I was at this concert sitting in the front row in my lounge chair right beside the camera man who made this video. It was a great show with some humor like when Johnny Maestro looked over at his security guard and he said he's sleeping. So we all looked over at the security guard and he was sound asleep it was a funny moment. I never new 6 months later Johnny Maestro would be walking into heaven but not alone but with angels. Thank You Johnny Maestro you touched are lives with your beautiful voice.
I always come back to this video. What devotion, guts and sheer love for his fans when he did this. He sang this better than any one ever and he was dying. This man lived for others. Oh he was humble, kind, and well there are not enough words to describe this fine man. No one will ever take his place, and trying was not the road to go. This voice is a hall of fame , no one can deny. I will hear him on that other shore, love you johnny,,,from johnnie 2
We always loved Johnny doing this song for the encore of his wonderful show. He even did it in January 2010 at the Atlantic City Hilton--last time we saw him and the Brooklyn Bridge. He looked so thin and frail but still had that magnificent voice. Johnny passed away a couple months after that show. Rest in peace, Johnny,
Amazing performance from a man who died less than a year later from the cancer that he was suffering from at the time. RIP peace Johnny. We will always remember the remarkable man you were here on Earth.
Ive lost a tiny piece of my soul. I still remember the first time I saw Johnny Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge at the WCBS-FM 15th Anniversary concert. It was magical. I went to see him in small clubs in Brooklyn, outdoor concerts like the ones at the World Trade Center anywhere I could see him. Each time, it filled my heart and brought me so much joy. Thank you Johnny, for your wonderful music and your magical voice. Rest in peace as you sing for the angels. Im sure theyre listening in.
Every time I listen to these amazing songs, my heart is so broken losing this this wonderfully talented man. Fred, Les, and Johnny now singing in heaven, I miss you all ❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Johnny Maestro is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He will never be forgotton. When I first heard him sing this song at the end of his concert - many, many years ago, I cried. Still tear up everytime he sings it. God Bless you Johnny.
I've seen Johnny Maestro at many different places but the one with the most memories was the several times I saw him in a little out of the way club on 14th street in Hoboken, N.J. They were great memories.
God Bless Johnny. Saw him many times and he was always fantastic. This concert he was amazing even though he looked like he was having trouble breathing 🙏🏻😢🙏🏻😢❤️❤️
His voice was a gift from God....now God has his own private show starring Johnny...you have given much and people love you Johnny....you will NEVER be forgotten..ever! love you and with very much respect....you Johnny Maestro will live on....without sickness, without suffering...God Bless you
When you hear a song and have a smile on your face and atear in your eye you are truly happy I love this kind of songs you feel the love and you know the artist loves the songs too Johnny I know you are in Heaven hope you and Bobby Hatfield ,and my idol Elvis are singing all day God bless
I have been a fan for a long time - so I am a bit biased ... but scrolling and listening to so many talented performers on You Tube is great and it definitely leads to one conclusion - Johnny Maetsro was the most taleneted pop and doo wop voice I have ever heard ... the guys that supported him ar ealso top notch ... bless you all for so many hours of enjoyment and RIP Mr Johnny Maestro --- please note to R&R hall of fame - youare nothing if you do not put Johnny and the BB in ... right now !!!
Johnny has been taken home to be with our Lord, may he rest in peace. He'll Never Walk Alone now, he's at peace, love you for all the great music you've given us.
Johnny Maestro is singing and PEOPLE ARE YAKKING!!! What is wrong with people who go to concerts? Can't you EVER be quiet!!! Great vid! RIP Johnny! Gone but not forgotten!
Even at 70, he sang better than most artists out there today. Johnny had an extraordinary voice and styled his songs using every gift that God gave his vocal cords. With lots of hits from the Crests and Brooklyn Bridge. His heart and soul were in each concert and every note of every song. As amazing as this performance was, his performance in his final year of "Worst that could happen" is even more sensational! He died too young and will be missed.
I understand that at his last concert in Foxwoods a few months ago, he finished his show, and then asked the promoters if he could do one more song...this song. This was the last song he sang for us...knowing the end was near. I have tears watching this video and thinking of that.
Put this man in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! A travesty that he hasn't been inducted yet. One of the truly greats. Have seen him two or three times in recent years and nobody does it better. Didn't know about the cancer - all the best Johnny.
Can't believe Johnny isn't in thr R and R Hall of fame..... How wrong ! I hope this will change in the future......Johnny Marstro RIP Your music will live on
The rock and roll hall of fame is a fraud and mainly a source for hippie artists and those THEY allow in , many who aren’t even rock n roll agars but folk singers and protest singers and even jazz artists ! Why he and Connie Francis And Johnny Rovers aren’t in ! They were too American and working class heroes !
It's truly a treasure to watch and listen to a master.....talk about hittin the notes,,,,must be a wonderful feeling to be able to sing as Johhny does,,,right up there with Elvis,,,and other artist that were blessed with god givin pipes.........
never did he do it better and yes he was sick at the time,,,,walk on my friends,,,miss john being on this earth,, but for the faithful,....we will all see the lord in his glory,,and i hope we get to sing in that heavenly choir with him....one of those days, johnny days...i could listen all day and night, but i would be worn out and bawling,,what a hero and brave soulful man...ttyl johnnie 2
We are entering a new year 2019 an Joel Katz is still going strong, if you are one of the unfortunate people that never purchased this album put it on your Christmas list right away, for there are no better lead singers than the two Giants sinning this song. Rest in peace Johnny Maestro, and to you, Joel Katz keep on trucking. Your friend for 45 year eddie. love you and Joan
I had the privelege to meet Joel Katz many years ago in, and around the North Bergen Passaic counties area. He would come to Kareoke places, and listen to people sing, inconspicuously. He never let on the depth of his backround, and talent he possesed. He was very complimentary to me for my singing efforts. Unfortunately, I was deeply involved with the country mode back in the mid 80s to mid 90s. I wish I had concentrated on my roots in the oldies Doo Wop scene, and had been more like my Idols, Johnny maestro, Joey Canzano, Jimmy Beaumont, and all the other great singers of that era. Joel was always cordial, and friendly to me. I wish I had capitalized on that friendship back then.
Oh boy do I agree with you. I received the news of his death while driving home from work. I had to pull over, I started crying. I loved the guy. He used to come to Staten Island a lot and perform in this catering hall on Hylan Boulevard. When I left NY and moved to Florida, I kept thinking that I would not be able to see Johnny do the summer concerts in Coney Island. God Bless You Johnny, you will be greatly missed!
OMC ! why wasn't this in the media? I remember him on Ed Sullivan, and many other shows. My Honeymoon in the Pocino Mnt's in 1982 he was a main act at the resort.RIP John, Thankyou for the best years of your life! May we meet again
I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT JOHNNY HAS PASSED AWAY !! I HATED SO BADLY TO LEARN THAT, BECAUSE HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITES..16 CANDLES, THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN, ETC. I GREW UP IN THE 60's AND 70's AND HAVE ALWAYS LOVED HIS MUSIC. ALL I CAN DO NOW IS ENJOY THE MUSIC HE LEFT BEHIND AND LOOK FORWARD TO SINGING WITH HIM AND THE GREAT CHOIR IN HEAVEN !! I UNDERSTAND HE HAD CANCER..COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHEN HE PASSED AND ANY OTHER INFO YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT HIS DEATH? THNX
i dont think he was struggling to hit the notes because of cancer...i think after a long night of singing his voice said ok that's nuff. still beautiful. you sing that long see if your voice dont say hey that's nuff all singers have a day when their voice says o lord... this song sung the way he does it gives me goose bumps every time i hear it
PLEASE DON'T THINK I AM YELLING !! I AM LEGALLY BLIND AND I HAVE TO USE ALL CAPS BECAUSE OF MY VISION !! I ONLY WANT TO SAY ONE MORE THING....REST IN PEACE, JOHNNY. YOU ARE MISSED SO VERY MUCH BY SO MANY !!
HI AMY, JOHNNY PASSED AWAY AT AGE 70 ON MARCH 25, 2010 AFTER LOSING THE BATTLE WITH CANCER. THE ARTICLE DIDN'T STATE WHAT TYPE OF CANCER HE HAD. HE DIED AT CAPE CORAL, FL. HE'S UP THERE IN HEAVEN SINGING WITH THE ANGELS, "THE ANGELS LISTENED IN". ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF HIS WAS "WHAT A SURPRISE" BUT I LOVE THEM ALL AND HE IS A TRUE LEGEND AND IS SORELY MISSED. The man was dying, and knew it , yet he gave it his all. He is my hero!
I think this performance was before he was duagnosed, but at the end he still performed great
