Whenever I eat sunflower seeds it never even crosses my mind that they come from those huge flowers. Just like how I never think of peanuts coming from underground... like its just strange to think about.
it somehow makes me happy that her reaction to the squirrels eating the seedlings was to simply plant more and not to try and get rid of the squirrels violently like some people might try to.
I've been desperately trying to gather dandelion seeds in my yard, but I have a wild rabbit in my yard who has been enjoying them. He needs to eat too. I'll search online to see if I can find any dandelion seeds for sale.
Oh, my goodness. Who ever heard of that. My grandma used to flour and egg coat the newly opened dandelions and eat them. Sort of like breaded mushrooms. But I never heard of eating sunflower blooms. Wait till I feed this to my grandsons, I don't think they will like it,lol. But they will never forget it.
The friends would go to their parents and tell them that those poor poverty stricken kids only had a sunflower head for lunch, they must be very poor. lolol
I am mildly frightened of sunflower heads, especially the ones that bow down and seem to stare at you without any facial features. Now that I know that they're called "heads," that makes it even creepier. I clicked this video with the intent of staring at something I find grotesque and watching it get cooked and eaten in an uncommon way, hoping to creep myself out further, because I can't handle the horror genre but still enjoy feeling fear and disgust. Was not disappointed. Edit: I'm getting recommended her geoduck video next and that sounds like a good next choice
I remember my grandma talking about how she used to take her old panty hose or silk stockings as she used to call them, and put them over the sunflower heads to keep the bugs off and to catch them as they matured so they wouldn't fall out and she would lose most of them.
I studied at the university in Granada, southern Spain, & I had friends who were from small towns & villages in Córdoba, the neighbouring province. I frequently spent weekends & small holidays with them in the countryside. On 1 of the farms, they'd harvest sunflowers &, on an evening, when we were chatting & having a drink, instead of the crisps & nuts we'd eat in the UK, they used to pop a sunflower head on the open fire to roast it, then we'd sit & share it as we drank. I miss things like that.
I grew up in the Northern USA on the Canadian Border, my mother used to get mad because me and my siblings would eat all of her sunflower heads 😂 We would also go to the fields and pick dandelions for tea, and we would fry up the stems like any other vegetable ☺️
@Bad Kitty 369 Are you referring to me or EnteHS dUb, Bad Kitty? If me, I certainly didn't have money then. My brothers & I were the first generation to go to university at that age. My Mum had wanted to go when she was 18 & she certainly was intelligent enough, but she overheard her parents worrying about how they'd manage if she did. My grandmother was adamant she would study, but my grandfather said they couldn't afford it. He had also been intelligent but, as the oldest child, when his father died he had to leave school at 14 to bring in a wage. He always resented that. My Mum left school voluntarily, but went back to university as a mature student when my brothers were 17 & 14, & I was 10. My parents had saved up enough money by then. She fulfilled her dreams, got a teaching degree & became an excellent teacher of history & special needs. She really was a gifted teacher. Both my parents have always worked since leaving school, setting their children an excellent example. I got a Saturday & holiday job on a market stall age 13. I stayed there for 11 years, apart from when I lived abroad. As well as working all day Saturday, whilst at university in the UK I also worked 30 hours a week at a restaurant. I was determined to not let lack of finances hold me back & also wanted to continue studying after my first degree, so knew I needed to save as much as I could. Mine was the first year in my parents' adult life where you didn't get maintenance grants. Both of my brothers had their fees paid (that was normal for all students back then) but also got a maintenance grant to cover their living expenses. I had my fees paid but my maintenance grant was something insulting like 12p per year (equivalent to about 15 cents). As time has gone on, students have had to pay more than my brothers' generations. Now they have to pay for their fees & living expenses. Back then everyone was able to study if they had the academic ability. Now you have to be rich, & that makes me furious. We're going back to the days of my grandfather, denying bright but poor people from having a full education.

well, there's dehydrators that work with the sun. On the summer you can do it. The temperature behind the glass will reach 60º (safe of microorganisms point) given the right strategy. Will take like 3 days for tomatos.

I'm just now planting some, so glad to find this today, just in time to do this 😀 Now I don't have to feel like I can lose the volume of food from my sunflowers unless I stand guard around them most of the day and night fending off birds and squirrels 👍 Fantastic! Sunflower head as plant-based whole roast chicken. My friends will freak when I bring this to a group dinner. I'll use more licoricey Thai basil I'm growing, some garlic & more. Will also make sure I get someone else to bring some strongly flavored foods so this can be an accompaniment & counter point blander flavor. Can't wait 😁 Only Emmy 😀❤️🥇
Hi. Emmymade. Today is my birthday. I turned 60. You make me feel better, when you do your videos. Why are you eating the head of the sunflower. I thought the sunflower had seeds that you can eat. Oh well.god Bless you. Have fun eating the flower.
So, if you like sunflower heads to eat. Have you ever fried squash and melon blooms? I pick them, soak them in salty water for a bit to kill off any bugs hiding. I then roll them in flour, dip in a beaten egg with milk, dip in flour again, then fry in butter. S & P to taste and eat. I plant extra just for the blossoms to eat. I prefer them with S&P for the subtle flavor of the fruit.

Emmy is living out childhood fantasies, at least of mine, of tasting the center of a giant sunflower. 💛🌻 I’ve gotta try this!!
“my youngest child”
Emmy I will be honest. I thought u were in your early 20s.
She's been doing RUclips for about a decade now! She has a beautiful personality though, and that combined with good genes makes her seem extremely young. She's still probably young mid-late 30s?
Sara Beth WHOAHH Why an I finding her now damn
T I’ve followed her for a couple years now. Her voice is so calming and helps me go to sleep. Watch her hard times series. It’s probably my favorite :)
Shes looks young right
I’ve watched her since I was 9-10 especially when she used to be prego making happy kitchen and poppin cooking I’m almost 20 myself 😂
Whenever I eat sunflower seeds it never even crosses my mind that they come from those huge flowers. Just like how I never think of peanuts coming from underground... like its just strange to think about.
I thought I was the only one who had not considered my Sunflower seeds came from these flowers!
Wait till you find out where bacon comes from
B L bacon plants.. yum.?
We are so disconnected from where our food comes from lol weird to know people don’t actually know legumes come from the ground
Peanuts what-
Cook it, scrape off the seeds before serving, mix with fried rice as a side dish. No one would bat an eye tbh.
What a great idea. And it looks much easier to shuck than corn.
OMOSHIROIII
it somehow makes me happy that her reaction to the squirrels eating the seedlings was to simply plant more and not to try and get rid of the squirrels violently like some people might try to.
When planting, you plant one for yourself, one for the wildlife and one for mother earth. That's why I end up with too many zucchini sometimes...

I can’t explain why, but the way those seeds look makes me very uncomfortable, and yet I’m still intrigued enough to continue watching.
Same here, lol. It triggered some lowkey trypophobia.
I’m seeing a lot of tryphobic people in these comments ✨👄✨

Oh, my goodness. Who ever heard of that. My grandma used to flour and egg coat the newly opened dandelions and eat them. Sort of like breaded mushrooms. But I never heard of eating sunflower blooms. Wait till I feed this to my grandsons, I don't think they will like it,lol. But they will never forget it.
That’s so cool!
Emmy has done those!

Yea the close up shots really freaked me out for some reason lol
Yeah, I agree 😅

I know Emmy says she hopes we learned something after every video but I can say this time I actually did! Had no idea of all those sunflower facts.
Omg me too!!!! They remind me of corpses when they're all dried up!

I remember my grandma talking about how she used to take her old panty hose or silk stockings as she used to call them, and put them over the sunflower heads to keep the bugs off and to catch them as they matured so they wouldn't fall out and she would lose most of them.
Great now i cant get rid of the image of your grandma and her panty hose😐

No way!
I grew up in the Northern USA on the Canadian Border, my mother used to get mad because me and my siblings would eat all of her sunflower heads 😂
We would also go to the fields and pick dandelions for tea, and we would fry up the stems like any other vegetable ☺️
I love how Emmy is always creating or eating something unique or totally different..
I always walk away learning something new or curious to try something new after watching her videos.
Her personality is also wonderful & makes it entertaining.. I mean did you see how she randomly pulls out that huge ass sunflower stem hahaha😄 I love her💕

If you're tired of waiting for Artichokes I would recommend the variety Colorado Star. It's an annual variety that produces purple & green Artichoke hearts in 75 days. Seeds are a bit hard to find right now, but they're worth tracking down!
Where would you look to find the seeds? I am a huge artichoke heart lover and now I am on a new quest! Any tips? Thanks

It doesn't look easier to eat than corn but really neat! I'm headed over to fried dandelions. "Sun-dried tomatoes that I dried in my dehydrator" 😆😆😆 you mean Emmy-dried tomatoes

well, there's dehydrators that work with the sun.
On the summer you can do it. The temperature behind the glass will reach 60º (safe of microorganisms point) given the right strategy.
Will take like 3 days for tomatos.

wow, i wasn’t aware the heads of sunflowers were even edible. looks pretty dang tasty
My brain has the opposite reaction, looks extremely unappetizing.
the entirety of a sunflower is edible. but for making tea or eating the leaves, petals and stalk its best to stick to the common variety
Does it though?
When i saw a sunflower in my school, i ate it lol
It doesn't look appetizing in the slightest.

Wow. I had no idea! I'm just now planting some, so glad to find this today, just in time to do this 😀
Now I don't have to feel like I can lose the volume of food from my sunflowers unless I stand guard around them most of the day and night fending off birds and squirrels 👍 Fantastic!
Can't wait 😁

this is really interesting, i never knew sunflower heads were just a whole bunch of little teeny flowers!
They look like tiny dandelion flowers, likely because they're the same family of flower.

Hi.

I imagine living in a world filled with gigantic flowers of all types. Just... no gigantic pollinators.
so no giant butterflies or bees? :(
nat v Why the sad face? You really want giant bees flying around?
