Were fighers never sent to 77? After two planes are down and Otis was in the air, you'd think an unresponsive aircraft would be escalated to the Air Force pronto.
This more recent video I made includes Rutgers Audio Phone Calls, which gives a bit more insight as to where/what they thought was happening with AA77: ruclips.net/video/bMYBXva4Q2c/видео.html In that video at 8:57am (1:09:13) Indy Center (ZID) loses contact with AA77, then at 8:58am (1:10:54) Indy Center calls AA Dispatch. At this stage it doesn't seem Indy Center knows about the AA11 hijacking until AA dispatch tells them about it at 9:09 am (1:21:58). In that same call the AA dispatch speculates that AA77 was the second plane to hit the World Trade Center. At 9:19am (1:31:32) in the newer video Indy Center explains what they know about AA77 to Herndon Command Center, saying they now believe it was hijacked. At 9:33am (1:45:53) Dulles spots AA77 approaching Washington D.C. In the video you can also see that fighters were launched for the purpose of going to Washington D.C. at around 9:27am, but that was because Otis seemed to think that there was three planes that had come out of Boston and that AA11 was still in the air (Maybe the similar names for AA77 and AA11 caused the confusion as to which planes were still a threat?)
@@NoisyTurtle2600 Thanks. Something else I saw in another video is GPS wasn't even installed on planes at that time, and it sounds like traffic control didn't tag/follow planes on their radar especially when entering a new flight zone (otherwise they wouldn't confuse AA11 and AA77). I didn't pay attention to any of this content during the anniversary media coverage. Too painful. Just happened across a pilot interview on YT and wanted to learn how the professionals involved (mostly) kept their cool under these circumstances. Feels like they were too patient!
