- Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman announced his retirement in a video shared on social media Monday evening.
"Nothing in my career has ever come easy and, no surprise, this isn't going to be easy either," Edelman said in his retirement video. "I've always said I'm going to go until the wheels come off, and they finally have fallen off.
"It was a hard decision, but the right decision for me and my family -- and I'm honored and so proud to be retiring a Patriot," he added.
The announcement came after the Patriots terminated Edelman's contract following a failed physical.

Without a doubt, he gave everything he had to give. The kind of guy that drives others to championships. Was fearless which makes me glad he’s walking away now. Though Patriot nation will miss him, he will never be forgotten.

While small in statue you were bigger than most in heart a blue collar athlete that never gave up and never surrendered a college Q.B. converted into a quick, fast and tough wide receiver you worked your tail off and made yourself become an elite weapon in a sport filled with world class athletes. So many great plays on the highlight reel my favorite as probably the case with many in Patriot nation The Catch in superbowl LI just ridiculous!
