A couple of things… use copper grease in the back of the brake pads to stop vibration / squeal, an impact wrench works great on the Torx T50 screw and use a new screw every time, use copper grease on the T50 threads and do not torque it up tight, it’s only there to hold the disc on when the wheel is removed.
Copper grease isn’t needed on those pads if you look there is a slightly raised pad that does the same job, if that wasn’t there then yes apply the grease
This was a great video. I had my rear brakes done the other day and they were were spinning freely. I used my handbrake and now one side has a lot of resistance and doesn’t want to spin freely anymore. They installed a new caliper on that side also. Any thoughts?
Waooo.... bien explicado si mi esposo hubiera visto este video antes no hubiera dado tantas vueltas y se hubiera ahorrado tantos corajes gracias x el video aunque no hablamos el idioma nos sirvió mucho 👍👍👍👍
Just a suggestion in the comments, if you have a centering screw for the rotors, you may want to put a little anti-seize on the screw so if you need to do the job again the anti-seize makes the screw easier to remove.
how does screwing the piston back in affect the pressure on the opposite wheel?mine extended so far it does not want to screw in? or is the drivers side reverse threaded?
New to me 2013 Mini Cooper S. Red brake light on, I think it's the hand brake sensor, now thinking its the wires. Are there 2 versions of the pads, one without sensors?
At the end there are two studs the mechanic puts into where the wheel studs go - those do not appear in the lost of tools and parts in the details of this video. Could 1A- Auto add that? Id like to buy those for my Mini Copper R53. It will save a few swear words when putting the wheels back on.
Okay so I used to have a tool to screw in these pads but I threw it away years ago cuz I didn't need it anymore after saving it for years Well you don't need a special tool to screw in both of the rear brake caliper pistons all you need is some adjustable wrenches maybe a large vise grip or channel locks and it's clockwise rotation to screw them in both sides left and right are clockwise and just grab the edge of the metal Don't get the rubber grab the edge of the metal and turn it a quarter turn each time and then go back up and redo it again until it goes all the way down mostly seated flat then you'll need some needle nose pliers to stick in those two grooves on the piston and just use the needle nose just as you were already screwing in the piston Stick them in the slots and continue turning until it bottoms out you don't need a special tool and you don't need to remove the emergency brake cable somebody mentioned that above in the comments you don't need to disconnect the cable
Is this the same procedure for a countryman? Also I wish all the torque specs were said, super useful I’m gona just assume this is pretty similar to a countryman and start tearing apart my wheels 🤓😁👍🏼wish me luck lol
I would just tuck that sensor up with the connector, zip tie it together and forget about it. If you are replacing the rotors every time you change the pads who needs a warning.
Yea, me too. But they are designed for STUPID people. Smart people change their brake and keep records of things. Also, I do these on yearly... That way I can grease the Pins, check rotor + etc...
Great video. Clear picture and well lit so you can see everything. I wish I had found this before I started. I'd be done by now. The piston tool is the simplest version. I found one at a local auto parts store. A more complicated tool is available that presses the piston as it turns it. A lot more money and probably harder to find. Are there times when the parking brake mechanism won't let the piston retract?
1A Auto Parts I mean does the car in total have 4 ? My car have only one left installed and one more question please can the speed sensor give that warning for brake ? Because I scan the car and have no warning for pads but for speed sensor mini 2006 thanks
@@1AAuto but is it total of 4 for the car my car have only one installed ? can the speed sensor in the same side give the same warning for the brake ? i scan the car and no warning for the pads but there is a warning for the speed sensor, thanks for your help
+amir ibrahim Some vehicles have just one wear sensor, or one in the front and one in the rear, so if that is the case for your vehicle that is correct. You can get an ABS light on if the ABS speed sensor is not functioning properly.
Hi, great video! Very helpful, I’ve done several brake jobs on previous cars, about to do first one on my 2015 Paceman all4. Do you know if the Countryman/Paceman Minis R61 have the same screw in caliper pistons as the Mini hardtop you show in this video? Thanks again!
+tommybass40 Thanks for watching! That is something that you are probably best contacting a Mini dealership to find out, as we do not have that info. 1aauto.com
Nice video but I do not recommend buying any parts from the online retailer A1 Auto. I bought brake pads that don't fit and they refuse to exchange them for the correct part. The website is misleading as they put 2 different car model parts right next to each other. The front and rear pads I received are for different vehicle models. When you choose your parts online for the front pads, it is right next to the wrong set of rear pads even though I put in the correct vehicle information. I also received the items with damaged packaging and it did not seem to concern 1A Auto when I brought t to their attention. It was past their official return time, but the holidays should have have some extension like most reputable retailers. So now I have pads I cannot use or return. Great customer service 1A! Do yourself a favor, use your local auto part store where they would be willing to help you out and provide GOOD customer service and they are cheaper too. I am extremely unsatisfied with 1A Auto and will never use them again.

Thanks guys easy to follow, very in-depth in every aspect. So happy you have the same car as me 😋 keep up the great work 👍
Wire brushes the hub, next scene the hub is brand new LMAO
You don't need to remove the caliper bracket to get the disc out on these cars. Just so you know 👍
yep I left them in place and swapped the rotor 👍👍👍

or is the drivers side reverse threaded?
doesn't affect the opposite wheel but unscrew the cap of the brake fluid reservoir as the fluid might overflow while pushing the piston(s) back
You can wind the caliper back in with a pair of small mole grips on one of the notches, taking care not to pinch the rubber sleeve

Can you not use a c clamp to push the piston back in?
I use a big c clamp and channel lock pliers. Be careful with the boot tho
I tried and broke the damn handle on my c clamp it didn't even move at all
No it's not that type of piston, it's a twist release not pressure release
What kind the tool use for retractable piston brake ? NOT in the list
The new break sencer does not allow bleeder cap to be used

LOL, he said he clean it. He clean it so good, it's brand new !!! LMFAO
Nice told is the front pads the same as back
front brakes - you need a piston compressor (or C clamp) to press the piston back into the caliper - otherwise its exactly the same.
Hahahahaha, I see cheating on the video !!! Also, nice new hub there. OMG, he clean that thing to "New" again !!!
sure shinny still a good vid

Does the 2015 mini have to be in service mode for the piston to go back into the brake
6:42 Impact gun on torx screw !!? Try that and feedback to this space
it's a t50, I used a 3/8 impact
What do I do if the piston boot is turning with the piston as I turn the piston?
Put a bit of wd40 or similar .lever back with small screwdriver and squirt bit in .be carefull not to damage seal

Hi guy lookin for some rear disc pad and rotor for 2oo4 mini cooper how can u guy. Help?
No need to remove the broken or worn (light is on) sensor, just throw it out with the pad
Right, I just cut mine, it's easier... It was $6.00. I was NOT going to sit there all day and save it !!!
can you turn off the light for the break/sensor without changing the sensor? I have new pads but I think the sensor is not working. Thanks
yes, just butt splice the wires together.

Never use brake cleaner on rubber parts. It will dry them out and it’ll crack in the future
To compress the piston back just use a C clamp been doing it for years.
+Trayohesuea Vanderbilt Thanks for the tip!
You can't do that with these. They must be turned in. Otherwise damage can occur. The fronts simply compress.
Correct on front's, The rear Has to be screwed, it ratchets out when E brake is Used...
Pretty sure this won't work with this style of caliper. You need to screw it back in.
noneof those sensors are ever coming off intact. junk design.
