Getting the most from the Fluke 9010A RAM tests

  • If you have a Fluke 9010A or a FlukeEM this video will show you how to test your RAM and the path through all the related components to try and located the fault.
    Just because your PCB fails a RAM test doesn't necessarily mean that it's a RAM chip that is bad. It could be a buffer, a broken trace, a chip select problem, etc... It could be something else on the BUS that is clobbering a data or address line. Using this technique it will help you narrow down where the problem is.

    I like the idea of using a ZIF socket, but does that damage to CPU socket?

      I have 2 ZIF sockets that I use. I put those in a regular socket and one in a machine pin socket (round). I had to twist the ZIF socket pins 90 degrees to get them to go in the regular sockets. So it's basically stacking sockets. I use which ever one fits best and makes the best contact. If the socket gets damaged, I would probably be replacing it anyway with a machine pin socket.
