What makes you feel this way? I had an 08 and loved it until it started guzzling oil and lifter tick started in. Was good on fuel and had 3.73 rear gear. Maybe should’ve repaired engine and kept that rig. Wasn’t all that powerful though liked to Rev a little to tow but I think that’s just how the 5.3 likes it in those years. Less to go wrong maybe not being direct injected.

@ first thing I did was capture the secondary vapor sludge before it re-circulates into the cylinder with a catch can. It captures about 4-5 oz. of the nastiest oil water mixer about every thousand miles. That’s a potential problem for all combustible engines now with the new emission restrictions. 5.0 8cylinder engine is the engine I now prefer over the multiple 5.3’s I’ve owned for the 20 years.

I'm still running my 02 Silverado ext cab long bed Z71 4x4. Paint, body and interior are in great shape. Engine was leaking oil at the rear main seal and I had low oil pressure. It has 348k miles on the original motor and transmission. I was considering getting rid of it but with the current prices of new and used cars, I thought it might be worth it to get the work done. 250k of the miles came in a 3 year period between 2017-2019, and are mostly highway, so I figured the motor was still good. I decided to spend the money and get the rear seal replaced and had the oil pump replaced at the same time. WOW am I glad that I did. It runs so good with 348k on it that it's scary. Even the GM lifter tap is gone after it warms up. FIX EM, DON'T SELL EM. Screw the dealers and these crazy prices.

I test drove a 2013 Silverado with the 4.8L V8. Drove very smooth. What stopped me from buying it was the fact that tailgate wouldn't shut, and interior trims were falling about. It was like $18k with 75k on it. Ended up with a '17 Ram with the 3.6 for $22k and 98k last year as it had double the gears, 3 horsepower more, and the Chevy said 12mpg above odometer and my Ram gets 18-20mpg.

I did most things you did to my '13 Silverado 1500. Best thing was the AFM disable and tune. I suggest you install an oil catch can because the PCV for mine isn't a valve at all but straight pipe from the vent into the intake. Mine also did not have a cabin filter so I installed a kit I got off Amazon; wasn't hard else it will destroy your HVAC. GM getting waaaaay to cheap to save a dollar so this would be my last one . One of my co-worker is married to a former technical advisor for K&N. Over dinner one night he fessed up to the fact that K&N's air induction systems were pretty much hogwash. Without additional extensive and expensive modifications and engine retuning the improvement in performance was so small as to be undetectable. Save your money and don't fall for bullshit marketing. And yes, it does make the engine sound different but that doesn't translate to horsepower at the rear tires.

Very true. They do state on their Dyno test sheets that only 20ish hp is gained at 4500 rpm, which is pretty negligible but they hype it like it’s gonna make your car a drag car. I do have my truck tuned and plan on adding a more free flowing exhaust in the future, so those two things will help. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thinking that a shade tree mechanic can out engineer the manufacturers is a steep hill to climb. @@lockman004 I look are it differently. I got the diablosport tuner and disabled AFM on my 2014 Silverado right away. I want to fend off valve problems as long as possible. I also went with the 87 octane retune because I'm not going to spend the $5/gal it takes to use premium (it's only going to go much higher now). I also plan to get the 2 inch leveler kit and a cold air intake. I'm not doing this for vanity/looks or sound, I'm doing it to solve problems. AFM increases gas mileage a little on the highway (mostly). Disabling it loses you maybe 2 mpg. I installed a throttle body spacer which is supposed to boost HP very modestly (maybe 5 hp?) BUT also improve gas mileage a bit too. The cold air air intake will give me maybe 10 HP and a few more lbs of torque BUT also improved gas mileage of a few mpg. The 2 inch leveler will reduce mpg itself but I want that 2 inches extra ground clearance up front - last snowstorm in my area dumped snow that was above the bottom of the air dam on the front of my truck with the lower front end. No like, but that "rake" to the stock truck (lowered front end) was done to improve mpg. Raising the truck reduces mpg. I'm hoping that between the small mods of throttle body spacer, cold air intake, tune from the diablosport, 2 inch leveler, and disabled AFM that my mpg will not change much at all, maybe even get slightly better, while also slightly improving the performance of my truck. I'm not trying to sound, or act, like a street racer here.

There is a yellow plug with 4 wires, the plug end going up start moving it around as you drive 2 different trucks. One off the 4 wires was broken on the inside. After I moved it around my truck started cutting in and out. I found a bad brown wire. And take the instrument panel out. And they is screws behind it there's on on the top left remove it, because the wires go over it and starts rubbing it.

I have a 2013 LT. The afm malfunctioned at 129000 mi. So I decided to pull the whole engine down for inspection. I deleted the afm(new cam, performance lifters, valley cover). The main and rod bearings looked bran new. The cylinders still had cross hatch in them. The o ly thing questionable was the oiler rings were carbon coated pretty bad. So I re-ringed it. Freshened up the the crosshatch, new bearings all around(even though it didn't need them). All new seals and gaskets. Timing gears and chain were in great shape. 👍 all in all, it was in pretty good shape for me using it to pull 7500 lbs most weekends of the summer as well as wheel it mildly. I expected it to be more worn than it was. I put a big trans cooler on it which made night and day difference with trans temp. A 2 5" leveling kit. I've had it for 4 years with no other trouble. So other than the afm, the engine can handle regular mild abuse in my opinion. 👍👍 It's the best half ton truck I've ever had. I like it so much that I've decided it's my keeper truck. I put a 17500 lb winch on it last week and plan to give it 6" or so of lift next fall.
