Seems very difficult to recommend this really oled that will definitely produce a better image for blacks and contrast but that small fov would ruin it for me, I sometimes even like to take the face projector off my quest 3 and get even close to the lenses to watch movies it's absolutely incredible watching a 3d movie like this, all you need to do is turn the lights off in the room and you've got fully dark environment, It's better than cinema experience cheque out 4xvr player For playing full mvc 3D Blu Ray rips.
A beyond owner here, coming from an index and cv1, and while it's not perfect (fov, e2e) I'm never going back to having a big brick hanging from my face again,,, hopefully. The form factor is key but like anything you might have attached to your head or face, it takes some getting "use to". As for performance the easiest tweak is to turn down the steam super sampling, I have it down to 52% (which steam shows as 2568x2568) in high demanding games (Acc, Elite) and it's still super crisp somehow. Still waiting on that audio strap but the soft strap works well enough for me when you find the sweet spot (more toward the crown of your head than the back), plus you can rest your head on your head pillow again, which I missed from my cv1 days. The Bsb may not be for everyone but I'm very happy with it. No more brick!
I'm exactly the type of person this headset is made for. I prioritize immersion and contrast over a wide field of view (FOV). I primarily use VR for work, so clear text and long-term comfort are essential. You mentioned adjusting to the visuals over time. I agree, but I think it's less about getting used to them and more about your brain learning how to process them. This isn't a plug-and-play headset-it requires some fine-tuning. After a week of use, I stopped noticing any visual issues. I don't mean I'm intentionally ignoring them; I literally can't see them unless I actively look for them. However, I still have trouble reading UI text at the edges of the screen in games like Contractors. I haven't experienced any problems with the headset overheating or the fan noise. I have sensitive eyes and prefer to run it at 60-70% brightness, which also reduces persistence. I've never felt like a VR world was too dark. In fact, the deep blacks in this headset make dark areas in VRChat worlds look much better. Even though it's dark, you can still see objects and feel immersed in the environment. You also gave the impression that this headset is complicated to use. I agree it takes time to set up, but once it's dialed in, it stays that way. You don't technically need the included software, and the headset consistently works for me. Compared to having to use the Meta app or, even worse, the Varjo app, this is a huge relief. I still have nightmares about calibrating and working with the Varjo app. Many times, people have trouble in VRChat because of an audio setting in the Meta app or something similar. The fact that this headset is just a native SteamVR headset is a major plus for me. I'm concerned about people considering the Crystal Lite. Pimax has a history of problematic software. Their headsets are great, but everyone I know says they're a constant struggle to use.
I was going to get a Beyond, but I am glad that I went with buying 2 Quest 3's instead. There are just too many compromises needed in order to achieve that form factor and display quality. Pretty much everything in your video went into my decision making, and it was wrapped up in a concise package, good stuff.
Just got my bsb yesterday, still waiting on base stations. This is my first heaset so i can't compare it but I wanted to say why I got it and it doesnt get touched on by reviewers. Its because of Bigscreen, they have a very consumer friendly mindset. Like all the 3d models are available so if something breaks you can 3d print a new one, also ppl create cool things like a flip up headstrap. the ppl at EyeTrackVR shows how to add eye tracking with basic components. BigScreen has a video where they actually did it and recomended doing it. They say they dont have eye tracking on the device because "every gram counts" So I know if they get eaten by meta or go belly up I have a headset thats truly mine and can tinker with. So yeah its not for everyone but for me, its the only headset I was ever interested in
Sorry to hear you not liking the big screen .... For me, the Big Screen fell out of the box, leaped on my face and i had no issues at all.... As a Index Owner, I was super happy with the Bigscreen... May not be as clear on the edges and the FOV is a wee bit smaller than the index - but the sweet spot is always there for me and due to the increased resolution and zero screen door effect, I felt this was definitly an upgrade from the Index...And that isn't even mentioning how light and small this thing is....The glare is definitly there as well but imo, not worse than the index... The fact that it doesn't go above 90hz - for me isn't a problem... That is because I'm using it mostly for sim racing and not things like beat saber, where you can't reach super high frame rates anyway...
Finally, I've been waiting for your take on this since you are unbiased. You have confirmed eeverything I have read and I'm glad I cancelled my order. I went with the pimax crystal light with the lighthouse faceplate. It's not ideal but I think from the chooices we have its the best, we will see.
I love my beyond but it is definitely for certain people with specific use cases. I use mine on a 6dof motion platform sim rig and wouldn’t use anything else at this point for that use case. I prefer my quest 3 more for many room scale applications and wireless and MR. But the beyond definitely beats the quest on the sim rig hands down!
Fair review, felt 100% the same. The blurry edges, the low brightness, the low FOV made me realize this is probably not for me. I'm ending up going back to my Index because of al this as I mostly play competitive style games such as Pop:One or Contrators Showdown. I'm mostly likely going to return it if the Pimax Crystal Light turns out to be any good.
Thanks a lot for the review. I also don't think this my next upgrade. I'm still on my G2 and I think about buying the pimax crystal light with local dimming but I would love to hear your opinion on it if you have the chance. Keep up the amazing work!
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 That's very sad but I appreciate your honesty. Maybe I'll just wait a little bit longer for a brand new VR headset with Oled, a good FoV and good lenses :)
@@M0rtifer The Crystal is a great headset...when it works. I'm still having issues with it not turning on until I unplug a USB cable, reboot etc. Other times it works perfect. It's a crap shoot, lol. But a lot of those issue may disappear with the Crystal Light since it doesn't have the XR chip, battery etc. Who knows....
I have the bigscreen beyond and love it. Get some light weight wired headphones to keep the immersion. Definitely need a microfiber cloth to keep the lens clean. My long eye lashes brush the right lens and is an issue for the 1st few minutes, it goes away as i clean the lens.
Kinda sucks that even the top of the line VR headsets are still in the trial and error phase. There is no consumer friendly priced headset that doesn’t have glaring compromises. I just want a good vr headset that isn’t $6000. Maybe in 10 more years we will finally have a perfect headset. For a vr headset to be perfect it needs high resolution, low latency, large sweet spot preferably pancake lenses, ultrawide fov, wireless, be standalone and pcvr ready. Be light and comfortable. And on top of all that be reasonably affordable. That’s a tall order but until that day vr will stay firmly in the niche market.
Sharing is caring lol!! Thanks for the review. Any product being so specific to an individual has major drawbacks such as sharing and selling it. You are pretty much stuck with it and not being able to share it sucks. Passthrough must be a staple with all vr moving forward i believe.
I became a member of your channel just because you were honest about the problems you found. Thanks for the Review! Please keep reviewing how "hot" these VR devices get near the eyes. I currently use Quest3, and coming from Quest2, I feel that the heat is much more annoying and makes my sim time shorter. Even using some other accessories to cool it down (with a fan), I can not play for longer sessions anymore; the fan dries my eyes too much. If you could keep a comparison between other devices to have an idea of how comfortable it is, it would help a lot! Thanks!
Awesome review, way better than the rest I’ve found!! You brought up points that a lot of people didn’t consider and it gave me a way better perspective on the product. Thank you!!!
I got my IPD measured by my optometrist and they gave me two numbers because each eye is a slightly different distance from the center of my nose. Someday, we'll have affordable headsets that automatically adjust to the individual IPD of each eye.
I own Beyond and PSVR2. My experience with beyond is similiar to described in the video. The peripheral view is considerably less sharp, however I think that it mostly comes down to the big difference between sharpness of the center of the image in comparison to the peripheral. I still think that peripheral on the Beyond is sharper than center of the PSVR2. It's just the fact, that center of Beyond is incredibly sharp that makes it so noticable. At first headset seems dim, but again, after your eyes get accustomed to it, it is totally fine. I think that it seems dim in comparison to brightness of the room. But Beyond seals external light completely, so eyes need a couple of minutes to get accustomed. It's like driving into a tunnel in a sunny day. At first tunnel seems very dark, until your eyes get accustomed to new light conditions. I'd say that the biggest problem that people might have is how demanding Beyond is on GPU. If you don't own 7900XTX / 4080 / 4090, I would strongly discourage anyone from buying Beyonds. Your GPU will not be able to output smooth framerate unless you sacrifice the resolution, but that defies the purpose of owning high resolution VR headset like beyond, because with lower resolution, your perceived image quality won't be any better than of Quest 3. I mainly ordered Beyonds, because of how light and tiny they are, and on this front it exceeded expectations. Beyonds are secure on the face with very little clamping force even when shaking head. To me, that's a very big deal as I mostly play VR games that are somewhat physically demanding. When moving a lot, the size and weight of the headset is actually the biggest factor of the image quality.
I sold my Index for 600 which paid for my quest 3. The people buying an index today are so misinformed. I mean, I'll take your money, but Jesus, do not do what the guy I sold it to did. The quest 3 is such a massive upgrade. Coolest piece of tech I've owned. Even the pros of the index aren't all they're cracked up to be, except for the sound. The tracking isn't as flawless as people say. If you take your controllers and put them against each other at arms length and spin around you see them drifting all over the place in relation to each other. The q3 doesn't do that. I don't have to mention the visuals because it's such a blow out. AND It's wireless!
Thanks for the information. I have been using The Vive XR Elite for about 16 months. I spend half my life in hotels and travel with my headset so space is a big deal, tht's why I'm looking at the Beyond. I've gotten used to the tunnel effect of the less-than-idea FOV so that will not be a big problem. I don't like that I need to get at least one base station to carry but it is probably still smaller than the Vive plus the battery. I think mine might be one of those particular situations where this headset checks the most boxes. On a side note, the reason that I need to replace my XR Elite is that a very poor design causes the arm that connects the headset to the battery to break right where the built-in speaker is located. This happened the first time under warranty so they replaced it but it happened a second time (even though I was very careful with it, knowing the issue). It was 3 months out of warranty and they want up to $480 to fix/replace it. So I'm turned off of Vive now. Any additional input you or others might have would be appreciated.
Looks like a lovely form factor. Currently a Quest2 user sporadicly, although I am always impressed with the quest updates; they don't screw things up and often actually improve the device usability. Tempted to buy a Quest3 when and if a sale pressents.
I think I (and maybe also you) are not the perfect target demographic for the Beyond. I honestly thought about getting one, but I can't live without wireless anymore, the sharing is definitely an issue, and usually when I play I want to just quickly jump in and have some fun. I think if you are the type of VR player who spends hours and hours in VRChat, or any other game, it's pretty cool that you can have something this light and high quality to enjoy for such long sessions. I personally don't really mind the weight of the Quest 3, but I have the neck of an ox and don't really play that long...
Wow. As a PCVR guy, I was thinking about pulling the trigger…You put this beautifully and your review is balanced. I probably would have been more brutal. The things you highlighted are massive flaws that unfortunately make this headset definitely a no go. Thanks for the video.
I saw you remove the interface at one point. Why can't you get extra interfaces for others to use? Or replace it if you want to sell it? Or replace it when it gets old?
I use it only for Simracing and without this gasket. Only the strapmod and the nose adapter and it’s great and I see the edges of the screen. The latency is fantastic
I have base stations because I own Index, and only rarely have others try it - so I’m the nearly perfect demographic for this. Just hard to swallow that price to trade higher refresh rate, superb audio, and higher FOV to get greatly increased comfort, resolution, contrast, and less light leaks. Even excluding the potential fitting issues and the additional cost of accessories (head strap, prescription lenses), I will probably only go with the Beyond if my Index dies before next gen hardware becomes available.
fair points except i don't think turning up or down the render resolution slider in steamVR really qualifies as tinkering. I'm usually adjust this game-to-game no matter what headset I am using.
Thank you for saving me a bunch of money. I currently own the 256 GB Q2, and love it. I am going to get the Q3 w only 128 GB. I currently need a new music production computer. I’ve been waiting for Apple to update the Mac mini. I’m still thinking about building my first PC. Do you build your own PCs? Would you wait to see what happens with ARM chips?
Not being able to share it is a full deal breaker for me. I live with my gf who is also into VR and gaming. We both have a Quest 2 and when I upgraded to a Quest 3, she didn't think it'd make sense for her to get one too as she uses VR less than me. Now she uses my Quest 3 for Super Natural and a few apps when I'm not using it. I rather have an IPD slider than to have a "perfect fit" which may or may not be perfect.
I think if they put an ipd slider in it and made a stock facial interface, probably lowering the cost cause its no longer custom fit, and allowing shareability, it wouldnt be a minimal amount of bulk, reduce the price (no longer totally custom) and be a lot more approachable for general market consumers. It would absolutely blow up, not just be for enthusiasts
difficult to say, but if u get it right.. it is i hope mine is okay, already -2mm from Optometrist, and scanned my face with natural lighting 👍 i might need to ask for thinner cushion to max the fov and e2eclarity
I think they should have made this higher priced as a real luxury headset. It kind of already is if you have to scan your face. But the lack of FOV seems like a really bizarre oversight. A cheap strap that comes stock. I think they should have just built a dream headset instead of opting halfway there hoping to entice some average consumer.
Maybe to keep the weight, cost and size down they couldn't have a fov slider, inside out tracking or passthrough. I can see how some sacrifices have to be made for a small form factor.
As an avid VR enthusiast I just want to chime in and share my 2 cents. I feel strongly that it’s very import to note that all other caveats aside, any headset that utilizes LCD lenses to me is not ideal at all for VR. Most notably any game that has a dark moody realistic atmosphere will suffer in visual quality with LCD lenses that being said gamers that play games that have constantly well lit lighting templates won’t notice too much of a difference with LCD but as soon as dark nights and dark ambient atmospheric lighting templates come into play LCD is absolutely terrible with displaying those environments. The Big Screen Beyond uses Mirco OLED lenses and in my gaming preference is far superior for that reason alone because for realistic looking games especially at night and in dark interiors what good is more FOV or a larger sweet spots purpose if all that’s being seen is grey and washed out blacks and non vivid colors by proxy. So the summery is , it depends on the types of games that gamers like to play if they’re well lit then any modern LCD headset will do, if they’re darker ambient realistic looking games , then OLED, Micro OLED is pretty much necessary in order to get the best visuals , the new Batman Arkham Shadow is the perfect example that it is a superior AAA experience however does not achieve its fullest atmospheric and visual potential due to the Meta Quest exclusivity and the LCD lenses that come along with that, which Meta now uses. If ever the game is allowed on other platforms and players are able to compare LCD to OLED with that title they will then see a substantial notable improvement in the lighting templates and thus the overall immersion of the environments in that game just as an example.
I ordered one and have been waiting for about 3 months now. I like the form factor and I definitely wish more headsets would use external batteriesthat you could attach to a belt or something. I thought it would be super comfortable and give a beautiful picture, but now I'm considering cancelling my order since I'm hearing more negative stuff about the hard settings being wrong in delivery. Now I'm 3 months in deciding if I want to cancel it. I wish they choose to go in a complete different direction with the IPD. It delays the hell out of the unit it seems and I'm worried that I'll get it and have to send it back just to wait again.
i ordered mine about a month and a half ago. i got the notification on my phone just today that it's finally shipping. i haven't used a VR headset in a while, so i'm pretty excited but anxious of the possible issues i'll face. a lot of people in the bigscreen discord have brought up issues similar to yours. makes me worry just a little bit.
I have owned quite a few VR head sets and they all make my eyes tired after long use with the Q3 being the best/least tiring on my eyes. I therefore find myself mainly using big triples. Still have hopes that these optical issues can be worked out in the future.
I just ordered one with the Audio headstrap, i have a quest 3 for stand up gaming but i mostly play Elite Dangerous and i wanted an OLED panel and better comfort.
I couldn’t see myself trying to get that little headset lol pass through is something I’ve grown to love overtime as well. Nice pecs 😉 What controllers do you use for it? I don’t know if you said or not
I get that an IPD adjuster would change the form factor, specifically its size ... But that process they make you go through is terrifying. I just dont have time to jump through all those hoops, wait for it in the mail, just to find out I measured wrong or something.
Great review thanks for pointing out things others didn'!! Which I feel the same way like it's great if you want a light simmer HMD with great picture as the other one I would recomand would be the Pimax Crsytal which that solves all the negative at the cost of being a KG and can be hrad to set up though apetaly that is fixed now.
I agree with you. I was soooo excited to receive my unit. Since, I think I have used it about a dozen times. I find myself using my Q3 more than anything. Less compromises. Needless to say. I very disappointed in the unit itself. The company etc seems like a great bunch.
Thank you for your video. I love the Index Knuckles but I was looking for an either wireless or less clunky solution when playing VR and the quest Pro is my main PCVR headset as well.
I REALLY wanted a bigscreen beyond but when the first reviews came out i knew it was not for me. For starters, worse lenses than the quest 3 and no passthrough. Then there was the Brightness and persistence issues. And finally, something you missed, in order to get 90 fps it has to Run at a lower resolution and then upscale which makes the blur worse. On top of that i have come to enjoy wireless
FOV is pretty important to me, but needing an Apple account is also a problem. I just don't have much enthusiasm for this product other than the resolution (which, according to you, is compromised in a way I wouldn't like).
Slight feedback. A vr device made for viewing (bigscreen is a video streaming app) needs also a dedicated chapter on watching 3d movies etc. It might be really good for just that.
You game above 90 hz often? I think im turned off by the drooping issue after dropping 1600 bones on this setup. I havent bought it but would like it for long sculpting sessions.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Interesting, I try to do 120, just doesn't always perform for some games. I think im turned off by the drooping issue for the BSB after dropping 1600 bones on this setup. I havent bought it but would like it for long sculpting sessions.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 3080ti with a quest 2 and a 12900K cpu, default Oculus/steam resolution. I think most of my tests were with HalfLife Alyx. That game tends to be buggy with textures loading in with the wrong resolutions for whatever reason. The clarity just seems to be a lot better at 90Hz or lower. I don't put in necessary the time to figure all this out I imagine. I get tired from my own computer graphics work, and don't wish to fiddle around heh.
I held off on buying it because it's too dim. I read that it's less than half as bright as the Vive Pro, and I just couldn't the Vive Pro to render sunlight correctly for me.
I'm having the same issues with the bigscreen. It was really clear in the one eye that worked and I'm waiting on them to fix and ship me a new wone with a new IPD and a new face gasket. It was extremely clear when I did get to use the one eye. I was a bit worried about the FOV, but the IPD was so off I couldn't use it. I also agree about the audio, that defiantly needs to come with it. I also just got a Quest Pro. Its a bit cheaper and has eye tracking and face tracking and audio. The Pro has better visuals then the index imo, but way worse then the bigscreen. With the price the pro is now (I got mine from ebay but new), I would say its better for the price. I have my fingers crossed the Bigscreen is going to replace my Index for wired pcvr.
I was using the quest pro for the better colors, audio, eye/facial tracking and local dimming. The resolution is high enough coming from an Index and at the resolution I guarantee no reprojection on max setting 120 fps
As for me my quest 3 is perfect for doing what I want though it could be better like removeable storage... And making quest link the same as native hand/figure tracking and MR not limited to 3rd party apps... And I don't need a thusend USD Headset when I have my thusend USD Sony bravia OLED TV which I may like the picture of more... However is Apple vision pro drops to $500 or less on ebay I'll get one or the xbox quest 3 is a $200 steaming machine I could use for youtube and writing though I may just use AR glasses for that... Which tanks for mentioning them in the viedeo!
The name is a bit misleading - I thought one of the selling points of this headset aside from its small form factor, was the "big screen". But with a small FOV, I guess I'll wait for something else. I really don't care about having a smaller headset (I've had both Oculus Rift and Rift S and now a Quest 3, so I'm used to the bulk anyway), I just want a good, clear headset for sim racing.
My main problems is they is no ipd adjustment and the thing is mould d to your face so it's a hard headset to share which is a shame because its so small
@@bigmakbm1 You can configure the Quest 3 to display an amazing image with PCVR wirelessly by super sampling and connecting through Virtual desktop but you need a dedicated 6e router for the required bandwidth and at least an RTX 3070. Add ~ $800 for those, but the image is awesome and the sweet spot is huge.
Looking for a new PCVR headset one day that's similar in size to this, has off ear audio (or im hoping futre headsets can link into my surround sound system for audio), wireless, and comes with controllers and everything in one box. $1000 for the bigscreen beyond? Naaah
This seems to have an intended purpose, viewing media. It feels like that tight sweet spot would be a distraction. We've been spoiled by Quest in so many ways at this point, it's hard to go back to wired, we are all accustomed to passthrough, plus it's still hard to sell consumers on PC. Clearly this isn't for me. Even for people who it IS for, it feels like it still needs some polish. BTW, I missed the part about controllers. How are you playing games, does it automatically work with any conteollers?
Really disappointing to hear the custom IPD types of things aren't all that great. An oldster who now requires more than one set of progressive lenses, with each eye at a different focus, being able to have excellent prescription VR lenses and proper IPD is a major issue. (Protip: if using progressives, you use your distance Rx for VR lenses.)
Thanks for the review. Sounds to me like one of the most honest ones out there. NOT to name names lol but a lot of the reviews sound like shills. lol I've been hesitant to get this and you validated my main reasons why. "you mean I have to track someone down with an iphone for that face scan?" then I started hearing about peoples IPD issue/sweet spot issues. The other two reasons, your issues with sweet spot vs blurriness outside it and FOV plus the cost .... To many red flags with this. It's unfortunate though cause the size is right where it needs to me in my opinion for VR and bigger picture, for mass adoption. No one really wants some massive, bulky thing on their face but something small and sleek like this... lol stay with this size but improve FOV, sweet spot, forgo apple face scan and you've hooked me lol thanks again. :)
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Really? Is it good? I have been using the Quest 3 to play Black myth Wukong, but it's too bulky and uncomfortable. I've seen people say it crashes when they try to run a 2D game.
Quest 3 works great as a PCVR headset! Inside out tracking, full color pass through so you can find your coffee mug on your desk ( very important), and compared to pimax, the Q3 controllers are premium! I just returned my Crystal and definitely appreciate the Q3 even more now! will hold on to my Q3 until I see what the future holds in 2-5 years.
you just paid for pimax, and you won't get it for months to come. when it finally arrives, shit will be broken as usual. 'inside out with controllers' doesnt mean anything. pimax makes unusable stuff
I was set to order but was prevented because they ONLY allowed iPhones for face scanning. When I told them I didn't have an iphone and they are not popular where I am they said to ask a random dude to use their phone? Like did a VR company just imply I should mug someone to buy their headset? Yeah I lost all interest right there, you cannot claim to be a serious company with a future if buying your $1000 device requires buying or stealing an $800 niche phone with a shrinking 30% worldwide market share, thats just absurd. Shame, it looks like a good idea but its being held back by the dumbest reason possible.
You just sound pretty stupid. Tell me one non Apple easily available device that can scan with high precision with lidar. If you live in a place where freaking IPHONES are niche, WTF are you doing looking at $1000 headset for dead pcvr? What are you even planning to do with it? I bet you're vrchat freak
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Awesome 👍 Too bad your are missing out on a Reverb G2, one of the best PCVR hmd at the price point - only downside is WMR. I would have cringed if you said Quest 2/3 as it is definitely not of the same quality because of compression. I'm patiently waiting for the Crystal Light. Rift S was my first entry into VR.
@bigmakbm1 quest 3 even with compression honestly is really good. Wifi 6, the right setup and steam link, the visuals are better than my index for sure
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I really haven't found the best way. I also have a Quest and WiFi 6e and I can absolutely see how bad it looks. That being said some games look better than others. Games with a lot of small details like Talos Principal VR look really bad on wireless or even link. The only good thing I can take from the wireless experience is that it usually runs better because of lower render resolution compared to the G2. I can't even run Green Hell VR decently native DP.
@@bigmakbm1 have you tried virtual desktop, lots of settings to tweak to really dial it in. If you pc wired to the router? Both my pico4 and quest 3 have looked great
This is actually the most honest review I’ve heard yet, I didn’t like it at all for the same reasons. The quest 3 is just an all around better headset imo.
Tell them to fix the driver situation with nvidia. So many users crashing when joining rooms. Devs say to downgrade to old driver. How about just fix it :)
If they fix glare and sweet spot, this headset will be perfect! Brightness and FOV is pretty damm good so no complain about that. Please Bigscreen, forget the pointless eye tracking tech you guys working on, work on the lense instead
Given the state of PCVR I'm hard pressed to call a $1,000 PC only headset that requires base stations and controllers, and can only be used by one person in our household the best. Certainly not the best for my needs or most people’s budget.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I'm sure for someone it is, I am simply not that someone. Just the ability to take the headset somewhere else to play games or watch movies is a feature that's important to me and which I use regularly, and that likely isn't the case for many others who would be perfectly fine with a headset made to just stay in one place like this one is.
heads-up maybe interesting for your news videos... valve indexes are officially out of stock and valve is no longer promoting them on the front page. we could see a new headset soon from them.
Please change your title to just "Dont buy". Complaining more than anything else isn't how to review a product. Makes me wonder why you even made this video in the first place.
After 10 yrs on VR.... Comfort and software..... Thats all VR needs.... The comfort can be so unbearable on some of these devices..... That you just stop....
I agree with you on everything but pass through nice but not really mandatory. Just minor passed through not like on my quest 3. PS I use my pimax crystal the most clarity is much better and I have a big head so it fits better. Even though I have the Bobo VR for the quest 3 I still prefer to fit of the pimax crystal.
Hmmm, 🤔 you would think a headset called, Big Screen Beyond would at least offer a Big Screen. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. I just made my Full Payment for my pre-order of the Pimax Crystal Light with Local dimming and that Light house Face plate. I am excited! 😉👌

That's the size headsets need to accomplish for mass adoption
Apple should be able to achieve this formfactor soon with their external battery design.Their new iPad Pro is super thin...
No kidding and also great AR so that VR isn’t so isolating
@@森里螢一-f3c AR/VR is much more complex than Ipad Pro. It'll consume more power that means it needs more capacity
I disagree, the real problem is there are many people whom had never tried vr including the so called haters
Every VR headset I buy has to at least be lighter than last. I'm not buying anything like the Quest 2 ever again.
Let me know what you think about it
I love my beyond but it is definitely for certain people with specific use cases. I use mine on a 6dof motion platform sim rig and wouldn’t use anything else at this point for that use case. I prefer my quest 3 more for many room scale applications and wireless and MR. But the beyond definitely beats the quest on the sim rig hands down!
I have a 4dof sim rig and am contemplating between this or the pimax crystal light.... really tough.
Im a reverb g2 user so curious on your thoughts.
Thanks, and always appreciate your honest reviews. Happy Wednesday!
Index is STILL the best overall platform out. A real credit to Valve when they can focus for more than 5 seconds.
Needing to do the face scan to get the right interface shape might be an example of “perfect is the enemy of good”.
Thanks a lot for the review. I also don't think this my next upgrade. I'm still on my G2 and I think about buying the pimax crystal light with local dimming but I would love to hear your opinion on it if you have the chance. Keep up the amazing work!
I tried the crystal which I wasn't a fan off and it appear pimax has completely cut me off for being honest
It's easy to focus on the negatives in these clips, but he did say that it's comfortable enough to wear all day, which is no small thing for vr.
The form factor is exciting, and I could give up standalone and pass through, but not IPD adjustment, inside out tracking and wireless.
Thanks for an honest review. I think this is video gives a good roadmap for things to consider for version 2.

Thanks!
Great honest review. Thank you!
Awesome review, way better than the rest I’ve found!! You brought up points that a lot of people didn’t consider and it gave me a way better perspective on the product. Thank you!!!
glad you enjoyed it
I got my IPD measured by my optometrist and they gave me two numbers because each eye is a slightly different distance from the center of my nose.
I'll definitely buy from them when I can connect controllers I already have
Thanks for the excellent review!!
My quest 3 blew my valve index out of the water in almost every aspect, probably apart from the slight FOV reduction

You certainly can/will be able to! Extra face cushions will be available on Bigscreen's web store within the next few weeks.
Render resolution, in game settings or headset refresh rate. The tinkering is finding the sweet spot of all settings
I rather have an IPD slider than to have a "perfect fit" which may or may not be perfect.
re: productivity - viewing multiple work screens - is the fuzziness around the edges a problem reading text?
I think if they put an ipd slider in it and made a stock facial interface, probably lowering the cost cause its no longer custom fit, and allowing shareability, it wouldnt be a minimal amount of bulk, reduce the price (no longer totally custom) and be a lot more approachable for general market consumers. It would absolutely blow up, not just be for enthusiasts
difficult to say, but if u get it right.. it is
i hope mine is okay, already -2mm from Optometrist, and scanned my face with natural lighting 👍
i might need to ask for thinner cushion to max the fov and e2eclarity
As always, I love the honesty
I think they should have made this higher priced as a real luxury headset. It kind of already is if you have to scan your face. But the lack of FOV seems like a really bizarre oversight. A cheap strap that comes stock. I think they should have just built a dream headset instead of opting halfway there hoping to entice some average consumer.
FOV and Brightness is pretty damm good. Only glare and sweet spot is problem
I don’t really feel like I need any higher resolution than the quest 3. I do however want an oled screen, and a direct pc connection.
i ordered mine about a month and a half ago. i got the notification on my phone just today that it's finally shipping. i haven't used a VR headset in a while, so i'm pretty excited but anxious of the possible issues i'll face. a lot of people in the bigscreen discord have brought up issues similar to yours. makes me worry just a little bit.
Great review
FOV is pretty important to me, but needing an Apple account is also a problem. I just don't have much enthusiasm for this product other than the resolution (which, according to you, is compromised in a way I wouldn't like).
Slight feedback. A vr device made for viewing (bigscreen is a video streaming app) needs also a dedicated chapter on watching 3d movies etc. It might be really good for just that.
Makes sense but they don't even promote the headset that way
You game above 90 hz often? I think im turned off by the drooping issue after dropping 1600 bones on this setup. I havent bought it but would like it for long sculpting sessions.
Always. 120hz ever since the index it's much better for recording too since I make videos at 60fps
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Interesting, I try to do 120, just doesn't always perform for some games. I think im turned off by the drooping issue for the BSB after dropping 1600 bones on this setup. I havent bought it but would like it for long sculpting sessions.

@JPWestmas completely understandable. The issue could be the wifi setup there. I'd expect a 3080ti to pull off 120fps on q2
I have my fingers crossed the Bigscreen is going to replace my Index for wired pcvr.
thank you for this video :) very informative !

Love what they tried to do with this headset. No IPD change and low FOV are deal breakers for me.
I thought the same and now I have a bigscreen and for simracing it’s a great unit
Hmm, my only question is why are you using the Quest Pro for PCVR and not your Quest 3? The Quest 3 is brilliant for PCVR.
I was using the quest pro for the better colors, audio, eye/facial tracking and local dimming. The resolution is high enough coming from an Index and at the resolution I guarantee no reprojection on max setting 120 fps
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 fair enough...
Good points, great video.
I've heard similar views from others. "It's good, really good. Not good enough for the price."
Quest 3 is kicking dem a$$. That sale around the holidays gonna set off standalone VR past the consoles. Only game to save them is GTA 6.
I really don't care about having a smaller headset (I've had both Oculus Rift and Rift S and now a Quest 3, so I'm used to the bulk anyway), I just want a good, clear headset for sim racing.
big screen is there software application that came out years ago
Unless you're playing a chair sim (airplanes, cars), headsets need to be wireless for moving games

My main problems is they is no ipd adjustment and the thing is mould d to your face so it's a hard headset to share which is a shame because its so small
Which is better with Big Screen or oculus quest 3 ?
Different categories but quest 3 is a lot more practical, properly the better choice for most people
I would say quest 3 for use. Bigscreen if you want it to look cool on your desk.
Quest 3 for standalone games. Definitely not for PCVR unless you love lower visual quality.
@bigmakbm1 why would you say it's lower visual quality though?
@@bigmakbm1 You can configure the Quest 3 to display an amazing image with PCVR wirelessly by super sampling and connecting through Virtual desktop but you need a dedicated 6e router for the required bandwidth and at least an RTX 3070. Add ~ $800 for those, but the image is awesome and the sweet spot is huge.
It’s still first gen vr, tethered and still feels like goggles. Wide fov is a requirement, I still can’t look over my shoulder
Works with other base station controllers. Vive wands. Index controllers ect. I'm using my index controllers
why is it so much more expensive when you live in Europe???You almost have to pay 50% more that is insane
It's because they roll in VAT, shipping, and import fees. This way, everything you pay is up front, and you don't get any surprise nasty import fees.
I got mine with prescription lens inserts. They are $80
Thanks for the review. :)

Shame, it looks like a good idea but its being held back by the dumbest reason possible.
felt the same way, good thing my sis has an iphone. lovin the beyond
If the hypothetical Quest 4 can achieve that size at $500, the future of VR is locked in
Unlikely because mobile vr still needs a battery
@@Gamingwithmatteo311if they did something like Apple with the battery I don’t think anyone would mind
So what other PCVR headsets do you own?
Htc vive
Vive pro
Cosmos
Rift S
Index
Pimax 8kx
Pimax crystal
Joining what rooms
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Bigscreen VR rooms.
The price is simply too high for me to get one. 1369 EUR if you live in Europe.
Jeez.... If I paid that much and I'd probably have to drive that headset to work. I might have to live in it as well.
🤣😂🤣
PLUS a full light house set (if you don't have already): another 600 EUR
TLDR of video: wait for valve index 2, no headset is ideal atm :D
@@midlan6 might be waiting forever. Pick up a Quest 3 or 3s in the meantime
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Yep, that's exactly what I ended up.
No inside out tracking is a big put off for me.
If they fix glare and sweet spot, this headset will be perfect! Brightness and FOV is pretty damm good so no complain about that. Please Bigscreen, forget the pointless eye tracking tech you guys working on, work on the lense instead
Does it come with a pc😅
It's so small
I thank you for this review. You saved me a 1000 dollars. I am looking to upgrade my Valve index, I am thinking this is not the one.
Pimax is really the only other option.
yeah on the same boat maybe looking at pimax now
Given the state of PCVR I'm hard pressed to call a $1,000 PC only headset that requires base stations and controllers, and can only be used by one person in our household the best. Certainly not the best for my needs or most people’s budget.
Exactly, I definitely didn't call it the best
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I'm sure for someone it is, I am simply not that someone. Just the ability to take the headset somewhere else to play games or watch movies is a feature that's important to me and which I use regularly, and that likely isn't the case for many others who would be perfectly fine with a headset made to just stay in one place like this one is.
heads-up maybe interesting for your news videos... valve indexes are officially out of stock and valve is no longer promoting them on the front page.
we could see a new headset soon from them.
cope
