Time is running so fast... God, i miss the 80's and 90's so much What a great century... Everything is original And John and James was awesome in this clip
Mr. Petrucci has proven that he can play any style. This is him playing classical guitar style. His picking is so great, and the sound he makes is gorgeous. I wish they made a guitar version of Steinway to Heaven, with Petrucci playing a solo classical guitar piece.
I agree with you, but you are wrong with something: Metal bands are not better than others. Some artists are better than others, regardless of the genre they make. That's important to understand.
Their newer work, for me, simply lacks charisma, lacks gracefulness. Not to mention there's not a good lyricist left in the band, except for John M. Seeing, however, that he has the least creative control, I don't foresee a solid album from them in the future. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. They need to follow their own advice, and "Take the time to reevaluate." It sad watching them selling out; we don't need cheesy sing-alongs like "Along for the ride".
I agree! Awake is such a profound, dark and well-balanced album. Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian were much more suited to play prog than Rudess will ever be. And it's not just about the lyrics, their music seems so uninspired too; fill of violence and hatred...
In When Dream and Day Unite they were young, still testing the waters, so to speak. As far as the Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence I don't have much to say, as it's not one of my favorite; it's not their best, nor their worst. The subject matter was presented much like a huge religious, sociopolitical debate, which I personally disliked. I need more abstract, magical lyric to keep me interested. Music wise, however, is indeed one of their best. The sounds created by the band were truly crafted to suit, not just the subject at hand, but also the overall mood. The flow of the album is also superb, like in most of their records. Six Degrees is an underrated album, as is Falling Into Infinity, however, for it's more balanced mood, I prefer the latter a bit better.
this truly shows james's abilities. this is absolutely beautiful. he has such fantastic control of his falsetto. shows he can sing softly and agressively. simply amazing.
Live another day Climb a little higher Find another reason to stay Ashes in your hands Mercy in your eyes If you're searching for a silent sky You won't find it here Look another way You won't find it here So die another day The coldness of his words The message in his silence I face the candle to the wind This distance in my voice Isn't leaving you a choice So if you're looking for a time to run away You won't find it here Look another way You won't find it here So try another day They took pictures of our dreams Ran to hide behind the stairs And said, "Maybe when it's right for you, they'll fall" But if they don't come down Resist the need to pull them in And throw them away Better to save the mystery Than surrender to the secret You won't find it here Look another way You won't find it here So try another day
Sure thing. It's so obvious if you evaluate him properly, isn't it? Range, variety of tone, power, and emotion. You read the lyrics off a page, following along with the song, and he will steadily work through them, making every word come alive with a shade and feeling. Joy, despair, frustration, fury, confusion and determination are conveyed perfectly. And how his voice floats so purely and lightly over the music is mind blowing. By no means the weakest member of DT.
If this fantastic ballad is gay as discussed many ... November Rain (GR) is gay, Stairway to Heaven (LZ) is gay, Crazy (AM) is gay, Angel (JP) is gay, More than words (EX) is gay, and many more ballads ... and I wonder, will not be them who like to be blowing the neck?
I actually really like this. As a matter of fact, I enjoy alot of this version more than the original. 3:00... FUCK LaBrie can sing. It's a sweet song, and should be played as such. Love this album. One of the best things to come out of the 90's.
And now we know why Petrucci usually plays neither acoustic guitar nor finger picking. Kind of reassuring to know that even someone like him has blind spots.
ya its funny cuz you think that systematic chaos is its weakest album...but some people think it genius....dream theater is just an all around great band and people gotta realizd that and understand that they're not gonna play what the radio wants to hear.
Definitely, but Dream Theater is much more than a metal band. Dream Theater is a progressive band that to me provides an amazing range of genre where most metal bands leave me wanting more.
I agree with what you are saying. Complexity isn't everthing, but it is still important to bands such as DT who want to push their music in interesting directions. That's where the positive changes lie, and I think that my original statement was too simplistic. The way that they HAVE become weaker is that Syst. Chaos was full of brilliant songs, but also included ones that were not worth recording (which in all fairness was only 2), and therefore lacked consistency.
Yeah, i like their new stuff, but it's just not the same. on systematic chaos they wasted ten minutes on a track with about two riffs and another 6 minutes on a song that was a boring pile of crap with too many effects. saying that the rest was brilliant, but on images and words every song was top quality, so why don't they live up to their old satndards now? It's very frustrating...
I did'nt think I would enjoy this video as much I did. The higher verses turned out to be pretty amazing in the way James did it to fit the acoustic version.
@Greg509 What I'm talking about is that I play guitar, play I&W's Another Day, and all those natural harmonics are impossible in standard tuning. I'm not the only one that pointed it out, just check out the comments for the tuning.
Where does this video come from? they look like they're about go jogging or something! Anyway, I love this version, its perfectly arranged and the vocals were perfectly tailored for the transfer to an acoustic version.
@Mcleod2daMax Agreed but nothing wrong with playing an electric "like" and accoustic with finger style pieces and such. IMO! I say this because it's what I do
Made a guitar cover of this ❤️ check it out if you want on account Kowarete Iku Sekai(it's usually the second video when searching for the acoustic version of this song), would really make my day 🤗 This one is definitely one of my favorite songs ever, I've felt it to the bone...
GO BACK TO THE GUITAR MATE - there's another thing life will teach you, even with dumb parents (or dumb decisions in my case), even with a struggling past, against everything, even if don't have the talent (again, my case), even if you don't have quite enough time, just don't drop it. I didn't play guitar for 22 years cause I thought I would suck. guess what, nobody is born into it, 3 years later here i am, still cant play sh!t, but when I play everything else is suddenly less important \m/ -
@BiggDickJohnson He hit them all the time back in the day, both because his vocal chords were younger and because he hadn't had the accident. He was among the best of the best when he was about 20. He would've even left DT if the other members hadn't told him to stay. It's not studio magic; if you know every song of every album by heart, you know that his vocals have been significantly less challenging in the last 10 years or so. Because he did indeed damage his vocal chords.
Agreed. I think their weakest element this time round were the lyrics. I can't actually listen to the Dark Eternal Night or ITPOE, just because they're really quite evil. Actually - IAW is my favourite album of all time, and the lyrics are partially to do with that. No way! I dont fucking believe it! Its terrible! Im a singer too. I know how its like. But please! Dont give a shit! He is a very good singer but not in alive preformances and not always! I know he can sing a high notes!!! To sing high notes like that you must practise, practise and practise all the time all the time. but Here we all are hear he's just dont do that before this performance!
maaaaan I hate this version of another day. I love this song for the HIGH voice notes LaBrie did in the original record song. Here is like he's dying or some like that!! bad bad bad!!! No feeling! And the PRETRUCCI performance was perfect!!he never disapoints! but a expected more for LaBrie! In fact, i clicked on the vid thinking of a great performance by him, but he really disapoint me =(
Ok right some people just think different, but I can asure you if you had the privilege of goin to a DT concert and enjoy this song live, you will think the same I did, this song must be sing with that awesome voice LaBrie gave it in first place, that's the hole spirit of it!!! or you people actually think this great song has to be sang like in this vid??That's just mest up!
The vocals were adapted to balance the acoustic guitar. As said before, the higher stuff would not balance the acoustic because of the naturally high frequencies...James was smart to take much of it down. I'm very sure that the DT members, particularly JP, were smart enough to take more than one take just in case. They're all musical genuii...
LaBrie and Petrucci having an acoustic moment together... Simply bliss! :)
Time is running so fast...
God, i miss the 80's and 90's so much
What a great century...
Everything is original
And John and James was awesome in this clip
Labrie's voice never fails to give me the chills! And that jawline...omg! *_*
he was the original giga chad
young labrie was something else
A song none other than James can sing properly...
@Matej Juhás sad but yeah... but in his prime only few could come close to his voice in rock/metal
You are spot on
Does anyone here even know why James Labrie lost his vocal range?

what a gentle, loving voice... and also the guitar, really touching. And for me they're looking very good..
LaBrie's beautiful face can only be the reflection of a gorgeous soul. As for his voice...there aren't words to describe it.
Freezing Moon Yes, James is a beautiful man. And he really CAN sing... 😘❤🎤
The most beautiful comment about LaBrie.Till today i think the same thing.I went tonthere concert a month ago.❤
He looks like an Elf
This song keeps saving my life everytime I'm ready to quit life, I think about climbing just a little higher..just live another day,,,,
That's why songs are created for. Try never give up,i wish you all the best.God loves everybody with his deep pure love. Greetings from Russia
did anyone realize that petrucci is playing a guitar not in the standart tuning? how genius petrucci is
That's pretty common actually.
David Goshadze the turning hes using is definitely not common
What tuning is he in?

Tuning is: E Ab D# G# B Eb

they were so young! James' voice is amazing, and petrucci's guitar same thing.
That has to be the most 90's thing I've ever seen! LOVE IT
lol have you seen the official video for Lie? its more 90s than the 90s haha
John petrucci`s acoustic interpretation is soooo gooood!

James Is One Of The Best Singers In The World Along With Zac Stevens And Jon Oliva From Savatage. And John Petrucci Is An Amazing Guitarist.
Glad someone is giving Savatage some love. Highly underrated band.
+Savatage is my most favorite band ever!!! They deserve a lot of love.
Jame's voice!!!!! Shame he sounds really worn out now. Though in saying that, I saw DT a few weeks ago... STILL worth every penny!!! Long Live DT!
Another day (dream theater) by Alip ba ta (from Indonesia) maestro acoustic guitar, very amazing skill and sound. you must see.
This is so beautiful....❤❤❤❤
LaBrie's voice is so beautiful ._. I love his voice, it's angelical

Petrucci plays like he has a full orchestra in his acoustic guitar . Amazing

Wut this is Petrucci ?
I miss Dream Theater.

The voice of Dreams :-)
Great version of this song. Back when JP was at his peak musically and JLB still had all the nice tonal qualities in his voice
"La frialdad de sus palabras, el mensaje en su silencio..."
Live another day
Climb a little higher
Find another reason to stay
Ashes in your hands
Mercy in your eyes
If you're searching for a silent sky
You won't find it here
Look another way
You won't find it here
So die another day
The coldness of his words
The message in his silence
I face the candle to the wind
This distance in my voice
Isn't leaving you a choice
So if you're looking for a time to run away
You won't find it here
Look another way
You won't find it here
So try another day
They took pictures of our dreams
Ran to hide behind the stairs
And said, "Maybe when it's right for you, they'll fall"
But if they don't come down
Resist the need to pull them in
And throw them away
Better to save the mystery
Than surrender to the secret
You won't find it here
Look another way
You won't find it here
So try another day
His eyes are so beautiful
..what happened to laBrie? this was the real one :)
aging factor...
Check the 2019 tour videos. He recovered pretty well!

A crazy guitar arrangement to perform. I recorded this with a buddy and man was it tough. Should I post it? 😂.
acoustic version is amazing. best
young Petrucci was pretty sexy, I find the skinny version much better than the actual muscle one
why doesn't dream theater do any more of this type of performance?? those were the days
ah the early 90's. When guys could wear bicycle shorts and baggy t-shirts. Hey M.E.A.T magazine. only Canadian metalzine at the time.

It would spoil the tone of the music if he screamed the high notes like usual. Plus he would completely drown out petrucci
holy hell this is amazing!
Please come fuck in Brazil dear Dream Theater ! We need your babies making progressive metal with afro indigenous touch.
When James sings''Face the candle in the wind''THE WIND BLOWS....
It's so interesting hearing JLB do real falsetto.
..beautiful open string strokes from petrucci. and of course james, you're great man!
This is like a more-emotional, light, easy-listening version, of a FATES Warning-type song?
The guitar sounds like crap.. (not Petrucci's fault... the mics and the recording gear)
Intro, the finest! Petrucci looks so out of place xD

That was great. I have never seen them so young, and LaBrie always amazes me with his vocals!
I'm glad to see this vid back...it was unavailable for a while. What a great version of a great song!!!
Whats wrong with some cheese? Dream Theater throw everything but the kitchen sink in their music. This is a classic among DT longtime fans.

This one is definitely one of my favorite songs ever, I've felt it to the bone...
I believe it's becouse its becouse it's plugged straight to the mixing board.. that's a unique sound that you can guet from a guitar
Yo is John's guitar in a different tuning? There's no way in hell he can get all of those natural harmonics with standard tuning.
i miss that petrucci?
I miss that james. he's no where near as good and as in shape as he was now.
You should have seen Dream Theater Unplugged live in Rotterdam. Back in 1998. (thats where cover my eyes was performed first)
@ExSeptentrione Yep, both in G# and uses that same chord shape. Clean arpeggios that uses open chords are the best anyway.
@VuTraMy123 I miss you James LaBrie? He IS actually in Dream Theater, he never left... refresh!
wow lowest action I've ever seen in a guitar! amazing!
@TheFacilidade its also really hard to sing like that acousticly.. it makes it sound really odd and out of place
This is the voice that made me fall in love with DT.❤
