made us forget.... not buying the dream they sell us is hard at first and then becomes more and more the new normal...

I like the new normal you just described! Thanks for the kind words and I'm really happy you found this relatable.

Post lockdown I felt the same. What am I doing with all this stuff. Things out date and it all starts to do the same thing. I noticed the rise of luxury items and people buying it like it’s air we breath and I got very put off that’s what young people are aspiring to… I also decided to ease up and just finish and enjoy what I have… x

Aspiring to have a new thing which is impressive to no one, not even ourselves down the line. Yeah. it's redundant.

The same thing has happened to me. There was a moment where I binged beauty and RUclips was booming with fun exciting channels and product reviews and tutorials to explore. It was more adventurous than it is now. Now everyone wants to be “that girl” and after the Kardashians and the big butt trend started dying down some of us are looking at each other like this is weird let’s get more minimal let’s me be intentional. We’re realizing it leaves you feeling way more genuine satisfied and content.

A few days ago I watched a haul and got interested in an item, not that I need it but it is really pretty. It's from a high end brand and it's 60% off. And yesterday I remembered about it and started justifying in my head and even calculating the price 😅 I didn't get it, but sometimes things just pop into our head and it can be difficult to ignore them. It's super easy to just click add to cart and buy but we need to ask ourselves why we actually want it. Sometimes things are just pretty but that doesn't mean we should spend our money on them. This is a whole conversation and I already wrote too much haha Loved the video! 🤗

Omg, girl, I felt like I needed all of the pretty things! It's so tempting when they throw promotions, but 60% off is still 40% on and we need our money to live comfortably, have experiences, have security etc.. all the things makeup cannot guarantee.

I agree with everything you said! I had to stop watching as many beauty videos too, I was spending way too much on makeup every year. It was pretty stressful too to try to get new products and put up reviews, almost like a race. It’s so sad too that makeup expires we well. It’s nice taking a step back for sure and putting that money towards other things.

Yes, I know you've been on the same page for a while. With you working in the industry too, it must be next level. You see new things come and go. New launches from particular brands become ancient history in the span of 2 weeks.

I'm sometimes a bit surprised about influencers feeling sooo grateful and as a result pressured by PR... PR is dirt cheap compared to proper advertising. Companies don't do you favours, they don't wanna be your friends... They don't even see you as a proper business partner if you're not a huge influencer with millions of followers..
But still people feel or tell influencers they owe those companies anything as if they are second class peasants or have been given undeserved riches 🤔🙄 this is almost classist

    • @AlexaLikes
      @AlexaLikes  2 года назад +3

Exactly!!! Omg Even when you have a lot of followers, they don't respect you. For a short time I worked for an affluent medispa/gym that wanted to give local fashion/lifestyle influencers free injectables and training sessions in exchange for exposure (so cringe, I know). The marketing manager who I worked under knew I was also an influencer too, but she constantly talked trash about the people she was soliciting to participate - how superficial, stupid, spoiled and badly literate we apparently are. It's an extreme example, but i saw the other side!
We're supposed to be so grateful things are coming our way, but the influencer is the one doing labor usually for free.

the more ive grown older (turning 24 in march) the less I am interested in makeup. I only buy whatever I end up running out of! drugstore specifically because there is no such thing as fancy chemicals. you can alter formulations but its all the same shit! I am blessed to have been able to focus on my skin care and health, so now I really have no need for makeup. its a great feeling having that mindset of discipline. "I don't need it" and you don't either! great video. take that $60 eyeshadow pallet that is regurgitated every year out of your cart!

Well, you learned quicker than me, 34 in April lol! Watch out for the sun, alcohol and sugar - you're ahead of the game! I was more a sucker for eyeshadow & cheek products than complexion products once my acne cleared, up, but too much eyeshadow application probably accelorates wrinkles and eyelid discoloration.

Maybe because this channel was started in 2010. This video is about my choices not other people, your comment isn't clear
