PLEASE DO THE CONSTANT!!! One of my favorite episodes of television of all time. My mom and I will to this day hop on facetime together randomly like once a year to watch it together.
I love Lost. I was a Lostie from beginning to end. And I would love more episodes about the show. Everyone has opinions about the trajectory of the show but I think people were lost with all of the flashes forward, backwards, and sideways. Add on top of that the many layers of Lost the story and you had to watch every week to keep up. My friends would ask me what was happening and I would roll my eyes. That's an hours long conversation not a 5 minute catch you up on the last 3 seasons. Anyway...loved the video. Do more.
Still a Lostie myself too. Was the end perfect? No, but it was impossible to have a perfect ending with so many moving parts. Crazy how many people say they hated the ending and yet are completely wrong about what they were trying to say. Yes, it would have been nice to get more answers to the mysteries but i didn't watch Lost because of the mysteries, i watched it because of the characters. And the knowledge that they all found each other again in this life or even the next was truly beautiful catharsis. The Island basically ended up like the Grey Havens from LotR.
@@doomraven0 Didnt you end with feeling, taht they went from interesting mysteries to bigger and bigger bullshit while providing minimum answers? That the show should end few series sooner? And then that ending... Progress of second half was not as bad as game of thrones, but quite like that and the aftertaste was the same
I binged all of Lost in lockdown and it’s easily one of my favourite shows. My mum loved it back when it was airing, and desperately tried to get me into it - even though I’d already been fed the lie that “everyone was dead the whole time” and had no interest. Eventually, I gave in and watched the pilot, expecting to hate it, and was instantly hooked. I didn’t put it down for weeks until I’d finished it.
So glad you finally covered a episode of lost, when I was like 8 in 2010 I remember my parents watching season 6 and now I’m 22 fully watched it 4 times and nothing will ever beat it
Same exact case for me down to the age and everything, it will always be my favorite series I watch A LOT of drama TV and I genuinely don't think it's possible for a show to come close to the scale of lost, especially since we're lucky if we get more than 8 episodes per season with most series now- no other show could go so in depth on character and world building
I've said this for a decade, LOST's pilot is one of the greatest in television history and I'll die on that hill. Back in 2004 I had been waiting for weeks for the pilot to air (because Dom Monaghan is in it and I was a HUGE LotR nerd) and watched it as it premiered.
I’ve just started watching Lost for the first time, and so far it’s absolutely AMAZING. I think it’s aged so well and I can’t wait to see where this show takes me.
I urge you to give the last 2 seasons another shot- it's always frustrating to me that they get chalked up as "going off the rails" so often because there are sooooo many questions answered and character arcs completed that were all being built up to from the very start. Personally I think season 4 and 5 were the absolute peak of the series for me and season 6 pulled off a solid landing while tying up every loose end in a satisfying manner, maybe not every single mystery was thoroughly explained but I don't think that was ever truly the goal
Twin Peaks was a serialized show on broadcast TV a decade before Lost. You could not just watch a random episode of Twin Peaks and understand what was going on. 24 also premiered on FOX in 2001, three years before Lost. Kiefer himself has said that 24 made him view TV differently; prior to 24, he considered TV a demotion, but 24 changed his mind.
I was obsessed with 24. I can still go back and watch seasons today. I actually watched this video and Googled when 24 first aired because that show changed my expectations of TV shows.
@@honeydenison83 Oh, man. I’m right there with you. 24 was a TV show like nothing else. My favorite show. Season 5 I just binged through over a weekend. I almost get emotional over how good that was. Kiefer was amazing and Jack is my favorite fictional character. Not sure if you’re familiar with Spider-Man, but that’s what Jack was: he did what was right, but always still only got shit for it, and lost the girl at the end.
Twin Peaks was serialized television but so were many other shows, even kids cartoons. But Lost was really the first broadcast TV show that really created the "event" show. Twin Peaks and 24 are good shows in their own right but David Lynch has defined his entire career by being niche and confusing people and 24 wasn't really an ensemble show. I mean, Alias launched the same year as 24 and that was a heavily serialized show too but nothing really dented the social conscience until Lost hit.
I absolutely love Lost. I recently binge-watched it with my 16-year-old son. It has really stood the test of time. My son says it's now his favourite tv series. I tried to explain to him how Lost changed the trajectory of television. Of course Buffy had done season-long and series-long arcs years before, but even with it's stellar writing and cultural impact, it never reached the heights of Lost (in terms of viewership and its impact on tv and entertainment). Lost was truly a phenomenon. Buffy is my favourite tv series, but Lost gives it a good run for the money. Unlike some people, I feel the series finale is perfection. I never understood the hate for it. However, I like that it's divisive. You never hear someone say "Yeah, I think the finale was ok." They either love it or hate it! The end scene in 'The Constant' is in my top 3 television scenes of all time. It's the most beautiful, emotion, gripping, gorgeously written and acted piece of art. Lol, every once in a while I'll look it up on RUclips and watch it again. Anyhow, would love to see you cover The Constant!
Watching lost for the first time was magical. I was able to binge the first few episodes at my grandmas house on netflix. When I left, I was dying to know what happens next, and I was especially intrigued when I found out it had 6 seasons. What an incredible show. Certainly ahead of its time.
The score is excellent. It is one of my favorite groups of music compositions from either television or film. I think of it as "Hitchcock Goes On An Island Vacation" It does this amazing job of being both an enhancer to the scene's intent, but also becoming a character in the scene. The scoring done in the final scene of the pilot is perfectly done. The score slowly starts to build one instrument at a time while the camera circles around the characters faster and faster. Just oozes terror and fear. A great way to begin a show.
The Lost "theme", the simple, solemn piano track that plays in so many of its episodes is truly a genius piece of music that i will never forget. Even people that didn't end up liking the show still have that tune caught in their head.
Aw man. I remember when I watched the pilot episode, it was something... *new*, it just grabs you and throws you right in the middle of the action, and for moments your state of mind if alike the survivers, "what the he'll is going on?? Where are we?? Who are all these people???" Now, looking back, I'd never expect Lost to become such an influence for future shows.
Oh my god I am SO happy you made a Lost video! I love all of your content and Lost is my favorite story (not just TV show) I have ever experienced. I would be ecstatic if you kept making the occasional Lost video!
I remember my older brother being obsessed with Lost back in the day. I never watched it myself, but every time it pops up somewhere I think about watching it.
Lost will always be the best show ever made to me. It’s true that the writers probably winged it a bit in the latter half, but not completely. They still called back to a lot of things seen earlier in the show like Locke with the backgammon. And the mythology and sci-fi elements from seasons 4-6 were still well-written, it was out there but that’s not always a bad thing, and I think Lost did it perfectly. It still remained a character-driven show with deeply philosophical and moral themes and still kept being endlessly interesting and entertaining. Would love to see you do an episode on The Constant! I think that episode is a perfect example of Lost blending character-driven story and sci-fi mystery while still making it perfect
I never got around to watching the entirety of Lost, missed a few episodes here and there, and got otherwise occupied at the time. I do want to return to the show at some point. I think I still have the opportunity to actually see it “for the first time”. Maybe I am lucky that way.
I genuinely think if Lost came out now it would be considered a top 5 show of all time. In the era of streaming and binge watching shows people wouldn't be waiting 15-20 weeks for some call back details or mysteries to be solved. In the era of shorter seasons we wouldn't have as many filler episodes (Nikki & Paulo anyone). Damon Lindelof wanted the show to end after 3 seasons which is far more common now. Instead the studio forced them to run it into the ground. Also in the early seasons I used to go on LOST forums to discuss what the numbers meant and who the Others were - imagine how huge the LOST subreddit, LOST youtube channels etc would be now talking about theories like this.
I was on holiday last week, started watching Lost in the hotel room on the same day this video was released. I don't regret missing a day out of my holiday to watch Lost.
If not knowing who was in the other outrigger is the greatest disservice the show offered, I think that's pretty amazing considering how many balls they had up in the air.
I love lost. The Pilot was great. It was so dramatic and after the Pilot it made you want to see more, trying to figure out what is going on. Then things go absolutely crazy that eventually you have to find out what the heck is this place. To be honest I'm not really sure what the ending really was. I suspect but it's only my opinion.
Awesome to see you covering lost. You have the best coverage on TWD by a Longshot, you seem to be one of the only essay youtubers who actually understands TWD and doesn't just chalk it up as "it sucks in the later seasons", and I feel like it's almost the same case with lost. I absolutely love both lost and twd start to finish and I hope to see you do plenty more coverage on both of em
I remember I was flipping through Netflix with my aunt once and lost poped up and she said I would really like the show. So i tried it out and i remember watching the first 3 episode's in one sitting i was hooked.
By the midpoint of Season 2 I realized the tempo the directors were setting was too chaotic. They didn't pick up what they dropped. Seems to be a theme with Lindelof. I _really_ love one late-season episode where Vault Guy, I forget his name, actually *experiences flashforwards* and through _love_ manages to navigate the madness. EDIT: Desmond! That's his name. He actually clawed his way out of hell through the power of SciFi and Love, and didn't end up in Purgatory!
They originally only planned for 3 seasons. Studio wanted 10. They managed to get it down to 6. This is why the last seasons get a bit wild. I still love it ❤
12:35 rewatched it with my gf, her first time. Currently stopped at the end of season 5. May just show her the “sunken island” clip from beginning of 6 and just tell her it gets weird and more complicated. To me, a good ending would have been that scene, but then little scenes or implications that characters would still remember parts of their improved self, like Jack on the plane going “your name is Rose, right, and your husband is Bernard” Rose: “why yes, how did you know that?” Jack: “just a feeling. Maybe I knew you in another life or something”. End. The whole alternative universe flash sideways was a bit much, and only should have been “what happened if they didn’t crash in the real timeline”; which could show Jin and Sun escaping her father, Claire meeting Charlie (he could help her with pregnancy issues or pains in the plane and they get together), Desmond would never have got stuck on the island, etc.
Great job Thrift. I was in my early 20s when my girlfriend and I ventured into Lost back in 04 and we were hooked from the Movie size pilot episode. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the show as a full series, the first season in particular changed TV forever. Well done sir.
I actually did a research project on the show, its impact on culture, and what it did well. Couldn't agree more! The Constant is one of the best executed episodes of television to date, would love to see a video on it! Curious on how this channel liked the finale (I loved it)
When you dropped this video, I had to quit about 4 minutes in. Why? Because you had managed to convince me to start watching, and the spoilers were rapidly approaching. Just now, about 10 minutes ago, I just saw the finale. From just a random show a guy I like on RUclips randomly talked about, to what has now amounted to my favorite thing to do after work for the past 3 months of my life. Thrifty, if you see this comment buried in the more recent notifications, you are a real one. It's easy to just look at a lower viewcount on a video and think maybe it was the wrong move but I assure you, talking about things you are truly passionate about can have a massive impact on people even if the numbers have a hard time showing it. I had subbed a long time ago just because of your walking dead vids but by now I'd consider myself a fan of the channel as a whole. For the actors involved this feels like a random show from like, 20 years ago. For me, it's the past 3 months and a fresh experience in a time where modern writing just doesn't really have that same feeling. Media is timeless, and so are the youtube videos discussing them. Somebody else is gonna stumble upon this video and possibly go binge the whole show too, just like I have, and for that reason it made me feel like commenting to let you know you've already achieved goat status in a lot of our minds. Good luck on 200k and beyond brother, I'll be tuned in all the way, even if I'm not yapping about it in the future like this! 🔥
I don’t look at comments too much anymore but I’m glad this was one of the most recent ones 😁 so cool to hear how I turned someone on to the show and I’m so glad you liked it! I appreciate the support and kind words more than you know!
I'm really attached to this show, as I watched it with my mum and sister when it came out on TV, i rewatched it again a few years ago, and still think it's the best show ever made. Will watch it again in a few years :)
Lost was really a masterclass exhibit of "show don't tell," leaving questions unanswered, and giving the viewer exactly enough information, which all three points are something that many modern shows fails *so* hard at, as they tend to overexplain, infodump, and just vomit exposition like it was an episode of DBZ. Lost also don't force current politics and views into the show, which seemingly the majority of modern TV does, and I think this contributes to the love and nostalgia many people have for this show to this day. It doesn't hold your hand or treat you like a tablet-baby, but expects you to guess along and figure things out alongside the characters or on your own.
Watched it for the first time last year and was obsessed for the first few seasons then it just felt like they were making it up as they went and I gave up knowing nothing would be answered
My parents watched LOST from start to finish while it was on the air. They were very envious of me and my siblings when they got us a Smart TV and we binged LOST in its entirety. I think LOST was the first ever TV show I watched from start to finish in my entire life. I soon started watching TWD after that, catching up to the end of Season 4 and staying with the show from 2014-ish until today. I think I have LOST to thank for how much I love TWD 😂
I saw this series with 5 seasons at my local video rental space and just decided to rent it one day because I was bored. That series was Lost, I was instantly hooked and proceeded to have the longest binge. Finished the entire series in two week ends. Started on a Friday and ended that next Sunday 5seasons done. That was a mistake I only ever replicated with One piece. Saying I was sleep deprived is an understatement. I only got about ~3hours sleep for that week..
In my opinion, this is one of those shows that are much better when you binge watch them. I understood and enjoyed this show more the second time I watched it. The first time being when it originally aired.
Lost is my favorite show ever, seen it more than 6 times through. I got so excited to see Terry O'Quinn in the ones who live. He gets to play the big bad guy of the two best series ever
If you binge watch Lost, all the seasons are great. It was meant to be binged before binging was a thing. Of course the first 3 seasons are the greatest television of all time, but it stays high quality until the very end. Best show ever made and I will die on that hill. ❤
“Makes all these situations feel entirely grounded even though some of the stuff happening is not so ground” ….. well except for the plane……. Missed opportunity for that joke my guy!
The GREATEST EPISODE OF TELEVISION. Not even close. Not even joking. It also kicks off one of the greatest seasons of television. List’s first two seasons are fantastic. God! The Pilot of Lost is just breathtaking and memorable.
Great video! My opinion, I loved the show but the first two seasons will always be the best. This was one of my favorite shows which I rewatched again and again because of the DVD boxes. The pilot episode is probably one of the best episodes in TV history.
LOST is still one of my favorite shows ever made! Even how the show went crazy towards the end, i still love. LOST was a show that was simply too good to have staisfied people by the end. Either you stick to the starting mystery and drag it on. Or you add more and escalate it. Either way, people would dislike what came unless it was a single season show. With each season, people expected more. And the show had to deliver on that.
I was a huge Lost fan, its still one of my favorites and a landmark show in TV history.. However, props need to be given to its predecessors, like the Sopranos and, most importantly, Twin Peaks, which kind of pioneered the modern format of television shows, ie: an overarching narrative.
4 is definitely my favorite. I wish the writer's strike hadn't reduced the episode count. 6 would probably be my second favorite, though. 5 and 6 had tons of lore and 5 had my favorite finale, but I love Ab Aeterno and Across the Sea more than almost any episode. It's such a great show.
Thank You for doing this. i hope it leads to your viewers giving LOST a chance if they have not yet. im all too aware of the "well (....words here.....) sucked, so dont watch it!" crowd. i felt that way about Dexter and finally watched the enter series for the first time last month.
Diversity for the sake of diversity is never a good thing, normally it ruins an otherwise good show (the Witcher is a great example), but lost did it very well. There was a good reason for the diversity and it wasn’t forced, they just made a good story without caring about peoples race or gender ect. These days showmakers all care about that stuff to the detriment of the story, normal people don’t want your racial or gender politics forced down our throats.
Could not agree more! Lost has been my favorite for a long time. For awhile Game of Thrones was my favorite, but the ending of GoT is worse in my opinion than the ending of Lost. For all of the issues people have with it, the writers were more consistent with character growth and story continuity in Lost than in GoT.
I AM SOOOO HAPPY YOU ARE COVERING MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME. I CAN’T WAIT TO DIVE IN THIS AND HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS!!! Also, I really hope you cover Attack on Titan. I would love to hear your perspective 🥺
Me and my brother watched this at some point. Feels like a fever dream. But honestly I can't remember squat about it. We never finished it. Vividly remember Charlie and some girl and peanut butter and that's about it. Also some later season of the tail of the plane ridiculously landing.
I hate going to the movie theater & being crowded together. It's much nicer streaming new movies at home quickly after release. It's great for people like me.
Such a great show... while it lasted. I got through a few seasons, maybe season 4, can't quite remember but it just kept getting more and more far fetched and strange. Loved the mysteries of the show, hated the answers.
Another "wish I could see it for the 1st time again" episode of tv
Totally agree!! I remember the night it came out. It was such an amazing episode. It really felt like we were watching something special.
Never seen it, is it worth a watch?
@TheXTutorialsx Definitely. Gets a little crazy in the last couple seasons, but all in all, it's a fantastic show with great acting and storylines.
aye! Pilot ranks there on level with House's Head/Wilson's Heart for me
Just watched the first part of the pilot

EDIT: Desmond! That's his name. He actually clawed his way out of hell through the power of SciFi and Love, and didn't end up in Purgatory!
Another banger video man. John Locke was always my favourite, so Terry O’Quinn in TWD is surreal
To me, a good ending would have been that scene, but then little scenes or implications that characters would still remember parts of their improved self, like Jack on the plane going “your name is Rose, right, and your husband is Bernard”
Rose: “why yes, how did you know that?”
Jack: “just a feeling.
I need more video essays of Lost please
I would love more videos on lost! Please!!! 🙏
I would also like to see more videos on lost 🙏
I would really love to see more from you about LOST!!
Here’s a video I never expected and didn’t know how much I needed it! I used to LOVE Lost!!
I've never been as invested in a TV show like lost. Just awesome. The feeling with the season 3 cliffhanger will never be beaten. We have to go back!
This show was so freakin good! Thanks for covering this. Hope to see more videos on Lost.
Watched it for the first time last year and was obsessed for the first few seasons then it just felt like they were making it up as they went and I gave up knowing nothing would be answered
Finally lost getting some love
I love Lost. I loved all the characters especially Jack and Sawyer. The score for Lost is magnificent. Beautiful piece of art.
I agree I binged it during covid and it was rlly good
I just watched lost two years ago ish and it’s a top 5 show all time for me
Please do more!
Dude pleaseeeee do more episodes on LOST I loved this program growing up, watched it with my mum every week 🙂
I will watch and listen to Lost videos 24/7 if I could
It's my favorite story I've ever experienced!
Lost is my favorite show ever, seen it more than 6 times through. I got so excited to see Terry O'Quinn in the ones who live. He gets to play the big bad guy of the two best series ever
Yes please! I would love to see a video of "The Constant"
It’s not woke for being diverse it’s woke for forcing diversity for diversity sakes. Not for the sake of the story or anything
Great video!
If you binge watch Lost, all the seasons are great. It was meant to be binged before binging was a thing. Of course the first 3 seasons are the greatest television of all time, but it stays high quality until the very end. Best show ever made and I will die on that hill. ❤
Awesome vid. More Lost content please Thrifty
This video made me so happy 💛
I love lost its one of my favourite tv shows I binged it during covid with my parents, please make more lost videos!!
I looooove lost, easily one of my favorite shows ever, but my one complaint is that instead of a mechanical monster or just a monster…it was smoke
After the constant we need a video about the GOAT episode, walkabout. I tell everyone to watch until that episode to decide if they like it or not
LOST is still one of my favorite shows ever made! And the show had to deliver on that.
i watched lost with my wife early this year n we both loved it! both our parents/ family didn't.
11:58 love what you did there
I love lost so much I first watched it in 2019 and I’ve seen it 7 times since 😂😢
Just recently started watching this for the first time, cant believe i never heard of this show before.
I was a huge Lost fan, its still one of my favorites and a landmark show in TV history.. However, props need to be given to its predecessors, like the Sopranos and, most importantly, Twin Peaks, which kind of pioneered the modern format of television shows, ie: an overarching narrative.
The machines aren't Dwemer, the machines were built by the Dwemer before they disappeared
I actually loved all seasons of lost season 4 was my favorite with season 5 close behind it
4 is definitely my favorite. I wish the writer's strike hadn't reduced the episode count. 6 would probably be my second favorite, though. 5 and 6 had tons of lore and 5 had my favorite finale, but I love Ab Aeterno and Across the Sea more than almost any episode. It's such a great show.
Finished the series yesterday. Good show
Still till this day, my favorite show of all time!
You gotta do some more lost ish man this is good shit 🔥
More Lost videos please because there simply isn’t enough Lost content on youtube
I've watched Lost 3 times it's one of my favorite shows of all time.
I enjoyed this analysis greatly! And would love to see your thoughts on what you think the best episode of lost is!
Mannnnn Lost and the Walking Dead (with Band of Brothers) are my favorite shows. I could rewatch and rewatch and rewatch
Lost and TWD are my 2 favorite shows, I think Lost is amazing all throughout.
I watched this show for the first time a few years ago and it’s amazing but I hate how dirty they did my man Locke
God I love Lost. Especially season 1. Perfect television 💙💙
Me and my brother watched this at some point. Feels like a fever dream. But honestly I can't remember squat about it. We never finished it. Vividly remember Charlie and some girl and peanut butter and that's about it.
Also some later season of the tail of the plane ridiculously landing.
I rewatch first 3 seasons of Lost every year, my friends think I’m weird🤣
Still my fav show of all time 😎
I actually find the average movie being subpar comapred to most shows that have more time to tell a story
I hate going to the movie theater & being crowded together. It's much nicer streaming new movies at home quickly after release. It's great for people like me.
Lost is still the best TV show I've ever seen. Maybe it will be dethroned one day, but it's been 14 years and nothing has topped it for me, yet.
Such a great show... while it lasted. I got through a few seasons, maybe season 4, can't quite remember but it just kept getting more and more far fetched and strange. Loved the mysteries of the show, hated the answers.
