Stole this exhaust from a famous Bonneville race car... Vic Edelbrock 👏

  • We ordered some flexible exhaust tubing from our local NAPA store to see if we can replicate Vic Edelbrock's famous Bonneville salt flat race car. As soon as Bad Chad saw this car at Galpin Ford's custom car museum in California he knew he had to steal the idea. Is it 100% practical? Probably not. But, it's 100% cooler than dangit. We just need to make it work 👏

No offense, just get exhaust manifolds to fit it so you only have to worry about two exhaust pipes instead of six, it would probably solve the driver side issues.

I feel really strongly about this, I think you would do a fine job for instance the exhaust system currently being worked on you could hold all pipes together and fasten them to the body. With a very clean look.!’so contact fast cut CNC tables. I’m sure they would help you get started.

I like the long header idea just like chad made. If the flexible pipe dosen't work solid exhaust pipe will I wouldn't go without a one off custom exhaust like he came up with. Definitely wrap the pipes as much as possible with some of the piping exposed to give away what the exhaust is. Just grill fuel tank and wireing and that rockets ready for take off. Can't wait to see an inside veiw of the car driving.

Gates makes a hose clamp with convex washers back to back and put constant pre-load on the pipes. Plus they’re stainless steel and used on semi’s quite a bit for turbo hoses. They’re not cheap but they would be worth paying the money because they have constant pressure even if things settle in a little bit

In my experience (decades ago) that flexhaust mostly just unraveled, seams opened up, wherever it could vibrate or flex between supports. There once was a flexible exhaust with stuff like asbestos in the spirals ( I dunno if it was asbestos BTW but,,,once it got heated several times it got ridgid and wasn't bad for use as exhaust and tail pipes.

Its obvious you have never used flex exhaust, they get Red hot and bunching them together makes it worse. I'm sorry but that looks so amateur, and the time you used on the Hot mess you could have built real headers , a 3 in one pipe system. Please don't let everyone's negative comments bother you, I myself have used flexible exhaust pipe for several years when I was first starting out driving because of the affordability of the pipe. I always had very good luck with it for daily drivers and it last for a long time , and did not leak at all until it started wearing through. From my experience the clamp placement is very important because if the clamp isn't completely over top of the solid pipe underneath you can actually cut through the flex pipe when tightening.

About 75 years ago I saw a '32 Ford High Boy modification made by Roof Engineering. One of the mods that I notices, was the four exhaust pipes. They were made with the middle exhaust ports each feeding two pipes. The inside and outside exhaut ports were formed into single header and each fed the remaining two pipes. I don't remember what kind of muffers it had, but it was quiet.
