He might’ve noticed this when the founder Glenn Greenwald left
Isn't that about the time Klippenstein joined?. Or was that Lee Fang? I still think Matt Taibbi and Greenwald are top notch.
After Glenn left Lee Fang was the only one doing actual journalism over there... until he got fed up with it and left like a year. Ken is sooo late to the party lol
@@dao8805 Lee was hired before. Glenn takes great pride in having been the one to hire Lee. Lee then left The Intercept like a year ago or so.
@@nottherealxandercrews4742 I'm sure you're right, so thanks. It's hard to keep up. Yes, Lee Fang has integrity and I knew he left but couldn't recall when he joined.
Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Matt Taibbi, Lee Fang, Whitney Webb, and Ryan Grim. These journalists I trust out of hand, and very few others.
Glenn already exposed this.
Ken is old-hat here... the Intercept has been GARBAGE more and more since Glenn left!
Yet it really doesn't dimmish him taking a stand himself. Not sure why people denigrate someone taking a stand. Probably people who never done that themselves. It's not fun.
This was relevant when Glenn left. This is just funny lol

Klippenstein: "...I realize I'm lighting my career on fire with other outlets like The Intercept, but, ummm...I thought it through and I don't really care that I do that cuz I never want to be in a situation like that again."
Klippenstein couldn't have been ignorant of the censorship pressures given The Intercept's funding structure, never mind the circumstances surrounding Glenn Greenwald's resignation only a few years ago. Was he not paying attention? Maybe living under his desk?
I would expect his specialty--national security--to have made him acutely aware, if not a firsthand witness, of institutional/structural power and influence being exerted behind the scenes. Even a food critic must be aware of how the business side affects editorial decisions. He couldn't have been this naive, could he? Was he completely oblivious? Too dense to have an inkling of what was going on until he was explicitly told about it?
He lost his credibility some time ago when he--a national security reporter--never reported on Rusgate and when asked why not, he said it was "boring".
I take his self-aggrandizing I'm-so-honorable-I-won't-compromise explanation for his resignation as seriously as he took Rusgate.
@@liuj88 When have you quit your job on your principles like this guy did? What? Never? Then why criticize someone for standing on principle. It makes what you are saying hypocritical and really disingenuous.
@@AA-cg3gd
I believe you've seriously misapprehended what I said.
I didn't criticize Klippenstein for standing on principle. I criticized him for pretending to have principles.
I also said that his cavalier dismissal of Rusgate--the very serious effects of which continue to influence US domestic politics and foreign policy to this day--makes him very unserious and very unprofessional, to put it mildly. Especially when Rusgate fits perfectly within his ostensible expertise, national security.
And because I don't find him credible for the above reasons and more, I don't automatically take his word that he's an innocent, righteous victim whose honor was impugned and that, despite the immense personal and professional risk, he will bravely (though sadly) sacrifice his career at The Intercept and other outlets in order to forge ahead as an independent journalist, even if no one holds his hand. Because he doesn't "want to be in a situation like that again."
I think he's a selfish, cynical actor who went through a banal editorial process and conveniently used it for maximum personal advantage. I hope this clarifies things for you.
As for whether I've quit my job on principles: it is presumptuous of you to think that I've never done so. Not that it matters one way or the other, because it's irrelevant.
I feel the same about him now.
Ken the last one to figure this out. Hardly news.
And Ryan Grimm never has been independent, never will be.
He’s not exactly known for being clever either, so no surprise there
Jimmy Dore called this years ago
Exactly. Jimmy rattles a lot of cages and triggers some people but he almost always is way ahead and on target. I just wish he would stop peddling that metals group; it's beneath him.
@@dao8805What about the Jimmy Dore liquid greens? They’re delicious and nutritious! I love my Jimmy Dore greens!
@@jamesmcelroy5830 Greens are one thing but bringing on a grifter and giving him a platform to spout the same Chicago School of economics that got this country into the mess it's in just to make his product look appealing is like leading the sheep toward the edge of a cliff. It goes against everything many of us thought Jimmy believed in and his integrity is taking a huge hit.
With our country so divided politically and culturally, one thing we should all value, left or right, is honesty and transparency, both in journalism and in government.
Only the left values honesty and transparency.
Amen
Amen
That would require getting pentagon mouthpieces like Klippenstein out of journalism. Instead, the hill gives him attention
He left so he could write more hit pieces on whistleblowers
Greenwald and Lee Fang way out ahead of Ken here.
The Intercept is no longer a News Shop, it's a Tool Shed.
He was taking his time shopping for insurance on the exchange. COBRA is expensive.
I lost respect for Ken after his hack hit piece on David Grusch. Good riddance!!
Same. Calling out a person's completely unrelated mental health issues was pretty much unforgivable.
Definitely. And the fact that he’s the son of Stephen J. Klippenstein, a theoretical chemist for the DOE (Department of Energy), it’s almost a parody of why he would write that piece of Grusch…
I can't remember anymore his reasoning for including health issues in his Grusch article, so I can't say whether it was legitimate or reasonable.
I do remember his reasoning for not covering Russiagate: he said it was "boring". This is inexcusable for a reporter, and even worse for a national security reporter.
Exactly, protecting daddies money
Same.
That resignation letter lol. Ken didn’t burn that bridge, he blew it up on the way out. Nice work sir.
Finally someone I can agree with. Thank you for actually celebrating a guy showing some integrity.
Jimmy dore has been saying the intercept has been captured for years...
Excellent story! Thanks guys for shining a light on it! The inside look into why our Legacy Media is so whack is very appreciated!
News for you Ken. They always were.
isnt klippenstein the guy who wanted us all to have mandatory FORCED POKES?
Also the guy who shamed a veteran for having PTSD.
Just like any company, Klippenstein will sink or swim in the marketplace on the strength of his product and service. If Ken has had an epiphany and wants to do pure journalism...he'll succeed. If Ken wants to toe the ideological line for celebrity, safety or access, he'll drown in massive sea of lazy sycophantic stenographers called the US media.
I stopped reading the Intercept when Greenwald left.
I want some more Klipenstine hot takes on Covid. 🙄 goof
Canceled Intercept subscription
He left to do independent journalism for the CIA rather than establishment reporting for the CIA
I can't wait to see how Ryan covers this departure over on Broken Points.
Lol asking a chameleon why it changed its colors again is a story? Sad.
Ken has no integrity. Good riddance.
Yeah ok. He just quit on principle. Cheap unsubstantiated shot by someone who probably has never quit a job ever for principle.
What a bunch of hooey. Do better.
The teaching point for me when Ken said to look at who the ads are from.
What Ken is saying is exactly what GG said when he left. Its clear this is systemic in the Intercept. The more important story for me is how & when Glen, Jeremy & Ryan lost control of the organization they founded?
I remember Ryan Grimm alluding to getting a promotion. He is (or was) an outstanding journalist but that promotion has come with strings attached.
This demise of The Intercept as a source of journalism coincides with a blizzard of appeals for donations. Every day brings three, or more, appeals to my feed from The Intercept, telling me that unless I pony up the site will go under.
Naturally I've ignored them.
That's just not true. Take NPR for example. It was funded by the gov't but still went extreme left even before the Reagan administration reduced the funding. Journalism will ALWAYS be tools of political parties.
Okay, Thomas, I won't dispute your low opinion of journalism. For me, that's quite beside the point.
The situation which upset Mr Klippenstein coincided with a blizzard of appeals for donations, to my feed, from The Intercept.
The stated reason for the appeals was, that unless they got enough donations, The Intercept would cease publication.
If you wish to tell me that that's false, go ahead.
@@meofamily4 It's not a low opinion. I am stating a fact that we all bow to whoever "pay" or "benefit" us (that includes me). To elevate Journalists and Journalism to some ideal saints is ludicrous and dangerous. Look how easily university students are manipulated due to their naivete?
In my opinion,@@thomasc9036 , you are trolling. I say A. You say Z I repeat A. You repeat Z.
@@thomasc9036 NR the extreme left? HAHA yeah right.
This story needs to get wider coverage. You should also run the names and pics of the presstitutes involved as background as you do the interview.
Can anyone think of how else they can be 1) named, 2) shamed, and 3) hit in the pocketbook?
Literally just started my monthly donation today, since The Intercept was like begging for donations in their email. I will promptly cancel my subscription right now~!
Good move Ken. Now use your incite and ability for good. Do journalism no matter who it effects, seek truth not some validation from elites. Oh and stop posting peoples criminal history because you dont like what they said.
Ken’s rep is dust
Maybe, but he's right that you can succeed in independent media. That's where news media is growing. Many people, especially the younger generations, have never read the NYT or Washington Post and never will. It's a dying model.
Kenny Klipps, I have had nothing but love and respect for you ever since your TYT days. Now you have turned off of the paved highway onto a rough dirt road, choosing principle over smoother security. I wish you success in this noble endeavor!
Good that journalists are leaving the lie factory.
He's a Hamas supporter, he's the worst kind of "journalist", he wants us to pay jizya.
Ken needs his booster
Hasnt Greenwald and Jimmy Dore been talking about this for years?
So explain your hit piece on David Grusch now
Robbie is taking a poke at the bosses here. Nice to see honesty, but don't lose your job.
Awaiting Ryan Grims principled resignation to follow... waiting.... still waiting...
Glad Ken is speaking out. The Intercept came begging for money - won't be getting any from me.
Time for "Klip" to do his own show to promote his work. Maybe just once a week to start to see if he can get things off the ground
Respect
Can you please leave journalism too, Ken? You are giving our profession a bad name. Journalism is about serving the public, not your sources.
who is Bri referring to, that was subtweeting?
Kenny Klips is an amazing journalist, the intercept is sunk... it's so unfortunate, they had a great team
Ken wants money to do whatever he wants.
This is the introduction to Orwells 1984 if it were written today.
so sad. Depressing.
Money tends to.cause a lot of rot in ones ideals at times like this.
Good on Ken for making the right choice.
Its 'not for you' if it has ads for companies that appeal to wealthy people. This is Ken's argument. He is a classic BS artist.
Says the biggest shill for status quo I have ever seen lol.
@@AA-cg3gd 'status quo'. you mean things like supporting democracy? Ken is moving to substack for one reason - its more lucrative.
That's fair criticism, but he generally means those news organizations cater to a tiny subset of the population. And if that's his point, he's right. Significant research has been done on this phenomenon, where places like the NYT realized that they get most of their revenue and engagement from a specific subset of the population and thus no longer cater to the general populace.
@@scratchpenny 'significant research'. That is a line of BS. Ken is on substack. He is there because he knows it can be very lucrative. That is the only reason he is there.
@@peterstafford4426 It's not, though. I can't post links here but look into the reporting/research done on the NYT's target audience. These reports/research have uncovered that executives at this organization consciously decided to target a smaller subset of the population because that drove engagement advertising revenue. Thus, they no longer write for the general population with their "journalism" and opinion pieces, even though they still claim to do that. This reporting/research was uncovered years ago.
Institutional protection machine.
full support to ken
Honestly, being at The Intercept only hurt Ken's reputation. Glad he's moving past that rag. Best of luck to you Ken!
Blah blah blah… when are Brie Brie and Robby leaving corporate owned The Hill and sticking it to the man?
Hopefully never. Krystal and Saagar left The Hill and became more corporate.
@@ghenulo saager every now and then goes lone wolf. like 3-4 months ago he made a statement like "the big bad secret in DC is that our military secrets are primarily stolen by israel then sold to china"
@@ghenulo
why do you think Krystal became more corporate?
@@ghenulo But in contrast, Kim Iversen left and became more independent. I think that Krystal and Saagar always had 1 foot in the corporate world, so their descent isn't that surprising.
Bri seems free to do what she wants on the Hill, no?
I love the fact that he has a kuckuck clock in the background. Wonder if it is wound and gives the full hour every hour 😀
Hey, at least his clock is right twice a day!
The Intercept has about as much credibility as the Huffington Post now.
Wouldn’t this have been the kind of story that would have benefitted from partnerships with peers at other newsrooms? Like, it’s what they used to do back in the day.
Unfortunately, Substack is also getting flooded so it’s hard to keep up with so many others.
The flood of management consultants has been happening in tech for a long time, too

Why NOBODY cares
You will never be able to force the people to accept the criminal behavior of others.
Biff Biffenstein has had enough! 🫵🏻😲
We do need truthful fearless and adversarial journalism. There is a lot of hard truth to tell. On a side note, the part of the story where Jeff Bezos gives Eva Longoria millions of dollars fascinates me, I have to know more about that.
I'm still going to read The Intercept and Ken can think whatever he wants. Bye Ken
Go no further than Glenn Greenwald
Why are you interviewing someone who is irrelevant now? Get better guests
Ken thinks he'll be missed 😂
On Rising, I see ads for Trump 😂
AFT
Now with substack (I subscribe) wonder what dirt would have come out in the 70s NYT, WaPo.
Odds are he has decided that he can make more money on substack pushing BS. It works great for Matt Taibbi.
🤡
So i love you both, Bri and Robby. Please find a way to co-exist my brother my sister i love so much
This guy is just now awaking to the corporation pander onto leftist politics for branding clout😂
Welcome to real life you babies . don’t do what your job tells you to you leave it and go find a new one
I was just wondering why someone no one has ever heard of left a publication no one reads!
You guys have obviously never used your back to make a living
That woman is overbearing she won't be good for your channel long-term
Thanks for putting Ken on, I miss him tremendously from the old Rising days.
ken figuring out what jimmy dore was lambasted for saying 3? 4? years ago lol.
RISING, looking at the hills coverage of anything... you are next lol
I have contacted The Intercept and The Grayzone and Glenn and Lee about a national security story involving LASD, LAPD, SMPD, but they are slowing my emails down.
Seeing Israeli IP logins and Scientologists following me around as well.
Jesus you guys are toxic. Another analysis of the Intercept is not a bad thing.
He is a Nobody. Why are you covering this?
!!!
Ken needs another booster.
Its always so confusing to see the girl on the left, I can't even remember her name, but she is always clueless. I'm like why.. is there a studio behind you, why not just webcam from home in your pajamas while eating peanut butter and smoking a joint? I'm so confused with this channel and constant juxtaposition of their opinions, where they are on Dunning Kruger effect chart, how wrong they are, and the meaning of it all.
Ryan is a shill for the left. Umm, reminds me of Bri.
Yeah, because billionaires ARE the LEFT.
