- Join me as I fit new brake pad wear sensors to my 2010 Mini R56, a job I should have done when I did the discs and pads previously. I also show you the rest procedure for when you've done it.
Thanks! I just fitted new discs, pads and sensor on the front, but still had the warning light showing.
I followed your instructions and although I didn't get to the front pad reset miles (I'll try that another day), it did a system check before I got to the brake reset bit and I got All OK, and my brake warning has gone away now. So all ready for the MOT tomorrow - phew! Thanks again.😀
That's great to hear Tony - I'm glad it worked for you. Hopefully you got a clean MOT pass too!
You are the best! Nobody told press button on dash! Thank you!!!
Thanks Dima, great that it was helpful for you.
Problem solved, thanks for the video. Your info worked for me.
Thanks for the comment Paul and great to hear that it was helpful for you.
Thank you for helping me reset my sensors...
Thanks Joe, glad it was helpful.
Brilliant, helped me reset mine and a few other warnings too!
That's great to hear Tim, and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thank you! Easy to follow.
Thanks Stephanie, I'm glad it was useful for you. 👍
Very helpful. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Steve, glad it was helpful. Enjoy your Mini!
Thanks for the video! Can't wait to find out if this works haha
Thanks Anna Marie for taking time to comment and I hope it works too!
Really helpful video, just ordered the sensor to do this next weekend. Although currently I also have 2 more lighting indicators on my wife's R56: Exclamation mark is always displaying ( the one which is on when you pull the hand brake), and also I have the "car on ramp" service light on. Do you think changing the brake sensors and reseting it will also delete this two? We have read the error code with my repairman, but there was nothing else, just the brake pad sensor wear ....
Thanks very helpful
Thanks Robert, I'm glad it helped.
Good job thanks
Thanks - hope you found it helpful.
Very handy
Thanks Derek, glad it was useful.
Hey brother, not sure if you reply to this comment but I have a 2006 mini Cooper and it's a six speed but when I'm driving on the highway randomly the brakes will start to engage. I have to pull over once I come to turn the car off and then back on then I'm able to move again. I don't know what it would be causing the brakes like that
Certainly doesn't sound right. Check that you don't have a sticking caliper (quite common - happened on 3 of my cars previously) and then check fault codes using an OBDII reader to confirm there's no issue with the ABS module.
Thank my guy
No problem Adam and thanks for taking time to comment.
@Mostly Helpful You're welcome. I reset it with my snap On legend scan tool, but it popped right back on. Thanks to your video, it made it super easy to turn off the light.
I did not do my brakes, the service light came on, brakes still looking good. When I try to reset i see a negative km number......any suggestions ?
I sold my Mini two years ago yesterday (by coincidence) so I don't have any suggestions unfortunately.
How did you did witht the pilot light?
Do you mean the brake pad warning light?
Why do they have to make it such a mission? I've never had to remove a wheel arch cover before to unplug a sensor, they are usually less than 10 inches long.
It's annoying isn't it. I didn't like that car though and I'm glad to have got rid of it. On the subject of brake wear sensors, I've replaced loads in my motoring career, but never once have I activated one because I'd never let my pads get that low. So on my Alpina rather than spend on new sensors I just made a shorting out plug so I never need to deal with it again.
Just having to do mine as the wire has snapped at the pad mounting end. I've previously done the rear and could just about get to it with just the wheel off. The front looks annoying but its that or MOT fail. I tried the wire the connectors together trick but it didn't work. I guess the sensor is a resistor or something.
@@MostlyHelpful i often let mine get too low but i guess i jut ignore the light. I've usually got them in stock but once i drove 10 hours from Barcelona to Chamonix (not on motorway) with no front pads left. managed to save the discs (rotors) using gears and hand brake.
Annoyingly i first unplugged the abs sensor but then i saw there is a hole you can probably get your hand through to get to the plugs if you know what your doing. The wheel arch cover wasn't that bad but i never have the correct tools for those plastic rivets. The other annoying thing was that i bought left and right sensors for front and back only to find there is only one per side as usual. Seeing both left and right listed on Autodoc threw me off. I should have looked first. Probably them trying to trick people into buying more stuff they are identical.
@@1000sofusernames try the reset, someone did a vid on how to reset the estimated ware left. You do it all on the spedo, it's a bit tricky but you will get it.
Are they only on one side please?
Yes, only on the one side. I've never in my life worn through a brake wear pad sensor though, so I am not sure how useful they are!
@@MostlyHelpful Once you get about 3/4 through the pad, the sensor starts getting worn too and that causes it (I am guessing) to earth on the disc and make the warning light come on, until it is reset. Perhaps you always got your pads replaced in plenty of time and the light never cam on for you; but apparently when you remove a sensor, it tends to break it, so they have to be replaced anyway. (Mine broke, but they were worn anyway). 🚗 Have fun out there 👍
They're on left front and right rear. Standard German stuff.
"press and hold that"
Press and hold what? You're donig it off camera without explaining what you're doing.
The challenges of holding a camera and operating a car unfortunately. Tell me the time stamp and I'll tell you what I am referring too.
"that" = the switch at the end of signal stick...
