- This video details the best way to get the most out of your Thrustmaster TCA Controllers - the Quadrant, Add-On & Sidestick in the Aerosoft CRJ for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Works with both the 550 & 700 variants. This is the only way I've found to get a fully working flaps axis, parking brake and gear lever with the Aerosoft CRJ. On top, I've managed to somewhat realistically emulate the engine start procedure using the throttle quadrant.
Using a combination of native Microsoft Flight Simulator keybinds and scripting in AxisAndOhs I have managed to get all the useful and keys working on the TCA Quadrant and Add-On, along with some bonus assignments for the TCA Sidestick!

This tutorial is worth a million bucks ! I think best option (for me) is to buy Axis And Ohs, not expensive at all…an investment for the future. Not many functions missing, need to program Parking Brake + Gear Up & Down at least. Thanks heaps ! I haven’t checked for the script yet, I’m sure it there.
Glad you're getting there Roy, many thanks for the comment!
Thanks for this super helpful video! Recently got the CRJ and planning to get the airbus controller, I'll definitely use your tips to set it up. You have great content and you deserve more subs, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words dude! Feel free to comment again if any questions come up
Thx mate ! Finally got my addons, about to start configuring CRJ. Hopefully hardware will support
Seems an awesome and super useful add-on, thinking to buy AxisAndOhs.
It’s incredibly powerful but has a steep learning curve. Worth a go if you’ve got the time to figure it out!
Thanks, this is a really useful video!
Glad it helped 😊
Well done and explain.
I may have found the issue with parking break, It's being created by msfs. Inside the sim the setting are 19 and 20 for the parking break, 21 is for the gear up and down. Axis and oh's use the real template from thrustmaster so for them parking break is 19 and gear 20.
Thank you! And thanks for dropping by.
I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand why that is an issue?
@@BobbyFuzzyWhen you mention you cannot set parking break. The sim as 2 buttons for the parking break. but axis and oh's have only one.
@@thepik3932 I don't think that would make much of a difference, setting the parking brake using the default MSFS bind using other aircraft works fine. I'ts more to do with the way the CRJ deals with switches that 'hold' an input rather than a momentary push button.
ohh thank you very much, i'm perfect could configure another, T.a320 sensitivity
Wow, massive pain in the rear end trying to follow this. I'm shocked and amazed that this process is so incredibly convoluted. Would be so much better if Thrustmaster built higher-quality components. I regard the TCA stuff as borderline junk. And yes, I own it. And yes, I have experienced the noisy potentiometer (POT) issue on the twist-grip rudder on the Sidestick, and yes, I disabled that until FlyByWire made it mandatory for nosewheel steering on the ground. Then I got involved with warranty claims (over and over) as one after another of the Thrustmaster units failed typically 3 or 4 months after going into service. Thrustmaster continues to sell these with this 'known issue' (you might call it a problem) and tongue-in-cheek advised I could 'try to re-route the wiring myself' whilst risking voiding my warranty, or, in the alternative, destroy the unit (by cutting off the USB cord) and then waiting whatever time for a replacement unit from Thrustmaster. That would be OK if only the 'replacement' did not also have the same noisy pot issue on the twist-grip axis. Thus, the word "junk". I would expect 36 months of solid performance before 'problems' arose on a bit of kit like the TCA product line.
Feel your pain about the bindings but that's not really TM's fault. Complex add-ons for the sim are using a lot of custom events and variables therefore need a bit of a different approach to keybinding.
The issue with the hardware, yeah, it not the greatest but then again it costs a decent bit less than anything else similar out there. I got rid of the sidestick as I was tired of fixing it. Rerouting the wires worked for a few months but then the issue returned. The noisy pot problem apparently is something that's been an issue for years with their T.1600M which the TCA Sidestick is basically a carbon copy of. Bit silly really, I won't be buying any more TM gear and will be replacing my quadrant when the VKB TECS throttle releases. I'm already on my 3rd unit for that due QC issues!
And just for reference, it's not mandatory to use the Z axis for the nosewheel on the A32NX, that can be bound to any axis, obviously that is the most realistic, however, you don't even need to use it at all and just continue with the rudder on your pedals or something if it's problematic. Hopefully that helps!
Bravo good sir. You have sold me on this programme and thanks for making the scripts. Can’t use it in full as I don’t have the add one yet so will need to change some of them to what I have (I.e black buttons for parking brake and something else).
For engine start do you still have to manually press the engine buttons above?
Just downloaded and got it setup. Only thing not working is your complex throttle setup. The levers rise up but pushing my throttle to idle does move it
@@whatsnext5460 Glad to hear it! It’s super useful!
Yes engine igniters still need to be pressed overhead. I chose not to bind them and went for the APU instead as you’re usually relatively untasked when starting the engines. Though if you found the LVAR for those keys (I could actually send you the scripts as I already did them once) you could change the APU start for the L & R start buttons.
The throttles need to go back into the reverse range on the throttle once the cutoff latch has been lifted. They are basically activating a virtual button that resides below idle. Double check you have virtual buttons turned on in the Thrustmaster control panel.
Thanks again for commenting bro! 🙏
@@BobbyFuzzy thanks again man. Still no luck with the throttle but I can live without. At least the latches lift!
@@whatsnext5460 Hmm, that's odd! Forgive me if a silly suggestion but sometimes just a simple restart of AAO resolves the issue. Will double check if there are any other reasons that it may not work ASAP.
@@BobbyFuzzy appreciate that buddy. I did do a number of restarts (it crashes often for me anyway haha)
with your template when using "ign start" the flap must be put to full or else will go crazy up down, and when "crank" the flap must be 0 or else will go crazy up down.. how to fix this?
Have you made sure there are no other bindings within the simulator on the IGN/START and CRANK knob positions? Would recommend taking a look through all your in-sim bindings and making sure there isn't anything conflicting with the binds within AAO.
Thanks very much for this! Everything seems to be working as intended with the exception of the parking brake, there is no animation nor does it seem to be releasing on the display, there are no conflicts in the simulator controls either. Any ideas?
Sometimes you might have to reload the CRJ through dev mode for it to work when testing. Use the aircraft selector and reload then test again.
@@BobbyFuzzy Thanks for the quick reply but unfortunately that didn’t work.
@@chilionastick Hmm. That is strange. I've not flown the CRJ for a few weeks so I'll have another test and let you know if something needs fixing! Feel free to join the discord if you want to chat about it more.
@@BobbyFuzzy I sure will, thanks!
I've done exactly what you've showed here. When I go to the simulator, fire up the CRJ, and I press in any of the buttons on the TCA quadrant: nada. Axis and Ohs detect the button, but it's like sim isn't connected to the Axis and Ohs (yes, it says connected and detects the aircraft).
edit: sim reset did the trick.
@@LockyNum Nice one!
I followed the vid however everything works but the parking brake animation. I have the full version of AxisandOhs, any suggestions would be helpful. The presentation was smooth however lack of the 2nd screen was worrisome however you said I cannot break anything, so I felt better.
Never mind, I selected SUPRESS KEY DOWN EVENT in assigned combo. It was not selected. If yours does not work, try this. I have a working brake and a new sale for AxisandOhs- make sure they thank you :) If not, let me know, I will give them "the business" LOL stay blessed.
Glad you got it working! I haven't flown the CRJ in quite some time so can't say as to whether mine still works or not but it did last time I used it!
@@BobbyFuzzy all good. I really just wish the CRJ was more. I mean it really had the potential. I am not giving up . I booked Flight Expo and hoping to have a word with Areosoft - respectfully of course to do a quick pulse check.
@@toddmullins5831 It would be interesting to hear if they are planning on doing any more with it, considering it was released so early on, they might be able to make use of some new SDK additions now! I imagine probably nothing will be done though until Hans is done with the ATR though.
Great video! However, I am unable to import the script as this function is not active in my installation of AAO. Suggestions?
Thank you Michael! Make sure the sim is running and connected 😊
@@BobbyFuzzy Figured it out. Great job on the script - working well now.
Lovely job!
Does this also work with the crj 900 and 1000?
Sure does!
Tried this for thustmaster hotas and sadly it won’t recognize the flaps, autopilot disco, and others. Great video though
Thanks for commenting. Unfortunate but this video was intended for users of the TCA Series gear. Although theoretically, you should be able to get it to work with any controller with a bit of tinkering. The current version of MSFS however does not work properly with AxisAndOhs at the moment, I'm surprised you could set it up without crashing.
I used your scripts, everything works as it should except the gear lever still goes bezerk. Any ideas?
Great stuff! Check you don't still have it bound in MSFS, that's the only thing I can think that would be causing that.
@@BobbyFuzzy I removed the msfs binding and still the same thing. I managed to work around by setting “gear toggle” to it instead, it’s not perfect but I found a way to make it work.
Parking brake has also a mind of his own…
@@AvsSensBest If you're using AxisAndOhs you shouldn't have anything bound in MSFS and leave all the controls bar the bare minimum like I did in the video, to AAO, otherwise you will get conflicts.
I read the documentation and was able to locate my problems, I likely clicked stuff by mistake. It’s all working fine now. I even used their “flaps detent” feature to help on the Cessna 152 since it has 1 less detent than the TCA addon.
@@AvsSensBest Glad you worked it out!
well it all makes sense now, or even before. I have been flying DCS now Xplane and MSFS, and never seen or heard of it before.
It seems somewhat unnecessary to actually use the Animated screen inside the SIM. That would never occur to me.
Even though many fighter planes have HUDs and MFDs that you interact with, but that is the thrill of fighter piloting, doing it in a battle.
Glad it now makes sense!
Followed everything in your video, but parking brake doesnt work.
What do you mean by 'doesn't work'? Does it not turn on? Does it not release? Any animation? Obviously make sure you have removed the chocks when you are testing!
What on earth is this screen inside the SIM ? please describe ahead of time, verrry non standard to anything ive used or seen to setup a joystick for flying in a flight SIM. Ive watched 5 o r 6 videos on the topic of setup TCA Joy and throttle, they all go to this cockpit screen without any description or reference to what this thing is. Something so unusual to anything related to Joystick setup should be described and given some reference... Also achronyms are evil...TOGA ? really, define them always pleeez
Can you be more specific - I’m not sure which screen you’re referring to? Happy to try and help if you can elaborate.
TOGA = Take Off/Go Around. However the purpose of the video was not to explain what and why certain buttons are used (I explain what these buttons do in other videos), it was to show how I access them using keybindings.
@@BobbyFuzzy after several hours of research and experimentation I figured out that the iPad screen inside the aircraft is for several purposes including calibrating the joystick which I tried several times using my physical joystick which did not work at all however I resolved all my issues by calibrating the joystick in the Sim aircraft with the iPad in the aircraft and downloading the new drivers and firmware which is somewhat more complicated than originally thought.. it's 1988 all over again thanks for your reply if it's not clear already the screen I'm referring to is the iPad on the left side of the pilot seat which looks interesting to use at a later time. I suppose this is normal in these Airbus aircraft or they appeared after I downloaded the flight Sim software.
@@BobbyFuzzy I think you were flying the crj aircraft similar features and issues with the Airbus 320 ...if it's not clear already I have the TCA joystick and throttle quadrants
@@marcw.5492 Oh yes I see, the EFB (Electronic Flight Bag). I covered that in quite a bit of detail in my CRJ tutorial if you want to know more - ruclips.net/video/-r9gtBPNafI/видео.html
For the EFB in the A320 you will need the 'A32NX' freeware add-on which you can get at flybywiresim.com
The TCA Quadrant and Sidestick is supported by them both. Be sure to have a read of the documentation!
@@BobbyFuzzy I assume you mean the electronic flight bag is the iPad which was referred to by other RUclipsrs as iPad

Canu fly in real life
I can, but whether I can do it well is another question 😂
