I blasted this song as a 45 on my record player when I was 16, and now at 66 yrs. young, I still blast it. Johnny Masestro was one of the greatest . R.I.P. You're missed. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
Sure was! He's from my parents generation but I grew up on oldies and Motown...I fell in love with him and this song.. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert 3x in the late 1990s and actually met him and got his autograph....he was so kind and had fans from multiple generations, cultures, ethnicities ...amazing that a voice, song or person can bring so many different kinds of ppl together!
Being a Long Island girl I was blessed to have seen him live many times... each time an effortless beauty in that man's voice. The morning they announced he was gone... I dropped my husband at work ... drove around the corner from his job and cried my eyes out while The Maestro sang "I believe" There was no local charity that ever heard the word no from Johnny. His efforts like his voice were tireless. I now regret I didn't go to the East Islip church for his funeral mass. God Bless You Johnny!
I don’t comment about pop tunes very often, but this performance by Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge of the classic Jimmy Webb song is almost perfect. If you don’t dig the visuals just forget the cornball club vibe and just listen to the band & vocals. Also, check out the trumpet players singing backgrounds, playing keyboards then pulling off the horn parts on the fly. Those are the kind of musicians I want to be in a band with. RIP - John Peter Mastrangelo aka Johnny Maestro; May 7, 1939 - March 24, 2010.
Johnny Maestro had an unbelievable range and he always seemed like a really nice man. I wish I had had the opportunity to see him in concert!!🥰I was born in 1947 and didn’t hear much about him owing to the fact that country and gospel in my home. I worked and raised my children and was never able to really hear him until this past year and I wish I could have heard him earlier, I simply love to watch him sing, I could listen and watch for hours and never get tired of him🥰💜
@@jessiem276 I loved to watch him sing he had a phenomenal voice and range 🥰 I rewatch his videos and I never get tired or bored listening to him 🙏🏻🥰💜😇♥️He is very much missed especially by me🥰
Because it is run by how many seats they can sell for the event. It is an expensive event for a seat, trust me, plus it is run by young ones who could care less about those who led the way for them. But he IS the first one that was put into the EAST COAST HALL OF FAME! The Rock And Roll Hall of Shame isn't what it was supposed to be all about. People who dropped out of sight are in and Johnny is not.
I am only 25 years old but luckily had the privilege to see Mr. Johnny Maestro perform over 10 times in my life. When I was 9 years old at the Saint Ann's Festival in NJ his crew noticed me singing all of his songs and called me on stage for the little sing along part that he would do for the fans. Met him after the show and he truley was a good person and cared about the fans who supported him. RIP Johnny and God Bless.
I'd hear him sing and say,"how does he sound the same, even after all these years?" I guess simply put, Johhny was blessed as few singers are....having a voice that never quit. We were fortunate to hear him. RIP Johnny.
A dead on, flawless performance from the late, great Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge...R.I.P Mr. Maestro, you were one of the great vocalists of our time.

What a great singer!. He was the best up to the end. So sorry he is gone. Love his music and voice was the greatest. He was blessed with his voice. Wish he was still here. RIP.🙏🙏😪
I met Johnny and the group at The Cheetah Club on 54th Street in NYC. We became good friends actually. I had a baby and the group became the godfather to my son. I still [after 42 years] have the original carriage and mattress with the Brooklyn Bridge emblem on it...wonderful group, wonderful people. He will be missed.
He was the best and any attempt to replace him is nothing but an insult. No one can fill his spot, not now, not ever. I loved and still love Maestro and only Maestro. Rest in peace good brother.
Never got to see him...i'm only 32, but i discovered his music about 10 years ago. Oldies 100 in ocean county nj. Never knew til a few years ago that he sang 16 candles.
The day before the Jets and Joe Namath upset the Baltimore Colts in January of 1969, my high school basketball team won our conference tournament. I was on a high the next day and remember vividly listening to this song. If you lived in the 60’s you know that this group and this song was not typical of most of the music. You got a group with a great vocalist as the lead singer and awesome background harmonies like we heard in the Do Woo era but a big band with horns. They had like 11 members. This was the number 1 song in the country and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing while that song was playing that afternoon. Johnny Maestro is the best of all time.
We lost the best of an era before his time- and that's the worst that could happen. We are struck dumb. Yet we will remain grateful for his impact on our memories and lives through his charm, talent and power and kindness.
