Got a regular GK for wood work years ago and general tasks at home because I like the Mora HD type blade shape for things like that, you're pretty close to the work, you can beat the snot out of them and they don't break the bank. Liked the look of the OK4s handle when it came out so got one but you use whatever is your favourite knife of the time (usually an Enzo Trapper, very fond of that knife) so it didn't get used. Last spring just picked up the OK4 out the door in a rush going camping and have used it all summer. It's very good, comfortable grip, good sharpened spine, good steel and you can beat the snot out of it. I made a belt loop thing almost identical to the OK4s for the GK, I'm an obsessive backpack/rucksack modifier so had the kit needed to hand. Makes all the difference with these sheaths.

The nice thing about knives like the GK is they are screaming out to be modified. Expecially with them being so cheap. I also came up with a belt loop system very similar to the OK knives for a Mora classic as they ride too high on the belt for my liking and the plastic belt attachment always breaks. The OK4 really does have a very grippy handle. When it comes to practicality these knives are hard to beat, expecially if you take price into account.
Thanks for watching the video and for taking the time to leave a comment.

Had the OK4 out yesterday on a hike. Wonderful featherstick on some straight-grained white pine to start a fire that i let the rain put out. I actually put the 4 in the PK sheath for a little bit of simplicity, and just dangle it with a short loop of paracord. I have back up ferros and so much firemaking redundancy built in to day hikes, it's almost ridiculous, so the heavy 6" ferro rod that I HAD to have for the ok4 sheath---it stays home mostly. The OK4 is simply my hands-down, 100% favorite, as I may have mentioned one or two or five times. I took it down to zero on the first sharpening and did eventually chip it a little so now the GK is the designated "Batoneer." Never used the Mora HD or the Mora Robusto, but I've been so happy with the two Hults, never felt the need to try them out. And people who have those knives feel the same about the OK4, they're curious but already are happy with their Moras. I wish the world was more like people with their knife preferences---happy with their own---respectful of everyone else's choices.
So I started yesterday doing the "Play All" feature on youtube, letting Kuukkeli Bushcraft run all day. RUclips got wise and by nightfall, had stopped auto playing the playlist. Anyway, happy Easter if you observe it, "and "'ll see you all again for another Kuukkeli Bushcraft Video. Bye for now."

Happy Easter mate, I observe Easter alright, I observe that everyone is on holiday and out skiing while I am trying to get some peace and quiet outdoors 😂. Working in tourism, holidays aren't quite the same. It just means more work. I honestly believe that holidays should be observed (although tat is not possible for all of us). It's not just a religious thing it's part of our culture and heritage. Very interesting that the PK and the OK is actually the same sheath basically.
Thanks for watching my videos mate, there are really a lot of them 😂. Hopefully there will be another one by the end of the day.
      Thanks Chris

I have been using the OK 1 a lot more as you may have gathered from the video. But the OK 4 feels really good in the hand. Definitely comparable in performance to far more expensive knives. I am quite impressed.

Back in 2011 started the Bushcraft Associations and was looking for a strong budget knife for instructors and students alike. Hultafors send me the GK and I was convinced this was the knife that could take a beating by students. I was right and the Bushcraft Association became a Hultafors dealer. The focus on the GK but also had the HVK and RFR for people with smaller hands or preferred stainless. I did get a box of the ones with the rubber handle and they are comfortable but a bitch to clean after gutting some fish or small game. I don't like using my toothbrush for cleaning my knife and these solid plastic handles you can piss clean. I have sold many to students and never had a complaint. I myself am still using the one I was testing back in 2011. Also never seen a video of one breaking. I personally trust my life on the GK.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, I used my GK a lot and it never let me down. I also use Hultasfors a lot at work (where my knives really get misused) and I really can't fault them, expecially for the price. There really is no need to spend a lot of money on a knife.

@@KuukkeliBushcraft I noticed in Sweden the construction workers and carpenters were almost all using Hultafors. I was gonna visit Finland but something came up.
I always say the Hultafors (GK) is the 'all you need' knife when it comes to small camp knives. It's the 'all you want' knives that make it expensive. That being said the Finnish make some awesome knives also.
The all I need knives are a SAK Pioneer as pocket tool, the Hultafors GK as small camp knife and a Tramontina 10" (or 12") machete and I can survive anywhere in the world. Combined they are some 60 euro total.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft

I think with the extra belt loop the Hultasfors sheath isn't bad at all for a plastic Sheath. There are actually quite a few companies making these kind of plastic handled knives in the Nordic countries. I really think that Hultasfors is the only one that can compare to Mora.

Very good knives for the money, I think they give Mora some good competition. We have some OK4s in the local hardware store for 8 euros, on sale, the last ones of a small batch... Originally 19,90 euros. Bought two myself. One for my collection, one to be used as a beater... Think I've seen these go for like 20-25 euros online so not a bad deal at all.
Btw, spotted the Pirkka beer, lol. Glad to see you have adapted well here 😁

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 года назад

Definitely a bargain for 8 euros. I think that Mora knives do have nicer handles (except the basic models). I do think that with the belt loop with ferro rod holder they are on to a winner. Also not having to grind the spine down is nice. I think they compare quite favorably with the lower end Moras.
It's about the only beer I can afford in any kind of reasonable quantities 😂. After living in Spain for a few years, the price of alcahol here breaks my heart 😢.

Sounds like you got a good deal on them mate! Amazing how most of the budget fixed blades all look similar huh, cold steel, mora etc etc. even the sheaths are all similar. I think it just comes down to thickness of the steel and hardness that makes or breaks em as well as the grind. I have yet to find anything to touch(in the same price range) my cold steel knives with their 4116 steel or the sk5 steel. Sk5 is no joke man, that crkt I recently showed and the bigger cold steel...I cannot get it to ding unless I slam the edge on bricks or something LOL! Awesome review and Happy Halloween to you also mate, hope you had a good weekend.

An edge retention test between hultasfors sk5 and Moras 1095 might be interesting. The OK 1 is holding its edge fantastically well at work at the moment. Unlike my roach belly 😂. A lot comes down to heat treatment and edge geometry too though. That CRKT looks like a great little knife. Didn't quite get round to uploading in time for Halloween 😂. Because I noticed I had been saying OK2 instead of Ok 4. Glad I realized.

What better than a Mora😦.I definitely think that they are as good as a Mora. The heavy duty is really quite a tough bit of kit and great value for money. To my mind Moras are a bit more comfortable in the hand but I think hultasfors put that right with the ok 4.

@@iscariotproject there are a few others Lindsblom, kongsberg, Iivarin to mention a couple that I have come across that make cheap plastic handled knives. I think the difference is that they are not as good as Mora whereas I think Hultasfors are. Mora maybe has an advantage of actually first being a town that was famous for its knives and then having the two biggest making up Morakniv and having the combined resources of frosts and Eriksson. Just a thought, to be honest I have not really thought about it before. Also being promoted by a few well known people has got to help enormously.
