Here’s an idea for a future KAL: let’s find projects for those random skeins we have and don’t know what to do with, and use them up!
That’s a great idea!!!
So proud of Kent’s thoughtfulness & encouragement for your stash acquisitions.
Right?! He's the best!
I got into knitting and crochet only this year, but my collection probably has around 150 skeins. I justify it because I bought the bulk of them when places were having like 70% off sales in the early pandemic panic. Stuff I paid $3 for is now back being sold at $10, so I definitely timed my purchases well. I also didn't realize how much yarn it took to do large projects (especially for crochet!) and probably about half of my yarn purchases are made with specific projects already in mind
This is so fun to watch, knowing where you are with your stash journey about 2 years later.. 😁
I would say I have a medium to large size stash! I’ve been avidly knitting for 17 years and have changed so much regarding the yarn I buy and what I like to use now. Bright colors are what predominantly make up my stash. Thanks for sharing yours!!
That's awesome! Thank you!
My friend gave me a tip as she is a knitter who has far too much yarn and projects. She has a notebook and writes all her wool in it and puts the pattern she wants to make using that yarn. She loves the fact that she can see what she wants to do next . She has used up 24 balls of yarn so far and not bought any more she says she wants to get down to only having yarn on her shelves and have some space on the shelves before she buys more.
Loved seeing your stash! So fun. That blue mercerized cotton would make a great reusable produce/market bag, knit or crochet.
Thank you!! Yes good idea!
Big sky has beautiful yarn.
I love the plum great.Beautiful yarn.
So cool to hear you mention my adopted hometown -- Summerville SC. The Village Knittery was my LYS. Sadly, it closed. We miss it so much! The dyer behind Lydia yarns was in my knitting guild too! And the reason behind the tea-dyed yarn is that Summerville claims to be the birthplace of sweet tea. Not sure if that's true or not.
I guessed 78 skeins! So close!
I loved the dump of scrap yarn, haha!
My stash is a little bigger than yours. I have a bunch of acrylic from before I knew about really good yarn, but for some reason I can't get rid of it. So I have 3 big plastic bins of stuff I don't really want to use and probably 20+ skeins of good sock yarn.
Same here! I have found that when i donate the yarn or make hats for the homeless I have an easier time getting rid of it or using it up :)
I have the same problem. I gave a lot away to my mom, but she doesn't seem to use it either. It just kinda bothers me that I have so much cotton and acrilic because I really want to have a small stash..
Yes I totally understand that and it seems like some others feel the same way about their first skeins! I was able to give mine to kids at the school where I teach. It took a few years to let go of all of it though!
That's so sweet of your husband! Makes those skeins super special. It was fun to see your stash!
He’s pretty awesome. ☺️ Thank you!
Sorry for all the comments but you asked for it 🤪 my stash is quite large. I have 105 listed in Ravelry but that was just my lighter weights/partial skeins I listed back in March. That doesn’t include my commercial skeins or my heavier weight skeins so I’d guess my stash is close to 200 skeins/partial skeins not including the yarn currently being used for projects. Okay so maybe closer to 220. 😅
I did ask for it! Haha I love to hear about everyone's experiences. That awesome you have some of it listed. I think that sounds like a healthy stash!
Regarding blue yarn at 11:35, to find the yardage: wind it around something measurable (radiator/chair base/etc) and then count the amount of circuits you have. xx
My friend went to Minnesota and went to a yarn shop. She brought back a skein of yarn for me fro Three Irish girls. It’s very pretty yarn
Nice! Yes so pretty!
Really great to see😍
I think you have about 70 skeins of beautiful yarn!❤️
💕💕💕
I would need a 5 hour video to show all my stash! 😂 There are just so many yarn shops and indie dyers I want to support!
LOL!!! People would watch!
Same here. I live in a rural/remote area of UP Michigan. A trip to a yarn store is usually a two hour++ trip. Having yarn on hand is important to me. (Trips to yarn stores are very seasonal, no winter travel). I have a room filled with yarn. (This winter we had 325" snow. Snow falls literally for day after day). Envy people who have a neighborhood yarn store.
I guessed 57 skeins. I was so wrong! You really surprised me when you dumped out your scrap balls on the floor. That goes against NEAT Natalie. I loved it though!
Haha you weren’t far off! You know I cleaned it up right away! 😜
I recently purchased Plutolopi. It as not as hard to work with as I thought. I am making a simple triangular shawl, pairing it with some stash mohair as Plutolopi is kind of course. You can certainly hold it double with that yarn that coordinates! I don't think I would wear this yarn close to skin, but I bet it is super warm!
I so enjoyed the memories of your stash! Not boring at all. All the best going back to work!
Awesome! Yes, I agree. A little too rough to be next to skin for me. Thank you so much!
Oh goodness, that was such a fun video! Loved seeing all of your stash!
I couldn’t decide between 47, 63, or 87 skeins 🙈🤣
I definitely have less than you in my stash, but happy with what I have!
Lol!! Yay!! That’s what’s important!
I have the total opposite of your stash! And I've only been a "K" Knitter for 3 years! Let's just say it's over 6 times what you have! 😲😳🤭 (But it doesn't overwhelm me)
That’s okay!! You should have what makes you happy!
I have maybe about the same amount of yarn as you do. I would never say that orange is my favorite color but it appears in my knitting A LOT! I definitely buy more jewel/fall colors than anything else.
Too funny! I love that. ☺️
You could totally use those two purple skeins for a cowl? They would look so lovely paired together 🥰
Yes for sure!
new to your channel and I’m loving it. Your voice is very soothing to listen to when I’m working on a project.
As a (broke) university student I only have like 10 skeins/cakes at a time and only buy more once I use them up, but it’s really like seeing your stash and kinda imagine what mine would look like in the future 🤪
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. Honestly I’d love to get to that size stash!
I'm knitting a Nordic wind shawl with plutolopi. It's a very simple utilitarian shawl
Okay awesome! Thank you!!
My stash is a little more than yours...my sad struggle is using up the leftover yarns. Half a skein here and there clutters up my yarn shelves after I’ve completed a project. Ahhh. Anyway, loved the video - thanks so much for sharing!!
Yes!! That’s why mine get thrown in the scrappy box. Then they look decorative 😂😂
I love my cotton socks-for your Greece yarn
Good idea!
Most of my yarn is what I picked up at yard sales and what people gave me. So what I do is look on RUclips, Pinterest, or onliine for patterns. Most patterns give you the oz. weight you need. Bought a scale that I can weigh my yarn by oz. Then I know if I have enough yarn to complete the pattern. Or sometimes I do the reverse. I weigh my yarn and look for a pattern that I can use it for. There is always using up the scraps by making granny squares. You can make a lot of things out of granny squares. I am also interested in learning how to do amigaromi stuffed animals so that is a possibility for my scraps.
Those are all great ideas!!
Loved watching your stash. It is inspiring. I have a huge stash that is starting to overwhelm e but when i think okay destash with every skein i think oh but it is special... so now im just knitting it all up. Made projects for most of it except some sockyarn. The rest will be sweaters, hats and stuff for gifts. So most of the stash knows what it will grow up to be 😂
That's so awesome!!! It must be a great feeling!
I have also purchased skeins of yarn that are beautiful but I don’t know what to do with them. I am not especially fond of how variegated yarn looks in a garment. I have had success with striping a variegated yarn with a solid. There are some cardigans that I like-My sweet candy and Funky grandpa-that maybe you could stripe the Miss Babs purplish one with gray?? Just a thought 🌻
That’s a really good idea!! I may have to try that!
You could knit a shawl with the multi-colored yarn.
Yes for sure!
So fun! Can't wait to see what you decide to make out of some of those skeins!!!! I have a small stash, I would say similar in size to yours. I am really trying to use up what I have so that I can purchase as I want to make things except for having some worsted for hats and fingering for socks on hand most of the time.
Thank you! Yes that exactly where I’d like to be too!
Lydia died yarn for the Eclipse for the yarn shop in Paducah Kentucky
I have over 1000 skeins of yarn - but I also have an Etsy shop so i'm gonna use that as my excuse, I mean, reason. I have decided not to purchase any more yarn unless I am running short for an order. Otherwise, I want to use up my stash by designing and making new things.
I have a lot yarn I been making a lot of itams for Christmas gifts for my family and friends. I own a little business so I am using all the yarn I have. I do My own way to make things I don't fellow pattern to making them
Omg i spent high school in Summerville, SC. If only i loved yarn then.
No way!!!
Use those rustic neutral wools and those couple minis for a color work hat or mittens!🤗
Good idea!
Omg i am impressed. I want to get my stash to under 100 skeins as well
That’s a great number goal!!
Yay!!! So excited for this video
Yay!!!!
Guessing 68. BTW......Three Irish Girls (LOVE their yarn) is from Superior, Wisconsin. A BEAUTIFUL place to visit. Gift yarn is THE BEST‼️
Ohhh okay! Not sure why I thought Texas! 😂
Recently my stash has gotten bigger because I have bought sweater quantities to knit for others and I got sent the wrong yarn which the company allowed me to keep. I could probably not buy for a year and still have plenty to knit with
Hy Natalie. Thanks for the video. You have some beautiful yarns. I have some stash but not enormous amount as other people have. I love to get special yarn while traveling. I for example have loads of Alpaca from Peru. As I can't travel this year I work up some of it.
I also got some Plotülopi as a gift and not sure what to make. But I can get more here so I consider a sweater. One of the damous things about Lopi yarn is that it is supposed to be water resistent. So a hat would make sense or some mittens. Not sure if you would need them in Texas? Have a great week
Thank you! It’s so fun collect special yarns when you travel. That’s really neat that Lopi is water-resistant! I definitely wear hats in the winter, so that could work!
For the the iris color yarn, a timely cardigan paired with the gray could be fun, but still break up the colors!
That’s a great idea!
Hiw bout slippers with the royal blue from Greece? You could add other colors.
I’m guessing you have 100 skeins of yarn, that Icelandic yarn would make an awesome hat and gloves, although since you live in Texas that would be silly, so a nice scarf maybe, loved seeing all your yarns, have a great week and happy knitting.
Good guess!
Hi any suggestions for a classic, but not super bulky scarf pattern. I am living in SC therefore a bit less cold. Thanks
Judy of the autumn acorn is coming out with a few sweaters starting September 1st that might catch your eye. Btw love, love your afterthought heel sock tutorials, you are a great teacher!!
Okay yay!! Aww thank you very much!
@@KnittyNatty 😘
Hi - I'm guessing 75 skeins of yarn. Love your yarn room - looks very nice. Take care, Kris K from CT
Excellent guess!
I work at Cozy! Thanks for the shout out :)
Aww how cool! Hello!!! I miss visiting Eugene. My brother-in-law went to U of O, but has graduated. Go Ducks!
@@KnittyNatty My Cozy job is very part time, I am actually a preschool teacher at UofO :). I am a NYer originally, but have lived here and in Portland for about 18 years now. Its a great place.
Plotolopi maybe could be used for slippers?
That’s a good idea!
Could you do JoJi's new tank (the black linen one...I think it's like "staple linen tank"?) In the blue Greek cotton?
Just looked at it and that might be PERFECT! Thank you!
@@KnittyNatty Definitely on my make list for next summer!
Arcoiris = rainbow in spanish 🤗🤗🤗 beautiful yarns
With the blue you can make a hat
I guess you have more then 55, but less then 75 skeins.
I have a larger stash, but are trying to work trough it to only have a couple of skeins on hand in the future.
Sadly I have a lot of acrilic and cotton yarn left from when I started crochet and knitting. I really don't like using it at all, but don't know what to do with it either. I'm guessing my stash is twice as big as yours.
Good guess!! It’s tough when you feel stuck with yarn you don’t loved, but also don’t want to waste. Maybe you can donate it?
For your Greek cotton: make a cropped tank or bralette!
That's a good idea!
PS: releasing a lace weight crochet shawl in a few weeks 😉 that pink dragon color would be perfect!
Ooohh crochet???
@@KnittyNatty ooh yes crochet
I'll dm you a picture 😉
Can you do a video about what every thing is from I guess 59
I like to be super precisely with my stash on Ravelry. Got not much (or enough) shelfs where I can show my stash. Therefore most of it "hides" in pouches or bags. So I need Ravelry to be my brain. If I know what to make with yarn abc I write it down in the notes section while I add it to my Ravelry Collection. When I come back to start a new project (and not quite sure what my plan was for yarn abc) I browse through the stash section on Ravelry first to look for those notes.
That is so smart! You are super organized!!
@@KnittyNatty Thank you!
I have that same Plötulopi and I have been struggling to figure out what to make with it also
There have been some great ideas in the comments here!
Purple lopi and purple mohair - sweater if enough yarn
That’s a good idea!
My guess before watching: 82 lol. I’m pulling all mine out to count what I have while watching! ;)
So fun!! What did you end up with?
Love this yarn tour. A non-related question. What tool are you using to clean up Toaster’s fur?
Thank you! It’s a Furwell. Works great!
If I have all that yarn I would make hand bags or socks
It’s pronounced SA-GEEN 😀 Loved the video!
Lol! I will never forget!!!!
Your magic knot ball might be a good giveaway prize if you don’t think you’ll use it! 🙃
That's a great idea!
I vote 57 skeins 😊
I’m guessing 40 or 50, will be cool to do KAL CAL of yarn cozy and the crochet cozy when it come outs too. Been knitting a lot of sweaters and shawls, need a excuse to knit yarn cozy’s lol😂
That's such a fun idea! I love that!
Just in case you were wondering:
Arco iris means rainbow in Spanish and Algeria means happiness in Spanish. Oh and Seguin is pronounced like seg-een.
So cool!! Ohh yeah Seguin! I have heard that before!
@@KnittyNatty ooh just noticed I put Algeria instead of Alegria. Lol I've been to a little yarn shop in Seguin, it was a cute spot.
Suh GEEN (Suh like Duh and GEEN like Green)
Lol! I knew you and Rebecca would know!
