Watching this again, I realized something: I bet there's a charged jump. I looked up a scan of the manual and, sure enough, you can charge jumps by holding down the button. Oddly enough, though, this info is on _the bottom of the very last page of the manual._ C'mon!
I loved Turtles but agree with every criticism he made. It was broken. Horrifying difficulty level, almost no relation to the cartoon. Good graphics and music though.
no the scariest line in the series is definitely “this is basically a shitty version of the virtual boy. Yes I Said That” not gonna lie my jaw dropped when I heard that line
You guys are acting like the AVGN makes objective reviews. His content is brilliant and hilarious. But it's satirical reviewing because he tries very hard to find flaws instead of being objective. So game devs wouldn't think much of it. Not to mention this is a mature, intelligent adult reviewing games made for teens
10:44- One of the funniest moments I've encountered in a video game. I mean, I understand how anyone would get frustrated by this, but the absurdity of it is just hilarious.
Looking back on this, I realized something: the game only registers jumping hits when Darkwing is in a VERY specific animation, and that's when he has both his arms and legs extended in front of him. That's the ONLY time a jump will successfully damage an enemy. If Darkwing is in ANY other animation when he makes contact with the enemy, even if it was from above, HE takes a hit. This is probably the most handicapped jump I've ever seen in a game. Does that happen in Mario? No, it doesn't.
Except that when a cat gets a new owner, it inevitably switches to a new litter box. When LJN was acquired by Acclaim, it kept on making NES games. So the metaphor really falls apart.
I think this version of the AVGN theme song is my favorite. It strikes the perfect balance between the primitive earliest recordings of it, and the bombast of the more newer ones. The drums sound cool, and the vocals feel more on key than on some versions.
This is such a great episode, the humor and writing are really on point. And visually it’s great as well, in quality and in physical performance/editing.
This game changes it's rules constantly! To get the D at the beginning, sometimes you can bounce off of the jewel you collect and get it. Other times you can't. Depends on what mood the game is in.
I like how the intro was a mashup of the old intros. Nothing better to end my week than an episode of AVGN :). I'm glad that after spending years and years on a movie, he can finally focus more on his channel series.
Mine came with the awful Keith Courage (Frank at the flea market! :p). The title music was too good for this game. It was the best part about it. Splatterhouse was great.
Hey James! It turns out in order to jump on enemies, you have to press the jump button SLIGHTLY before you hit the enemy. Still stupid but jumping still works.
Critically Red I agree, I think it was because he was missing his anger, angry is in his title and he wasn't really angry in the past few episodes, this felt like one of the earlier ones.
overtkill7 James has been doing the AVGN character for nearly ten years. It must be pretty hard pretending to be so angry so it's understandable if not all videos are ridiculous amounts of rage.

***** He hasn't covered too much stinkers on the N64/Playstation/Saturn, he could venture into that territory. Of course, there's still some shitty games left in the more retro consoles.
That's a great idea. Jontron did a recent episode on Disney bootlegs which was very funny, and I felt he was channelling AVGN in certain parts for some reason
Again, great idea :D Should definitely be a future episode I think. He has done weird games before (eg Little Red Hood) The part in the Jontron episode where he focused on the lion "ass wiggling" animation set to "Bare Necessities" felt like AVGN to me and really made me laugh :D xD
grimTales1 Well, if you can't beat 'em... JOIN 'EM. I actually remember clicking the video to bring me back to where I left off and it started RIGHT at that scene. XD
+brolylss01 he should do multiple Toy Story games. Toy Story 2 on PS1/N64/Dreamcast/PC was actually really great. Although if you've ever played the Dreamcast version you will notice one of the weirdest fucking control quirks ever. On the dreamcast version of TS2, no joke, the analog stick only moves Buzz in diagonal directions, while the D-pad moves Buzz only in vertical/horizontal directions. If you don't know to use the D-pad, you'll start playing with the Analog stick and be flipping direction all over the place trying to walk steady. At best you'll be able to walk in a zig zag. That is seriously one of the weirdest control schemes I've ever seen.
The PS1 version might be the only one I didn't play. I rented the N64 version, owned the PC version, and bought the Dreamcast version recently because I lost the PC one. PC was generic keyboard controls but it ran alright. N64 was great, but the Dreamcast one had the best graphics and it also had fully rendered out cutscenes of the film which I don't know if the PS1 version or PC version had that? But I know the N64 version just had still pictures of the film with text. The Dreamcast version was the best technically but the control scheme is such crap that if you don't use the D-pad, it cripples the gameplay, and using the Dpad is awkward compared to the N64 analog.*****
I would bet that the LJN games were more "red ". Maybe some of them are "so bad so good". Aaaanyway, we're always talking 'bout shit, so... whatever :) Great video :D
PLAYERINSIDE Playerinside "portavoce" dell ' Italia per AVGN ? Pothebbe essere, come pothebbe non essere // Btw, James, great video, nice to see you cover some TG16, but , as said, there isn't much shit on it, it definitely is a gem of a console that only recently gained the attention it deserves
LJN made so many games that some of them must be at least "not bad". It's the rule of the big numbers :) Anyway, I agree with the AVGN: there's always something worse than LJN.
About getting the 'D' at the start, I noticed that there was a "No Loitering" sign next to it... Perhaps the test was that you can't actually get the 'D' at all?
How dare you attack the TurboGrafx-16! It had NO bad games on it! Well besides this one. But that's it! OK, Battle Royale is pretty bad too. And then Deep Blue is a weird fish shooter that's better left unspoken of. But hey, it's still got a good batting average!
7:49 and also 7:53 Not only does the game register him as getting hit, it's self aware. It recognized that it fucked up and tried to cover it's tracks by re-placing him under the sandbags. The game saw that he was in-between them, went back, and tried to pull a fast one on the nerd by putting him under them. And it worked! AVGN didn't even comment on it, like it must've slipped past his shitdar. Yeah, shitdar. A shit radar.
Not mentioned, but I love how when you get hit by the sandbags, the game literally moves you over so you're hit, even though you were standing between them until that point.
To me the weirdest thing about this game is that it’s a side scroller that only goes to the left on some levels. You almost never see that. Usually it’s either just to the right or you go both ways over the course of the level
Man, you're just so charming with how you drag stuff through the mud. You're probably the only guy on RUclips who could pretty much drag everything I've ever liked in video games, and I'd still laugh in good spirits. XD

Someone should place every single game the Nerd has reviewed, into the shit scale. That would be fucking useful.

but these one in may, 5,6,7 three month we need more NERD
it takes alot of time for James to make the Nerd episodes especially if it's a really in depth one (like R.O.B The Robot or Super Mario Bros.3)
***** He has just made a new one :D
***** He hasn't covered too much stinkers on the N64/Playstation/Saturn, he could venture into that territory. Of course, there's still some shitty games left in the more retro consoles.
10:10 "I don't know what kind of f**ked up duck can't f**kin duck" still funny after 5 viewings
now he should review bootleg video games.
Awesome idea.
That's a great idea. Jontron did a recent episode on Disney bootlegs which was very funny, and I felt he was channelling AVGN in certain parts for some reason
Again, great idea :D Should definitely be a future episode I think. He has done weird games before (eg Little Red Hood)
The part in the Jontron episode where he focused on the lion "ass wiggling" animation set to "Bare Necessities" felt like AVGN to me and really made me laugh :D xD
grimTales1 Well, if you can't beat 'em...
JOIN 'EM.
I actually remember clicking the video to bring me back to where I left off and it started RIGHT at that scene. XD
He has played some but not much his bible games had the most bootleg
I kind of wanna see the AVGN review Toy Story on SNES/Genesis. That game is really hard for no good reason. It's a movie based game, NOT BY LJN!
BassbaitGG I had that game for PS1, so the Dreamcast sounds like the worst version lol
I had no problem getting through that game days after I got it, and I was probably 10 years old at the time...
+brolylss01 That was not a hard game

"GET THE F*** UP THERE!!!"
Let me repair your comment "Get The Fuck Up There!"
KaZaM's Gaming or flop

James: "How could I be casual when I say *skateboarding penguins*"
Also James: *casually explains a hippo muck-spreading without laughing*
I would bet that the LJN games were more "red ". Maybe some of them are "so bad so good". Aaaanyway, we're always talking 'bout shit, so... whatever :)
Great video :D
PLAYERINSIDE Salve!
Non immaginavo che foste dei fan del Fottuto Nerd!
Da sempre.
PLAYERINSIDE
Playerinside "portavoce" dell ' Italia per AVGN ?
Pothebbe essere, come pothebbe non essere
//
Btw, James, great video, nice to see you cover some TG16, but , as said, there isn't much shit on it, it definitely is a gem of a console that only recently gained the attention it deserves
PLAYERINSIDE Maximum carnage is a good LJN game. not a master piece but certainly not bad.
LJN made so many games that some of them must be at least "not bad". It's the rule of the big numbers :)
Anyway, I agree with the AVGN: there's always something worse than LJN.
I'm surprised Superman 64 boxart wasn't sitting on that scale. Wonder where that would sit....
Probably in the "severe" zone, with Wizard of Oz & Tiger games.
@@beauwalker9820 Considering how broken the game is, can it even be considered a game? Lol.
About getting the 'D' at the start, I noticed that there was a "No Loitering" sign next to it... Perhaps the test was that you can't actually get the 'D' at all?
It seems like you can just charge your jump.
10:42 Is that seriously what happens when you just have him stand there?
been watching avgn since youtube started. to this day i find myself still enjoying every episode
How dare you attack the TurboGrafx-16! It had NO bad games on it! Well besides this one. But that's it! OK, Battle Royale is pretty bad too. And then Deep Blue is a weird fish shooter that's better left unspoken of. But hey, it's still got a good batting average!
7:49 and also 7:53
Not only does the game register him as getting hit, it's self aware.
12:33 Then we have Dr. Jekyll, and Mr. Hyde... Enough said. 🤣
What about a Neo Geo game? You haven't reviewed one of those yet.
Show With No Name i don't think he's found a shitty neo geo game yet
Try legend of success joe (based on the legendary manga/anime ashita no joe) and have some nice nightmares
lol, I like how they just flipped the jumping animation for the dying one.
"I guess I'm not able to reach that D"
Woah there nerd, stop telling everybody my life story.
Ember Silver
Lol that was secret innuendo
i see that protogen profile pic
@@foxwithguns :3
The penguins won't come when you are anywhere near the D.
@@embersilver3448 I be happy to help u with that problem lol
At minute 2:58 that’s my dad! He used to work there! At turbografx! He was the guy you would call if you got stuck on a level!!!
At the end I felt like he was about to say “I’m the nostalgia critic I remember it so you don’t have to”
Let's get the cast of Darkwing Duck to play this 16-bit compost heap. :)
I can't stop watching avgn over and over again. Please never die before me
Not mentioned, but I love how when you get hit by the sandbags, the game literally moves you over so you're hit, even though you were standing between them until that point.
it's a glitch, and a very bad one, at that.
To me the weirdest thing about this game is that it’s a side scroller that only goes to the left on some levels. You almost never see that. Usually it’s either just to the right or you go both ways over the course of the level
11:53-13:01.; I learned something new.
Man, you're just so charming with how you drag stuff through the mud. You're probably the only guy on RUclips who could pretty much drag everything I've ever liked in video games, and I'd still laugh in good spirits. XD
Underappreciated episode where we get a flurry of quick reviews to start love those episodes nice touch
10:37 ROFL, don't you just love how the ducks looking at you directly, it's like he's saying "You know i'm so fucked in a second, right?" XXXD
