BEGGAR'S CHICKEN Recipe -- cooking a whole chicken in CLAY | How to Make Clay From Dirt
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 авг 2024
- #beggarschicken is a Chinese dish that uses #clay to encase and cook a whole chicken, after which it is cracked open with a mallet. I take things a step further by collecting my own dirt which I process into clay. 😅

yeah, if you cook it under campfire, it's even better/genuine
You honestly should be on the food network. Your format is really creative and your delivery of the content is extremely engaging. You also have a colourful vocab that makes viewers taste and smell through the screen purely from the way you describe what you're doing.
Emmy is too good for Food Network you're right though that she deserves more visibility! Plus I can only imagine that Food Network would ruin the magic Emmy has running her own channel.

Cooking a chicken is "amazing content"? I mean it was interesting and perhaps a bit unusual here but I wasn't amazed. If she had opened the clay and the chicken got up and ran out of the window I would be pretty amazed.
Creepycat The definition of the word amazing is subjective, what one person finds amazing may differ from someone else, and that’s ok. I personally thought that this video was amazing content. Not only was it unique and clearly made with a lot of hard, long, and tedious work and effort, but it also was educational for those who have never heard of this before. To me, it’s pretty amazing to see someone foraging and making their own clay from scratch via a process that took several days (as opposed to just buying it or not using it at all), as well as actually baking a chicken inside of it! Definitely something I’ve never seen, and I enjoyed being enlightened and educated on something I otherwise wouldn’t have known! 😊
I love how she never tries to contain her excitement and shows us her real, honest reactions

Maybe the Emperor hired him to make this specific dish, since he added it to the Imperial menu. If that's the case, it was a good thing for the beggar that the Emperor ate some of it.

Cassie Reilly lol
I assume the chicken keeps the moisture while cooking because the water can't escape since clay is impermeable, which would make the meat really tender. All that, paired with the 3 hours of cooking and the beautiful seasoning must make one delicious, tender and juicy chicken!
Might try this recipe out!
Skip the printed paper for safety. Ink fume may have added taste but surely diminished lifespan
I hate to mess up your perfect 100 likes but...
If she put a small bamboo reed / straw for the steam to escape her clay shell would probably not crack.

An old fashion pressure cooker of sorts😂

Hello 👋 how are you doing
Watching Emmy get excited over wrapping chicken in lotus leaves is the highlight of my day!

It's like roasting a chicken, but with 20 times more work.
Yeah, I was wondering. Is there really a difference between normal roasted chicken and the one covered in clay?
Lil Shithead i think it has something to do with old oven, more like only wood and fire, clay make the heat spread properly and cooked through
@@JessAyu ohh yea i remember smth that i read that has a similar concept. They roasted some fish and when they peel off the layer, the scales are off with the clay.
I think the clay insulates it for a longer slower cooking time, and I suspect it is similar to sous-vide in texture and tenderness. I'm not sure if you can sous-vide a whole chicken though since it would probably take forever and be kind of ugly and raw looking. Yeah, a TON of work you wouldn't want to do unless you're having some sort of very special medieval dinner-party!
An alternative is stuff your chicken full of yummy veggies & mix and wrap in tin foil. You can toss the foil ball right into a camp fire and cook it up directly in the flames... then later get it out of the flames with a stick and yum - camp fire chicken!
I love the enthusiasm and excitement over some of the things you create and items you use, i.e. the excitement you expressed after wrapping the bird in the lotus leaves. You were like a little kid, such an incredible moment. And you know, it's those tiny moments that make life worth living.

The way she giggled happily after wrapping the chicken with the lotus leaves is just so adorable. ❤ i can see how much she's enjoying herself.
12:25 I thought the point of wrapping it with lotus leaves was so that you didn't have to use newspaper or plastic wrap
not only that but i wouldn't want to bake anything in newprint. ink dyes are pretty nasty. admittedly i doubt any significant amount is released, particularly given how none of it fumes with the clay covering. still... just why. if you need a steam barrier for the clay just use a paper towel or butcher paper layer.
I thought so too! That’s how you usually make tamales in Mexico (we use banana leaves instead of the lotus ones tho) and nothing goes through them if you know how to properly wrap things up.
yea I’d exclude the newspaper from the recipe
I think the newspaper is just a tradition kinda like how fish n chips are traditionally served in newspaper. It may seem nasty but to people who grew up eating it like this the taste is nostalgic

Julia B The earth has clay deposits too
Depends on where you live. We assume we have a variety of material underground when it really depends on your location.
Some places do just have clay deposits. There was a particular spot at my elementary school that did.
@@ForeverMasterless Wherever land has risen since the last ice age is a good chance to find clay. Here in Norway, many places are literally JUST clay. Including my farm. So anywhere I dig more than 20cm (plough depth) down I'll find pure blue clay, untouched for 10000 years. Except for dandelion and creeping thistle roots, obviously. Nothing much else is able to penetrate through the plough sole (what we call the hard layer just below plough depth, formed from machines running over the ground above, compacting soil and not breaking it apart below 20cm).

I don’t know anyone who goes so above and beyond in their videos. You’re amazing.
I'm thinking wrapping it in the newspaper is more dangerous/carcinogenic than straight-up putting clay onto the lotus leaves.
Ivan Dmitriev I guess as long as u don’t eat it every day, you will be fine
It depends on how the newspaper is printed I think, still not sure how good it is to be eating paper but most newspapers are printed with vegetable ink so it should be fairly safe to eat I’m assuming. I line my birds cage with newspapers because if they end up chewing on it the ink won’t hurt them
Well, the chicken is already well-packaged with the lotus leaves, so the newspaper shouldn’t have any affect on the chicken. But I’m not an expert by any means.
xx_sh1th43d_xx :)
Since the 1980s newspapers use a soy based ink. It's not dangerous at all.
