- The hardest part of my collection to declutter is my eyeshadow palettes, but we are biting the bullet and being honest about what I really want to keep, what I should pass on, and what is trash. The next declutter will be my blush/bronzer/highlight collection!

I think you should organize your palettes into categories: duping, sentimental, trying out and going to use. That way the palettes you like using won’t get buried within sentimental and duping items.

You do not need to justify feeling nostalgic over the Kat Von D collection. She made some stunning products that performed fantastically and many professional artists used. She put amazing detail and true artistry into her line. It is very unfortunate what happened with her reputation and how her personal choices have recently affected the popularity of her brand, but it does not mean those products were not awesome and one of a kind in their day! They were a moment, and I loved them too. I wish she could redeem herself and put out some amazing new stuff but it seems like it is not going to happen. Nothing wrong with appreciating the good work she did though girl.
Lorelai Mercy I don’t buy her stuff anymore on principle, but I have kept all the things I did have from her because she had so many good quality products.
Yes I feel this so much. As a teen I would always go to sephora and drool over her stuff especially since she had that gothic aesthetic to her makeup line that no one else did at the time. I would save up every penny to afford at least one product and that was the shade + light palette. I feel nostalgic looking at it because it reminded me of a happier time when I wasn't a depressed adult LOL. But I'm not gonna buy any more products from her because I feel she has lost her edge and spark with her new launches.

Jen, you should have a drawer or shelf for “duping purposes” and “”play with some more” date those,and if you don’t...and a place for beloved palettes so you don’t lose them. Show off your beautiful collection so you can enjoy them! 🤩 Awesome declutter.

I for sure thought you'd be going through doing a secondary declutter of the "keep" stuff in a 40+min long video hahaha, especially as I could see you keeping multiples of things and all the nostalgia and for dupe ones. I get it, but it wasn't as ruthless as I expected.
I’m glad that you kept the Kat Von D palettes that still bring you joy instead of just getting rid of them because of the pressure from public opinion. I know that you have chosen not to continue to purchase from her brand but still keeping what you already own is such a wonderful decision.

I love your decluttering videos because it’s an easy way to get a super quick review on a bunch of products!
If you know any artists that use resin, you can send them your trash pallets for colorants. I use my old make up in my art a lot.
That is awesome!
I use them in resin too! Only issue is you have to watch out for UV stability and fading. The iron oxide pigments are fine, but some artificial dyes can fade pretty quick. Best to run a test batch and sit it in the sun a couple days if it's something you need to last.

It's not just youtubers, I have a bad addiction and my collection looks similar to this, sadly. I've been getting rid of some things and I have a pile I plan to donate to project beautyshare but I just cannot stop buying!! 😳
I own 15 palettes and I feel so overwhelmed at times. I am trying to rotate my palettes each month to give all of them an opportunity, so I choose 3 palettes every month and try to stick to those 3, unless I want to do something completely different. But it has helped me a lot, I'm about to hit pan on my UD Naked Heat just by using it nonstop this month, and my Clionadh Cosmetics Archeo palette has been used more times this month than it had been since I purchased it
I feel is a good way of using one's collection without getting overwhelmed, while actually going through your products and enjoying the process

I feel like you could put the ones you want to keep for sentimental reasons in a place where you can easily see them so they can keep bringing you joy, rather that being buried in a drawer . Like in a top shelf or something 😉 plus, a lot of them have really pretty package, so why not?! 😃
I like how this declutter was personalized. Sometimes there's this pressure to throw everything away or get our stashes down to extreme minimums.
In your case keeping pallets for dupes makes sense. We all have different purposes and needs for our makeup (etc) collections.
So at the beginning I thought, "I should totally declutter." By the end, my god, I can keep it all and still have maybe a quarter of what you had left. 🤣

I keep those 'do not eat' packets in the drawers with my palettes as they absorb moisture. Great video and yes made it to the end ;)

Agreed! On the bright side, they do have 50% off sales every once in awhile.
I went and searched a highlighter but that price tag..no sus..especially with so many other highlighters that are the same shade and decent quality.
Obsessed with their bronzer but it is pricey. Luckily I found 2 in my shade at Kohl’s on clearance for $8 each! Hopefully they last me a while! 🤞🏽
Neka I’ve had that Mary Lou luminiferous, or whatever it’s called for like 20 years and do love it. I also have their Bahama-mama bronzer! I think that little gem came in my Boxycharm. Wherever it came from, I do love it!!

Good job, Jen-it was fun.I did this when the virus started but did a general declutter of all makeup. I think half of what you kept was sentimental which I loved. Save yourself some time and put those in a separate box. It will make next year’s declutter easier. I watch all your videos. You really go deep with the research and I appreciate the effort.

I keep silica packs in my shadow drawers. When you live in more humid climates it really helps😉

What I learned the most as some one who has no palettes is that I should try the Juvia’s palettes first. Those were your auto keeps for all of those palettes. :)

Their website always puts them on sale. Most of the time you can get it cheaper than at Ulta. I even use the blush palette as eyeshadow in addition to blush. They are fantastic!
But man, I remember when I started watching Beauty RUclips and how popular Kat Von D was... I wanted to buy her shit too. I also remember when Colourpop has only single eyeshadows and with those palettes I remember "Oh, yeah, Colourpop wasn't always fast fashion of make-up world!" Very very interesting declutter video!
😊 I made it! I love Kat Von D. Her life choices are for her to live with but you can’t deny her shadow palettes are great. My daughter and I enjoyed them up until the whole drama unfolded. Then it was just me. Mi vida loca pallet was one of her favorites. She doesn’t collect her palettes anymore but won’t let go of what she has for sentimental reasons.
I like this. She’s fast, efficient and entertaining- not to mention descriptive.

I remember RawBeautyKristy saying she offered her friends like a 70 gallon tub of lipsticks and they would take 1 and say “I’m good” 😂 what?! It always seems makeup lovers’ friends and fam don’t have the same appreciation for it. Every makeup obsessed person I know is in the same position. I have to give mine away to strangers as my sisters are like, meh.
I was buying too much too. I now have decluttered from 10 drawers to 1 . I don’t know why we go crazy over sales and how much product Is in it when we don’t even fully use it . I now have a few products and wait till I finish one item before replacing it . If you look at your collections they are usually the same items just in a different brand . It’s been 3 years and I have made a no buy and used up many of my make up

I decluttered along with you. Got rid of my dried out Meet Matte Hughes lippies and a very very old concealer. But I'm now very interested in the Young, Wild, and Cruelty Free palette haha, it looks SO PRETTY!

To avoid the moisture inside the palettes try putting silica gel sachets inside each drawer, that's what I have been doing and so far I think it works great!

I bought alcohol in a spray bottle to spray my pressed powder occasionally to decrease the bacteria contamination. I would spray down the ones that you are having moisture. If the moisture comes back It is probably mold or yeast.I would toss it.
It's worth researching that - I've read that it ruins the shadow, changes/diminishes the pigment. In my experience, that's been true, as well as it can seal it. Then again, I'd rather have lighter pigmented shadow than pinkeye!!

@@nomdeplume5582 I spray from a bottle to get a fine mist. and don't spray until soaking. As long as it dries quickly it shouldn't lighten unless they are using peroxide. The biggest thing is to keep the brushes clean and to use the shadows regularly to remove the surface. I also use hand sanitizer before using. I am hoping I can keep them forever.At the price we pay we should be able.

Hi Jen, you might enjoy the Lila palette more if you do the following...use a sticky base; don't set with powder; using your fingers to apply a shimmer/glitter/duo-chrome to your eyelid and blend the edges with a brush; then add your mattes to give the eye look the shape and depth that you want.
With ND shadows the more you blend, the more the colour of the shadow varies...she designs her shadows this way so try not to over blend.
Also she designs most of her shimmers etc to be their own transition colour, so you blend the edges it will alter the colour slightly and depth, and it may also turn into a matte-like finish.
This is why she's so popular. Once you know these little tricks you realise how clever she is.
Also most mature women prefer wearing mattes because of their eye creases, but ND shimmers really flatter older eyelids...another reason she's so popular.

KVD has the best palettes, it must be difficult to get rid of them, even without liking the colors.
I love declutter videos. I get to see a quick history of makeup / what's on the market, and I am relieved of any guilt I have about my own excesses. I mean I only own like 15 palettes (which is still more than I will ever use in my lifetime).... but I also dont review makeup as part of my job... Anywho, thanks for showing us your collection, Jen. I learned a lot, and it was fast and fun.

I'm glad you kept the KVD pallets you like. To me throwing them out after you'd paid for them is like telling someone you don't like them and then throwing $100 in the garbage. I don't get that mentality. And although she might be questionable is some eyes, her palettes are awesome. I love your collection. This was a great declutter. You parted with way more than I could. I'm not a youtuber but I have hundreds of palettes and I love them all. I just don't buy them now unless they are super unique. 🤣
I also have way too many pallettes and I'm always between "I need to get rid of like half of them" and "I need to keep them all and buy 1000 more" 😂 I put myself on a no buy starting next year and the new bh zodiac pallette coming out next year is already testing me 😬
Agreed. KVD had some really cool colour stories. I would never buy from her now but if i owned them i wouldnt throw them out for the sake of throwing out. In fact i have a few KVD products that i have kept because i paid for them but i wont be buying more.

I bought the whole collection (was a HUGE fan from early on and they were the best matte indie shadows out there) mine went mouldy and when I went to contact the company they no longer existed.

Watching this older video, you showed us your coastal scents shadows that you put together in a palette. Looking at your color story it is really pretty! You should dig it back out, or put together a newer single shadow palette with newer singles you have now, like makeup Greek or Sydney grace. Same colors and show us some looks!

Me too! I've been on a no/low buy and sticking only to products I know I will love and enjoy, taking time to carefully research and look up reviews, and waiting for a considerable time to ensure something is a "need" VS a "want"
