This is basically a poor man's versaspot dumbbell holder. Works pretty well. Only problem is you need to start in the bottom position for bench press, overhead press, etc.

Rob! Wow. You solved a problem I've been trying to figure out for several years. Thank you. I was actually able to rig it up without Endless Loops. Because there are so many length options on my hammock straps (they're similar to yours), I got it done with two straps and only two carabiners. I looped the ends of each strap around my dumbbells and then selected the right height with a carabiner. I have Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells so I can't throw them on the floor ;)

Bro...your a genius and a back saver. I threw my back out more than once while getting into position for heavy dumbbell presses (father time is catching up to me). Theres really not much out on the market if your looking for dumbbell spotters but I came across your video. Got this setup the other day and now I can finally press heavy again. Kudos to you sir.

Brilliant thank you for sharing. I've now been using this technique for a few weeks for heavy dumbbell shoulder press and incline dumbbell bench press. I had previously had a couple of injuries tearing parts of my shoulder and elbow issues off getting dumbbells into position. This is a game changer for me, thank you so much. Modded the method slightly adding carabiners to the straps and the hammock strap to make it easier to get the dumbbells into start position. Click carabiners together and good to go.

Hey, thanks. That's so smart. I was looking into making dumbbell holders just now for my bench press. I wanted to just make 4 shelves on the wall that would do the trick, but this solution seems even better.

    Actually another added bonus (maybe)
Would be to attach those dumbbell hooks that go around the handle
That hook over a say over an Olympic bar so that you can actually start the movement at arm’s length
And able to let hang using the straps in safety upon failing to re -hook.

That's the $64k question. I did then with 75 after shooting this. With this method, if you get up much past that, you're probably gonna have problems getting it around the DB (and back off again).
That said, I have some potential workarounds in mind for a version 2.

Great video - I grabbed hammock straps and tie down loop straps for a grand total of £13 amazon - found it tricky getting dumbbells up into position so have upgraded the solution a little by adding 4 x carabiner clips ..put two in place on the hammock strap at the required height. Loop the tie down straps around the dumbbell and attach other carabiner. To get in place just lift dumbbell and click carabiners together quickly ..job done. I use spin lock dumbbells so have the straps attached between plates so very secure and doesn’t get in the way of grip on the dumbbells.

The if you can't get it into place argument is stupid. When you barbell bench or do squats you don't lift the weight from the floor. Why are dumbbells any different? Why risk getting hurt trying to get dumbbells into place?
