    Masae you can turn off motion controls completely by clicking on the "gear" button on the bottom screen then click on the "options" button then go onto the second page and boom you have the option to turn off motion controls

    • @MasaeAnela
      @MasaeAnela  6 лет назад +13

      It turns it off, but doesn't adjust the speed of the circle pad aiming when it's horrendously slow. I don't inherently dislike gyro, I just hate how it's your only useful option.

    • @MarioBrosFan
      @MarioBrosFan 6 лет назад +8

      I can see why it's annoying for Let's Plays, but otherwise, I think it's one of the better implementations of gyro controls on the 3DS. There are games that would benefit so much from a recalibrator or even an on/off toggle option (looking at you, Dark Moon). These gyro controls allowed me to breeze through the Shooting Galleries, and I know how infamous the Clock Town one is; Emile told me all about it in his Health & Safety warning. Still, I also wish the Circle Pad speed could be faster.

    • @BlueSparxLPs
      @BlueSparxLPs 6 лет назад +1

      Wait, IS there a way to recalibrate the motion controls without backing out of the bow? Because that was a constant problem with the archery games, and I kept failing them just because the gyro would become unaligned.

    Fun fact: Woodfall's Great Fairy gave you the upgraded Spin Attack in the original game instead of the doubled magic meter. Snowhead's Great Fairy is now the one that gives the upgraded Spin Attack. I assume they changed this because having extra magic will be extremely useful for the rest of the game, as you'll get tons of magic-draining abilities from this point onward.

    In the original, the official strategy guide never even mentioned the bow tactic. It told players to fight Odolwa with Deku Link, and yu'd stun him by jumping out of a flower right underneath him, like the spiked turtles.
    Seeing Odolwa get super nerfed like he is here is sad. Should have been "Stun with an arrow or Deku Flower from below > jump above him and Deku Nut the eyeball to knock him flat > then stab him to death".
    And yes. Bring back his dances.

    I guess the reason as to why this fight was changed was so the Deku Mask could have some sort of use in it, since this is the dungeon that makes use of said mask in the first place. Unfortunately, they kinda messed up, making this fight easier.

    Gyro controls should have a low sensitivity and the circle pad should have a high sensitivity, the circle pad would be used to aim in a general direction and the motion controls would be used to make slight adjustments to your aim.

    Since technically we are done here we go with the trivia. Now in the manga the Odolwa fight doesn't occur in the temple but rather in the deku palace (why the writers decided this I have no idea). The princess was also already placed in the bottle that you use in the game with said bottle on the boss's person. Also, the deku king apparently tries to punish three animals with the intention to punish the entire forest for "kidnapping the princess" so his daughter calling him foolish is an understatement. Oh and the great fairies for whatever reason don't exist in the manga. And finally the deku princess, in the manga has a crush?... on links deku form.

    For the record, the Deku form's magic bubble shot actually works great on the dinolfos; in fact the Deku bubble shot is an all around great ranged weapon, even after you get the bow. It might seem random and inaccurate, but the bubbles have AOE when they pop which makes it a non issue as long as you are within range. And they are surprisingly powerful, too!

    Wait, so they made Odolwa even easier? That's disappointing. I mean, I get them wanting to have the mask associated with the dungeon to factor into the boss fight like it does at Snowhead and Great Bay, and I understand that this is the first boss but if you figure out what to do, it's way too easy in my opinion.

This version not only requires (slightly) more effort, but also manages to create a use for the Deku form, which in the original version was basically completely useless for anything except platforming.

    I always found it kind of weird how this dungeon had two minibosses. Also, Gekko is unique for another reason: the frog he turns into is important later.
    6:22 I love this puzzle.
    I've always liked the Stray Fairy mechanic. Gives you something more to do in dungeons, making them a bit more interesting. And the rewards are all great. Though this one brings up old confusion in me. She says she's Wisdom, yet she's green, which corresponds to Farore. When I was a kind, I always thought Farore was wisdom and Nayru was courage, but then I realized it made sense for the green goddess to represent courage, but now this... argh! (It still makes sense for Nayru to be Wisdom though, she's the mascot of Oracle of Ages, which is more puzzle-based compared to Seasons)
    I never played the original, so I never had any frame of reference for the changes here. In some ways this change makes sense though: in the original, the next two boss fights at least were heavily focused on their region's transformation masks. So it only makes sense for Odalwa to be based on the Deku Mask.

    Hmm I never knew you could use the Blast Mask on Gekko.
    I think the Temple boss fights are the thing I dislike the most about the remake (maybe the only thing outside of moving around some pieces of heart) they make some of the fights (the last 2, really) drawn out and terrible in terms of making you use more than that temple's Link form.
    But that's a rant for later in the LP =P

  • @GenesisSanctuary
    @GenesisSanctuary 6 лет назад +62

    And now we start getting to the changes with this remake that I'm not a fan of at all. Out of all the changed bosses, there's only one where I think it made the fight better, although it'll be a while until we get there. I hate what Grezzo did to Odolwa here. He was always pretty easy to beat, but this is just sad how pathetic he is now. He barely even attacks, at least one of his attacks from the N64 version was outright removed(summoning a swarm of moths to chase after you, and I've never seen him running a lap around the arena like in the original. I've heard he does still summon a ring of fire around you, but only if you intentionally drag out the fight for as long as possible, and it's still rare.) and a lot of his charm from the N64 was lost. In the original game, he was constantly doing a swaying motion at a standstill to go along with his chanting, but here he just takes a crouching stance with his shield up most of the time. Worst of all, the fact that he just stands there dumbfounded when you go into the flower and float above him really just makes this fight insultingly easy. I get wanting to give Deku Link a key use in the fight, but I think it could have been done so much better. Finally, I just plain hate the addition of the eyeball on all of these bosses. It was so unnecessary and looks awful on all of them.

    As I can totally understand your point of gyro controls, they actually helped me out a ton in the Shooting Gallery games and complete it even faster. I was recently playing the Wii U VC version and the aiming with the control stick caused me to move my aim too far left (or right) of the targets.
    I just think gyro is one of the best things to exist in gaming especially if you're a speedrunner. It even works so efficiently in WW and TP HD.

But I always played this at home in a spinning chair and it was always so easy to use the motion control, just push off the wall and I'm aiming at whatever's behind me, it was really nice to be able to use in the ranch alien and horse track target shoots, it was one of my favorite mechanics in the game

    I find it hilarious every time Odolwa says his name over and over. As for the fight itself, sure its less broken than the original where you can beat him in two seconds if you get in between his legs and keep hitting him. Here the change seems to make the fight more than just a random slice fest but it might have made the fight even easier somehow. He barely even attacks now where the original the hard part was getting in there because he usually knocks you back. But at least he did something. Here he just stands around for you to stun him and attack his weak point. They could have had something if they made him a bit more aggressive.

    It still bugs me supremely - there has to have been some sort of error somewhere, because why is the Great Fairy of Wisdom green? They gave Red to the Great Fairy of Power, but Wisdom and Courage have their colors swapped. It's especially noticeable when the text is the right color for them, so the Great Fairy of Green Hair talks in Blue.

  • @OrangeKyle91
    @OrangeKyle91 6 лет назад +3

    22:00 I'm surprised you didn't mention the version difference here: in the original N64 version of this game, you would collect pink fairies in the Woodfall Temple, and your reward for restoring this Great Fairy would be a powered up Spin Attack. In the 3DS version, the green-haired Great Fairy, who previously appeared at Snowhead, has swapped places with the pink-haired one.
    By the way, I like gyro aiming when I can do it properly. Doesn't work so well if you're riding in a car (that's when I turn mine off), or, as you mention, if your range of motion is restricted. But outside of those circumstances, it can allow for quick and precise aiming that you just wouldn't get from the Circle Pad or any kind of analog stick.

    • @MasaeAnela
      @MasaeAnela  6 лет назад +1

      I probably should have clarified. Yes, you can turn it off, but it doesn't adjust the speed of the Circle Pad aiming to compensate it. At all. In the N64 Zeldas, the aiming was quick and snappy, but in the 3DS version it's slow and actually drags a bit before changing direction.

      There's also the problem that the gyro desyncs very easily. I found it borderline unusable because it kept losing its alignment and as far as I could tell there was no way to recenter without backing out of using the bow. This was especially a problem with archery minigames, where you HAVE to use the motion controls to aim quick enough.

    Making it harder to stun him/stopping you from stun locking was a good thing but I hate how in every dungeon boss fight except possibly gyorg they attempt to solve the problems the boss had and take away part of what made it a good boss in the first place. The boss fights are also the place where I find the aesthetic changes most irritating. It's not just the giant cartoonish eyeballs but also just how bright and vibrant the bosses seem when before they felt more dark and menacing... it's mostly the giant glowing eyeballs though.
    I really liked how many of the fights in majora's mask had multiple valid tactics to deal with them and odolwa was the prime example of this.

    Odolwa... not quite as intimidating as Bongo-Bongo from OoT (original or 3D), but for some reason, the tribal motif between the two bosses reminds me of the Shadow temple boss. Yay for restoring the SECOND great fairy, aka "pointy tits", and awakening the first of the four giants. Can't wait to see the Deku princess reunited with her father in the next episode because that bottle is NO PLACE for a princess.

    Watching this reminds me of one of my old friends who had this game and we made theories about what Majora's Mask transformed you after wearing it. One of them was a giant three headed demon that had the powers of the first three bosses. Either way, that very same Christmas I got a gold cart of Majora's Mask and my love for this game began.

    I know they would change a lot of little things, but I didn't think they would screw with a boss. They probably changed it because of the new arrow controls talked about in the video, but man did they cut poor Odolwa's nuts off.

      @theoaremevano3227 6 лет назад +1

      Actually I don't think they did prior to the newer games like Skyward Sword. The ones in OoT only jump over you and I think in this game they removed the lizalfos and just redid the Dinalfos. Dinalfos didn't breathe fire in OoT either. In fact they barely showed up, only appearing in Ganon's Tower and the Gerudo Training Ground. They're meant to be like the step up from Lizalfos.

      The 64 version right? Maybe they do. XD Like i said, you barely see them in that game. They look really weird in OoT compared to their overhaul in Majora's Mask. I just remember them doing the jumping attack over and over in Ganon's tower and countering that with the spin attack. Maybe I never saw it because I didn't leave them alone enough. In MM they do it after taking a hit if you let them.

    prefer all the old bosses, the 1 reason I cant make my challenge of 3 day all done is the changes to the bosses, besides there was a unique loop to easily kill Odolwa, he would only take 2 "hit" each cycle, but if you give it a single hit then jump attacked and kept jump attacking, the double damage of the jump attack would knock him down again until he died, the loop wouldnt work unless you give him a normal swing first and attacking with the Great Fairy Sword didnt work in any situation (I tried) no reason to mention FDM since its overkill in any situation BUT the remade bosses

  • @omencito
    @omencito 6 лет назад

    Actually, you can attack Odolwa in a similar fashion to the N64 version. I just did it today. Shoot him with arrows when he's not looking at you, and then hit him with your sword. He will be stunned, and you can hit his eye and eventually kill him. It's a much better fight than using the deku flowers.

    Right, first of all, what the STUFF were they thinking making the great fairy of wisdom green!? I don’t know if it’s just me, but wisdom has been associated with blue in this series for a while, Green with Courage, and Red with Power, so taking a turn like this kind of makes me perturbed. I think it’s bad design, but then again she is the fairy in the forest so... I guess that makes up for it? Anyway all ranting aside, Great job Masae! Love to see the classics being played by you, I don’t know, I couldn’t get on board with a few of the let’s play’s you had done in the past, and I am glad to see a game I can recognize with again, I think Zelda is a great series and I’m glad that you do this. Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you guys, next time! Dabombdotcom out!

      From what I heard, Nintendo was never about the graphics, but more the gameplay in the first place, and their consoles would always be one step behind their competitors in terms of processing power. Even though I think BotW's graphics look amazing, does it truly matter that much when the point of the games is having fun alone or with the whole family, and succeed greatly in doing so?

    I beat this boss in this version of the game like a year ago, so I don't remember much about it, but I remember that was NOT the way I beat it. I'm pretty sure I used the hero bow to beat him, as I would probably never have used deku seeds to beat him because I'm not a big fan of them. Maybe I'm wrong, though, and I just don't remember it haha.

    Im going to have to disagree on the aiming, I think its fine at that speed for me, and you CAN turn off gyro controls. Anytime you need to aim the arrows fast, it'll probably only be in combat, and vn in that cas, you can L-Target shoot

  • @ShigKirby
    @ShigKirby 6 лет назад

    I can understand your recording setup but I found gyro aiming very quick and easy to use and I do have shaky hands. I don't remember having to adjust that much to aim for what is in front of me. Never really felt the need to be traditional and use the normal circle pad as pointing and aiming always felt nice even if I obviously play a lot of games that use standard second sticking aiming. At least I didn't feel it was obtrusive anyway. I'm pretty sure you can turn it off though.

    the old fight took out the whole deku part and made it to where you didn't need it . this is the only zelda where the weapon in the dungeon didn't kill the boss but it was the mask that corresponded with that dungeon. deku zora and goron, each one made you not use the weapon but more the mask. except for deku this was a fix that seemed to make sense but weakened him and the experience greatly.
