If you would just barely loosen the scrrews to the points you can put the screwdriver in the adjustment slot and set the points. Then tighten the screws. I have never seen anyone have so much trouble setting the points. I love this. I really needed a laugh today.

All the bracket does is hold the coil, it does not have to be grounded. to adjust the points, you roll the engine up to where the distributer cam opens the points and use a feeler gauge to set the gap to spec.

If you all had a dwell / angle /. tachometer you could get the perfect opening of the points by cranking the engine and adjusting the points until you got it to 30 degrees dwell on the dwell / angle /. tachometer gauge.
That setting of 30 degrees of dwell works perfectly for any V-8 engine.

Chad the engine mount holes were probably small for racing most drag racers bolt them up metal to metal without a cushion but you did a nice job cutting them out for the cushions. Love the sound of a flathead V8. I restored a 1940 Ford Delux Coupe when I was 16. The motor was too far gone so I scored a Merc AB block. Swapped the rear end for a 69 Cougar. Was really cool. Wish I would have stopped there. I ended up swapping in an all new 1970 z28 motor and put a 4duce Offy manifold on it. Was a bit too much power for that car. Great times though!

My advice is that once you get that other shop open next door you can do you mechanical work in that shop only. So you won't contaminate the Auto Body Shop especially the Paint Booth with oil and its residues which causes fish eyes and such in your paint jobs. The dryer that Auto Body Shop is the better it is for future work, good Auto Body Shops try never to mix Mechanical Work with Auto Body in the same Area. Just makes things better in the long run and saves a lot of grief when it's all said and done. That was hilarious Nate, lol the gap is .014 to .016 lots of folks like to split it down the middle. .015 of an inch.

Hey guys give them a break! We've all done something like this but thankfully nobody was videoing! This is why you check spark at the coil wire not a plug wire. They are not understanding what the wire does that comes from the points, it creates a ground to the coil everytime the points close. they were looking for ground while the points were open. Points are fairly simple, when I started wrenching in 1969 that is all there was. I probably installed 2000 sets.
