- Dan Silveira - avid diver, spearfisherman, kayaker, and sponsored athlete for Omer, Sporasub, Divers Dlite, and Liquid Image has created this spearfishing video called "So-Cal Spearfishing" showcasing incredible captures of California White Seabass and Halibut while free dive spearfishing. my favorite spearfishing video of all time
My average breath hold when I am hunting is about 2 minutes. but I have made very deep dives for up to 4 min. My longest static is 6:30min.
Dan you need to make more vids bro. We love watching em!
Another excellent video. Great work Dan.
Everyone has different taste when it comes to music. Turn the volume of the video down and play the song you like from your computer and you will have the music you want.
Love the opening song. Set the mood just right. Perfect shot at 3:17
I'm so going to be doing this when I get old enough.
BLOODY GREAT STUFF WELL DONE
CAVEMAN AUSTRALIA
Incredible video!
Still can't believe this and keep coming back to watch re-runs! Many of you know this, but on 2 August, Dan became the US National Spearfishing champion. He won, his team won, he shot the biggest fish in the competition and scored a world record CA Lingcod!
Sick stone shot. Awesome vid as usual.
This is video is this awesome!
Ya l understand completely. sweet videos can't wait to see the next!
Nice video bro! Can't beat the local islands and So. Cal. beach diving.
Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks!
Great video!
Yes, in tropical places like florida, Fiji, and Bali.
Thanks, I am stoked you enjoyed the video!
NIce Vid....thx for sharing
Yes, that is the tip I am using. I have it in 6mm thread for the thin euro shafts.
I had a party for my friends and family. We cooked it and made ceveche. It was amazing!
This was a GREAT video, Reminds me of Santa Barbara diving. I'm going to be getting back in the water soon, mid part of next month, I got too fat, gota get back in the water and lose it all.
I am not sure that I understand, but I am glad you liked the video.
I have been using the Sporasub One 80m virtical reel with the 2.2mm red Marco Bardi O.ME.R line.
Reels are more complicated than float lines, therefore, you need to practice using them before attempting to handle a large game fish.
I use reels for anything under 80 pounds. After that, I use a buoy and a line.
very nice video
Thanks for the kind words. I still teach freediving, but due to my very busy schedule, I have had to limit my classes to about 5 public classes and 5 private classes per year.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Dan!
Is this the coast of Catalina island?
Looks like , I went there nearly 2006, nice to spear among this new scenario, I`m usually doing spearfishing in Mediterranean Sea and by traveling for my job, I`ve also met the Pacific ocean and part of the Atlantic.
Quite different environment but very attractive.
Got subscribed.
Anyway nice revival, cheers for sharing,
bahaha @ the Hitchcock style braining on that first runner, and nice video!
Thanks for the kind words Manny.
nice dude nice
Hey man... amazing seabasses! How far is that spot from Santa Barbara?
Also, iMovie and final cut pro has a color correction wheel that can manipulate the footage if needed.
I hunt mostly between 15' and 60' in Cali. In other places around the world, I dive to depths approaching 150'. I have encountered 3 GWS over the 20+ years of being in the water. None of my encounters were threatening. It is always a risk, but for the most part, the risk is low if you are smart about where you dive.
Honestly, you may want to consider taking a class from Freediving Instructors International. I am an instructor for them, and the curriculum in proven to dramatically increase divers abilities.
that is a very nice kniife
Like allways another great vid and music,do you know any good places to spear in FL?
Do you ever ever get sketched out when you first enter the water? I know i can never do that, im scared looking into the kelp in LJ from my kayak.By the way, awesome video.
1:56 Hell yes!
thanks for the info , you truly inspire me , do you still teach freediving classes , ive been diving for 5 years and wana take it to the next level
This is the O.ME.R 115 cm enclosed track euro gun with two 5/8" bands.
I took a class with Martin Stepanek from Freediving Instructors International.
really enjoy you video!
i learn heaps from your dives!
just wondering what speargun are you using? i noticed that you have the sporasub reel..
I'm using the riffe euro 120....
is this typical vis for southern california? and awesome video.
dan, what is the best speargun for beginners like me? is the brand mares is good enough? what do you recommend? though, I have one built before when I was still in the philippines
Yes, you can, but it takes some slight modifications. I am sure it would also void any warranties of the reel.
sick video man! all ur videos are getting me really into this sport. I live in Salinas, did ur dad used to be a contractor here by any chance??
hey dan your such a great freediver and spearo great vid by the way so i was woundering how did you get such a great down time every one tells me to just practice alot but iv had a down time of only 1:15 for a year now plz help
Wow, now is just unbelievable for me, but think more practice can help ;)
7:12 wow Daniel Silveria.... Was that a shot from the surface??? Tisk tisk
JK, you're a baller
Great video. How much of a hassle is the kelp once the fish is shot? IE. tangling
hey Dan, is that the Omer toggler slip tip? Also, what size shaft are you using?
I really want the benefits of a slip tip on a euro styled gun, but don't want to throw off the accuracy/ balance of the shaft. thanks!
The Liquid Image camera mask has color correction, but sometimes I use a red filter.
This was in Southern California
hey man nice vid! What size reel do you prefer for wsb and yt? line diameter? Thanks!
I like to use qpower 600lb kite line: kiteboarding.com/proddetail.asp?prod=q-powerline_pro_spool
For my reel I like the sporasub one 80m reel: www.sporasub.com/usa/one5080_usa.asp
Bad assed MAN!!!!!! Nice breath control!!! Im in AZ would like to go spear some fish!!!
Stripers on the River Below the Hoover Dam Trade Trip With Ya!! Or Anyone
What type of reel/line do you use? I'm kinda stuck between using a float or a reel. What do you recommend?
Dan do you use any filters on your under water shots or do you color correct in post. What do you use if you do either or both. Thanks
Hi Dan good vidéo
please the name of the music and thank you :)
Hey Dan, I am a freediver myself. Have not yet started to spearfish. What depths are you spearing at? Have you ever seen great white sharks while your in the water? I heard they were not much of a bother. Great videos!
all ship wrecks and artificial reefs are good places to spearfish. Look online and in books for gps locations on the spots.
what is the length of the gun that you use in this video, im lookin to buy a wsb gun
thanks!
Do you ever have problems with fishing line in the kelp? or are u far enough away from the shore?
hey what sliptips do you reccomend?
How long did it take to get all of this footage?!
What length is that omer railgun?
What part of californis was all this diving inn??
Any chance of sharing where
in so cal you are diving?
do you know what months those classes are ?
Is this farther south than palos verdes?
how did you learn to hold your breath for so long?
What did you do w/ all the fish?
Dan, how long can you stay underwater in one breath?
how long can you hold your breath?
was this filmed with a go pro? How come you didn't buy the underwater housing? It looks blurry underwater
Music Credits are at the end of the video.
what are these fish like to eat?
No, my dad is not a contractor. He is a piping detailer. Thanks for the kind words.
I would love to tell you, but it might offend some local divers. For that reason I cannot tell you. I am sure you can understand.
name of song?
6:30 min
00:44 What is the name of this fish
it's an angel shark
Sporasub, Alexandar, or Mori.
2:02 O.O
Sharks eat seals, so I try to be smart and not dive areas with lots of seals, especially if the visibility is poor.
You are fucking epic.
have u ever had sharks roll up on u when u were spearing fish because of the blood in the water?
I posted it to our FBpage awesome catch. socalfishkillers Like us on facebook
Great video, but obnoxious music. I can't understand why people use frenetic music to accompany the serenity I feel in a kelp bed.
This is the O.ME.R 115 cm enclosed track euro gun with two 5/8" bands.
