My dog is a certified Therapy Dog. She loves people and her usual way of interacting with her clients is to lick them. Most (not all) people enjoy her attentions and get a lot of enjoyment out of spending time with her.
That's so wonderful to hear! ππΎ "It's amazing how intuitive and loving therapy dogs can be, bringing so much joy and comfort with their presence. ππβπ¦Ί The fact that she expresses her affection through licks just adds to her charm! Keep up the great work, and hats off to your incredible furry therapist! πβ€οΈ"
While dogs do indeed have a far superior sense of smell, apparently humans have a better sense of taste.
That's correct! π½οΈ Humans generally have a more refined sense of taste compared to dogs. We have around 9,000 taste buds, which allow us to perceive a wide range of flavors like sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. Dogs, on the other hand, have significantly fewer taste buds, about 1,700, but their sense of smell, which is crucial for flavor perception, is vastly superior to ours. This incredible olfactory ability helps them "taste" food in a different way, through scent! ππ
I had a female Boston Terrier that would pick my face and try to force her tongue into my mouth. I learned that she was hungry when she did that. She wasn't always forcefull. I didn't reward her for the behavior. I would give it about thirty minutes or so before giving her a small snack. I think the behavior was instinctual. I also don't know if all dogs do this. She was the only one of mine.
My beautiful little girl went berserk licking literally everything the day before she came into her first season and hasn't done it since but she is partial to kisses x
"Awww, sounds like she was just showing her love in her unique way! πΎπ It's always fascinating to see how their little quirks come out, especially during such significant times. Sending lots of kisses back to your sweet girl! ππΆ"
