I love watching de clutters! 🥰 I just went through my own collection, and I managed to go from 34 palettes to 5. I even got rid of most of my Natasha Denona palettes ( I used to have all of the large palettes, I kept 3). Got rid of about half of everything else too. Even shocked my husband. 🤣 I’ve just finally come to the realization that I’m not a collector, I hate anything that feels like clutter, I’m not a youtuber, and honestly I’m in my 40’s and pretty basic in my eyeshadow choices. It felt so good!
I have hundreds of eyeshadow palettes and I recently did a huge declutter of them. I got rid of over 150 eyeshadow palettes so far. I sold most on Mercari and I gave about two dozen away to my family. All were barely touched and lot were brand new. I still have another 100-200 I need to sell or give away. It’s an exhausting process. But there was absolutely no need to have over 500 eyeshadow palettes when I’m not a youtuber or anything. I just really enjoy makeup.
When I’m decluttering eye palettes I will go through and depot certain colors that call to me and make a separate z palette. I’ve learned now to stop buying palettes and investing in good singles that I like and will use.
Being an artist/creative means you have no boundaries to the medium you work with... would love to see your art. Maybe an art collection tour??? I like that your blonde hair is back.
I love eyeshadow palettes and anything to do with them. I also love declutters, because among so many products, we get to see what influencers (who try out so much) really like.

You are braver than I. Eyeshadow is the thing i am a sucker for. I cant imagine going on an eyeshadow No Buy, thats what my nightmares are made of. Dont get me wrong, i dont think i go crazy or anything. I do buy new palettes very selectively. But just the thought of not being able to buy Any.... for Months... it gives me anxiety to think about. I have a box specifically for makeup I'm keeping but not using either because of memories or collecting. That way it's out of my makeup space but I still keep it because I can't stand opening up a drawer and seeing all the space taken up by makeup I'll never use again but refuse to get rid of

I like the platinum hair!! I LOVE the Tarte Trust, Lust and Fairydust, and not just for the packaging. I even bought a backup. I get complements when I wear that pallet. I know that you weren’t thrilled with it in the first place, but we all have different coloring in our skin and different tastes. I would never de clutter PatMcgrath, Natasha Denona or Viseart either. Love that Juvia’s Place violets mini pallet. That’s the only one of the mini’s I got. Haven’t tried it yet. I’ve let go of a few things recently too. I gave a few palettes to friends and if I had any samples or things friends didn’t want - I gave them to a local theater company. It’s nice to make room for new stuff sometimes.
I've stalked the Melt Gun Metal stack for years but so many reviews saying the shimmer formula is so flakey and fallout is awful keeps me from buying. I have the She's in Parties stack and the the shimmers in that are smooth and easy to work with. What are your thoughts on how difficult the Gun Metal stack is to work with? I'm not a makeup beginner so I can work with a somewhat tricky formula and I only wear cool toned shadows so the grays are right up my alley!

Lol I did a deciliter recently! It’s soooo heartbreaking because I was buying and keeping stuff from brands that I did not love. Now I know my favorite brands (finally) so I can be smarter when it comes to future purchases.

I’ve decluttered so much over the years that I can name all the brands I own. No one really appreciates hand me down makeup so I won’t be buying much color until my 50 plus palettes get discontinued. The Brands I love and have most of: Melt, ND, Pat McGrath, Menagerie, Huda, Visart, Juvias Place, Colourpop, Limecrime, Marc Jacobs, KVD, Tom Ford, ABH, Norvina and JSC.
Lynn Briggs that’s what I thought when I got it but it’s not that great unfortunately-the pigmentation just isn’t there so a lot of shades look the same and also my guess is most of them wouldn’t work on deeper skin tones. All of this made me very sad because Beijing opera is my makeup inspiration and red shadow is my favorite
I love your channel and I love you, but this has to be the the funniest declutter I’ve ever seen! I know you’re a collector, but Mel girl! I swear you kept at least 5 nearly identical palettes in just about every category! My husband was in the background saying “she’s keeping that...she’s keeping that...she’s keeping that...” even before you said it. He was especially confused about all of the matte palettes you were keeping considering Viseart pretty much has them all covered. I have 700 bottles of nail polish, so I think he was projecting. But you do you! You have great taste 😍😍😍!
I don't typically watch declutter videos but I really enjoyed this, probably because you're one of the few youtubers I know of that like cooler toned palettes. I'm adding a bunch of these to my "want but will never buy because I'm cheap and suck at make up" list lol

Hi Mel. Can you give tips on “preserving” your palettes? Or cleaning them? I know powders last a long time (despite the advisory on palettes for “18 months” for instance)
Alanna H to sanitize any pressed powder products - eyeshadow or otherwise - just spritz lightly w/ 90% alcohol (& to clean the outsides/ casing simply wipe down). Hope that helps!

Alanna H you’re welcome! And yes, ultimately either will do the trick. The advantage to 90% is that it will dry more quickly - an advantage if you’re cleaning a large collection all at once - but 70% isn’t as harsh so there’s a bit less risk of causing damage to the surface being cleaned, & yes 70 is definitely sufficient/ strong enough; it’s actually the strength used in most medical settings, ie in alcohol swabs. For certain things one or the other is definitely preferred, ie 90 is best for pressing/ repressing b/c the lower water content/ faster drying makes the risk of rust developing in the bottom much less, but for cleaning purposes anything 70 or higher will definitely work fine!

I’m wearing the Tribe palette today! All of February I’m doing as much as possible makeup exclusively from black owned companies or collabs w/black influencers. I’ve got eye primer, shadow, foundation, liner, contour, bronzer, highlighter, and one lip liner, and lipstick/gloss. Didnt manage primer, blush, or brow products.
I know this was hard for you, it is for me too. My weaknesses are definitely eyeshadow palettes and highlighters! Unfortunately I only have so much space so sometimes declutters are a necessary evil. You did good, I’m proud of you!

I’ve decluttered so much over the years that I can name all the brands I own. No one really appreciates hand me down makeup so I won’t be buying much color until my 50 plus palettes get discontinued. The Brands I love and have most of: Melt, ND, Pat McGrath, Menagerie, Huda, Visart, Juvias Place, Colourpop, Limecrime, Marc Jacobs, KVD, Tom Ford, ABH, Norvina and JSC.
Wow, that Urban Decay Cherry Pallette is GORGEOUS. That would have stayed in my drawer!
Lynn Briggs that’s what I thought when I got it but it’s not that great unfortunately-the pigmentation just isn’t there so a lot of shades look the same and also my guess is most of them wouldn’t work on deeper skin tones. All of this made me very sad because Beijing opera is my makeup inspiration and red shadow is my favorite

I love your channel and I love you, but this has to be the the funniest declutter I’ve ever seen! I know you’re a collector, but Mel girl! I swear you kept at least 5 nearly identical palettes in just about every category! My husband was in the background saying “she’s keeping that...she’s keeping that...she’s keeping that...” even before you said it. He was especially confused about all of the matte palettes you were keeping considering Viseart pretty much has them all covered.
I have 700 bottles of nail polish, so I think he was projecting. But you do you! You have great taste 😍😍😍!

I don't typically watch declutter videos but I really enjoyed this, probably because you're one of the few youtubers I know of that like cooler toned palettes. I'm adding a bunch of these to my "want but will never buy because I'm cheap and suck at make up" list lol

Hi Mel. Can you give tips on “preserving” your palettes? Or cleaning them? I know powders last a long time (despite the advisory on palettes for “18 months” for instance)
Alanna H to sanitize any pressed powder products - eyeshadow or otherwise - just spritz lightly w/ 90% alcohol (& to clean the outsides/ casing simply wipe down). Hope that helps!

Alanna H you’re welcome! And yes, ultimately either will do the trick. The advantage to 90% is that it will dry more quickly - an advantage if you’re cleaning a large collection all at once - but 70% isn’t as harsh so there’s a bit less risk of causing damage to the surface being cleaned, & yes 70 is definitely sufficient/ strong enough; it’s actually the strength used in most medical settings, ie in alcohol swabs. For certain things one or the other is definitely preferred, ie 90 is best for pressing/ repressing b/c the lower water content/ faster drying makes the risk of rust developing in the bottom much less, but for cleaning purposes anything 70 or higher will definitely work fine!

I’m wearing the Tribe palette today! All of February I’m doing as much as possible makeup exclusively from black owned companies or collabs w/black influencers. I’ve got eye primer, shadow, foundation, liner, contour, bronzer, highlighter, and one lip liner, and lipstick/gloss. Didnt manage primer, blush, or brow products.

I know this was hard for you, it is for me too. My weaknesses are definitely eyeshadow palettes and highlighters! Unfortunately I only have so much space so sometimes declutters are a necessary evil. You did good, I’m proud of you!
