      7:14 how has no one noticed the deck? See anything odd about the card ordering? The cards were definitely in sets before the shuffle so he by the looks of it certainly had jacks, kings and queens clumped together. That undoubtedly were in the centre of the deck during the cut this made it much easier to do exactly what he did which was look through the deck and determine which card was missing.

If you go through the Fool Us videos on youtube, you very often stumble upon magicians trying to misguide you by the video title, such as "Magician astonishes Penn and Teller" in order to trick people to watching it hoping they wont"t notice the title not actually saying "fooled".

    I just understood why he looked at the cards. It was entirely to misdirect Penn & Teller. It forces that to be their guess (that he actually just looked for the missing card and memorized the location). That way, they've wasted their guess on something that's wrong and they normally don't take a second guess. That's absolutely brilliant.

    I think I figured it out. The deck is at first ordered in a way so that the memorable cards (ace, king, queen, joker) are all next to each in groups of four at the center of the deck. His bet was that she would cut the deck around the middle which is what most people do, and she did that. The deck is shuffled and handed back.
    The first search was to identify which of those sets of cards was missing one, and he identified it as the ace. You wouldn't need to check the numbered cards which is why it went so quickly. The second search was to count the number of cards for the two gaps between the three aces. In this case, the shuffling didn't separate two of them so he only had to remember one number. At the last ace he finds, you can see he cuts the deck and places the rest of the cards on the bottom. This puts one ace on top, and the other two the memorized number of cards in.
    He brought four beatles as a contingency. If he needed more time or another look, he could eat another one and "increase his power". So he had four chances to look at the cards, but luckily he only needed two. If she had cut the cards in an odd way, say a few cards in one pile and the majority in the other, she would have drawn a number card. He would have had to search the whole deck instead of just the memorable cards he put in the middle and probably would have needed another look.
    Finally, when he lays down the cards it seems like he also memorized their color, value, and suit to be able to lay them down in order. He lays the three cards down, stating what each is as he goes. When he picks them back up, he looks at them and places them down in a different order. This means it didn't matter where the cards were or in what order.
    To me it seems like Penn and Teller's explanation is pretty spot on, and I'm not sure he completely fooled them. It seems like they didn't think he could have searched for the missing card in the time he did and that he did something else, so maybe there is a little more to it and he did fool them. It took me several watch throughs to get this so I'll say you fooled me, I don't think I could do it like you did.

So we'll say all aces 2's 3's 4's are all clumped together in the middle of the deck, then the odds of it splitting on one of those is pretty high when forcing a cut. One of those will be on the top, have someone shuffle to hide the evidence. Now when you search the deck you are only looking for 16 cards instead of 52. After the first search he knew which card, the 2nd search was just memorizing where the other aces were once he knew it was an ace.

    To be sure, around the centre of the deck before Alison initial cut, there are only Kings, Queens and Aces or so in the middle. She cuts, and puts one of these selected few cards under her butt.
    He goes through the cards TWICE and simply looks which of these 12 or 16 cards are missing. That is a skill that can be practiced. Then he just selects the three other cards to finish the trick.

    We didn't see the order of cards before Allison made the cut. So normally people cut decks right around middle. Especially when it's someone as Allison. I believe all the spade cards were placed in the middle of the deck. So he knew only a Spade was picked. When he went through the cards the first time he looked for which spade was missing, which I believe is quite possible out of 13 cards. The second time he went through the cards he memorized or tracked the rest 3 Aces to complete the end of trick.

      There are 52 cards in a deck, 4 suits of 13. To be able to count that quickly and index the seen cards fast enough to find one missing card is insane. Penn and Teller know this, and even messed with the cards as much as they could to throw off any roughing. Their options were to say that you did this totally legit IE the magic was real or you hid a tell so well that we missed it.

  • @53rdcards
    @53rdcards 2 года назад +1

    I don't really understand how he fooled them on this one, the first time he looked at all the cards, it would be easy to determine what card was missing, its the only one to only have 3 of left in the deck, and you can see he went through the entire deck before asking for another beetle, and the 2nd time to find the location of the other 3 of that type of card to complete the trick, he stopped before he reached the end of the deck because he had found them. The hard part is learning to do it as fast as he did, and that is very impressive, and makes the trick impressive. but as to how he did it. it seems to be a easy trick to figure out.

    I don’t get it. He literally sat there and flipped through all the cards, twice. Couldn’t he have just looked for whatever card was missing and that’d be her card? (Penn even says he saw him looking through the cards and he was just able to do it faster than they could.) So what’s the “extra” part that fooled them?

    • @diegojacobo9487
      @diegojacobo9487 4 года назад +48

      From what I understand, when he goes through the cards he’s not actually scanning all the cards. As Penn says, he goes too fast for him to actually scan it. What he is doing is looking for where the Aces are to take them out of the deck and counting (this id why he takes out the first Ace then counts an x amount of cards without any explanation). Which means, he managed to somehow force Allison to pull the Ace of Spades from a random deck cut, and they didn’t understand how he did that. The same thing with his last performance, which also fooled them.

First time you decide to count Red or Black cards - it should of course have 24 of respective but one of this colours will be 23pcs. That leads you to the next search, now you know what color is missing in the deck so second run you only look for 23 cards of the color that missed one card.
