I got to meet Johnny at Trudy B's in Freeport, NY back in the early '80's. I mentioned Welcome Me Love was my fav song EVER and he graciously gifted me an autographed tape. 2015, STILL my fav song EVER! RIP Johnny, until we meet again.
There are no words to describe how great this guy was I had the honor of seeing him in person , and also seeing Gary Puckett , two of the greatest voices of all time RIP JOHNNY
I was working as a DJ in a bikers bar when a barmaid named Barbara came into my both and said "do you have any Brooklyn Bridge" with you. I just came from a wedding and I did. So I was brave and took a break from the southern rock music that most of the crowd wanted and played the song for her, Welcome Me Love. Well needless to say she made me very happy later. The bikers left! We will always have his music and this was one of his best ever.
musicmaker1999 had it right. Johnny knew he was tallented but he was a humble gentleman and did not need to complain about not being in the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame. He sang because he was given a gift and he loved entertaining his fans. Why they have overlooked him all these years is not understood by many, but if he is not inducted soon, then the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame is a Farce!
Let's write to the Rock n Roll Hall of fame and petiton him on. That he is not there yet is a crying shame. How many singers can still have a sound this good.
Saw Johnny & BB on Monday night at Resorts in AC. What a show. This man has a voice that is a gift from God. Had a seat right next to the stage; the only thing better would have been center stage. I'll try for that the next time.
Johnny Maestro and Jay Black didn't lose one iota of their talent as they got older, and they never disappointed the audience. How many of today's "stars" will be doing as well when / if they reach their golden years?
Johnny Maestro truly had one of the best voices ever. My wife and I saw him too many times to count, and NEVER got tired of hearing him sing. My wife passed in March, now she can hear him sing in heaven.
The greatest voice in history of rock and roll and not in the R&R Hall of Fame. What a travesty!!! Look at this man's body of work over fifty years with some of the most recognizable songs. the R&R H of F is a joke. Don't forget it took them fifty years to induct the great Darlene Love. The joint belongs in Cleveland.
you can help by signing this! feel free to share :) love Johnny. nobody could sing like him. www.gopetition.com/petitions/induct-johnny-maestro-the-brooklyn-bridge-the-crests-into-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame.html
I just heard of your passing now Johnny! Tears are falling from my eyes! I have admired your voice for so many years! I`ll will always be one of your many fans!
Ive lost a tiny piece of my soul. I still remember the first time I saw Johnny Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge at the WCBS-FM 15th Anniversary concert. It was magical. I went to see him in small clubs in Brooklyn, outdoor concerts like the ones at the World Trade Center anywhere I could see him. Each time, it filled my heart and brought me so much joy. Thank you Johnny, for your wonderful music and your magical voice. Rest in peace as you sing for the angels. Im sure theyre listening in.
Why isn't this man in the rock n roll hall of fame. People please write in and let them know. I just got back from Cleveland Ohio. Some groups are there that shouldn't,and others that should be there are not. Very sad.
I saw Johnny perform his final concert at Mohegan Sun.....and as sick as he was, he sounded better than ever.......a true artist and person....I will always miss him!!!
Johnny maestro, How I miss this great singer. I am still broken hearted that he is gone, there was nobody like him. He belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
You just can't explain the talent...so many years...I saw him perform several times and I never got enough.....RIP Johnny....We will never forget !!!!!
This song brings chills of wonderful memories. I play this for folks and none have ever heard it and they all fall in love with it before it ends. How did this not become a huge hit? Both sides of the single were great. Thank you, Johnny.
Yes, he has more to offer and more accomplishments than most members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.... Politics? Favoritism? If induction were based on talent, accomplishments, and how a Rock and Roll artist touched others, Johnny would have been inducted long ago.
Johnny Maestro... what can you say.. possibly the best of all lead singers and any group along with Jay Black Raise on this music and to this day.. the very best!
Just fabulous! Johnny, your music goes on, and you ARE remembered. You will always be one of the best voices ever, and we will miss you. Rest in peace now, and thank you......Marilyn
I will always love this band. I was only 12 when the self titled 1968 LP Brooklyn Bridge was released. How could this track not have been a big hit. Well to many us it was and is. The single was a double sided radio hit with "Blessed Is The Rain" Both ranking in the top 50 of 1969. Johnny's voice soars with beauty. The Brooklyn Bridge marches on in music history! Johnny Maestro (RIP) Fred Ferrara (RIP) Richie Grando (RIP)
There are a lot of things in this World I just do not understand. But, at the top of my list is this incredible voice not being in the Rock & roll Hall of Fame.
@SigiJoe I totally agree with you. His voice was the best there ever was and no one can come close. I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Maestro 3 times these past few years and it wasn't enough. He is missed very much. I wish God couldve left him with us a "little" longer. kendallsmum8
@FATSOFOGARTY This is one of the greatest songs of the 60's. I played it on the radio when I was a DJ on WSVB FM in Tamaqua PA. Many people asked, why aren't you playing "FM Music?" Go fm radio, and James W. Reichard for letting us do it since June 14, 1965. You were a visionary. You saw this coming. Dr. jsfogarty (not fatsofogarty)
Amazing this man never had a major label record deal. His associated acts just drifted around labels like: Coed? Lana? Eric? End? Laurie? BT Puppy? Diamond? and Buddah? Yeah, Columbia stepped in briefly and did nothing. The voice, the consistent quality of songs, his longevity in the business, sold millions of records beginning with "16 Candles", the magic in his name alone. Yet, nothing from the majors. His music is still jukebox favorites if you can find a jukebox. What were the executives thinking? I'm talking to you Clive Davis, David Geffen, Ahmet Ertegün, Mo Ostin, Lenny Waronker. What happened? Yet still...today, no R&R Hall of Fame huh? That is one big blemish on their credibility. The majority of people at the R&R Hall of Fame probably don't even know who Johnny Maestro is and that's sad.
+yankeerebel65 Hi Yankeerebel65. This video was shot at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts (aka Colden Center/Auditorium) at Queens College, Flushing NY. Hope that helps.
Way, way overdue for the Halll of Fame. Listen you dweebs.....Blondie is in the Hof F! Personally, I think JABB is not in the H of F because they are still a vibrant, great live act. Yah, I know...it's stupid.
I got to meet Johnny at Trudy B's in Freeport, NY back in the early '80's. I mentioned Welcome Me Love was my fav song EVER and he graciously gifted me an autographed tape. 2015, STILL my fav song EVER! RIP Johnny, until we meet again.
And so many people still don't know who Johnny Maestro is. To those of us who do.....raise your glass for a toast to the best! RIP, John!!!
There are no words to describe how great this guy was I had the honor of seeing him in person , and also seeing Gary Puckett , two of the greatest voices of all time RIP JOHNNY
What a voice and sound sensation! What a wonderful guy and group! You will be missed to the end of time!

I really miss this man and his music.
Johnny Maestro and Jay Black didn't lose one iota of their talent as they got older, and they never disappointed the audience. How many of today's "stars" will be doing as well when / if they reach their golden years?
I just get chills listening to him. Thank you........MAESTRO......
One, of the few, really great voices from the past. He is missed.
Johnny Maestro truly had one of the best voices ever. My wife and I saw him too many times to count, and NEVER got tired of hearing him sing. My wife passed in March, now she can hear him sing in heaven.
