Nice run to film. I am putting the finishing touches on a few new kits along the Cumbres & Toltec, such as Cumbres Pass, Osier, and Sublette structures. Glad you got a chance to take this trip. - Mike McCarville
Nice ride Jason, glad you all had a great time. I was picking up a load in Antonito about 15 or so years ago and had a weekend to kill went to the station and they were still close for winter I missed it by 2 weeks UGH, never made it back but still on my bucket list
Holy smokes - literally! that one still running on coal? the smoke in your shots at the end was really something! Definitely adding this one to my list! Great video.
Thanks John! Yeah, they said if we was to go out on the Gondola Car, we need eye protection for the cinders but I found out the hard way, you need sun protection too...lol.
I honestly don't remember. It was a buffet but I do remember them posting it on their website. Food IMHO was really good and they also had Vegan options for those with food allergies.
Is there another scenic train ride you would recommend? Let me know below!
Two words: WOW! BEAUTIFUL!!
Exactly!
Wow! Awesome video Jason. Hope the whole family had a great time on the trip.
Thanks John!
Gotta love it!
We did too! Amanda and I are talking about when we are going back to ride in the parlor car.
@@TheTrainFreak I think its hard to beat in the open gondola with a beer in hand. ;)
Parlor car allows you to access that open deck on the back, with a beer in hand...lol.
Fantastic job on the video, just love these old trains 🚂. Great photography, it’s so green everywhere there. 👍👍🤩
Thanks! I was told they had a lot of rain the past month by a local.

Yes they did. I live in Denver, I’m only 5 hours from Chama. Been there and rode 484, but raining and cold end of September 2021.

Thanks Mike! Those will be some neat structures!
My god how beautiful that is. Im definitely going to take that trip. Just amazing Jason oh i hope your sunburn is doing better. What fun
Thanks Chris! Man I peeled like a ripe onion but without the smell. I am good to go now! Your tour video should be up for this Sunday.
@TheTrainFreak ok, glad your not suffering

Thanks Ray! Yeah they only operate the snow blower before they season starts.

I am planning to do this in October with fall foliage it would look pretty
Awesome! Not sure how much foliage you'll see as most of the trees were evergreen but it's beautiful no matter what!
Cool!!
Thanks Robert!
"wolf creek pass way upon the great divide, truckin' on down the other side"
Isn't that over by Pagosa Springs?
it is specificaly 3 ft narrow gauge. Cape Gauge (the narrow gauge used in Japan and parts of africa) is 3ft 6in gauge.
Yes, it is exactly 3 foot in gauge. There might of been some logging RR's that used 3'6" but I wouldn't know of any from the top of my head.
What was on the menu for lunch?
I honestly don't remember. It was a buffet but I do remember them posting it on their website. Food IMHO was really good and they also had Vegan options for those with food allergies.
So the locomotive in the video is 484 but where is 488, 463 and 489
To my understanding, they are rotated but I'm sure there is more information online.
488 and 463 are in service. 489 is being put back together after getting work on its running gear and a new firepan.
I feel sorry for 487
Why is that?
@@TheTrainFreak because it’s in for repairs
All of them go through from time to time so they can keep them running.
