    Just imagine how much it took to send a Space Marine into despair and almost break them- learning that the leader you look up to is actually a traitor; that your entire career for the past several centuries, all the things you've done and the hardships you've endured in the name of righteousness, was all ordered by a traitor and all of it meant nothing. But Tarkus was there to bring him back from the brink.

      In his service as the captain of the honor guard serving directly to Kyras and knowing that all that he’s done what not in the name of the greater good, but everything he does was just another scheme played by Kyras
      Apothecary Galan who was corrupted tells us that Diomedes is too prideful and arrogant to even realize what he’s done
      It took a decade for Diomedes to realize that he just another pawn for Kyras after Kyras revealed that he’s indeed corrupted and told Diomedes himself that all he’s been told to do was for his own gain
      This shock him and make him aware for what he has done all this time, the same thing that makes Avitus(if you choose him to be the traitor) realize the reality of the chapter and his own existence
      It took Tarkus to convince him that there still time to redeem himself, show him that he can still do good and free the chapter from corruption to a new age of glory
      Later he realize this and see that Gabriel is more befitting to be the chapter master and step down from his position from the captain of the honor guard to a chaplain to guard the chapter honor and dignity and prevent it from corruption ever again

      @@paples2835 I could agree that there is definitely a rhyme in making Dio stand on guard of chapter's purity after his experiences of balancing on the edge of heresy, but he's just not the psychological type to be in charge of ideological organization:
      For blib sake he failed to see rampart corruption around him because he doesn't think or reflect, he acts on orders and duty - it would make more sense to put him in charge of zealous redemption or penance crusade, because he is best in the battlefield, not the praying room.

      @Blazieth 7 лет назад +56

      Yup. Avitus was the only other squadmate besides Thule who was confirmed to have served on Kronus, and Thule mechanically not be a traitor. He doesn't even have a corruption meter, and if yours gets too high, he ABANDONS your ass. The only other possible traitor not seen in Retribution is Thaddeus, who was explicitly not on Kronus.
      Martellus, Tarkus and Cyrus are all playable, and Jonah is with Angelos. As for Hairgel and Thaddeus, I believe it's stated somewhere that they end up in the neutral ending of a Crusade of Absolution into the Eye of Terror.

    • @Blazieth
      @Blazieth 7 лет назад +19

      No, Hairgel (common nickname for the Commander/Avatar) is not a possible traitor in the context we talk about with Avitus being the canon one. However, in the various endings after the Chaos Rising campaign is over, various things do happen to him. In a full purity ending with a convinced Diomedes, the Commander becomes Captain of the 4th Company. In the corruption endings, the Commander is either executed by Angelos, or turns traitor himself and joins the Black Legion. The neutral ending, however, with medium-to-high corruption, is the Crusade of Absolution that I mentioned above.

      @musafawundu6718 4 года назад +32

      It is not a theory that Avitus is the canon betrayer. Everything in this dialogue and what was mentioned in previous games points to Avitus being the betrayer. Since Tarkus, Cyrus, Jonah Orion, and Martellus all appear in Retribution, they CANNOT be the betrayers. That leaves Aramus (the Force Commander), Thaddeus, and Avitus as the only options remaining.
      From the dialogue in the video, Avitus mentions another person that he served alongside on Kronus and with whom he became fast friends during the Tyranid Invasion. That immediately cuts out Thaddeus, since Thaddeus did not serve on Kronus as Thaddeus repeatedly in previous games asks about the Kronus Campaign. It is not known if Aramus served on Kronus, but it seems as though he only first met the others during the events of DOW2. It is known that Avitus did serve on Kronus and they were certainly friends. It thoroughly pained Tarkus to have to kill Avitus.

      5 Years old but the Karuva campaign is a reference to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade which is canonically a Blood Ravens victory. And then Dawn of War 2 and it's expansion, Chaos Rising where if done "Correctly" i guess? Avitus is the traitor which is the "Canon" ending. In my first play through it was actually the tech marine, which is apparently the "Everyone is super devoted but we still have this scripted betrayal so one of two NPCs" ending. I love this scene. In some ways it would've been nice to have a corruption level in Retribution because at this moment Diomedes had all but given up hope; so depending on how badly corrupted you are; you could've maybe opted to not listen to Tarkus & maybe only cared about your own survival than the chapter itself as some renegade space marines do become brigands or pirates which could be interesting as even if corrupted I doubt Diomedes would want anything to do with Kyras; he might still oppose him but not for the sake of the shattered chapter. A bit of choice could've been fun for this but ah well; still great nonetheless :)

    While content published by the Black Library is supposed to be canon, in the 40k universe, canon doesn't always mean "true". So, the books and the games could both be considered "canon", but which version of events is true is completely up for interpretation. Personally, I'd prefer the events that don't directly contradict the lore and make no sense.

    @ReconTeam111 Additional evidence for this is in the hammer Diomedes receives, which states the the 'Nameless' previous wielder went 'berzerk' after Kyras declared him a renegade, which I think is Kyras's interpretation of the Commander's absence from the sub-sector, since he couldn't possibly know of the Commander's exile, since Angelos was the one who ordered it.

    @MrBuda200 Dawn of war wiki, theres a few though. There's a Dawn of war 2 novel which gives the Force commander the name Aramus, but if i remember right its the end of Chaos Rising where Gabriel sends the Force Commander to Meridian. Seeing as Thaddeus is also missing he is probably with him. Also in the novel it says they were both recruited roughly the same time on meridian even though the game says Thaddeus is the only one in years.

  • @Shyyrn
    @Shyyrn 13 лет назад +1

    @ReconTeam111 As of Thaddeus... no one knows. :P However, the prevailing theory is that he accompanied the Commander on his exile.

    @Strawngbad Well it cant be Davian, cos as a Dreadnaught he cant get corrupted, Jonah is shown in every campaign in Retribution fighting alongside Gabriel Angelos, Tarkus, Cyrus and Martellus are right here, your Force Commander cant become the traitor, and from what Tarkus has said here, our traitor fought on Kronus with him aswell as during the Tyranid invasion. During conversations within DoW2, it is said that Avitus and Tarkus fought together on Kronus.
    It has to be Avitus.

  • @redeye117
    @redeye117 13 лет назад +1

    According to Tarkus the traitor is someone he serve together in Kronus and become fast friends during the Tyranid Invasion...
    This leave Thadeus out as he wasnt at Kronus so which only leave to Avitus and Force Commander.
    Since he mention serve together which mean that they both are relatively same ranking which make Avitus most likely the offical traitor..
    But it can be presume that the Force Commander could be a tactical marine in Kronus but got promoted later...

  • @ExValeFor

  • @luisandres95

    @UNSCJohn117 yep, in a thunder hammer's (which i dont know how's called) background the story of the FC is explained "once a great commander that fought in 2 Aurelian crusades ( both dawn of war 2 games ) but he let a brother fell into chaos and is sent to the eye of terror to battle for 100 years (the "medium" ending in chaos rising)" and for Avitus, well he and Tarkus were the only marines present on Kronus (besides of Davian Thule of course) leaving Avitus being the traitor.

  • @lonebel1
    @lonebel1 10 лет назад +1

    also as I stated...the games storyline actually changed depending on how you play them, so one straight storyline from the book is non canon while 10 different storylines that flow parallel to each other and contradict one another are canon?

  • @Bluehero345
    @Bluehero345 13 лет назад

    @WyczesanyBober But the only direct mention of him is that hammer, and it seems to state that noone is sure what happened to him. There is the ending in Chaos Rising that you simply leave with Angelos' 3rd Company and are branded as renegades by Kyras, and that happens if you attack Diomedes without killing Galan on Calderis.

    Martellus can become the head of the tech priest in blood raven
    Diomedes can be the force commander of strike team
    Aramus can become the 4th captain of Blood Ravens defending the recruiting world
    And Thaddeus can become a sergeant serving under Aramus to help recruit the Blood Raven space marines

    @Guudni it isn't thaddeus, think about it, the only other seargant that served with Tarkus on Kronus was Avitus, if Avitus betrayes you in chaos rising he says how after the battle of Kronus he was approached by Kyras who ordered him to provide aid and information to Eliphas. Thus because of this and how it is said in this cutscene it is clear that Avitus is the offical traitor

  • @martoboyo
    @martoboyo 13 лет назад

    @darkpyro75 The FC became the new Chaos Lord or got corrupted by Kyras and now serves the Honor Guard, I'm not sure. Avitus is the betrayer, he's the one Tarkus mentions. Thaddeus' fate is unknown, he's most likely also a betrayer and joined the Chaos Army as a new Chaos Champion. Cyrus and Tarkus serve Diomedes. Thule still serves in the Chapter, though he is killed by Eliphas in the Chaos Campaign. That indicates he's still alive

    @delta3030 well, as far as I know the FC (now the Nameless) was sent to fight in the eye of terror for 100 years to redeem himself for his failures ( letting Avitus betray the chapter), Thule appears in Retribution but only in the chaos campaign and Thaddeus, well he is never mentioned but he probably is with the FC.
