Ok, thanks for the comment and the feedback back, I’m new at the sitting in front of the camera type of YouTubing but I take on board and will improve. Thanks for letting me Know. 👍
At 56 years old, cost me about 1k for direct access and £350 for my insurance on an 10 year old vstrom 650. Not cheap. I know young people trying to get insurance on a modest machine are being forced out of motorcycling.
Simon i used to teach cbt's and i remember a student doing his 6th cbt, he did the first 5 on automatic scooters but then transferred onto a geared 125, he rode his geared 125 to our training school on his current cbt certificate. His mate had tried to teach him the clutch and gears etc, he was horrendous, i dont know how he made it to the training school, if you do training on an automatic thats all you should be able to ride.
I'm on my second KTM, and they certainly bring an air of excitement when riding them. I had a 1290 SAS new and put 16,000 miles on it, all trouble free. My current KTM 890 Adventure is wicked. 22 model purchased new in 2023 and I've just put over 10,000 miles on it. It certainly fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch, but I like it. Commute on it most days, it makes working for a living, a little more enjoyable 😁
There are 90 000 000 people in Vietnam ..of those 90 million ..77 million own a motorcycles 🙄🙄"so for every two adults ..one owns a bike , thats a lot of oil .service .parts .jobs for mechanics ..ect its easy to get a licence . Exactly this. The U.K bike scene has always been tentative and seasonal, our crappy climate has a lot to do with it also. In Asia bikes aren’t toys, they are crucial mode of transport and in many Asian markets they are the no 1 transport especially south east asia. You go to Asia and bike business is booming year in year out. The U.K. bike scene isn’t anywhere near the vibe like in Asia. You can literally step outside of your hotel and next door hire a Motorcycle with ease, some places you don’t even need a license.
I do pay attention to the owners forums because I was interested in buying a 890R I think the media blows the problem up, you’ll only hear the bad and not the good.
@@thatbikersimon that's true of all bike forums unfortunately for KTM they refused to acknowledge their customers concerns until it was way too late and their reputation has taken a big hit. Their dealer network for such a massive manufacturer is abysmal.
The problem with bike dealers is that the UK market is very small, a fraction of that for cars, and yet they are still forced by manufacturers to build multi-million £ glass palaces, and they need to be paid for! The figures just don't stack up, low sales volumes and slim dealer margins just don't cover the dealer overheads.
My opinion toward KTM wold be slightly different i shall think: Firstly, wrong policy. The financial problems are lasting now for about a year or so. That in mind, please tell me to which sense they bought MV Agusta??? Secondly, the quality problems do last much longer than admitted by Mr Pierer. When examining KTMs history, you'll surely get the impression of growth at any costs. Thirdly: How can they manage to afford the ultra expensive Moto GP by now? And in the forth place: KTM does not get anyones sympathy shifting production to china, shifting know-how at the same time, buildung up competition from there, only in order to make short term profits, firing employees in austria at the same time. And there are many more issues i could write about. At last, perhaps Mr. Pierer now receives the bill for wanting to grow too quick. Or how else would you interprete the fact that even Bajaj, the main shareholder, is not willing to pay any more to KTM? Share price has gone down about 90 percent... I'm afraid its a complete disaster. The only thing is i am very sorry for the austrian employees who suffer from false decisions of the KTM managers...
Interesting points that you made. Speaking as someone who is above the average age and getting back into biking, I’ve been horrified at the cost of a new bike and I think a lot of it is down to the tech’ that’s on most modern bikes. The last bike I had in 2016 was a 1200GSA I had a look for something similar and it was getting on for £26k, even a good Adventure bike in the 900-1100 bracket is £15-19K. I’ve managed to get a great deal on a T7Rally RAID at a local dealer. I have to say though one of the reasons I went for the Yamaha was the way I was treated when I walked into the showroom. I went into the local Triumph / KTM and wasn’t even said “hello” too in there. Not looking for the red carpet, just a “hi, can I help you”.
A lot of big dealership are very corporate and I’ve experienced the same and yes you certainly pay for the tech now. There’s a good second hand market now. So save on the depreciation and still get a new ish bike under warranty.
Simon , their main issue is cost. I bought a new 450excf in nov2019 and was $11,400 on road here in Queensland. Now they’re asking $18 grand just 4yr later. Not only is that the main reason they’ve dropped 27% in sales but their reputation is poor and getting worse.
Yes this is very true, there’s many factors why they’ve got themselves in this predicament and price is definitely one of them. Let’s hope they have a rescue plan in place
I own 2019 790 Duke and 125 Duke with zero issues so far. Most of keyboard warriors shouting over cams don’t even own KTM. I don’t say that some bikes did not have issues, but it is so small percentage that nobody is mentioning. And KTM covers that with goodwill. KTM makes great bikes and I wish them fast recovery. They do bring something different to the table and world of motorcycles is better with them. Now is maybe best chance to get new KTM with good pricing. I wish KTM and all other motorcycle brands all the best. Am just thankful on variety of bikes we have today.
It's great to hear that both your 2019 KTM 790 Duke and 125 Duke have been trouble-free! Your perspective as a satisfied KTM owner adds a valuable discussions about camshaft issues. While some riders have reported problems, it's true that vocal online critics often amplify concerns, and those without firsthand experience may add to the noise. Happy riding, and may your KTMs continue to deliver miles of smiles! 🏍️
Ita quite sad really, KTM just decided to bring their big bikes here to india. Im hoping Bajaj buys a majority share and brings this company back to life, but doesnt tamper with the R&D
What did they expect charging 11k for enduro bikes.. that loose 4k straight out of the showroom door. The E-bike mtb market will crumble next. Overpriced bikes with a host of problems. People are sick of it.
Who’s knows, I guess the next 90 days will be the crucial part, I’m hoping they can put something in place. The new bikes look great but it need the investment and infrastructure to back it up.
Dealers won't give good trade-in deals so owners don't upgrade, guess what happens then... where I live there are a lot of young bikers around so there is some hope but their buying power does not mean they are buying new bikes, either.
I not sure how they did it but a lot of the surviving dealers are now doing rider training and courses for L and P or CBT for motorcycle licenses as well as advanced training and off-road training courses also they are now renting bikes out and doing group tours and riding classes. They have started clubs and club rides as well. Members pay a $150 AUD yearly membership. They also been working with cafes and restaurants to organise monthly meetings some have even built an in house cafe and members area.
Sad news for KTM and I am assuming they’re associated brands. I personally would not buy one, not because they are not good but primarily because they are too tall. It baffles me that manufacturers are so fixed on building tall bikes, are they only for the Dutch??, I get that if you are a competitive rider you need the suspension travel but the majority of us are not at the same level as the Chris Birch or Adam Riemann so we really don’t need the ultimate machines for our adventures, they could produce a quality bike with a lower seat height and a special bike focused on hard off road riders and you have a choice of which to buy, a bit like an SP version on sports bikes. As for licensing, okay keep the CBT as an introduction to motorcycles with no time limit but a limit to capacity as per the 125cc or allow it to reach 250cc if you have 2 or 3 years under your belt, then just have 1 test as it was back in the day, once you have proved you are in control of a bike then the only thing you need is more experience on the road. In my opinion bike riders make better car drivers in so far as they are more aware of the things around them on the road, which unfortunately car drivers seem to forget.
Totally agree with you on both points! The tall seat height on many bikes is definitely a barrier for a lot of riders. While some of us can manage, it does feel like manufacturers miss the mark by not offering more approachable options. Having a lower seat height variant alongside a hardcore off-road version would make so much sense, especially for riders who want adventure capability without feeling like they're scaling Everest at every stoplight! As for licensing, simplifying the process while maintaining a focus on skill and experience would be fantastic. Your idea of extending the CBT to accommodate gradual capacity increases makes a lot of sense, especially for younger or newer riders. And you're spot on-riders tend to be far more situationally aware on the road, which benefits everyone. If only car drivers adopted that mindset too!
It’s the governments way off getting motorbikes off the roads. They can’t ban motorbikes so making it harder & harder to get a license is their way to stopping people buying them.
The government is preparing to ban the sale of ICE motorcycles by 2035. Then it’s only going to be a matter of time after that they will ban ICE vehicles on roads totally.
Tempted a few times by a new 790 Duke but don't need the potential hassle, great bikes otherwise. The cheap 750 Hornet did not help them at all, I would think.
I personally avoided buying the 890 and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 (which I really wanted) because of the camshaft issue and KTM's unwilligness to respond appropriately.
That's a fair point. The camshaft issue has been a dealbreaker for a lot of riders. Im tempted to buy a new 890R now there 11K new with a tech pack included.
For me one of the reasons KTM are in trouble is the fact you purchase a motorcycle from them, then they charge you extra to unlock it for the rider modes, A few manufacturers are introducing electronics, clutchless systems which we don't need and is help making motorcycles both more expensive to purchase and insure. Youngsters and other people are not encouraged to learn, they are not told about the benefits of riding both on mind and sole, Yes the test system needed to be a bit harder than the man with a clipboard when I took my test, the CBT is a good thing! But the DVLA is now self funded is its in their interest to keep test prices up and have the restrictions on bikes. I keep asking why a new motorcyclist is restricted to 46bhp but a the same is not applied to a car driver?
What bugs me is what people have to go through to get a bike license and if your young your limited on power, but u can more easily get a car license and get straight into a super powerful car if u have the cash. 😠
This is so true, let’s face it insurance costs determine what younger riders can have. So making them wait until their 24 years old to obtain a fully unrestricted license is crazy.
perhaps it's because riding a bike requires more skill than driving a car? You are also far more vulnerable should you make a mistake, or someone else does. The fact is, you do something wrong on a bike you're likely to pay for it. Here in France you have to have compulsory training by approved driving/riding school instructors for either a car or bike prior to taking a test (in fact it's actually quite difficult to get a test appointment as a private individual, as most are booked for driving/riding schools) . For bikes you also need to hold an A2 licence for two years before you can take the compulsory 7hrs training required to get your full Cat A licence.
An Administrator is appointed to take charge of the company to try and find another buyer… meanwhile the unsecured creditors will potentially lose out financially. I reckon a rich Indian or Chinese buyer will step in… who’d have guessed it…. Where’s your hot assistant? Missing her in this :(
Its not just the cams, its also the electrical and other mechanical problems, another problem is they produce bikes that are too similar, why make a 790,890 and 990 parallel twin whats the point, also their styling and lack of colours are marmite, another thing is the pricing charging premium pricing for bikes from India and China then adding more cost to unlock the electronics crazy strategy, they obviously haven't been building bikes that people want hence their position.
One of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in Europe? Really? Is that true? I thought most KTMs were made in the far east, by sub-contractors who also manufacture for a number of other brands.
My son is 18 loves bikes but when he found out the hoops and cost for a bike license hes opted for his car licence instead I dont blame him to be honest i done my direct access 26 years ago and cost me about £400 Insurance is a joke he can insure a little 1.0 car for the same price as a 125 on a cbt
Arrogant business with really poor customer service.I soon discounted them from my options when returninh to biking.Sorry but too many better other options.
ou're absolutely right. The rise of Chinese motorcycle brands is shaking up the industry, especially as they focus on affordability while packing their bikes with features. Brands like CFMoto, Voge, and Benelli (under Chinese ownership) are producing bikes that rival traditional manufacturers in terms of technology and quality, often at a fraction of the price. For many riders, especially newer ones or those on a budget, the price difference is becoming harder to ignore.
@@thatbikersimon I started off with the Benelli TRK 502 in 2020, it was heavy, underpowered and a bit unrefined but it was ok for the price. I sold it and bought a used 2021 V Strom 1050XT with 5,000KM on it (it was almost new with little usage) in July this year and all over sudden I'm wondering why I didn't consider the Voge 900DSX. The V-Strom is proven in terms of quality and reliability but it lack the premium features on the Voge900. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW and other will have to think really hard about the future with the rise of Chinese manufacturers and improvement in quality and features.
I own 3 ktms, a 2023 KTM Duke 125, a 2010 KTM 950 SMR and a 2018 KTM Superduke 1290 R. All of them have been reliable enough to use everyday through winters etc. All bikes have their issues and I dont feel like KTM are any worse in terms of reliability.
KTM don’t deserve to survive, with their arrogance . Blamed owners for the chocolate cam issue until social media forced their hand . I’ve had over 30 KTMs in the last 25years but I’ve bought my last . Overpriced and unfinished. Never again .
The problem with the bike industry is that the are letting car groups have all bike franchises who have no idea how to treat bike customers plus they don’t understand the lifestyle so this puts people off then they don’t return so less units are sold long term then this inflates the price Plus insurance
They changed the licence and test to try and get motorcycle's out off the transport system,,a bike is just tolerated ,, so any changes are welcome,,+ the income from the CBT ,, been riding 42 years full licence for 40 ,we had 250 on L plates ,, from northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Ktm is the brand I hated in the past , but love now . They keep challanging themselves . They don’t afraid of experiments and holding the idealism . Only thing they need to do is marketing . Good guys .
Hy mate This is not suprising. Those who got eyes to see, saw this disaster coming more than 2 Years ago. If BMW is sleepy and setting on the Chinese card on the long run, it will end same way. Ideas will copied by CF Moto for no money and BMW or KTM will be hammered with the price. Thats why i will never ever ride a chinese copybike.
Feel sorry for the people who has just got a KTM and dealers who have a showroom full of them, it’s not going to be easy rebuilding the company with that much debt. They are taking like they can just press the reset button but it won’t be down to the owners, someone as got to believe in them and they have already ruined the KTM name.
The biggest mistake KTM ever made was declining the first choice of the intrepid duo doing the Long Way Round, they would not supply the bikes, so they went to BMW who were only too pleased to do so. BMW sold thousands of fully spec'd GS's to riders who never went any further than Tesco's, and their future was assured, whilst KTM just struggled ever since. I would not like to have been the guy in the marketing department who made that decision. 😳
only 2 CBT's - amateur 😂 i passed my full bike test 2 months ago cos i was sick of doing CBT's and i did about 12 of them, got to the stage that when i went to renew it the instructors had me sat on the side watching and went on the road once and at the back lol
@@thatbikersimon 😂😂 yeh probably and never understood why you have to keep taking it every 2 years, or why you have to do a theory test for you main bike test but you can ride for years on the road on a cbt without needing to do one,
What KTM do best is build sub standard bikes that break down and have so many issues. I had a 22 1290s 6 months of ownership, It was in the workshop for 5 months with KTM making pathetic excuses why they could not repair the bike. They blamed a lack of skilled techs as one of the excuses, After 6 months of failing to resolve my bike issues I had enough, rejected the goods and got a full refund. Absolutely awful brand and company. The bikes need to be all thrown in the skip.
A tip for KTM. If/when you do regroup get rid of that; selling bikes fully loaded then turn off some of it's functionallity. That sucks.
Sign of the times I'm afraid. KTM's creditors are the ones who'll really suffer. I generally like your content but the constant swapping of cameras is annoying, please don't.

perhaps it's because riding a bike requires more skill than driving a car?
I believe the bus lane access for motorcyclists has been rejected. See the recent MAG announcement.
Thanks for the update 👍
Far too many models in production. Over 25 models? Thats crazy, over complicated. Far too many to choose from.
Just like a car license. If you pass the test , ride what you want. UK licensing for bikes is a money grab .
Poorly run company. Austrian prices but made in China and a one man executive who makes bad decisions.
Interesting thoughts 🤔 good luck to KTM
Fingers crossed!
My son is 18 loves bikes but when he found out the hoops and cost for a bike license hes opted for his car licence instead
I dont blame him to be honest i done my direct access 26 years ago and cost me about £400
Insurance is a joke he can insure a little 1.0 car for the same price as a 125 on a cbt
That’s crazy, but I know it’s true.
Arrogant business with really poor customer service.I soon discounted them from my options when returninh to biking.Sorry but too many better other options.
I thought they were (are) Austrian ,not Australian.
Nobody’s perfect not even KTM 👍
Fantastic to ride.............when they didn't fail (not just CAM issues)
I was going to buy a new Gas Gas es 500 today which is 11.30.2024 but I am going to hold off now. Good video.
Australian brand? Austrian, my friend.
The Chinese brands will give the traditional motorcycle manufacturers a run for thier money.... Affordability is becoming a key issue.
ou're absolutely right.
That's great to hear you've had a positive experience with your KTMs! It's true that every bike brand can have its quirks, and reliability issues.
One the lucky few... Too many stories that prove the opposite. Happy greetings from "made in Japan" ☺✌
Australian brand ? 😉
lol
KTM don’t deserve to survive, with their arrogance . Blamed owners for the chocolate cam issue until social media forced their hand . I’ve had over 30 KTMs in the last 25years but I’ve bought my last .
Overpriced and unfinished. Never again .
That’s a lot of KTMs. your obviously a fan but would you want to see them go under?
@ no, but if they do it’s their own fault
gr8 nails.
Thanks 😂👍
Change the headlight design and voila! Problem solved
How in God's name has this happened to such a big company!!😱
The problem with the bike industry is that the are letting car groups have all bike franchises who have no idea how to treat bike customers plus they don’t understand the lifestyle so this puts people off then they don’t return so less units are sold long term then this inflates the price
Plus insurance
Bye bye KTM they are going bust, I have a contact in the factory. Workers being laid off 😢😢
Simon, any news on the former Pidcocks dealerships ( Ducati and BMW) being re established.?
It’s finished unfortunately
Australian brand?
I know I messed up 😂👍
They changed the licence and test to try and get motorcycle's out off the transport system,,a bike is just tolerated ,, so any changes are welcome,,+ the income from the CBT ,, been riding 42 years full licence for 40 ,we had 250 on L plates ,, from northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Why keep changing cameras?

How do you say KTM in Mandarin 😅
Kāi-Tí-Mǔ just incase you wanted to know 👍
@thatbikersimon that don't sound to bad 😂
Whats the future of motorcycling? The same as it was before KTM existed. Maybe they should stick with dirt bikes.
Ktm is the brand I hated in the past , but love now . They keep challanging themselves . They don’t afraid of experiments and holding the idealism . Only thing they need to do is marketing . Good guys .
I personally think what they’ve introduced to next years 2025 additions is the best ever. 👍
Hy mate
This is not suprising.
Watch for a Chinese company to buy in.
Well they do make some of there bikes already and thriving globally
Chinese bikes will do to manufacturers what Japanese did to British bike industry, watch this space!
@your probably right
@@RetiredAdventureRider CF Moto????

Austrian not Australian
lol 🤷♂️
KTM Australia never got off the ground, Austria a far better choice....
What you mean it’s not in Australia. 😂 nobody perfect, not even KTM
if you are doing a report at least get the country of origin right ,
Hey this isn’t the bbc 👍
Did he just say Australian brand?! 🤦🏼♂️😬🤣
No it’s was my northern accent 😂👍
Feel sorry for the people who has just got a KTM and dealers who have a showroom full of them, it’s not going to be easy rebuilding the company with that much debt. They are taking like they can just press the reset button but it won’t be down to the owners, someone as got to believe in them and they have already ruined the KTM name.
Why is no-one talking about Road Tax?
The tax that’s doesn’t get spent on the roads
The biggest mistake KTM ever made was declining the first choice of the intrepid duo doing the Long Way Round, they would not supply the bikes, so they went to BMW who were only too pleased to do so. BMW sold thousands of fully spec'd GS's to riders who never went any further than Tesco's, and their future was assured, whilst KTM just struggled ever since. I would not like to have been the guy in the marketing department who made that decision. 😳
In india KTM is doing pretty good business, and we never face any reliability issue.
Doomed defunct round corner
50/50 let’s hope not
only 2 CBT's - amateur 😂 i passed my full bike test 2 months ago cos i was sick of doing CBT's and i did about 12 of them, got to the stage that when i went to renew it the instructors had me sat on the side watching and went on the road once and at the back lol
You certainly get the medal 🥇 or that should go into the Guinness book of records 😂
@@thatbikersimon 😂😂 yeh probably and never understood why you have to keep taking it every 2 years, or why you have to do a theory test for you main bike test but you can ride for years on the road on a cbt without needing to do one,
Maybe we’ll stop seeing the world’s ugliest bikes riding about.
Seriously, I hope they survive.
11:25 Nice video, but, in my opinion, if you choose to commute on a 125, you should be put in a mental institution 😆
Australian brand ??????
I know I know I messed up. Not as bad as KTM did though 😱
"the Australian brand"?? Austrian brand
My mistake 🤷♂️
Well, i guess KTM guys will have to buy BMW's now, hopefully they are just as unreliable....lol
Good riddance to the orange wank. Never like them bikes.
I think what they have coming out for 2025 looks interesting
Good crap bikes 😂😂😂
