Random Goron #1: Oh what a sad day, our hero Darmani has died, what should we put on his gravestone? Random Goron #2: I don't know, maybe a description on how someone could use his body after his soul gets trapped in a mask. Random Goron #1: WTF!?
Now the story with the Goron Mask and the Zora Mask has always hit me in the gut when you learn about what has happened to both Darmani and Mikau especially the latter when he tells you what happened to him in a song.
The Deku one is sad too, but it's less overt. It's heavily implied the spirit in the Deku Mask is the Bulter's son, and he's the tree you go past in the first area.
The North Mountain never fails to bring me to tears. Darmani’s suffering is just horrible-going off to save his people but unfortunately being blown to his death by a blizzard... this area hurts me.
I always felt like the Mountain and Canyon were the darkest areas. The ocean has a couple dark elements, but like the swamp story, it's more mischief on the part of the skull kid rather than a curse that could kill off an entire people.
Theo Aremevano I didn't think the Canyon was that dark. I mean it still contains a little bit of Nintendo silliness like the whole floating King and his minions heads. It still has the scariest enemies though imo like Wallmasters and Floormasters.
More the general backstory than the content. :) He released a curse that prevented the dead from resting and brought back a bloody war that ended long ago.
I always thought the Song of Healing has a really sad and creepy concept. It can lift curses off of people but if a person is beyond help, it lulls their soul to peace by showing them illusions and of their loved ones.
Speaking of kicking chests open, I love doing that very thing in BOTW with no anything on to cover Link's feet. That stubbing of his toes is hilarious.
He's probably thinking "Owwww why did I think that that was a good idea? Now my toe hurts like heck." It is hilarious. I laughed the first time I saw it and giggle every time now. His shivering animation is pretty good.
Actually Masae you don't need to stay with him. You can actually head for his gravesite after talking to him and he will just appear there. At least that's how it was in the Original.
Which gives me an excuse to laugh at Masae when she messes something up that I consider easy. If she messes up something that I consider hard, then she has my sympathy.
Being Canadian, I can attest to this. I also agree with you on the fact that it's more bearable on Snowhead Mountain. Just the other day it was -22C (-28C with windchill), too cold for it to snow. Currently it's -14C (-21C with windchill) and blizzard-ing.
I like how Kaepora Gaebora is basically filling Zelda/Sheik's role from Ocarina of Time (and unless I'm very much mistaken, he's still Rararu, making him, Link and the brief Zelda cameo the only the returning Ocarina of Time characters too).
In the N64 version, I've always seen the goron's "butt punch" as more of a shoulder bash. It really is a butt punch in this game. Did we ever see the deku's shield?
I'm amazed that no one's pointed out that in Majora's Mask, the Lens of Truth is actually required to progress as you need it to see and talk to Darmani's spirit. In OoT, if you knew where every hidden treasure, platform, or enemy was, and the way to the colossus, then you would never need to get it at all.
So, you remember how in the previous game the Gorons had a special crop of bomb flowers? That means they eat bombs, right? Try throwing that goron a bomb to eat. I remember he has a reaction to it.
Did they basically add a lot of the Japanese elements from the original Majora's Mask port? Like when Masae went to the ranch and it showed Epona, it did the camera angle like it did in the Japanese version along with the Deku Princess's sound effects and with Darunia's groan after playing the Song of Healing
Interesting thing to note, the hidden path to get the Lens of Truth is different for each day. And the Goron's role is actually the fastest way to travel in the game Also Owl dude is actually cool in this game and the others he has been in, except Ocarina of Time, that one kinda made everyone dislike him. Also also it is possible to break that rolling snow ball with bombs, it's just hard since it's moving, but it's not needed anyway.
So I like how Kaepora Gaebora's statements in Snowhead contradict his actions. When jumping toward the shrine, he tells you to not be deceived by appearances and to trust your feelings. Yet he leaves feathers behind to guide you there. Then he says the same thing, to trust your feelings, and then tells you to grab the magic magnifying glass that grants the user true sight. Anyhoo, now that we met Darmani, it's time to get REALLY dark. So you remember the Deku Mask? that weird tree that you see before going to Clock Town has a face that looks suspiciously like a Scrub's face. And when you talk to the Deku Butler, he says that you remind him of his son, who seems to have disappeared. It is heavily implied that the Deku Mask contains the soul of the Deku Butler's son, just as the Goron Mask contains Darmani's, and that the weird tree is his body, now a twist, empty husk. The manga, even if it isn't canon, gives this theory even more weight. After Link rescues the Deku Princess and defeats Odolwa, she asks him to put on the Deku Mask. As soon as she does, she starts crying and immediately excuses herself as the butler intones that Deku Link look almost exactly like his son. Speaking of masks, I hate how the Goron Mask look in this game. The head look like it's been stretched compared to the N64 version, which look more rounded, and it just looks unnatural. Speaking of the N64 version, there are some differences between how Darmani controls. In the N64 version, his punches have a considerable wind-up. While this help give them a sense of weight and power, it almost means there's a considerable delay between each strike, which makes butt slamming the bell atop the Stock Pot Inn a real pain. The 3DS version fixes this be making each attack about as fast as the sword, and though you lose that sense that those punches are wickedly strong, it does mesh a little better with Zelda's combat in my opinion. Also, I just now realized that the Goron's "shield" and the fact that he turns into stone when he does his earthquake stomp are direct references to those annoying enemies on Death Mountain in Link to the Past, the ones who turn to stone when hit and end up blocking your path nine times out of then. I don't believe they were called Gorons back then, but they certainly helped inspire the creation of the race we all know today.
Does Darmani’s gravestone also mention the fact that Gorons are lava-proof? Because the Snowhead Temple is primarily an ice dungeon, that fact is underused. It is likely that the player will forget it before it comes back to bite them in two places in the Stone Tower Temple.
Loved the little description here. As sad as the Goron mask is when obtaining it, the Zora mask is a lot sadder. Those who haven't see MM LPs before will find out once we go to the ocean; those who have know what I'm talking about. *starts playing New Wave Bossanova on her fishbone guitar* P.S. Happy 2018 Masae, wherever you are. And here's hoping the year to come is better than the last. P.P.S. Link and I have something in common: we're both freezing our butts off in the cold right now.
Masae, the third hit is not a butt punch. the screen shakes a bit when you "butt punch" towards it. almost like it's getting hit by a wave of... something. Like a gust of wind. Coming... from.... ...... ....actually, yeah, let's just say it's a butt punch and not think about it.
Why would anyone like the owl, he talks FOREVER! And the default response is "Please, never shut up as long as I f*cking live." As annoying as Navi is, she doesn't even ask you whether or not you want her to repeat what she says to you.
I think he's pretty cool. He's a troll, but one designed to pick on people for not listening to info that, at the time was probably pretty new to players. (This is an issue if you already know what he says, but if you know that you can also avoid his little trick. :D ) I mean, it'd be pretty annoying if people kept skipping your explanation of how to use a new feature and then whining about how they couldn't figure it out later. I think a lot of people get it too and just like to joke about it. Like the person who wrote on a 10 hr extension of his theme "Finally, someone posted a shortened version of this!' XD
I agree with you on Kaepora in this game - I think he's perfectly fine in Majora's, but I found him utterly annoying in Ocarina. And only a small part of it was due to the trap dialogues, it's also that a lot of his dialogues were overly heavy handed with the "hints" often downright screaming at you what to do (also that in a few places, he'll keep "camping" locations and talk to you multiple times until you progress far enough, even if you've talked to him already). I much prefer this game's system where if you need help on what to do, that's where the gossip stones help you, and Kaepora being a little less heavy handed overall.
Happy New Year, Masae, I'm a new sub and I already love watching your videos, so Happy New Year to you and your family and everybody who sees this comment.
its a bunny hood thing if i recall correctly. I believe in the original he also does that when wearing it, i think its to show the player that the bunnyhood makes all your jumps rolling jumps. I think
He still does it, but I think that it's a sorta chain jump thing. You have to jump like 2 or more jumps one after another to do it (i think). It's still there tho, ive done it.
keero kamiya Eh, that depends on the game you’re playing as in some you can clearly see them while homing attacking/spindashing. But if your talking about how visual presence then the goron form does take the cake. But imo sonic looks cooler.
if youre an adult you become a stalfos, if youre a kid you become a Skull Kid (which is funny since I find Skull Kids harder in OoT) also, some kind of protection is enough to repel the curse, otherwise Link would have become a Skull Kid long ago (divine protection of the Goddesses in this case) I mostly make that diferentiation since that missunderstanding leaded to the OoT Link becoming a Stalfos in TP theorie (that is wrong), Link simply died of old age its a similar curse to the twilight curse that make you a spirit, also, something I find interesting, when you find the Spirit of the Hero in the world, you find him as a wolf, and seeing that all that remains from him is a spirit, I find that interesting, so the way I see it, the Twilight curse did make Link into a Spirit, but failed to take his phisical body away, in other words, the spirit form of at least this timeline link is that of a wolf now the reason the lost wood curse didnt made anything to him is cause its weaker than the twilight curse (in my opinion) since one is changing the rules of the world and other is simply mutating the body
Too much of a tangent. Doesn't really relate to anything. Song of the woods where you're cursed to die. Played backwards it's a song that heals your soul. That's what I was referring to. It makes sense when viewed from a certain context.
Wrong again, it was in The Adventure of Link. That game had a designated button for jumping. And this game does NOT have one; jumping goes automatically.
In spirit: unique, strong, rugged, war-worn manly man Goron face.
In mask: same derpy acorn as everyone else.
I laughed
The True J-Bru yep
lol
Random Goron #1: Oh what a sad day, our hero Darmani has died, what should we put on his gravestone?
Random Goron #2: I don't know, maybe a description on how someone could use his body after his soul gets trapped in a mask.
Random Goron #1: WTF!?
You forgot to go VROOM VROOM when you were rolling around as a goron.
Remember? Twilight princess side quest for a tired goron?
Now the story with the Goron Mask and the Zora Mask has always hit me in the gut when you learn about what has happened to both Darmani and Mikau especially the latter when he tells you what happened to him in a song.

Pyro Angelo
That and his goodbye cutscene is really touching.

Whoa that is dedication so Kudos to you
We see so little of Darmani in the game, but what we do see is enough to leave an impact.
NeoDarkraiTV yep
NeoDarkraiTV you know he sacrificed his chance to go to the afterlife in order to be turned into the mask, right?
12:07 I totally just noticed, you can see the faint outline of the "iris" on the lens of truth when you use it!
When you said you thought the dog was "smashed," I thought you meant drunk at first. XD
I always thought the Song of Healing has a really sad and creepy concept. It can lift curses off of people but if a person is beyond help, it lulls their soul to peace by showing them illusions and of their loved ones.

Masae. ♥
Actually Masae you don't need to stay with him. You can actually head for his gravesite after talking to him and he will just appear there. At least that's how it was in the Original.
in the next episode we goron with the adventure. then we'll really be on a roll. dont punch out, or youll miss it!
I feel bad for the gorons D: They have been put in an icy situation D:
It's snow fun D:
Who ever froze them has a heart cold as ice
dmynerd78 I hope masae brought a lot of ice heals to thaw out the mountain
I guess you could say, they're on THIN ICE!!!
Karel Hnedkovsky I guess you can say who ever froze them has no chill at all
8:53- I'm so glad I played the original game and therefore know what's coming next.
Which gives me an excuse to laugh at Masae when she messes something up that I consider easy. If she messes up something that I consider hard, then she has my sympathy.
I think 3D made it so the "infinite Lens of Truth" trick would work less effectively.
Steel shield: Warmest thing ever.
The 2nd A.A. Buy it! Only 9,999 rupees!!
So warm, your skin just won't let go of it!
If you put it in a dryer maybe.
It's honestly crazy how this game makes silly races like Deku and Goron into something serious.
Or in this case, tragic and sad.
Fun fact!
You can impress the spirit of Darmani even more if you look at him in the dead of night, when his shadow doesn't appear.
Can you send a video?
Does it bother anyone else that Link can jump off cliffs so high that any normal person would have their kneecaps exploded from the drop?
21:16 - And today marks the first time I've ever noticed that "tutorial" rhymes with "memorial".
Looks like Canada in the winter.
But it's 2x more bearable there in the mountain.
Looks like canada in summer
Dont do kids Drugs looks like canada minus crime and bad healthcare
Canada has better health care than America. (Not that that's a high bar of entry.)
Being Canadian, I can attest to this. I also agree with you on the fact that it's more bearable on Snowhead Mountain. Just the other day it was -22C (-28C with windchill), too cold for it to snow. Currently it's -14C (-21C with windchill) and blizzard-ing.

Pi the Spy Icy what you did there
In the N64 version, I've always seen the goron's "butt punch" as more of a shoulder bash. It really is a butt punch in this game.

If you could have one of the transformation masks, what would you choose?
Bremen. I'd cause all kinds of parades
For what little we know of Darmani, he leaves so much to think about.
Awesome video Masae. Have a Happy New Year.
So, you remember how in the previous game the Gorons had a special crop of bomb flowers? That means they eat bombs, right? Try throwing that goron a bomb to eat. I remember he has a reaction to it.
Akuma Masurao Does it have to be any Goron, or just a certain one?
The one stuck on the waterfall that's complaining about an empty stomach and won't move until you give him something to eat.
Akuma Masurao huh? Never tried that before. Sounds cool.
Did they basically add a lot of the Japanese elements from the original Majora's Mask port?

Shade Knight Was the Goron transformation always that creepy? I don't remember if the eyes appeared to be gouged out in the N64 version.
It was.
Michael Hall yep. It was
Michael Hall
That goes for both the Goron and [spoiler] masks.
Shade Knight
I like this attack speed way better. Just because Darmani is big and heavy, that doesn't have to equal slow.
Does Darmani’s gravestone also mention the fact that Gorons are lava-proof? Because the Snowhead Temple is primarily an ice dungeon, that fact is underused. It is likely that the player will forget it before it comes back to bite them in two places in the Stone Tower Temple.
14:31- I remember how frustrated I was with my first attempts here.

P.P.S. Link and I have something in common: we're both freezing our butts off in the cold right now.
Luv ur videos Masae! Have a great new year!
Happy New Year Masae! I will be looking forward to watch more of your great videos next year
How fitting that this episode was released on a day when half of the country is basically frozen over.
Happy New Year Masae and everyone else!
Masae, the third hit is not a butt punch.
the screen shakes a bit when you "butt punch" towards it. almost like it's getting hit by a wave of... something. Like a gust of wind. Coming... from....
......
....actually, yeah, let's just say it's a butt punch and not think about it.
🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR MASAE!🎉
I hope you continue your Great content and keep making me smile like you always do!
Mikau's mask is the one that hurts me the most.
Best intro ever
why does Tingle always say "are you perhaps a forest fairy" like we've never met before?
Because we reset time since we last saw him, so to him this is our first meeting
Oh right right! lol I'm such an idiot I keep forgetting about the time AND events going backwards.
Wait until you get the scarecrow song, reset, and realize you have to go back to the scarecrow AGAIN just to teach him the song again.
"Yes, hello! I was wondering if you could play that song again!"
8:15 Finaly! Someone else who doesn't hate the owl!
Why would anyone like the owl, he talks FOREVER! And the default response is "Please, never shut up as long as I f*cking live." As annoying as Navi is, she doesn't even ask you whether or not you want her to repeat what she says to you.
Kazuichi Souda he helps you, he does NOT talk forever if you don't keep pressing A, I like Navi to, that's not the default response.
I bet he just has a bad reputation because of speedrunners whining about it. He really is helpful.
ShadowkingSonic Exactly!
Like the person who wrote on a 10 hr extension of his theme "Finally, someone posted a shortened version of this!' XD
well this video left off in...
HIGH SPIRITS
Have a happy New Year, Ms. Masae.
The goron said split rocks just in case you wanted to know why it sounded kinda weird
Split rocks. Spilt rocks. Split rocks. SPLIT ROCKS
Happy new year ❄
Happy New Year, Masae, I'm a new sub and I already love watching your videos, so Happy New Year to you and your family and everybody who sees this comment.
Happy new year, Masae!
Happy New Years
"No use crying over spilt rocks."
"-spilt rocks."
S-p-l-i-t rocks? No, s-p-i-l-t rocks!
(In all fairness it does LOOK the same lol)
2:41 - ...Did Masae just tell the Goron to eat himself?
4:37 Too bad his Rupee soul was a SOLE RUPEE :D
The reason breath of the wild Link can climb up mountains is because he saw Majora mask Link climbing up that cliff side with no help.
I just realized something. Does Link not do the little side-flip jumps like in the original?
its a bunny hood thing if i recall correctly. I believe in the original he also does that when wearing it, i think its to show the player that the bunnyhood makes all your jumps rolling jumps. I think
Oh, that makes sense. I'll have to try that next time I boot up the N64 version.
He still does it, but I think that it's a sorta chain jump thing. You have to jump like 2 or more jumps one after another to do it (i think). It's still there tho, ive done it.
Yes , great heroes uses A and B for the war XD
Happy New Year Masae!!
Derp 😂😂😂 put a bomb in front of him and he will come out when it hits it. Sorry for spoilers
Happy New Year
The Goron says "*split* (not "spilt") rocks.
Masae said spilt rocks when the tex said split rocks
Lets hope she realizes
Can I please have an endless gif of Link slipping? Like, set that to music and it's a really amazing dance. hahahaha
GORON PUNCH! ( yes you have to say it like that.)
My favorite Mask is here
Growing spikes if you spin fast enough, eat your heart out sonic
keero kamiya eh, isn’t it kinda the reverse. Sonic doesn’t need to go fast to grow spikes, he already has them
Yeah but he doesn't really show them while spinning.
keero kamiya Eh, that depends on the game you’re playing as in some you can clearly see them while homing attacking/spindashing. But if your talking about how visual presence then the goron form does take the cake. But imo sonic looks cooler.
I know Goron Link is attacking with he's back *butt* imagine that
Cool Video 😍
hi masae yay
I find hilarious that the Healing Song is basically Sarias Song in reverse
Saria's Song is the theme of the Lost Woods. In the Lost Woods if you don't have a fairy to guide you, you'll turn into a Stalfos. Makes sense to me.
if youre an adult you become a stalfos, if youre a kid you become a Skull Kid (which is funny since I find Skull Kids harder in OoT)
also, some kind of protection is enough to repel the curse, otherwise Link would have become a Skull Kid long ago (divine protection of the Goddesses in this case)
I mostly make that diferentiation since that missunderstanding leaded to the OoT Link becoming a Stalfos in TP theorie (that is wrong), Link simply died of old age
its a similar curse to the twilight curse that make you a spirit, also, something I find interesting, when you find the Spirit of the Hero in the world, you find him as a wolf, and seeing that all that remains from him is a spirit, I find that interesting, so the way I see it, the Twilight curse did make Link into a Spirit, but failed to take his phisical body away, in other words, the spirit form of at least this timeline link is that of a wolf
now the reason the lost wood curse didnt made anything to him is cause its weaker than the twilight curse (in my opinion) since one is changing the rules of the world and other is simply mutating the body
Too much of a tangent. Doesn't really relate to anything.
Song of the woods where you're cursed to die. Played backwards it's a song that heals your soul. That's what I was referring to. It makes sense when viewed from a certain context.
You guys need to learn english
manner classes are cheappppper
He said SPLIT rocks
Try Link Between Worlds pls
is it just me or does Gabora look like Ippon Datara from the Persona Series?!?!
How does the owl remember?
so for everyone who thought the first time link was able to jump was in breath of the wild wrong it was technically in majoras mask
Wrong again, it was in The Adventure of Link. That game had a designated button for jumping. And this game does NOT have one; jumping goes automatically.
Anyone else hate how the inventory looks in these games, honestly prefer the old look.
Unfriendly Snowball
Spilt rocks? Uhm... split rocks
Just a quick question after you finish majoras mask could you play a link between worlds
Only if you speak English
