I unironically love Grave Encounters. It's one of my favorite found footage films, even with the kinda meh and cliché special effects. The premisse is great and the horror of them seemingly being locked in a time and space bubble with exits just disappearing or hallways looping was pretty effective to me. Loved the way you presented this! xD
Right? A friend and I watched it because we love cheesy movies that mock 'real' shows, and ended up LOVING it. I love the special effects, as ridiculous as they are - it sort of falls into the "oh, they just added them in for the show" at first, knowing what we do about Grave Encounters (the fictional show in the movie). It FELLS like a plant. Until it's not. The second one, not so much, but the first was really fun.

The first one is genuinely a decent horror movie that throws a couple jabs at Ghost Adventures. The second one on the other hand is something we don’t mention.
Hey Thrifty, I have a found footage movie if you want it. It's free, but you have to come collect the vhs from me myself as I don't trust the federal postal service. I am approximately a quarter mile straight underground. The movie is about a man who goes to collect a vhs in a cave, only to be stalked and hunted by some psycho killer monster. Let me know if you're interested!
Bro I can’t believe you’re covering this! This is one of the most nostalgic movies of my life and it never gets talked about! This is a very good bad movie with a lot to love. For a 14 to 18 year old this movie is plenty terrifying! A lot of the people who don’t appreciate it may have been too old to do so. Hell even the crappy sequel has that same chill factor.
I watched this movie for the first time when I was 14 with my older brother and his friends and it was and remains one of the only scary movies to genuinely scare me. Side tangent, about 6 years ago I was working at a diner that was open 24 hours and around 1am a black suv pulled up and a group of 5 guys came out of it. I sat them and got them some water and coffees but the whole time I was there with them I kept feeling as if I had seen them before. When the waitress went to serve them she came back to the kitchen all giddy asking if I knew who they were, I asked if they were a band because I knew I’ve seen them before but can remember where. She then informed me that it was the guys from Ghost Adventures. I didn’t get any pictures or anything because they looked beat to hell but when I told them I was a fan of the show they seemed very grateful to hear about it. Cool guys.
The reason a lot of asylums look similar is because they were built with the Kirkbride Plan! The idea was access to fresh air and sunlight was important to recovering from mental illness so the Kirkbride style was created to maximize those for the patients.
@@millo7295 because you can't control the weather and depending on where you are in the country or out of the country, it could be too hot, too cold, snowing, raining, etc more often than not. Grave Encounters was such a surprise. I remember me and my friends watching it just because the trailer back in the day was so popular. We went into it thinking it would be dumb or boring and man we were surprised. Very intense. Loved the thrills
All youve done is make really good videos on hidden gems that ive watched and forgotten about, you always bring them back to the forefront of my mind prodding me to revisit them, we have strikingly similar taste in media. I appreciate you and the content you make. Much love fella.

A friend used to stream scary movies every halloween and it was how I saw this movie and it scared me so bad at the time. But I couldnt get it out of my head and just needed to see more. They def helped me in overcoming my fear of horror films
Fascinatingly enough. When I was younger, my friend and I started on the second one and then went to the first one (cause only the second was available on Netflix at the time until 1 came back). It made me appreciate the first one even more though cause I loved the story behind the asylum and how it had to be applied to staying at the asylum overnight. How everyone is a patient and if you encounter the Doctor you really will become crazy or dead because he will give you a lobotomy. Unless time in the asylum itself made you crazy. Nothing and nobody is safe and everything is problematic. Believe it or not these 2 were the first movies that got me into horror movies that prioritized the story/lore. Kinda like the movie “Haunter” which was my first Story horror movie I watched after Grave Encounters. Grave Encounters has a place in my heart when it comes to horror movie storytelling cause it gave me the spark that inevitably lead to the fire.
This was the first “Found Footage” movie I had ever seen and I thought the concept was crazy and added to the scares so much. For a little while I was under the impression this was the first movie to do it, but I know now it was far from the first 😂

I really liked the first movie. But to be completely honest, the part that blew me away was the early act, when they found out that the common rules in the universe, such as time and space don't work as it used to be. The rotten food, the misperception of time duration, the mismatch of the clock with what appeared from the window, and the hallway.. it was so terrifying. The ghosts on other hand are boring. I wonder if they executed the mystery like the typical Asian/Japanese horror movies. It could be even more haunting.
Actually, the characters not calling each other by their real names makes sense if, within the world of the movie, there was footage of Lance/Sean telling everyone not to break character and the producer cut that scene from the footage that we see.
I was completely fooled for a few moments that this was now somehow a show and I didn’t know it, even though I know it’s a found footage movie spoofing ghost hunting and the sequel is a spoof on the spoof… 😂 Love this movie, it is so spot on for the ghost hunting genre (no shade on the genre, I love those shows!) and I love your meta presentation!
