Thank You! This video is exactly what I needed. I just got an old Kodiak with this exact shifter. I could not figure out how to operate it. Your information was especially helpful saying to put it in 1st gear. I have to press the foot brake to shift into reverse on mine. The reverse cable needed some adjusting but thanks to you.... it works.
Thanks for the video on shifting. Best one I've found for the Grandkids to learn, especially like the view of throttle thumb. I have the same 2000 beartracker and other quads, hard to teach shifting nowadays, even some adult kids, lol. Change oil, clean air filters and run ethanol free gas, these things last for many many years. Mine are 89 230 suzuki quadrunner, 2000 beartracker and 2001 kodiak 400. Great way to raise kids n grand kids!
Thank You! I just got an old Kodiak with only 250 miles and could not figure out how to drive the thing. You saved me a lot of time and aggravation. Mine is exactly like this.
Well that answered the one question I've been searching for that nobody else seemed to be able to answer. so you still have to let off the gas without pushing in a clutch because it doesn't have one while shifting. take will take some getting used to. Can't wait to get my new frame. And swap all the guts.
The shifter basically doubles as a clutch lever and shifter doing both at the same time. Might not be 100% correct on that but that’s the simplest way I can explain it. If you pull the shifter up and hold it you can rev the engine without anything happening as if you were in neutral (or holding the clutch in on a manual car/quad) and if you slowly let the shifter back down you can feel the clutch engaging.
@@ozarktroopersoutdoorclub6901 also my arctic cat 500 atv doesn’t go into reverse when the engine is off? Is it because there’s no oil on the gears when the engine is off or is the revere gear in the transmission broken cuz idk.
Any ideas???

Best video I have found on this topic. Thank you for explaining it so well and simply, I learned a lot!
Just got given an old beartracker off the farm, 100% what i needed to know about it, thanks a bunch.

Great video, thank you for taking the time to make this
Thanks for the video . Definitely helped out a lot
This is so sick I think my papa has the same four wheeler and I was wondering how to do the revers
Thanks this is helpful and concise!!!
You don’t gotta let all the way off the gas just enough to slow down
Thank you this helped a lot😁
I love your channel
I'd love an explanation of how this mechanism works without completely detonating if you know!

Good video thanks!
Do you accelerate while you shift up gears ? That’s where my riding is bumpy
Dumb question I guess but how do you know what gear you have it in
New Honda recon owner here. Still learning how to get used to downshifting. Any tips anyone can recommend? I keep jerking when downshifting.
So you don’t have to let off the gas while you shift
What they don’t tell you is let go of the gas before you shift because my first time doing it I almost flipped it
Nice video brotha

Is a Yamaha Kodiak 400 1993 a non clutch?

What are the fastest automatic 4 wheelers
Anything above 600cc don’t waste your time on automatics lower than that.
Is this a semi automatic?
If I am in 5th gear and want to slow down can I just let off the gas and click all the way down to neutral and then brake?
Depending on the circumstances. If you need to stop immediately then press the brake and shift down. If you are just cruzing, you can do that. 👍🏻

💯 agree
Amen✝️🙏
I’m just watching this cause my wheeler started shifting bad and stalling
This transmission is also commonly referred to as a semi automatic transmission. My fourwheeler also has one.
Thank you. I will correct myself next time. 👍🏻

Man, that I can’t answer. I’ve never really been around artic cats. I would look on some different Atv forums.
You don’t know how to drive that correctly. You are gonna hurt yourself if you drive like that
That's exactly how to drive a Yamaha bear tracker I know because my uncle had 2 2004s 250 bear trackers and he taught me thats how to drive them.
Would you like to elaborate on that? As far as I could see he did nothing wrong.
is it an auto clutch or is that different?? 🥲
