Johnny was 68 years old when he sang this... He did voice exercises every day because he loved his audience. There is no one who compares to this great singer/man.

I've heard Johnny Maestro sing this song in person too many times to count. I can't move a muscle when he would sing this song. Your voice was a magical voice. I've loved it for 40 years and will love it the rest of my life. I know your with Jesus now. I know you'll be singing to the Lord with that beautiful voice. I thank God for the gift He gave you and how much you shared it with your fans. See you in heaven Johnny. I'll miss you so much.

Never thought that anyone could sing this song but Bobby Hatfield.
But Johnny can & does sing as well or better than anyone I've ever heard in my life!
If I had to live on the difference of who sings this song better - I'd be dead!
I can only imagine him (Johnny M) singing this song when he was truly in his prime.
I can only say that I miss you both, but your voices will remain with me forever.

That amazing voice just kept "giving" unaffected by age, to the millions of fans. Johnny's emotional renditions of every song changed at each concert appearance. He had the ability to push himself vocally and with styling changes to outdo himself, with Johnny being his own critic. All audiences got their money's worth. Rest in Peace!

Eat your heart out Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee, you should be ashamed for not inducting Johnny by now. Johnny's name has been considered many times by the R&RHOF Foundation's nominating committee in New York, but has never received enough votes to make the final ballot.

Saw Johnny and the BB on at Wall St and Broad on the steps of the Federal building under the statue of George Washington. It was 1968 or 69. They were having sound equipment problems. Johnny sang without a mic. The power of his voice so fantastic, you could see the crystals on the JP Morgan chandelier shake. Truly a gifted voice. Got to meet Johnny later in life as it turned out his brother-in-law worked with me when we were cops at the old Rahway State Prison. Johnny performed a couple of times at benefit fundraisers for our union, the NJPBA. In person, Johnny was one of the nicest guys you could meet.

I HAVE HEARD HIM DO THIS SONG SO MANY TIMES. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT HIS ORIGINAL HIT I FELT HE DID IT SO WELL THAT IT WAS ALMOST LIKE HIS SIGNATURE SONG. EVERYBODY ALWAYS LOOKED FOR WARD TO HEARING HIM SING IT AT HIS CONCERTS. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH A TALENTED MAN WHOSE SONG "SIXTEEN CANDLES" WAS MOST CERTAINLY ONE OF THE TRADEMARK SONGS OF THE ROCK N ROLL ERA. HAD TO DIE TO FINALLY GET INDUCTED IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME. YET GROUPS LIKE THE SEX PISTOLS HAVE BEEN IN FOR YEARS.
