Watching this video, reminds me of the my childhood. My dad would climb the coconut tree at our front yard, and will chevl each stem of coconut by knocking on one and somehow he will which stem is ready for picking. He'll cut the stem and I've watch each coconuts fell on the ground. Once he opens them up ill be the one collecting the juice put in a jug cooler and scraping the white soft flesh ( its semi young stage of coconut 😊) for eating later or making desserts. As for the old ones ( brown coconuts) I keep an eye on them, once i see the sprouts like 4- 5 inch high, ill break it open. the sprout inside is small but its crunchy and much sweeter and has more flavor, i preffer it than the huge size ones it feels like eating styrofoam 😊. Im sorry if my comment (story) is too long. I wish youll be able to experience eating coconut when its mid young. Specially the soft meat that is great for eating not the harden stage which is for milking. Thank You for all the great videos
I guess I've been eating coconut that's for milking my whole life! Hahaha I love it though. We don't get green coconuts in Ireland, only the brown ones with three holes.
I just wrote a comment that it reminds me of my 20's in Key West Fl. My husband and I used to take our baby for a walk in the stroller and pick up unwanted coconuts that fell to the ground to bring them home for a treat. I miss those days .

Interesting to see that Western countries are only now discovering sprouted coconuts.. we Indians eat it almost everyday (those live close to the coastline). In America, you can walk in into any Indian store and buy these by the dozens without the hefty costs plus shipping.. Indians also use the outside brown husk to make small brooms to scoop dirt around the house.. when we were growing up, we learnt in school that coconut is comprehensively useful - all parts of it have some function or another.. and nothing goes waste.. and the coconut itself is consumed across it's stages of maturity. Nature's love - Just so lovely!
It taste sweet bit of juice with foamy texture. Loved eating it as a child! Its more flavorful if you had one thats around 7 days younger. When the sprout that big starts appearing the taste diminishes drastically. Love from Philippines!
In Indonesia, we slice them and cook them into a curry. The sponge texture will absorbs all the coconut milk and spices really well. Add protein like chicken or prawns. All heads and feet or flippers. More bones = more good quality and yummy broth. Later you can scoop them out if you feel grossed with them. But the process needs them. Because of the umami
That coconut is a bit too old That's why it don't have much flavor U got to get it when it still have a bit of water in it! At that point the water becomes very condense and sweet
I always gets excited when my father used to open a matured coconut when he's still alive, caused Im always waiting for this and he called it "pandesal de bukid" or coconut bread and also Btw. Your coconut is way to matured, you should've have it when it still has water and there's still has a meat that can still used to have the coconut milk, in that way it will taste much more sweeter and moist. Lovelies from the Philippines
Jonathan Velasco Manzana de Coco... I LOVE THAT NAME. Sounds tasty. I’ve heard a lot of fruits with spices and lime is really good from some Hispanic classmates in college. They’ve also taken me out for Columbian food which was absolutely amazing so I trust them
A.M. R. lime and dried chili powder is specifically a Mexican thing. Sometimes other people from other Latin countries put salt on their fruit but that's about it.
I sstil cannot believe that if you remove the coconut, the plant will just stop growing...really?? I thought the remaining stem was enough to keep it going.
@@nickde6339 At that point in its growth, the coconut part is the equivalent of its entire root/energy system. Think of it like a tree which has been cut down at it's base. You wouldn't expect that to keep going, would you?
Don't worry about it cause coconut are very easy to propagate in Asia and you can always see young coconuts in the bottom of the tree and is very good producer of fruits.. I'm not just saying this by research but I have observe it by my own eyes cause we a have a lot of those
Lol omg this brings so much memories! In the Philippines, i grew up eating this! Hahaha also i learned how to open coconut as a little kid. Huhu missing the islandss 😭😭😭 Btw the husk can also be used as a lampaso LOL like a natural floor shiner thingy hahha and the coconut shell can also be used as a “piggy bank”
At school we learned that the "coconut wool" (as they liked to call the fiber of the husk) is also being used as stuffing for car head rests. Seems to be very versatile. :)
ftlouim the coconut tree itself is very versatile from its leaves, to its fruits, to the tree itself. You can build houses, eat the fruit, drink its water, make milk, make bags and wrappers out of its leaves... and so many more. Thats why its calle the Tree of Life
banana bread loaf Like the freshest coconut, light, clean, even the water tastes better than later when the jelly turns white and solid. The jelly is soft and slippery just fantastic. You can't get these in stores only right off the tree. You want bight green coconut and if I remember right you want the second bottom row or higher so it hasn't been hanging on the tree too long.
hdezines If you bought it at a store then it's already developed the firm, white flesh on the inside, it'll still be delirious because it's young. Once you remove the husk ( use extreme caution, I wouldn't recommend Emmy's way ), just use a flat bladed screw driver and push it into the husk then pry the husk off by using the screw driver like a pry bar. it takes time. Then take the cleaned nut and put it in the freezer for 3 - 6 hours. It may take longer, sometimes 12 hours, but I don't like freezing the coconut water. Remove from freezer and begin tapping the hard shell around the nut. Good solid taps * don't crack open the but just yet ) you'll hear the inside meat ( the white flesh ) break free from the shell. When you shake it and it makes a noise then take your hammer and smash the hard nut. You'll find a perfectly intact ball of coconut meat, then make a hole in it and drain out the water.
@@imallearsru thank you for all that coconut info! The one I bought is white on the outside, rounded on the bottom and more pointed on the top like it was shaved with a knife and its marketed with a label as young coconut and its covered in a plastic wrap. I love that as well!!! We have a coconut tree in our backyard and my dad would occasionally open up a few of these when we need coconut milk for cooking. He uses mature coconuts that haven't sprouted yet so that there'll be more meat that hasn't bean consumed by the "sponge" yet. There'll be a little sponge at the center when opened and we eat it as a snack while scraping out the meat. The scraped meat will then be squeeze out for milk. The shell will be used for gardening and other miscellaneous stuff. The husk will mainly be used for lighting fire for barbeque. When there's barbeque, a few young coconuts will also be opened so we can drink the juice. We scrape out the young meat to be mixed into a fruit salad for dessert. I just love coconut much!
I love these! Back home in the islands we make a frozen treat version of this, using the sprout crushed, sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk. THen we freeze it and it becomes like an popsicle/ice cream dessert.

I went to Costa Rica recently in Jaco and there were vendors selling these. I was surprised because the texture is very spongy and crunchy at the same time. You can squish it like a sponge. It didn't taste anything like a coconut, but it was very different and not bad at all.
I hope you get to try a monstera fruit at some point. I really loved it. It was like a cross between a pineapple and a banana. But they stopped selling it around here. :(
All fruits effectively do that. Apples, pears, grapes, lemons etc... have seeds inside. So when they fall the the ground they get buried and then soon a new tree or plant sprouts.
i have never wanted to try the texture of a food more.... i think i'd fall in love with it even if there's not much taste.. i mean it has to be great to incorporate with some dishes.
I have the same veggie clever, it's amazing. It's made where I live. Knife company in Massachusetts. I was going buy some coconut apples from Miami fruit, but once I saw the price, I was like yeah, Iemme watch Emmie first.
Here in the Philippines, years ago, my parents before used to sell mature coconut and freshly shredded coconut. Whenever they open those, sometimes this growth had already happened inside. I actually prefer it when the "sponge" is just a tiny little bud, the size of a cherry. I ask my dad to take it and give it to me before he grinds the coconut. It is crunchy, similar to pear or apple but a lot softer and Juicier, and it is super good, like super flavorful young coconut meat.

The blood of Jesus washes away our sins. God requires blood for sins.

This is my childhood too
I just wrote a comment that it reminds me of my 20's in Key West Fl.

Thanks for all the interesting info. I love hearing about things like this where every bit is used. Fascinating!

In Mexico we call it "Manzana de Coco" or "Coconut's Apple" and we eat it with lime and dried chilli for spice, of course.
Jonathan Velasco Manzana de Coco... I LOVE THAT NAME. Sounds tasty. I’ve heard a lot of fruits with spices and lime is really good from some Hispanic classmates in college. They’ve also taken me out for Columbian food which was absolutely amazing so I trust them
There were a few places in the San Diego area that made that stuff... the stuff was sooooo goood
More like "Coconut Apple", as in, apple made out of coconut
A.M. R. lime and dried chili powder is specifically a Mexican thing. Sometimes other people from other Latin countries put salt on their fruit but that's about it.
I like the "of course" at the end 😂 sounds amazing!
Save the fibers for when you need to light up you charcoal when barbecuing

I can't help but feel bad for the coconut. It was at the "Y'know, I think I'm gonna make it!" stage. The tree that never was.
I sort of have the same issue.
💀

Btw the husk can also be used as a lampaso LOL like a natural floor shiner thingy hahha and the coconut shell can also be used as a “piggy bank”

It's a coco fruit from the coco tree from the coco palm family!
Right? When she started hacking at the outer shell and peeling the fibers off, I'm like "where have I seen this before?"
My favourite time to eat a coconut is when it's very young, before the white meat has formed and it's still a clear gelatin. Absolutely the best.
banana bread loaf Like the freshest coconut, light, clean, even the water tastes better than later when the jelly turns white and solid. The jelly is soft and slippery just fantastic. You can't get these in stores only right off the tree. You want bight green coconut and if I remember right you want the second bottom row or higher so it hasn't been hanging on the tree too long.
I just bought a young coconut today for the first time. Any suggestions for eating it or opening it to get the best experience?
hdezines If you bought it at a store then it's already developed the firm, white flesh on the inside, it'll still be delirious because it's young.
