What is Personalized Learning?

We all know that students have different learning styles and learn at different paces -- what works for one student does not necessarily work for the rest of the class. Personalized learning offers a new vision for education: one in which students become the center of the learning environment, using technology to support a more individualized learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Impressive, I am a firm believer in personalized learning, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg talked about this recently, before he mentioned it I was already aware of this and was doing some research on it, I think it's about letting students customize their learning, letting the student have more control over what they feel works best for them because every student has different values, it is though a challenge because of the complexity of this model of teaching, thanks for the video :)

Although there are a lot of very helpful ideas in this video, they are not new and it is not about 'personalized learning'. The topic is 'individualized instruction' which has been explored for decades in public education. Until we educators acknowledge that teaching (instruction) is an entirely different activity from learning we will not be able to modify our practices to realize the promise of the computer and internet revolutions. Liza great intro! Makes me think of how much farther and faster we could/can go now. There should already be little groups of like minded, computer literate, super smart formed/forming. Someone must have developed a comment search algorithm to identify individuals worth recruiting. If approached how should I evaluate whatever appears? Will I even notice it my email is such a mess or if nothing shows can I assume that I have eliminated myself by my lack of functionality?
