Bro that's a perfect daily 👌🏿 and I love the colour. It actually has soo much potential. Definitely fix the bits bro it's definitely worth it. Check out some plaid designs and colours for the interior.
I’ll take inspo from your R32 on the interior!
👌not👌🏿
Who else tried to wipe that spot off on the side? Haha. Great video, again!
So annoying man, didn’t show up while filming but did while editing! Blurred it as much as I could 😢
Nice to see the Polo back on the channel! I have a few suggestions on how to improve the Polo which you can decide if they sound good to you or not:
1) Colour match the black plastic trim on the bumpers and doors to the blue colour
2)Add a cheap and good-sounding (doesn’t have to be loud) exhaust
3) Swap the OEM lights for bi-xenon lights (could replace the tail-lights for LEDs)
4) Change the beige headlining to a black one to match GTI theme of the interior
5) Tint the rear windows but not the boot window
6) Change the bottom lower front bumper trim to the honeycomb pattern to match the grill
7) Might be too difficult to do but maybe replacing the mirrors with mirrors that have the built in indicators and you could fill the space of the indicator with one of those gap fillers for the indicators of a Sharan and just paint over it.
8) Add a nice carbon fibre boot spoiler
Hope this helps!
I 100% agree about the the led taillights. There's some 6r style LEDs available for the 9n and 9n3 or if the 6r style isn't his style there's also 9n3 style LEDs (obviously made for the 9n3 but will fit the 9n just fine most parts are interchangeable)
I’ll definitely have a think about what’s doable! This month I’ll look at what parts to buy in particular 🤙🏽
Just curious about what exhaust you'd recommend that are not loud but sound nicer, as i own the same model!
about the mirror indicators - once you reroute the side indicators to the mirrors, you could do something like custom Cars with JB badge/gap fillers.
These vids are great. I have an ageing VW too, so I feel your pain. Re the dud buttons on the centre console, you can pick up from fleabay etc, stickers to make them look useful, such as 'ejector seat' and 'machine gun' which add a bit comedy value. You can refurb your wheels yourself at a really low cost and then give them some clear coat to finish them off. That goes for any painted parts too. Re the black spots on the paint work, they would come off with a clay bar and some elbow grease. Keep up the great work JB.
I definitely want to do the buttons for fun, the wheels I want the GTI alloys next, and the black spots definitely need a clay bar!
An iconic car 👌 I have many of the same problems on my polo of the same era. Since the handle is already broken you should definitely look into an auto window retrofit kit. Always intended to do the same but never got around to it
I’ve thought about doing that, I’ll need to see how much hassle it is first! I know there are aftermarket kits for it, but there’s also the actual 9n doors that came with the auto windows, maybe those would be the best bet for me
@@CarsWithJB ah I've never really thought about fitting the OEM parts. I guess it would be much cleaner and probably work better. Does the car cone with everything necessary or would you also need to add in control modules etc?
Had a green polo for my first car, sadly had to scrap it back in October and I miss it everyday, barely anything went wrong in 2 years of ownership and went like a dream. Great video mate, my only advice is to colour those plastic trims.
I’ve seen a few green ones about, definitely a cool colourway for the car!
I still have my 2003 polo 9N for many years now and it’s a great cheap car.. I would like to see you upgrade and maintain this car! What you have done so far is great man.
I still have my black 9N next to my new (2016) Polo 1.0 TSi Highline, which is awesome. But the 9N Comfortline is actually better in quality in a lot of places and remains my main project car. Of course, the newer one will be upgraded, but I can't just say goodbye to the 9N, especially since it's a back one with a mint beige (fabric) interior, which looks simply awesome and unique! But a pain in the ass to keep clean... but these 9N'S, CLASSICS!
I've been following you since I bought my 9N in 2017(!!!!) and my wee marco is still going well! general old age and a loooot of rust but he's been thru a lot with me over the years, happily sitting at 140k rn
Congratulations on 100k subscribers!
Thanks!
Great video man! Have had a polo since the start of lock down and come to your channel for 2 years now to do different mods to make it my own car. I think the best mod I have done is either a sub in the back or a kenwood apple car play head unit I got for £90 of facebook market place!! I have been looking to get some new alloys so if you ever wanted to swap or are getting rid of them let me know!
Very cool - glad the channel’s helped! And sick re the radio, I might need to do the same… as and when I change my alloys I’ll let the channel know 🤙🏽
I wanna see you tackle every issue with this car 👍 you can get comedy stickers for the blank buttons on the dash
Haha I’ll see what I can do! And yeah re the dash buttons, I’ll have a think about what I can put there 🤪
Love to see it at exactly 100k looks so nice
It’s nice isn’t it - very happy to be here!
My 106 hit 20 in January and I mist say she’s looking mighty fine for her age. Just a misaligned rear light and bumper trim from a parking bump and 20 odd door dings lol. Props for keeping the car for 5 years and not jumping on to a newer financed car like so many people do, cheap motoring is the best sort of motoring! Can’t wait for more of the pointless polo project, I really need to start fiddling about with my 106 since I’ve had it a whole year and done nothing with it 😅
Haha that’s very decent for it’s age especially for a Pug! If I finance a car it won’t be a daily, it’ll have to be an affordable exotic. Re the Polo I simply can’t write a business case for buying anything more that it right now for dailying, it does (almost) everything right!
What's crazy is that i paid 1300 for my 02 plate automatic 1.4 polo 2 years ago (60k miles), its mad to see how much cheaper manuals are.
The locking is such a common VW problem! Mine does the same, and now the rear passenger side won't lock or unlock at all. My mum had a bora back in 2001 that did the same thing, and a friend had this issue with an old golf.
The water in the doors is also the same for me on my 02 plate polo. Changing the seal shouldn't be hard but I'm not confident I'm not going to make it worse.
And the fuel cap on mine came snapped also!
I’m glad others have had the same problems so it’s not just my car! It’s annoying as nothing major has ever gone wrong on it, it’s just all these little issues that I cba to fix 😅
Quality of life upgrade - cruise control retro fit. Did mine recently and it's awesome
That’s a cool idea - I’m not sure I’d ever use it though as 90% of my driving right now is in the city!
This series inspired me to get a mk4 polo as well it's got 170,000 on the clock and Ive had it for 3 years I honestly love it, fantastic little car.
Woah I didn’t know they lasted that long, mines got 110k on it
Think you should give it some TLC. Worth it if you’re carrying on using it, but just enough to keep it presentable. Glad mines not the only one with issues haha. I need to decide what to do with my 2002 MK4 Golf. Got engine warning light on but only something minor I think, my passenger window regulator has had it, and needs new drivers door lock because the micro switch has failed. My boot lock is seized (but only the key hole can open with the remote) and the dash lights flicker sometimes when I press the brake pedal, I think a bad Earth somewhere. Sometimes the reader coil for the immobiliser Doesn’t realise the key so it won’t start. Not much rust though fingers crossed, only a small patch and I had the most of it on the roof repaired a few years back! I still love it haha
Haha not too dissimilar in terms of problems then! Luckily for me the rust is literally just where the paint has been stripped off, so not a huge problem
@@CarsWithJB yeah think VAG have been galvanising since the MK4 Golf, possibly earlier so major rust shouldn’t be causing much issues with these yet anyway
Crazy to think the prices of cars 5 years ago. I paid £700 for my mk6.5 fiesta zetec s 4 and a half years ago. Still got it and its solid. Havent had any major issues
Had a mk6.5 zetec S TDCI. Bought mine 4 years ago for £1900. Sadly due to this stupid ULEZ I had to sell it a few months ago. Actually sold it for the same price I bought it for those years back. Really loved it putting DRL headlights on and Bola wheels. Still have the wheels which I'm hoping to sell
@@zaink7037 ahh yeah ngl they are decent cars i was thinking of buying another car but these prices atm are crazy
It’s great - cheap and generally trouble free motoring is very possible, and worth every penny! It’s almost helpful that many people don’t trust cheap old cars 👀
I’ve done a few videos on my polo bro! Mine was also in the £400ish! The door cards are very easy to change up, I did a blue tartan to match my car 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Ah good effort I’ll definitely check it out and probably do similar to mine!
I have pretty much the same car, 1.2 e, although it's a 9n3. I got it for free from my aunt because it was going to be scrapped and I decided to try and get it roadworthy myself. The big problem I have now is that there is water leaking into the passenger footwell, and I have the full interior stripped to sort that. I love the car I want to keep it for a very long time!
Check behind the wheel liner in the passenger side, mine had like 3 kilos of dirt in there. Also check the other side.
@@TheIdiotPlays Could be that, or the sunroof drain going down the A pillar seems to get clogged up aswell. There is a few diagrams online which you can follow
Excellent intuitive video bro!!❤️
Nice video man, do you know how modifications such as changing the wheels affected your insurance premium?
Very little for me, maybe like £20-30, but my insurance is cheap anyway!
Apple Carplay Yes. I did an upgrade on my Polo 6R GTI with the official VW RCD330 Radio that is designed to PQ Car's that are sold in the other market's Like india and china. Best 300€ upgrade that i made.
Sure that radio will not work with the 9N But 3rd Party Radio's 😄
Haha that’s sick! I’ll definitely have to go 3rd party I think, but that’s fine, I’ll work it out 🤙🏽
@@CarsWithJB Can't Wait for the installation and Review! 😁😎
I've not long got a 2008 9N 1.4 Automatic for my first car, lovely little motor but definitely quirky. I sometimes have the same locking issue myself, good to know it's a common issue and not just me. 😅
I did put an Apple carplay double din unit in my polo, and also installed a DAB aerial. I can suggest you a pioneer unit, it fits really nice.
Think I may know the one you’re on about, I was considering it!
It is the SPH-DA250DAB. It does not have wireless carplay but pluging in my phone does not bother me. I also installed a MK6 leather steering wheel, and trying to get GT seats as well, and i did get the Montreal II wheels, they go really nice with the car.
what size rims are on your car, and size tires? thanks in advance. nice video😉👍
16:15 I have the same issue with passenger door lock, it is common for them. Pins in the connecting sockets are prone for malfunctioning. I'm yet to solve the issue, I'd love to see the video. :D
Swapping the door for GTI tartan would be fun, but requires preparations, but the material it's fairly easy to get.
I'd do the interior stuff first, because it will affect your enjoyment, although that rust is a bit worrying.
Ditto with the passenger door lock problem. Would love to find a fix
I’ve actually fixed the passenger door problem before on my Skoda, so I could definitely do it again! It did require a new unit though, not expensive but hassle to attach
What a bargain, a £400 car that is still running in any state is good going i think, after 5 years ! How about you spend another £400 getting it tarted up and a stage one remap !! So it has a full sexy/GTI interior and goes it a bit too !!?? You could do as much as possible yourself, like the leather seat idea, plus take us along to the Remap ! Just an idea ! J
I’m very happy with it! I think sadly a remap won’t do much, but an engine swap would 👀 but we’ll see how it goes!
If i remember correctly, the cup holder was an option back in the days. Not all the cars had it, and they left the space like that. I have the same issues with water under the doors and sometimes it drives me crazy because I have to open all the doors before having a trip.
And I have the same door locking problem, i lock it by pressing the button from interior 🤣🤣
MoT the car first and after getting it through upgrade the outside first whilst the weather is good during the Summer months . Then see what costs involved to do the inside . If you intend to keep the car for along time ensure you get driver comfort sorted .
Great daily and has so muhc potential to get a huge makeover :D
Black alloys look great but are a pain in the arse, I'm very careful with kerbs but I've got some big stone chips on 3 of them- turns out that those big air intakes behind the doors are designed to suck air in (incredibly). Flying stones just hit the door or wheel instead...I'm saving up already.
Fun ownership fact- this year's service is costing me roughly triple my annual insurance, or 2.6 Polos. I reckon a stereo and other QoL upgrades short of that can't be bad value! Future video idea there- how much can you do to a car for less than a set of tyres or service on a stupid car? 😆 Both are 4 figures...
Haha I know, fortunately I’ve never scraped the MX-5s alloys despite putting thousands of miles on that, but driving the polo as aggressively as I do it was always going to end up with a dink or two. Like the idea re doing stuff to the car for less than a 911 service or something like that!
@@CarsWithJB To be fair, it would be weird to be overprotective of a £400 Polo, part of the fun of a cheap car is not worrying about it!
Dunno about a 911 but the Cayman is £1030 for a major service...by my count you've done 10 videos under that budget including 4 lists of cars to buy so it's definitely doable! A single rear tyre is £280 if you want a tougher challenge 😆 I'm definitely buying a cheaper car next...
@@ApothecaryTerry what’s the cheap car going to be?? (As in type of car?)
@@CarsWithJB I might just buy a G30 540i or a facelifted GS...but I have my eye on 2 of the slightly more interesting hot hatches. Nothing serious like a CTR, I want fun! Also not saying too much since I could be sat here in a year either with the Porsche still outside or a Swift Sport, I have no idea 😄 Porker gets serviced in July so I'm aiming for late summer to seriously look.
Such a nice colour car bro. i just got the polo 9N in black and i love it, the driver is amazing for a first car.
1. I have the same problem, my fuel cap cable was snapped before i bought the car, i’m guessing it’s a standard issue from over turning or something, but i’m sure it can easily be fixed.
2. I think the black spots on the car may be tar? My dad had it on his old car form work and it was a real struggle to get off but eventually faded after power washing and time.
3. On my boot door, one of the arms that hold it up have come off! I’ve bought the bolt that holds it in place but just trying to find a bolt to screw in because the bolt goes inside the bodywork of the car😭 i have no clue how it works… and also the thread on the bodywork is gone! Such a shame as i have to hold the boot up every time i use it. Not a big deal just bit of an inconvenience.
Sick car tho man, i love what you’ve done with the tyres especially, just wondered if you have to declare it with insurance? i think it would look sick on an all black car with white writing. Tidy car mate🤜🤛
I think the black spots are tar too, and that’s so annoying re the boot door! The tyre writing I haven’t declared, I didn’t know if I needed to or not tbh considering there’s no filter for it anywhere, but everything material has been declared 🤙🏽
Carplay radio is a good shout xtrons have a android unit with apple carplay for 240 pounds so not too expensive compared to other options. also I think those empty buttons next to the hazards is the same across all mk4s I've never seen one with any functions unless they were aftermarket. And my polo also does the same thing with the passenger door but not from outside only when I press the lock button when inside the car when locking outside with the key it all locks I think it's just dodgy electrics it seems to be a common issue on mk4 polos and other cars on the same platform as you said
I’ll check out the xtron radio! And yeah the locking thing is annoying - I can definitely fix it but I’m too lazy, maybe for a future video 🤙🏽
@@CarsWithJB it's annoying but I've gotten used to it 😂😂it's been like that since my mum got it in 2012 I've gotten used to closing the lock manually instead. Weirdly it works fine for a few months a year then the rest it just doesn't
I felt a lot better watching this because my daily is a mk4 golf pd130 got nearly 201567 it’s showing it ages and I would be interested in the air fresheners 😂😂😂
Haha that’s insane! I’ll see what I can do re merch 🤙🏽
Don't worry bro i have a 18 year old 206 and i can make a longer video but its the imperfections that gives the car personality and character
I own the same polo with the 12v 1.2 solid car when it actually works 😂
I also have the thing with the passenger door
congrats on 100k
Cheers man!
Scruffed alloys ain’t bad bro. But them rusty drums could look a lot tidier
I’m thinking about swapping out the rear axle for the one off the GTI to get disc brakes!
@@CarsWithJB good plan 👌🏻 especially if you are going to be driving the car for a few more years. I don’t know how drums brakes fair where you live but In the south west salt air just eats them , one of the pros with discs easy to clean
Love the jacket man
Cheers! I wanted the long dementor looking one but they don’t seem to exist anywhere so this does the job for now 🤙🏽
That interior trim just needs some spray glue behind it ... honestly you could make that car look a million dollars in a weekend for about £100 worth of parts and some elbow grease. Look after her and she'll look after you, etc. And chuck a tenner in the fuel tank so you don't burn out the fuel pump or suck up crud from the bottom of the tank :)
Yeah I’ve literally got the spray glue sitting in my cupboard! But I’m probably going to reupholster anyway. And yes re the petrol, I just had a 200 mile round trip 2 weeks ago which I got down to the redline on, but not dangerously low, I’ll fill her up for my trip to the MOT centre!
@@CarsWithJB awesome :) If you have a £400 car that you trust to do a 200 mile trip, it's a keeper! :)
I first thought this was a older video until I saw the post time. I saw black polo for £500 but sadly someone else picked them up the same day it got posted. Bought a VW UP for a bargain which I'm hoping to sell for a profit
Haha I have done this video before, back when I had 100 subs, and some very different problems!
Yes 100% u should do some upgrades
Bro If you need any parts/ bits I have spare door cards/ trims window winders. Everything man probably a bit of a drive for you like but just saying 😂 my lass has a 9n called penny too. My 9n3 has had a fair few mods. And being an audio engineer I can help you out with a sound system too
The good thing is that nothing essential is wrong 🙂
Exactly, still does the job
My 9n has the same issue with the door locks and i also know someone with a 9n too who also has that same issue… seeme to be a common thing on those
Hopefully a ppp video soon to revamp the polo 😌
Maybe a few!
My 2006 9N has the same problem with water getting in the door when it rains 🤦🏻♂️
So annoying man, the amount of times I’ve been caught slipping by my own doors 🥲
Go for apple carplay, because it would be pretty nice.
Cool I’ll see what I can do!
Great to see it still going!
I've still got my 9n but now it had OEM remote central locking and OEM heated seats, and electronic power folding mirrors (SUPER RARE) :)
Highly recommended the remote central locking!
All you need is the correct CCM, an id48 keyfob and then need that programmed to your new CCM :)
Maybe order an apple CarPlay unit from a website like aliexpress I think it could make a good video👍
Haha and see if it even works - definitely an idea!
Second that as I am about to try and tackle changing my stereo on my polo. Have you done anything to under the bonnet - I am running a Polo match 1.2 2009 and it’s magic tbh
Just bought one for 150€ and it needs a new clutch wich I ordered one for 100€ and a new door and new window mechanism wich will set me another 150€ and another 150€ to place tge clutch i know a cheap guy it also did not have a key thats why it was cheap i got a key made and coded for 250€ total is 800€ for a car that’s worth 3k in the secondhandmarket is very good
Are you going to put on your polo Lamborghini dors?
Haha I have thought about this - it would make for a very good video, but I don’t want to get in and out of a Lambo doored polo 😅
Keep it going for the next few years, don't waste your time and money on it and scrap it when you need a new daily driver. Any money you spend will be dead money.
True re the dead money, and that is the plan re running it into the ground, but would be good for content!
@@CarsWithJB Hi, in regards to content /videos /growing your channel, I agree with you 100%
Where did you buy the rims from ? I like it
My 9n3 1.4 auto petrol..bank1 oxygen sensor keeps comin up every 6months...drinking too much fuel..any advise?
What would be your new run around car if you had 10k
Glad MOT passed. Why such low mileage in 1 year? Less than 1500 miles in last 12 months
I was driving the MX-5 for most of the year!
Do you have tapping noise coming from the engine? I think that in mine its the lifters, but I'd like to hear if you or anyone else has dealt with this issue. I have the 47kW 12V model.
When you put the new alloys on it did you inform your insurance?
Yep - didn’t actually affect me much!
@@CarsWithJB thanks that’s great to hear since I’m thinking of changing up my alloys on my corsa but I don’t want to go broke in the process of doing so 😂😂

This may be a £400 polo , but how much have you put on it ?
I think I’m probably at the £1k mark absolute tops!
My 9n is also 20 #polobuddies
Haha happy birthday to yours!
Thanks:)
Brother I want to buy car under 2000£ so which one is good?
Really depends what kinda car you’re after! I’ve got plenty of sub-£2k vids for you to check out if they’re helpful 🤙🏽
@@CarsWithJB thank you for your support
Do the apple car play and the egg merchandise please
Give me 10 problems that need fixing on a £400 car, over one problem that needs fixing on a £40,000 car.
100% agree - the problems will cost me less than £200 to fix probably 😅
@@CarsWithJB JB, I’ve put my 4.8is on eBay for sale😬
If you want to take it for a drive before I seek it, you’re welcome!
All these problems but if you tell me that the EML is not on then that's a BIG problem
Haha ABS light is on, sadly no EML!
Best get that MOT done now its expired
