      Walmarts problem isn't with the fish, it's with the INEXPERIENCE of the people in charge of caring for them.

      Wouldn't it be nice if all big box pet stores had a system like this?
      I love my lfs because they put their "normal" bettas in community tanks ranging from 10-30 gallons and they all have their own sponge filter.
      They only have 5 "show" bettas at any one time in a custom divided long tank that gives each betta what looks like a little over a gallon. All with driftwood and live plants. It is fantastic compared to the betta cups in other stores. And their show bettas turnover weekly, so they only spend a few days in there at the most.

    Instead of letting the water go to the drain, why not send it through a 30/50 Liters plastics drum filled with filter media ? You could filtrate the water and run it in a closed circle doing automatic water change with a gardena watering clock.

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  6 лет назад +30

      Hello! Having a closed system is my ultimate goal, but finding a container which fits in my really narrow space is the only issue I’ve been having. Someone may have pointed out a really narrow trash can I could use though, I’ll have to go measure to see if that will work as a sump!

    • @eugene640
      @eugene640 6 лет назад +12

      You could have a look at waterproof barrels/container like the one used in kayak, a lot of them are smaller in height than industrial 30/50 Liters containers.

      A closed system would need some way to get rid of the nitrates. You would need to have a lot of plants with roots in the water such as in aquaponics.

That his first day me looking in his tank he kept swimming around and flaring at me lol and of course I did not know what that was so looked it up and he was trying to scare me. Now he picked me at Petco he was the only active one the day I went. Now I give him a few minutes with a mirror before feeding, sometimes after. Nathan said he has never had an active Betta like mine. I am so paranoid getting the bigger tank ready!!!

    Excellent system. However, the thing I don't like about these "water change" systems, is the waste of water down the drain. I haven't invented a system yet, but there has to be some way of cycling the water to your outdoors & watering plants and/or lawn.

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  6 лет назад +2

      Oh yes there is, in face I have heard that Goliad farms (they raise lots of livebearers and cichlids) in TX recycles their water through plants to such an extent that they don't even need to water change - they only need to replace water that was lost through evaportation!

      That is a really good idea to think on.
      Many fish keepers save “disposed” water for certain gardens, as the vitamins and minerals ate incredible...
      But to make something like a filter that cycles would be so genius

      Oh gosh, I HAVE TO save all my fish water to water house plants and outdoor plants too. I live in drought ridden California and we are on a well and it would kill me to waste a drop. Bernd Twiest its just temporary. She even retires her breeder bettas into bigger tanks when they're past their time.
      Good food, clean water- other than the lack of space she treats them very well, and again, its definitely temporary. Sadly, bettas have too many fry to be able to individually house them all.

    • @Beelzemonfan69
      @Beelzemonfan69 6 лет назад +7

      Bernd Twiest It is quite sad. But this is the best way to breed bettas and be able to actually make a profit unless you're a massive company, like some of the guys down in indonesia, as I believe some have ponds. At the same time, some of those companies keep bettas in half an average bottle of water.

    • @MrDanAng1
      @MrDanAng1 6 лет назад +8

      Yes, this is small tanks, but it is a grow out system, not permanent homes.
      However, I would suggest putting some paper or cardboard between the jars so the bettas view into each other is blocked, that would relieve some stress.

      I mentioned in the video this is a grow-out system for juveniles, not a long-term petkeeping solution. They're fine for the amount of time it takes to grow to adult size

    Love it. Have you ever seen those little beta aquariums that automatically suck everything off of the bottom and pump it out a tube on the side. You just pour water in the top and it pushes the waist and everything through the bottom, it would be cool if all your buckets drain the water through the bottom and that way all the waste could go down through there So you didn’t have to clean them off manually

    So sad, as a fish lover and a 35 years of having an aquarium i never understood why people do this. Putting a fish in a jar so cruel. thre should be a law against this. Its all about the money i guess.

      Nick Bergman betta breeders don’t have the space or money for proper tanks for all of them also, it’s temporary

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  6 лет назад +22

      @nick bergman I did explain it in the video Nick - male juvenile betta fish fish need to be reomved from their spawn when they mature so they don't tear eachother to shreds. Every betta breeder everywhere moves them into a container of some kind to finish growing. When a breeder has 3 maturing spawns and 50+ males to separate, what is the best, most humane thing to do? Give them each their own space with a water change system to guarentee clean, fresh water.

      You obvious know nothing about betta breeding and def not a regular follower of her channel. Any betta you own or have owned, likely came from a jar/bottle .

    • @vuurmolly
      @vuurmolly 6 лет назад +7

      I guess people kinda getting pissed about what i said . And i know what betta fish do when you put males together, they are very territorial and they will fight to the death. Many years ago they put these fish in jars in petstores to sell. Many people opposed to this. So they passed a law here in my country its called animal rights law wh
      ich forbids these kind of practices. Same as raising chickens or other farm animals for consumption putting as much as they can in to a square meter cage these animals got so stressed that they started killing each other cause it saves money. So don't think of me as a bad person its just the way i / we think here. Laws differ per country and its probably fantastic what this girl does and earning some extra cash, but illegal and cruel were i;m from. My apoligies if i offended anyone.

      the only places that can run out are deserts and places that don't have good water processing facilities.

    Thank you for sharing this video with us. I am too lazy to set up a system like yours, preferring to clean mine individually for 25 Bettas. Of course, your way is much better and will allow you to raise dozens of Bettas safely. With time, and the help of other fish keepers with similar setups, you will have your system working fine. Your Plakats look amazing! I can see you receiving offers on several of them. Have a great Summer and Happy Fish keeping to all.
