  • Rolling into 12 Mile Heavy Vehicle Checking Station with a questionable Logbook… Why the page totals don’t matter in the National Heavy Vehicle Work Diary. NHVR inspectors signing off on a 14 and 3/4 hour day. How they count hours and what a 24hr period means. Also, how to approach Officers… Being friendly, respectful and professional goes a long way.

    I tried and came in a gnats eyelash of geetting in a knock down with the guy in charge of the books. I just can NOT work a book except for driving a mixer with maybe 4 or 5 loads a day. I finally quit driving and started work at a quarry. MUCH less agrivation! Now they have the electronic things. NOPE! CHEERS!

    When I used to run interstate , that would happen frequently enough . No , it isn't a drama as long as the Appropriate Break times are met .
    So many people think in terms of that Midnight to Midnight thing , that has Nothing to do with it . Just needs understanding of WHAT the REGS S A Y .

    If anyone gets done for an overload... weighbridge or portable scales, post on here... some interesting information has been told to me... As for the work diaries... funny story... Went through Loxton years ago, and the Senior Inspector was parked on the road. Pulled in behind, and he comes to the window. As we had both served on a committee several years earlier, and he had known of me back in the late 70's, running around in shorts when away with dad... both of us got along quite well... Opening comment to the Inspector... "G'day Ted. You want to have a read of some fresh fiction???" That gathered a laugh from Ted. Comment back... "Yes, nearly as good as that Austroads committee we served on in 2004. Weighing guidelines for Enforcement Purposes. That draft paper WAS a work of fiction - and did deserve its place in the fiction section of the local library!!!" The document in question was the precursor to the introduction of Measurement Adjustments. All submissions that were made, protesting the introduction of the MA's, was ignored. Not sure if it was the RTA that was running that or if it was Austroads.
    Trouble was, there was and still is prima facie evidence that the portables can weigh heavy - even when used correctly! There was a test of the new portables (Haenni) when compared to the Bolivar weighbridge. 6 different truck configurations. Worst error was the 8 X 4. Portables weighed the twin steer a half tonne heavier than the weighbridge. From memory, the twin steer weighed in at 13.65 tonne on the portables, and 13.16 tonne on the northern deck at Bolivar. The tandem went at 16.4 tonne on both.
    There was also evidence submitted to this response that a 1.6 tonne variation in weights was recorded at 29 tonne on a 3 axle truck and single axle trailer. Even with the steer axle weighing up hill, a 600 kg difference was recorded. This was done by first weighing with the steer axle just on the deck, and the second reading taken with the lead drive axle on the pit wall.
    Now, with the above, do you understand why I have no confidence in the MA system?
    Oh, and for the record - avoid the electronic diaries - they are not able to be cheated and can get you into more strife than the early settlers!

    Im actually surprised they haven't mandated electronic logs like the States. I used to juggle three log books, one for me, one for the company, and one for the DOT (department of transportation)

    I remember years ago running the hume cause nothing was coming back up home. And my book ended up all over the place. So i "accidentally" left it on the fuel tank. (Probably) Highway patrol found it next morning. $5500 worth of tickets later .....

    Need ur help mate started work driving at 8:15 pm from Sydney to Queensland do I rest 7 hours or wait till 8 pm again???

    • @freesbrisbane
      @freesbrisbane  5 месяцев назад +1

      If you started at 8:15pm NSW time, you have until 1:15pm NSW time the next day in which to use your 12 (std) or 14 (bfm) hours before you require your 7hr continuous break.
      How ever many hours you had left, come off when you can restart.
      That is, if you maxed your hours, you must wait until 8:15pm the next day to restart, but if you only travelled, say, 9 3/4hrs (out of the std 12) for example, you could leave 2 1/4hrs earlier at 6pm.
      Hope that helps.
