- Why does one vineyard earn more respect than another? The term “grand cru” was coined by the French to describe these special spots. In this blind-tasting we find a wine you could mistake for something else because of where it grows.
What wine is it? -- this.wine/v/VT-SWYGVMXBI/
Today we're tasting a Cru Beaujolais from Côte-de-Brouilly. It's by Domaine Baron de L'Ecluse and it's their 2020 vintage "Les Garances."
2020 ended up being an excellent vintage for Gamay Noir (the grape used in this wine) and it shows with all the delicious ripe blueberry fruit.

Congrats on reaching 100k subscribers! Well deserved.
Fun one. Got it. Was deciding between Gamay and Pinot. MP’s comment about the surprisingly dark color pointed me to Beaujolais! Thanks as always for the education! 🍷
Thank you. Another great episode!
Oak aging is not common for Beaujolais. That's why my guess was PN
nice episode Madeline! Love the winemaker section!
I'm starting to guess these correctly! Feels great!
Great video! Surprised myself by nailing the varietal (through process of elimination 😂)
Interesting 🤔 thank you
Fooled me today!
👍👍
Although, even good Gamay leaves me wishing it were Pinot Noir! 🤷♂️
Why?
@BChienPanda because it lacks Pinot's depth, to me. If it floats your boat, have at it.
❤
I got it right😄
This one was a curveball, as it was obvious that it wasn't Cali Zin or Cornas Syrah, but the other two were quite similar. So I couldn't call it, oh well. But Beaujolais Crus are some of the best kept secrets in the world of wine. Shhh.... lets not speak about this too loudly, ha! 🤪
boooyah!
Madeline any more recommendation from Trader Joe's or Costco..Your recommendation for Granacha is outstanding
Glad you enjoyed that!
