My mom was a nurse for 17 yrs. She worked nights the entire time. There was a time that she gave a patient the literal shoes off of her feet. My mom walked to her car after her shift, in her socks and there was snow on the ground. The hospital did a whole article on her in their newsletter and I had never been more proud of my sweet momma 🩶 Unfortunately she passed away in 2016 and I miss her so much! Nurses are so very important and should take their oath as seriously as my momma did!!!!

I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto’s after being sick for 3 years & nobody being able to figure out what was wrong with me. In the 3 years, I’ve met some of the coldest, rudest, just awful medical professionals. I’ve been laughed at, told it’s mental illness, told to google my symptoms & come back when I have an idea of what’s wrong with me, etc. I cannot even believe how many medical professionals are working in the field, that have zero compassion for their patients. I know there’s absolutely some gems out there, but I’ve encountered some of the worst unfortunately. Get out of the medical field if you’re a dick.

Anywho, I showed her a video and she got so pissed at what they were saying and doing. She said taking care of patients is their f-ing job! She would have absolutely fired any of her nurses that acted the same way. She is very much about the patient and she will back her nurses if they are in the right, but she will never have mercy for nurses that are this way. I’ve never once hear her talk about patients. Does she have her times she’s vented about other work stuff? Absolutely and there is def nothing wrong with venting. But, find one person to do it with and don’t post it to social media while on the clock. This is just crazy behavior.

To explain the call light thing from a nurse’s perspective: nurses are often catching up on charting at the nurses station. When you come to the nurses station asking for something, there is an expectation that the nurse will stop everything they are doing to complete your request. When you press the call light it gives them an opportunity to finish the charting that they are working on and then go get you a water or blanket. Not excusing the TikTok but just wanted to explain why that can be annoying. Although I think most nurse’s understand that the patient or family member is just trying to be helpful 🙂

    • @emilys.7627

From a fellow nurse, this is the perfect way to explain it! We are always happy to serve you and make sure you are comfortable with warm blankets, water, crackers, etc. However, sometimes we can’t drop everything and do that right then and there when there are other more urgent things happening with other patients, so hitting the call light instead gives us the chance to prioritize care and make sure everyone is taken care of💕

Agreed! Also, as an ED nurse, at my hospital, our registration person usually takes the call bell calls and announces what the need is. Therefore anyone available, charge nurse, other nurses, ED techs, etc., can help grab blankets or drinks. Allows me to cont. charting or giving meds, for example.

    • @dhall75608
      @dhall75608 Год назад +3

There’s a policy at the hospital I work at that the nurses/aides have to answer the call light within a certain amt of time when it goes off. Charting can wait. Patients shouldn’t. If you’re taking care of another patient, that’s one thing. But for charting, no. But aides and nurses should be working together as well.

I’ve had good nurses and some who were really rude.
When I went to the ER with a herniated disc, the intake nurse literally told me I was making it up because I was too young to be in that much pain. I couldn’t even sit down, so I stood in the waiting room for close to 6 hours just trying not to scream, on top of the 11 hours I had been standing at home.
But the nurse I got in the back not only took me seriously, but when I was struggling to even get in the hospital bed she lifted me up herself and gently placed me there and moved me up to the triage unit. I was shivering from the pain so she ran to grab me 2 blankets and pumped my IV twice with painkillers and stayed there to chat with me about our favorite movies to calm me down while the drugs kicked in.
It was the worst pain I’ve ever been in and it took me almost 2 years of physical therapy, steroids, and muscle relaxers/painkillers to recover.

Thankfully my nurse was amazing, supportive, and most importantly allowed me to make my own choice without pressure but with support. I was bawling, apologizing to my husband.
I'm 11 weeks PP and I am so thankful I did not deliver at THAT hospital...
Edit to add- the reason I changed my mind about the epidural is because I fighting an infection at that time and was becoming incredibly weak, I was worried I wouldn't be strong enough to push and I had been fighting that infection for about 24 hours before it was caught. I can handle pain, I practice human body suspension it wasn't that I couldn't handle pain. It was because I was ill and needed relief.

As an Aussie nurse my understanding is HIPPA itself doesn’t specify on technology laws, but hospitals and healthcare services individually have social media policies that state you are not allowed to film or record in your workplace or in your uniform. Those nurses absolutely knew better than to film themselves at work in their uniforms!

    • @graymonk5972
      @graymonk5972 11 месяцев назад +1

yeah hipaa’s regulations mainly cover explicit sharing of info (like if you filmed a pt’s chart or talked about a patient with identifying details).
but shit-talking and using unspecific details isn’t what the law encompasses. however, like you said there’s a code of conduct you’re expected to follow at any workplace and ya gotta follow it. they definitely deserved to get fired for it, they knew what they were doing
for example, im a pharmacy tech and so i have to follow all of hipaa’s regulations. so like if i filmed the computer or gave info about a specific person, it’d be the same as me showing the computer to a person in-person, or talking to someone face to face who isn’t involved in the patient’s care
but my job has other rules to follow so while i can talk about the non-hipaa parts of my job, i’m supposed to say my views aren’t representative of the company (assuming i bring up which company i work for, ideally for your own privacy reasons ya don’t talk about where you work)

Considering how advanced we are as a country, our maternal/infant mortality rates are absolutely absurd. I can't imagine what that mother went through, and what many more continue to go through. I've learned that it is so incredibly important to educate ourselves when pregnant. Especially in densely populated areas where OBGYNs are overly congested. The clinics and hospitals inevitably start to run like an assembly line, and every patient becomes a number. You can't be afraid to ask questions and advocate for your own care, respectfully but assertively. While we should be able to rely on our medical professionals to care about us and our experience, it's just not realistic anymore. I felt completely powerless when I had my first, and my experience throughout the whole pregnancy and delivery was scary, disheartening, and traumatic. So now, going through my second pregnancy, I'm taking a much more proactive approach. I show up to my appointments with a notebook full of questions, my plan is to leave no stone unturned. And if that annoys the nurses, so be it. And if I'm mistreated in retaliation, I will speak up and I will defend myself. I think some of them have done the job for so long that they become disconnected as a human being. And I understand how that happens, but if you're in that position it is your responsibility to be aware of where you're at mentally, and how you affect your patients. If you get to the point where you just don't care anymore and can't muster up the slightest bit of compassion, it's time to do something differently. Not just for your patients, but for yourself. And that goes for a lot of other professions as well, including law enforcement, psychiatric care, social work, child care / teaching, etc. There are so many good ones out there. I still believe that there are more good ones than bad ones. But it's those few bad apples that end up doing so much damage. Shit's gotta change.

My god, im 31 and don't plan to have any kids but this warriors story of how she lost her child had me in tears, bawling, with chills all up and down my body. I don't even know what to say as someone who has spent a LOT of time in hospitals i FULLY understand what she means by their energy. When i was in ICU, i was one of the only patients awake, most were put into a medically induced coma to treatment so these nurses didn't have to deal with people who were awake most of the time and i swear to God, to this day, i remember the faces of those nurses and will never forget them. I honestly and truly do not understand why some of these nurses are in the field they are in and when i think about it too long i get so triggered, so upset i could cry any time i think about it. I'm terrified to go to the doctor now, even if im severly injured it takes SO much to get me to go to the ER bc of those bad people who decided yeah let me be a fucking NURSE but i really do hate everyone who breathes.

Ugh.. the nurse thing is so triggering. I’m glad these nurses are so bad that they feel free to expose themselves! When I had my twins they were rushed away and I couldn’t hold them for hours and hours. With my singleton baby I didn’t expect to have to give her up at all. And I didn’t. But the nurse assigned to my care made that experience even worse than when I had my twins. It was a planned c-section. She told me they wouldn’t be giving me pain medication. I knew she was entirely wrong lol but I said ok that’s cool as I was only wanting to get my child out of my body at that point. I wasn’t there to seek meds I was there to evacuate my tenant lol. She was so rude. As I’m getting cut open she’s telling the doctor I gave cat scratches on my leg. Just obsessed with
These “cat scratches” the doctor called her out “why do I care if she has a cat?!”
And instead of dropping it she decided to complain to the other nurses about the doctor lol. Then she refused to bathe my newborn. Which ok. But also let me sit in the same bloody pad that I had already worn for hours because according to her I wasn’t”the only patient” lol. When honestly she didn’t seem to understand that I was even physically there. Nursing is such a difficult profession but there are so many of them that judge before they even get to meet you. Goes without saying the entire healthcare system needs an overhaul.

She's the definition of soft yet strong. And i really hate that there are people in the medical field that can be so cold & careless. It overshadows all the lovely caring humans keeping us healthy/alive.

I am very fortunate and blessed to be a nurse, being able to care for people and also know my rights when I am in the patient position. After having my daughter, they would ignore my call light and sit at the desk doing nothing. Multiple times my friend who is also in healthcare had to restart my antibiotic IV drip because they would ignore the alarm and let it be clogged. It scares me that some people don't know what's going on or what rights they have.

I hope that those that are in the wrong profession leave the profession and do something else with their lives. Doctors and nurses are there to help patients not make things even worse. Mama Doctor Jones has made a lot of informative videos on the topic of infant and mother mortality rates during labor and delivery here in the States and how it is exponentially higher for African American women and babies. Clearly our health care system, especially in regard to women’s reproductive health, needs an overhaul to improve the outcomes for pregnant mothers throughout the States.

As an ER nurse and a flight nurse I can say that there is a problem on both sides of the coin. Nurses are presenting themselves online (in uniform) therefore representing the profession in a light that the board of nursing can call “conduct unbecoming” and they don’t realize that by saying and doing these things you could not only lose you job but your license. Patients are becoming more belligerent, antagonistic, threatening and violent than I have ever seen in my 15 + years in this career. This could be rectified by blanket state and federal laws making it a crime to threaten healthcare workers AND backing from the companies that own the hospitals that we want safe work environments.

My mom is a nurse and tbh the hardest thing for her are families that sometimes are asking about meds that nurse obviously can't talk about, screaming at nurses, claiming that nurses are stealing for patients even though people on the ward are eldrely with dementia etc and they often lose stuff. My mother is great nurse working for over 30 years now. In my country Saint Nicholas Day is a big thing and people are exchanging presents with their family, boyfriends etc so in the last few years she organise it at her ward buying gifts just to make patients happy. Obviously she is often very tired and underpayed. This job is very difficult. She was threatened to be sued just because she didn't answer question about meds which is ridiculous. Respect for all the nurses that put their hearts into this job. You are true superheroes. Also best wishes to Karelly 💗 Amazing gifts from Sydney, Janelle and Kendall.

It just felt like they wanted to rush the birth and get it over with, so they could get the next person in. I did not feel supported and cared for. My third birth was at a smaller hospital and it was amazing! The midwife and nurses were so friendly and patient. I just felt like I had all the time in the world to do things my way. When I'm in pain, I go into a sort of very quiet, very still, shutdown state. That's how I cope with things. They just let me get on with it, they did not tell me to get up and walk, get procedures done to speed things up, etc. I felt very safe and relaxed. I'm still grateful to them!

I'm an ER nurse, never worked L&D, and agreed I'd never film at work nor post something complaining about patients. The general public have no idea the responsibility nurses have, and can't understand how things we may complain to coworkers about are frustrating. As an ER nurse I may have 6 patients one being an ICU patient on multiple drips, a stroke, an abdominal pain, a NSTEMI that I need to start a heparin drip on but I need to get an accurate weight on first, another patient that I need to take upstairs, and I just got another patient in the room that I just discharged and it isn't even clean yet and I haven't even charted on that pt I that just left. We're busy and unfortunately i can't always timely get to things patients request thay arent emergent. We had 9 cardiac arrests in 36 hours the last weekend I worked. We're coding a patient in one room and after coding that patient for 45 minutes I answer a call light and that patient is making rude comments about how long it took for me to answer the call light. Some patients suck, some family members suck but they will always be treated with respect and kindness even when it's hard or they treat you poorly. We're doing our best. I may complain but never in a tiktok filmed at work.

I actually work at the hospital they were employed at as a nurse myself and the general consensus of everyone else in the hospital is that we are all pretty disturbed by the behavior. “Breakroom” talk is just that, talk that is shared in private with your cohorts… not shared on social media. Or better yet, in some cases, not verbalized at all! These patients depend on us, and to make fun of them for asking for a blanket? What’s the patient supposed to do, get up and get it themselves?
Patients can be rude, mean, condescending and make your job miserable but that kind of patient is very few and far between. The majority of patients are there against their will, vulnerable and want to go home. They depend on your care to SURVIVE the hospitalization.
Nursing is a pleasure, and it’s a shame these nurses now have us all in the spotlight. We have it hard enough without the whole world turning on us thinking we are uncaring monsters. I am sincerely sorry to anyone who feels betrayed or triggered by their abhorrent behavior.

I put myself in the patient's position the second I get frustrated--it quickly diffuses because I know my service matters. Not only to the patient but their family. They want their family member healthy and at home. I really hope they start showing these in nursing classes as an example of unprofessionalism at it's finest.

I prefer my patients and their families use the call light because if I’m at the nursing station, im typically charting, placing orders, and/or speaking with doctors. It’s the expectation to drop everything I am doing to get a blanket that is a little frustrating. If the call light is used, I can find a good stopping point to help the patient or the CNA to grab it for them. It’s not the biggest deal but it is preference because I have to log out of my computer every time I leave it. It slows down a lot of what I have going on especially when I’m having to chart every 15 minutes :) no excuses for their behavior but as a nurse that is why I prefer you use the call light.

Regarding the nurses .. I work in a hospital and can confirm that we do have a policy which states that no videos or pictures taken in any work setting can be posted to social media unless approved by an exec for marketing purposes. I'm sure it's not the same everywhere but I'm willing to bet money that MOST hospitals have policies similar to this.

As long as there are no personal identifiers of a patient (name, address, social security number, place of employment, phone number, etc), you can discuss a situation and it does not break HIPAA. So, if I were a patient, someone could tell a story such as “I was taking care of a 25-year old female at work today with the flu that she obtained from a coworker” but they cannot say “I was taking care of a 25-year woman named Blahblah who stated she got the flu from her job at Starbucks on 1st Ave.”
HOWEVER, that company for sure has a no phone policy. I would imagine that their reason for termination was breach of contract for using phones at work or “stealing time”. I also know that the hospital I work for has a clause in our contract where it says we cannot bring negative attention to the hospital on social media. I would say filming in uniform at the hospital is a one way ticket out of the door.
They didn’t break HIPAA, but I am glad they were fired. Horrifying that they were ever working with mothers and babies.

As someone who is in nursing school and working towards becoming an NP in labor & delivery, I couldn’t IMAGINE talking about patients like they did. It’s such a beautiful process and the moms need comfort and reassurance, not to be felt like they’re a burden. I feel terrible thinking about how the women who delivered with these nurses felt when seeing the video.

The nurses talking about their pts is MY ICK. As a nurse myself I have seen and been with pts during their hardest and worst moments. Sure some things can stress you out but it’s disgusting to post this on tik tok. Especially when you know they just want views!! Nursing is supposed to be a trusted profession and the nurses who chose to bash pts publicly/ pull all these weird exploitative stunts for views are harming that.

I watch a RUclipsr named Sloan sometimes. He just released a video saying Nick Carter & his family are now threatening him & his family because Sloan released a video about these allegations. That’s what he does though, he reports celebrity gossip. This isn’t the first time a celebrity has come after him, Drake Bell and few others have as well😅. But I’ve never seen him look so scared from a threat before honestly. Watching the part where this girl said he was saying horrible things to ensure she wouldn’t come forward about the Sa, and how scared she looked is how scared he looked the other night. It’s hard to know in these situations but my gut tells me Nick Carter is a pos..

I did not give birth at that hospital, but I gave birth at the hospital I take people to all the time. (Im a medic) A hospital I trusted. 39 hours into my labor they were ready to do a c section. I was screaming that I couldn't sit up for the epidural, i was gunna sit on my baby, i could feel her ect. This one nurse..... she yanked me up, as im screaming and shaking, PUTS HER HAND OVER MY MOUTH AND TELLS ME TO BE QUIET, and they hold me for the epidural. Im still screaming i cant do it. They lay me back and sure enough... she was crowning. I was feeling her come out, nobody would listen. I ended up pushing and giving birth, epidural didnt even work anyways, and its actually caused issues with my spine and a portion of muscle in my back. It was not a good experience. I wish I had just given birth at home now honestly. But my girl is healthy and almost 5 months old now. ❤️

Oh my Lord, I am so sorry you went through that. Reminds me of this crazy old dentist from my home town. I knew someone who took her 5 year old to get fillings, and he cried while getting the shots. This woman got mad at him for crying, threatened to make it hurt worse, and then pushed the needle in so hard that it broke off in this poor baby's mouth. She then left it in there while she took her sweet damn time getting a new needle. The unfortunate truth is that some people take positions of service in order to take their hatred out on vulnerable people. We see this with nurses, doctors, cops, social workers, even judges. I had nurses who treated me like trash when I had my first, And I truly believe it was because I was young. It felt like they were annoyed because I was inexperienced. I think being on Medicaid also had something to do with it. Where I live, Medicaid patients are less than human. They also placed my epidural incorrectly, snapped at me when I convulsed (involuntarily) and I now have permanent nerve damage. Also, due to the improper placement, I felt them cut into me when I was rushed back for an emergency C-section. They had to give me ketamine, so I don't remember my daughter entering the world. It bothered me for a long time, but I choose to take comfort knowing that my husband got to meet her first, which is still incredibly special to me. 8 years later, I'm now pregnant with my second, And I drive almost an hour to a much better facility for my care. I'm hoping for a much smoother delivery this time around. 😅 Anywho, I'm so very glad you're little one is doing well. I suppose at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

Happy belated Bday Karelly! I’m catching up after this week’s episode. I would love to see your artistic creations on the channel more. My advice for 25 is to ask for help even when you may not be sure you need it, and to not be so hard on yourself internally. 25-29 and 30 come laden with lots of expectations, and even if you’re happy with your goals it can be hard to enjoy your achievements with how much crap you’re trying to manage. So that’s my bday advice, take it easy on yourself and take lots of selfies with your friends! :3

Idk guys, Nick Carter could have gotten anybody he wanted. And he only ever wanted beautiful, skinny girls, who he could brag about. Not saying this lady is ugly, but I don’t think she met Nick Carter’s standards. I don’t think he would have been with somebody with cerebral palsy, esp when he could be with anybody. And I’m saying this because HE was/is THAT shallow, not that I myself think she’s not good enough for him. I also see several red flags w body language. In hs, my close friend (until this incident) falsely accused someone to get out of trouble w her parents. When she told them the story, I was there, and she sounded this upset. It was eerily similar. And it wasn’t because it happened, it was bcuz she made it up and was scared of getting caught. Btw, I know she made it up because I was w her the night it supposedly happened, and she talked to me after abt how scared she was her parents wouldn’t fall for it. If we’ve learned anything from the DJ/AH fiasco, it’s that all women’s stories should be listened to and investigated, not immediately believed without question. Because thanks to the AH’s in this world, unfortunately ppl DO make horrific crap up for fame and money.😖😞

clearly the tiktok video from those nurses was in very bad taste. however, it’s also important to note that there is still very much a huge nursing shortage right now, and nurses are being severely overworked and under appreciated with crazy patient ratios and inadequate support/staffing. that doesn’t justify this video whatsoever, but I think it’s clear all of those nurses were showing telltale signs of burnout, and this situation isn’t as black and white as slamming all of those women and labeling them as “bad nurses” nor “horrible people”

I feel the same way, and sometimes it’s not about what you say but how you say it. If they said “you have the right to refuse an epideral, but as a nurse I hate to see you in 10/10 pain” or “I hate when a father disrespects my patient by asking for a paternity test at the bedside right after a birth” or “I hate it when I feel rushed by a provider when they ask me how much the baby weighs when I haven’t even made it to the scale yet” or “I hate it when I can’t give all my patients equal attention because one family member is monopolizing my time instead of using their call light or clustering their requests” would we even be talking about This? Then again, I wish nurses wouldn’t post stuff like this because it takes attention away from the issues many nurse creators are trying to bring light to.
